Trecarn Hotel

There was no headboard and there was no parking even thou it was advertise with parking available but the car park is kept for coaches use only. We were asked for photo ID on arrival ad informed this was for safety reasons.

Very Tired and rambling , lift not working, littered outside ,shabby in parts

Very good value, and enjoyed the evening entertainment.

We were in a small room also the only day light we had was from a small window with frosted glass, you had to have a light on all of the time , right out side the window was a large pipe extracter fan ? Which that went off a couple of times during the night , which was noisy, waking us up, we never complained as the hotel was busy with coaches. The room got very warm . We ate in the dining couple of times that was very good , plenty of choice. Overall apart from the room and always having to go to reception for everything, from towels to loo roll. The lift was not working, so it was a struggle with cases , up two flights of stairs.

Room was clean & tidy and bed was comfy. Walking distance to the beach offering plenty of dining options. Car parking can be tricky, so you need to be quick to find one on the street. Overall a nice place to stay, relax in the evening with a drink and soak up the entertainment that is offered.

I travel frequently to the South West for work and generally stay here. For the price Trecarn offers a good option. The rooms and general decor is tired, but it is clean, the rooms are secure and the showers are hot and powerful. There is a bar and restaurant and there is outdoor seating when its hot. The hotel generally caters to coach holidays so it needs to meet a certain standard. There is on street parking around the hotel and there are takeaways, pubs and a tesco within a short walk. Its not luxury, but compared to the budget options in the Torquay town centre the Trecarn is miles better.

No parking but found spaces on road

The hotel was generally good, but kept the cost down by cutting corners. The food was only OK, being the quality to be expected from a large canteen. Rooms were not serviced during a stay, which is fine for a stay of a couple of nights, but not one (such as mine) for 10 days. Perhaps this saving on housekeeping enabled the hotel to keep prices down, but if so rooms should have had the means of guests doing this themselves (e.g. providing a toilet brush to ensure that everything did in fact get flushed away. On the other hand, I have stayed in accommodation where the water did not run hot in the basin and only had a shower. I therefore give high marks for the quality of the bathroom. The advert said there was parking, but not that it was all on-street. The small car park in front of the hotel had been changed into an outdoor seating area, which may have been a good idea. The room was OK, with an enormous ensuite bathroom: it would have been much better with less space devoted to ablutions and more floorspace in the room, which would have meant that there was space in the room for an easy chair. As it was there was one upright chair in the room, with little space to use it and another (bizarrely) in the bathroom. The hotel is well-geared up for handling coach parties, often several at a time. I was not part of one.

Room was clean, staff very good, food was great, only issue was I choose a hotel with on site disabled parking and there was none, managed to park on road but at busier times it wound be a struggle, also the lift could only be used by one person at a time and the lift was incredibly slow, the description on your site needs updating with regards to parking, but we had a very enjoyable experience.

Very dirty and damp. Very noisy paperthin walls. Mould on walls and curtains. Beds are terrible with no springs. Never booking with you again. This is the second time and both were very upsetting and dissappointing. Nothing was done except Tara moved us because of an extraction fan that wouldn't stop running. Thankyou to her only

It was cheap for a hotel so close to the beach. It was unfortunate that there was no on-site parking, although it wasn\'t a game changer. My room could have done with a "Deep Clean" to remove mold and bathroom vent dirt but this is no disrespect to the room attendant, it requires engineering / maintenance involvement.

We were staying for one night to attend the theatre. It looks quite run down from the outside. But we were made to feel so welcomed by the lovely lady on reception. The room was clean and ideal for us.

Regardless of the price there is no excuses for mold in the rooms, generally grubby and run down hotel. If I had known this was a Britanna Hotel, I would never have booked. The room provided initially, for sole occupancy, no 8 was appalling, it smelt vile and had black mold in the window recess. The door hardly locked and could have been opened with a firm push, or by sliding a bank card between the frame and the door. I didnt feel it was safe to leave my work laptop or belongings in the room. The receptionist was very helpful, and understanding she moved me to another room on the second floor. The room was better but was still in need of serious updating and a full redecoration. The shower hardly got warm and the tray needed replacing. I would not stay again.

Hotel was clean and tidy throughout also well heated room was ideal for solo travellers and contained all I needed

How can you call this a hotel, very very disappointed, carpets are seriously dirty wallpaper falling off waterstains on every ceiling it smells really bad of damp, room's are not cleaned bathroom was dirty big black hair in the bath wouldn't stay there again and found out homeless people live there too stay at your own risk and why we was there customers had money and personal belongings stolen

Room smelt of damp shower leaked stained everywhere just grubby spoke to a lady in another room and she went and got bleach to clean her bathroom before she could use it

Overall a satisfactory stay. Good evening entertainment. A long walk to the room along a maze of corridors.

Room next to stairs ,too noisy as guests kept moving in and out. I hardly slept

It’s a big old hotel , it has its faults , but my room had a comfy bed , a good modern tv , and a good hot shower , and the reception were nice people , all for £33 for the night ! No complaints here .

Was so hot/stuffy had to sleep with windows open.bathroom and shower were so tiny,our room was very noisy this time

The biggest plus about this property is the staff: they were wonderful, both at check-in and at check-out. The lobby area is large and inviting, and well-lit. Rather than having on-site parking, the property chose to turn the hotel forecourt into outdoor seating with picnic tables. While sitting outside might be nice in the wamer summer months, not having on-site parking is a negative: the hotel sits on a residential street, so street parking nearby is at a premium. The bedroom corridor and bedroom itself immediately brought to mind a hotel I stayed at in Cornwall in the 1970s. Both were clean and properly maintained, but a renovation would not go amiss: the wall paper was very 1970s! The bed was comfortable as were the pillows, and the comforter was great: I slept like a baby! The bathroom, however, was minute, and that is not an exaggeration. It was a squeeze to get into the shower, and as a 6'1", 250 lb woman, there was barely room in the shower stall to get washed. Given the size of room overall, there would have been plenty of room to increase the size of the bathroom without taking away any of the spaciousness of the bedroom. Overall, this hotel served its purpose as a low-budget, affordable overnight stay, and I would certainly choose to stay here again.

The check in experience was great with friendly staff at reception. The room however not so great. I have stayed here twice before and was always given a comfortable room. The bed was so hard that I barely slept. The pillows werent much softer. The room was tatty although for the price I wouldnt expect anything more. Sad to say i won't return.

"You get what you pay for" is the perfect adage for this hotel. One night stay in single room. Bit damp, bit musty, so small the bathroom door opened halfway before hitting the bed, ground floor window didn't open. Black mould in shower, and lovely view of the gas cylinders out back. But for £33, the sheets were clean and the bed adequate, and once the loud, live, Sunday "entertainment" had stopped at 10pm and the room on the other side of the paper thin walls had turned off their TV, sleep was found.

Quiet, comfortable bed. Pleasant receptionist on check in. No window in room ( this should be advised at point of booking) Could do with a lick of paint. Outdoor area untidy. Expensive Wi-fi at £7.00 per day.

All generally good just some areas of the building are dated/ rooms, & the beds are very firm, would benefit with foam topper would make them more comfortable until replaced. The parking is a bit hit & miss as it's on street parking.

In the morning i had a shower the side glass leaked so floor was soaked and even after running for about 25 minutes water was only Luke warm, i reported this to reception was advised to try other times of day and or to run sink tap at same time, neither of these methods worked so not hot shower during my stay. Other than that would happly stay here again, is clearly a coaching hotel... breakfastcwas very nice hot food and good service, friendly staff!

Clean, friendly and staff were great ...

staff was rude and condescending, said free wifi but was actually 7 quid for a night, toothpaste marks on mirrors and hair in the shower grotty

The staff where brilliant and helpful. The only issue i found was finding the room. Not enough signs but apart from that i will be definately staying there again in the very near future.

First impression as you pull up, were not great,the hotel looks a little tierd and dated ,could do with a lick of paint, and a bit of a tidy up. We rocked up to reception, fella sitting on a chair, never really said 2 words , we said we are checking in, name ,we then filled in a form, key was given, .what happened to ,good Evening, welcome to The Trecarn Hotel, customer service seems to have gone out the window, and your supposed to put up with what they dish out, well not me. Room was small and compact, a few cobwebs on the lights, and radiator, the garden out the back ,had plates and cup outside, and they were still there when we left sunday morning doesn't really create a good impression. Shower was decent, and it served a purpose, would i stay there again, no i would'nt, would i recommend it, no i wouldnt.

Staff was friendly

The hotel was poor of service , no WiFi , no clean, the stuff was not helpful, parking not available, and noisy. Had to go somewhere to go any catch up work , as no WiFi, asked to be moved to different room not helpful. That was the wordy hotel I stayed in my all travel. Not able to cancelled or move to different hotel 😡.

The place is a bit of give and take tbh, a bit dated but not horrendously so, not yet at least. The bathroom was very small, however I'm 6'3" and still managed fine. The room itself actually came well equipped tbh, a hairdryer, iron, fan and extra pillow could be found in the wardrobe. The TV was decent, surprisingly modern and reasonably sized for a single room. Bedding was clean. Mattress wasnt amazing but it was acceptable. The curtains were a bit angin and there were only 2 plug sockets for the whole room, so it meant jostling between kettle, TV, phone charger and the fan all weekend. Easily solved with an extension lead but not everyone comes prepared. The entertainment reminded me a bit of Phoenix nights each time I glanced passing through. Few muppets and numpties walking around leathered at night throwing tantrums with one another, but that's Torquay for ya, few odd smells about. I didn't have breakfast but it seemed alright. Staff were polite and said hello whenever I went by. It's most redeeming quality for me was it's location, just off the main road, ideal for Torquay, right near the beach. Has a lovely view across to Exmouth etc, quite a descent to the shore though so take some decent footwear, plenty of cafes, restaurants, a laundrette and a Tesco Express all within a 5 minute walk. Parked car on street outside. You can come and go as you please, no messing around handing keys in and out like some other places. All in all, worth what I paid.

Very clean, great staff, but a bit of a Rabbit warren to get to & from room. However, the breakfast was good and the location really excellent. I shall return, but will try to get a room on the ground floor next time.

A good hotel ashort bus ride from Torquay but a much quieter resort and very nice sea front with views.

My stay was beautiful, quiet and within easy reach of all amenities, the breakfast was excellent, it really set us up for the busy day shopping. 100 percent going again.

Perfectly good budget hotel near coast, no parking but on-street parking on the same road is plentiful. Staff very friendly and helpful.

The evening meal choice wasn't very good, so we gave it a miss, but the breakfast was OK.

The accommodation was pretty much as described, but the staff were really great, cheerful, friendly and efficient. The generous breakfast was a nice surprise.

Customer Service was fantastic from start to finish. Breakfast was delicious. Room was a little cold, but when we mentioned it, they revolved straight away. Restaurant was closed, due to lack of staff, but plenty of local options The room was OK,but headboard was solid and hurts wgen you head but it.

External planters full of weeds no plants. Large skip on full view as you approach the main entrance along with other building materials at various points at the front of the building. The hedge was also overgrown. Damage to various parts of the corridor ceilings on the upper floor which were badly patched with bits of plaster board, while other large cracks were just left. The wall paper on this floor is either coming away from the walls or the paint is patchy. In general it needs TLC and a serious amount of maintenance The food is mediocre at best and the choice for vegetarians is almost non existent. When we asked if the cabanara was suitable for vegatarians we were told no but we could have the veg and roast potatoes like that was acceptable. Why would you pay £15 for that. I've been to several other Britania hotels and while they have all been basic they were at least a least a little more accommodating so on that premise i won't be rushing back to this one.

The Hotel is very good value for money, breakfast was grand, overall could do with updating as very tired looking, but we enjoyed our weekend there.

Reception staff amazing really help full and night staff. Food hall staff not helpful and not very knowledgeable about menu and what is been served and lacking vegetarian options. My wife asked the question and the staff was rude. I DONT KNOW!!! Was our reply. The answer I was looking for was let me find out.
