Great location, very convenient. Quiet inside, which is good because it is right under the flight zone. Outside it is almost deafening but inside I didn't even notice it. Food at the bistro downstairs is yummy. Lost of vegan options. No parking on site, but was able to find some in the nearby area. Not great during the day though as there is tight restrictions, best to leave the car home and catch the speedy train to Sydenham instead.

Excellent and comfortable stay whilst visiting family in Marrickville. Super convenient next to the station, and so pleasantly surprised at how quiet the rooms were. We ate downstairs in teh bistro also, which has delicious food. Would definitely stay again.

Extremely deceptive from the outside. The service, the food and the accommodation couldn’t fault. My husband loved the plane’s flying over our balcony. They stop at 11pm so no impingement on sleep. Will stay again.

Room was right above the train station intersection and under the SYD flightpath. Room was so quiet. Maybe one or two planes could mutely be heard. Security was always wandering the facilities. Close to train station and walking distance to Marrickville. Staff was very accommodating. Thanks to the whole staff. I'll be back. Chris

A beautiful place with some very interesting history. Selected this location as it was close to the airport for a quick layover. Two min walk to public transit which brings you right to Sydney Habour. The staff was friendly and helpful. I was concerned about the load music playing downstair in the bar but could hear nothing in the room. Highly recommend this location for a quick stay.

My concern is that in the morning you put your key into the drop box but can not renter the hotel because the doors are locked. We forgot something in our room but couldn’t retrieve it. We also didn’t see a front desk just bars as we entered but were taken care of to check in. Room was clean and updated. Bed comfortable and very nice bathroom and towels.

It was in a perfect location for us to fly in from country NSW, $30 cab fare between airport & motel, walk to and from a concert at the Factory Theatre, then fly home in the morning. A quick trip but everything was well up to standard and we'll definitely stay again.

Booked because I wanted a non-chain hotel. The General Gordon packs a lot of charm and service into its walls. Sydenham train station is directly across the street, and it was a direct line to Circular Quay - just a great location. Quiet residential street otherwise. I would stay again and again if ever back in Sydney.

While this is outside of their control, they are directly under the flight path to Sydney airports major runway. There is a curfew in place from 11 pm to 6 am but at 6:01 you will hear planes landing, being so close to the runway, and they will wake you up. Ended up buying ear plugs to sleep past 6am. The room was in good condition, nice comfy bed, and even though it is above a pub, did not hear anything from the below pub. Friendly staff.

Room had obviously been remodeled recently and it was great! Also, you can come and go from the accomodation without having to go through the bistro/ bar. Very convenient location directly across from train station and close to variety of food outlets!
