Our recent stay at Fable Hotel Auckland was deeply disappointing and fell far short of the five-star standard it claims. While the rooms and restaurant were nicely decorated and clean, we arrived late after a delayed flight and were left locked outside for 30 minutes, despite ringing the buzzer, repeatedly calling reception, and even contacting Expedia. During this time, there were drug users or homeless people outside the hotel shouting at us, which made the situation feel unsafe and very distressing. When a staff member finally appeared to let us in, it looked as though he had just been asleep. There was no concierge available to help with our bags. Breakfast was chaotic and inconsistent — one morning we were given a very limited buffet, and another we were allowed to order from the à la carte menu without explanation. Complimentary bottled water was missing from the room, and when we asked for it, we were told to drink tap water from the bathroom unless we specifically requested bottles. The gym was extremely poor, with just a single bike and a small weights bench crammed into a tiny space that felt like a cupboard. Overall, this hotel did not provide the level of service, safety, or facilities that a five-star property should deliver.

The front entrance is hiding between two retail entrances - make sure to look at the awning signs to find the entry! The parking is a little difficult, but if you contact the hotel in advance, you can find out where to meet the concierge for valet parking, if you don't want to worry about trying to park. The rooms were lovely, all staff were friendly and helpful, and I really enjoyed my stay.

I’ve wanted to try this hotel for a long time and booked over a year ago for a special occasion. The staff are lovely and helpful. The bed was very comfy. Hotel in great location. That was where the good stuff ended. The room smelled very musty/moldy. Had to have the balcony door open for extended periods of time and room smelled if left shut up. The hot water ran out during my shower the first morning. The shelf in the shower was not secured properly and couldn’t be used to place shampoo etc on. The hot tub had broken and was under repair, which we weren’t told until we tried to use it. If you are coming by car, don’t. It’s a nightmare. I got abused by the courier driver while trying to drop off luggage and get car put into valet. My husband had to go around the block multiple times. The room seemed to be missing some of the elements you would expect of a 5 star hotel. On another note- we were on the 8th floor. The lift only goes to 7th. We are fit, so didn’t worry us. Not many amenities for a 5 star. Not worth the price tag.

Standards have slipped at The Fable who, by the way, are still advertising 24-hour room service which actually ends before 9 pm (who knows what happened to their overnight menu; we were lucky to get the restaurant's leftover desserts). Excited by an upgrade to the junior suite, we were disappointed enough by worn upholstery, grubby shower, suspect aircon, & broken bathroom extractor fan to request a downgrade. Luxury king was a much nicer experience but, again, the cleaning team had been neglecting shower floor and corners for some time, ugh. The jacuzzi was broken, with edging peeling away from the seats. Some creative soul had stashed multiple lifted tiles decoratively in a corner. Be prepared to try reception two or three times to get an answer :( Hopefully this is unique to Auckland and other Fable properties remain a unique & glamorous treat.

Staff were great. Physical environment lovely. Unfortunately the room had a very musty smell - either like flooded carpet or cigarette smoke that had been attempted to neutralise, but just made the room smell weird and unpleasant. Even when we woke up, we were still attuned to the bad smell. Such a shame as the location is great and the rest of the experience very good.

Great decor. Staff lovely and helpful. Close to Britomart. Bed missing a bottom sheet and mattress protector was dirty and stained. Showed this to reception. Had apology and one dessert charge removed from our $800 plus bill for this inconvenience.

Very noisy room , ask for a quiet room the rooms on Queen St are VERY nosiy would not recommend if these are all they have. A shame as the Hotel is in a great area for the City and things to do. Not sure I would stay again.

The hotel and the location were wonderful. I marked it down as the room I stayed in had a night club next door. When I called to ask when it finished they said 2am and ask at that time if I wanted to move on the same floor to a quieter location. They are obviously aware of the night club and my expectation for a 5 star hotel is that they should have asked me at check in so I didn’t have to change rooms at 11:30pm!

Nice hotel but nightclub noise was so bad and went till 4am! Worst sleep with noise so loud and vibrating in our room. Staff moved us for our second night stay. Such a shame being so close to such a noisy area.

Really didn’t enjoy this hotel. The customer service was terrible and despite our room being available we’re not able to check in unless we paid $80 early check in fee. Rooms were strange…small, in a strange configuration and lacking some basic facilities you would expect from a 5 star hotel like a work desk. Area is quite dodgy at night…stay somewhere else.

The property itself was excellent, the room was very clean, and the location excellent. The concierge, Mark, was fantastic, and he is the only reason we continued our stay. While checking in, we asked the clerk at least 8 times to speak up as we could not hear her; she became frustrated and refused to speak up. We arrived early and our room was not ready which we expected. They have an 11am checkout; we asked for an 11:30am checkout; she said she could not accommodate our request. She told us she would call us when the room was ready; we never received a call. AFTER our assigned check-in time, we went back to see if our room was ready. We asked to speak to the other desk clerk hoping to have more productive communication. He gave us a room; we asked him if was identical to the room we had reserved; he assured us it was. The concierge, Mark, took us to the room. The room was two single beds; we had reserved and paid for a king bed! At that point we wanted to go to another hotel. Mark called the front desk and with minutes had us in a lovely room. Since we did not get a room until 30 minutes after check-in time, we asked for a 30 minute extension on checkout and were told we could checkout at 11:30am. The next morning, the same desk clerk from the day before called us because we had not checked out at 11am. This hotel is rated 5 star; in many aspects it is except for the front desk, not a pleasant experience.

Fantastic service. I had an issue with noise levels in my room for the 1st night of my stay. Staff were very attentive and accommodating when I requested a room change, if one was available. We were not only moved to a new room but unexpectedly given an upgrade to a fabulous suite. It really made our stay perfect. The Fable is a beautiful hotel at an excellent location. I love the decor although our room was very small; there wasn’t much room to move around. It’s close to shopping, dining and the ferry terminal. Outside the hotel is a bit of a letdown as there’s a few homeless people camped on the footpath. Our room was always thoroughly and quickly serviced in the morning while we’re at breakfast. Service was very good overall although staff at the Cooke’s restaurant at times seemed unsure of what they’re doing.

Beautifully renovated, well appointed and an extremely comfortable bed! Our queen room was back off the street so there wasn’t any traffic noise. Perfect location, right on the main shopping street and an easy walk to the waterfront and Spark Area. We will be back!

The Fable is a great hotel close to a great section of town - staff is excellent, rooms are great. Queen St itself is a little rough-and-ready, but it’s easy to get to a lot of nice places to eat, have coffee, etc.

Quiet sleep in such a convenient location. I was surprised how quiet the room was overnight especially considering the central city location. Fable did not disappoint. We like the mgallery options in other cities we’ve stayed in too for their convenient locations often in interesting historical buildings, Fable is so close to commercial bay, britomart lane way dining options and much more.

Another fabulous stay at Fable. Lovely staff and scrumptious decor, amenities and overall wonderful vibe. Being at the bottom of Queen St is super handy, easy walking distance to most things. Stunning meal at Cooke's Restaurant.We will definitely be back.

The hotel is located in the CBD and is located near quality shops and restaurants. We enjoyed an outstanding fish dinner and a couple great breakfasts. The rooms are well appointed and quiet. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. They offered suggestions on things to do in the area and day trips. We would stay there again.

The fable is centrally located. The staff are lovely. The rooms are beautifully decorated. I would definitely stay again. For me the main issue was the cooks restaurant, is unfortunately expensive and there are better food options available within close distance. I found the continental breakfast was average at best.

An absolute delight! Beautifully presented, exceptional service. Excellent breakfast menu, and no objections to making a few adjustments to my order. Lovely coffee, and gorgeous T2 teapots in the room and on display in the restaurant. Will stay again!

The hotel was absolutely fabulous but we did have a couple of minor issues. The first morning that the room was made up they didn't replenish the tea and coffee. Also with you eco plan, towel rails would be helpful but the bathroom was beautiful and towel rails would ruin the look so most people would throw the towel on the floor 🤷 we did have a problem with the shower overflowing (507). If you use the rainfall head the drain can't manage the flow. The restaurant was amazing (best lamb I've ever had,). The receptionist was eager and enthusiastic which always is a good thing. They also didn't account for 3 people in the room, 2 teacups, 2 coffee cups, 2 wine glasses. There were 3 towels though. We would absolutely return because it had a really charming, old fashioned, classy feel overall ❤️
