Holiday Inn Express Xi'an Ancient Town West by IHG

Staff were friendly and did their best to assist us, but the property really needs a deep clean or even a renovation. There was a persistent sewage smell throughout our stay. Although the staff offered to move us to another room, the other rooms of the same type had the same issue. We also tried using air freshener, but it didn’t help. I even had to wear a mask while sleeping. In addition to the odor, the cleanliness was concerning. There were coffee stains on the countertops, dark marks that looked like footprints on the walls, and the washroom walls were cracking due to moisture.

My room smells like sewage, table and walls had coffee stains (which I wiped it clean myself). Toothpaste was opened and used. Didn’t notice until the next morning that my room door does not lock. Basically you can push it open with a little force. The staff were nice but the hotel needs a lot of upgrading and cleaning. I booked two nights but after I found out my door does not lock I requested a refund/cancel my second night and left. Waiting for my refund.

The room was simple but efficient and more than enough for a few nights. Breakfast was included and was very nice! From the hotel it takes about 10-15mins to walk to the closest metro stations and it is also possible to walk to the old town, but this takes approx. 25-45mins, depending on where you want to go. The major sights are easily reachable via metro, though.

The hotel itself was lovely, offering a comfortable and enjoyable stay. However, tourists should be aware that reaching the main attractions requires either a 40-minute walk or a taxi ride. That said, if the distance isn’t a concern, the experience is well worth it—the hotel worked perfectly for us, and the breakfast was absolutely fantastic, adding an extra highlight to the stay.
