Such a great place. Very convenient to everything. Lovely yard area with great views and even a barbecue. Would definitely come back.

Comfortable bed, good price. Hot water was not plentiful.

Comfy, clean and affordable. Just what I needed for a quick visit. They also had a really nice outside picnic and dog area.

The staff was wonderful. Despite having multiple issues that popped up entirely of my own error, the staff was amazingly polite and wonderful! They were incredibly helpful during my issues and were able to help ensure they were sorted. There is ample parking in the lot surrounding the property, the room I was in had around 10 spaces within a few feet of the pathway. I did see signs showing that the location was pet friendly, to include seeing a few patrons with dogs. Overall the location was clean, seemed well put together, the rooms were delightful in their style and simplicity. Perfect for my travel needs.

Pros: Decent basic accommodation with restaurants and stores nearby. Friendly staff. Great outdoor area in back of inn. Cons: need light blanket or two in room. Bedspreads are too hot! Overall, we enjoyed our stay here.

The staff couldn’t have been nicer! Courteous and caring. The room was immaculate with all necessary amenities. Somewhat dated but not shabby. Very close to town. Parking was ample and right outside my door! I attended a concert at the Kate and did not want to drive an hour home late that evening, so this was perfect for me. Much more reasonable than the other places in the area. Depends on what you’re looking for. Won’t hesitate to come back again!

No hot water after 10am!!!

Parking was very convenient, and the property is pet-friendly with a nice grassy area in the back for pets to relieve themselves. The room was clean and staff were friendly, although queen size bed felt like twin xl but overall, a pleasant and hassle-free stay.

There were stains on the bedding and no hot water to shower !

Passable cheap hotel stay for a night or two. Our room was clean on the surface level, but overall was in disrepair. Carpet floor was heavily soiled and just felt gross. Extreme mold in the AC unit, almost unbreathable when on. Mold inside the shower faucet and handle. If you need a cheap stay, this is fine...barely. Reminds me of the slumlord special, you really get what you pay for. Staff was pleasant but whoever owns/maintains this place should be fined by the health inspector for the extreme levels of mold in the AC units.

Overall, this was a very dated hotel. The old chairs in the lobby were very dirty. There was a dead bug on the floor in our room. There was a towel from a prior guest hanging on the back of the door. It felt like a dorm room. The sheets were permanently stained. We will not be staying there again. Very disappointed.

This is a very nice place, perfect for a weekend, clean -- my room had faux wood floors and not that old nasty motel carpet -- very basic but good location, food and shopping nearby or across the street. Get a room on the back side and you can smell the ocean air!

This hotel is clean and safe. Parking was easy. Rooms are spacious. Staff was friendly. It's not overly fancy but was perfect for a reasonable price.

Our room, #107, was in very poor condition. This is an old property in desperate need of renovation. The dampness and mold had my eyes watering. Every movement of the room above us could be felt and heard, and literally shook my bed in the night. The floor was so dirty it was sticky. The towels and tub had hair on them. Do not stay here.

The bathroom door had a weird stain and the bedding was dirty.

Really not clean the sheets had white stains on the top and that disturbed us. But the man at the front desk was very kind! He was the only good part of the stay.

The hotel has signs that say they are under renovations, but I believe they use those as an excuse to allow them to cut corners. Our room seemed like it had not been cleaned. From the moment we opened the door there was a strong musky odor, and even though our room had a “no smoking” sign it smelled as though someone had at some point. There was a welcome mat and another little mat by the foot of the bed, both looked extremely dirty and/or worn out. The laminate floors felt greasy under our shoes when we first walked in. We then went to close the curtain to get settled and noticed many stains on them and then right below the window the AC unit was extremely dusty. The light switches had old dirt crusted. The bathroom shower head had pink mold residue and a black ring around it. The pink shower had white mildew stains and the shower curtain also was not clean, the walls were dirty the corners/floorboards, dirty, the light fixture had hair on it and a layer of dust, and the headboard also had a layer of dust, we took a disinfectant wipe to it and when we finished it was grey and light brown of dirt. There were not enough towels, not that we wanted to use or touch anything at this point. We were from out of state for a wedding and booked here as it was close to the venue and other places were sold out, so we went to a local Walmart, purchased a sheet set, pillows, and towels. I will never stay there again and will tell others to stay away. Room 221 was unacceptable.

The room was fine, although the a/c unit was a bit loud. I think it might be on its way out -- may need to be replaced. We stayed 2 nights. Our first night was a bit rough as other guests around us were a bit loud and there was a dog barking a lot. Car doors were slamming and people were very noisy going up and down the stairs to the upper floors. The stairs were close to our room. Our second night was a lot quieter and nicer. We would consider staying again if we need to come to that area.

The property was nice on the outside, nicely renovated. Staff was very nice upon arrival. Room had an odor, we booked Double Queen room the beds were full size beds which my husband and myself were very uncomfortable sleeping. One of the beds had a stain on the sheets. The coffee maker wasn’t clean an old filter was left in it.My husband had to run hot water in it to clean it to make cup of coffee. It had a great restaurant across the street. I would have given the property an 10 but, the room situation changed the rating.

The room was overall comfortable but we stayed on the first floor and all night we heard the people above us stomping around. It was very distracting and hard to sleep

Only issue....the refrigerator makes an annoying sound which is amlpified wearing hearing aids

Outside of hotel looks really nice, but beware! Room was extremely outdated. Furniture looked like it came from the free page on Facebook marketplace. Bathtub floor was cracked, carpeting was gross. On the positive side the staff was nice and polite

An old hotel they have tried very hard to look better

We booked a two night stay online. I was disappointed, the pictures I saw online were very nice and made the room and décor look a lot nicer and newer than it was in person. The whole room could definitely do with an update, including the bathroom and sink area. The sink was located outside of the bathroom which was a plus since we had three adults staying in the one room. The beds were full/double sized, not queen, so also smaller than expected. However, the location was very convenient and there were lots of shops as well as multiple food options located nearby.

The owner, VJ, and man at the lobby desk, Rick, were very friendly and helpful. Rick was able to locate scissors and a corkscrew for me to borrow. The property is a former Days Inn and is in need of renovation. The room we had was in need of new paint, bathroom fixtures, and furniture. It all looked to be from the 1970’s. Worn but clean. I posted an earlier “checkin” rating and was accosted by an employee in the lobby, asking if something was wrong with the room? I told him, “No,” I said it was “ok.” He asked, did you write a review? I said, Yes,” and said the room was “ok,” I’m appalled an employee would approach a guest and ask about a review. Very intrusive and unacceptable. Will never stay there again.

We booked here because of the reviews. Was a charming, clean and convenient hotel. Staff was so friendly.

The owner was so helpful and friendly. When our car wouldn't start due to a dead battery, he called a friend to drive over to give us a jump (since the owner's car was a hybrid and he couldn't access his battery). The grounds are beautifully landscaped with lots of blooming trees and flowers. It's very conveniently located with a great cafe across the street.

I think we bothered the lady at check in. I think she possibly forgot that her job was to check people in. Rude.

The owners are on site and very nice. Experienced in the service industry! Lovely room, good size, very comfortable.

We arrived late at night and the staff were so very friendly and accommodating. We had a small issue in our room and the staff responded immediately and so graciously to resolve it. We have stayed here before and have always enjoyed our stay.

It was a very nice one night stay. Nice breakfast lunch place right across the street. Good coffee. I believe the name was the Kettle or Tea Kettle. A beautiful farm stand right next door. Just 3 minutes drive to the Main Street of Old Saybrook.

Pier Blue Inn is overall a very good motel with very friendly and helpful staff and a good location on on Route 1 on the outskirts of Old Saybrook, across the street from an excellent café called the Tea Kettle. The King Deluxe room was spacious and had a full-size refrigerator/freezer, a rare treat in motels. The room was not very quiet though. Sound carried a lot through the walls and ceiling, a problem in a first-floor corner room, and the king size bed had the noisiest springs I have ever slept on. With a better bed I would give the Pier Blue Inn five stars.

Very good basic hotel in a nice town. Room was clean and had everything you would need for a traveler. I had a late arrival due to traffic and the check in clerk contacted me to ask about my status. He was very nice and helpful. Motel offers no food service, but there is a very nice breakfast spot across the street. Definitely would stay again.

Friendly staff. Convenient. The Himalaya Café just next doors, and the adjacent Indian restaurant, are great for breakfast and dinner.

Cozy and clean hotel. The staff were very nice. We really enjoyed our stay. There is a good breakfast/lunch restaurant across the street.

No frills, affordable, clean great place to stay! Bonus score is its directly across the street from the Tea Kettle which is the most AMAZING breakfast/lunch spot around!! Do not miss out on walking right over to try them!! Only disappointment is all their ice machines seem to be broken now otherwise a great place to rest your head.

This is our second summer staying at the Pier Blue Inn. It’s comfortable, clean, friendly and convenient. We also love the indian restaurant next door - Himalaya Cafe!

Having difficulties walking, the owner came to my car and helped bring my bags into my room. He owns an Indian restaurant next door. The food is superb.
