Venice can be expensive, so this was a perfectly suitable budget option. The staff were excellent, and really made the experience lovely. The breakfast was an extra charge, and was a bit limited, so we opted to go out for breakfast. The area is walkable and has lots of great dining options. The staff cleans very regularly and thoroughly, so even though the design motif uses a lot of fabric (which can sometimes be incompatible with a crisp look), I felt that the hotel was clean. The room was basic, but comfortable. The air conditioning worked great, and there was a lovely rooftop terrace. It's walking distance to lots of the famous sights of Venice, so that's why we stayed there, and it worked out perfectly. Again, the staff was wonderful!

There was no elevator. We had to take 62 steps to our room on the third floor. The aisle on the way to the hotel looked shady. Nevertheless, Saad was most helpful.

Seeing it from outside, you would not expect the very special inside. Very barok, fabric even on the walls. Plus: location 2min walk from Bridge of Sighs, good aircon, good bed, properly functioning fridge. Min: shower head should be replaced. I would definitely recommend this hotel to my friends.

24hr front desk. English speaking and every one was very nice! Bedroom is small, but clean. Good clean bathroom and AC worked just fine. Away from crowds but super close to St Marks, water taxi, shops and restaurants. Good signage made it easy to find. Would definitely stay here again.

The property was excellent and the location was amazing and so easy to get to just 4 min walk from the water station. The staff were great and we had a fantastic time, also we loved the roof top patio for those times when you want to just go and sit and have a quiet drink.

This property really needs some renovation. Smells like an old damaged property. The room size and cleanliness is not great at all. Bathroom is clean and renovated. No blankets were provided. There was a blanket in the closet which is used by every guest that stays there as there is no cover on the blanket. It does not fit a hospitality industry standard. They don’t even offer a complimentary water bottle. There is no elevator and if you have luggages with you good luck. Specially if you get your room on the 3rd floor then you’re definitely gonna feel it. Very very old property and the rooms have weird smell. We found a crawling bug on my bed. I forgot to take a picture of it as I was panicking. If it was first floor it would’ve made a bit more sense but I was on the 3rd floor so really didn’t make any sense. Definitely would not recommend it. Not too friendly staff. Some were okay but the rest were not so helpful. The mirror in the room has rusts all over it. It was so old you can’t even see your face properly. I was not going write anything honestly but then the review popped up so I had to. I did read about the no elevator on one of the review but I did not think it’s gonna be this bad. Not sure how this property has such a high rating honestly. Maybe because it’s right by the tourist area where the church is. The tourist area. Very much walkable a lot of shopping center but that’s anywhere you stay in this area as I realized. Good luck!

The hotel has a good location, very close to restaurants and important sites. The decor is frightening. From the moment you walk in, the bad smell is very strong. The smell of damp inside the room is overwhelming. It's very noisy inside the hotel. There's no elevator. And something very strange is that you have to leave your room keys at reception; you have no privacy

I loved the atmosphere, area and just about everything but as soon as I entered the room I could smell mold. I am highly allergic to mold and had a terrible reaction, headache, cold symptoms, the whole head thing. If you can take the mold (it’s a very old building) you’ll be fine.

The good: Hotel is an amazing location - 5 min walk away from the St. Marks square. The shared terrace/patio is amazing and great way to hang out and enjoy a meal. The bad: The room has a severely limited number of power plugs. The room feels that it was not updated in a considerable amount of time. The air conditioning units were not cleaned in a considerable amount of time. As when had them working, I noticed respiratory issues with my girlfriend (a lot of coughing at night) and basically my nose was completely blocked.

Although common for many of the places we stayed in Europe, hard mattress and 4th floor without an elevator was difficult. Small but clean room. Bathroom updated. Breakfast for 10€/ea was cereals, breads, yogurt and coffee, tea and juices. Location was about 1-2 minutes walk to the harbor and St Mark’s.

A lovely hotel with welcoming staff. Venetian style old rooms, with comfy beds of which were all cleaned and made each day. My only concern was just how thin the walls were. We could literally hear whole conversations, mobile phones, and pretty much everything else. I would advise ear plugs if I was to return.

The room looked absolutely nothing like the picture provided. Our window overlooked the storage area outside for chairs etc. the location is very good near St Mark Square, unfortunately that was the only saving grace. The bed was rough. For the price, I would look elsewhere, 2 nights in Sept with the city tax and all said and done was nearly $650 USD.

The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful! My friend and I had booked a room with two twin beds, but were given a room with one double. The staff were accommodating and ended up moving us to a bigger room that had two twin beds. The hotel is in a great location! It’s super close to Piazza San Marco, shopping, and dining! The hotel is on the older side and the bedding/amenities in the room reflect that. Hopefully, that’ll be updated in the future!

Really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Castello, very central, short walk to San Marco. All the staff were so lovely, always smiling when they greeted you and extremely helpful. the cleaners were all so friendly and polite. The rooms were very clean, small but comfortable. Only thing I would have liked was a small kettle in the room, I don’t know if this was available in other rooms that weren’t just ‘bed’ option. But it would have been lovely for a cuppa in the morning. We did however have a small mini bar where would could fit a couple bits to keep them cold. Some beautiful restaurants in the square 2 seconds from the hotel, delicious food and gracious waiters.

hard to find, directions did not get us there, but friendly people pointed us into the right direction. sign is not lit and there is no sign pointing into small street to entrance. But great location.

Fantastic hotel in the perfect location. 2 min walk to St Marks Square. Such a great little corner with restaurants and shops. So close to the waterfront etc. I would highly recommend this hotel if you are travelling to Venice. Only took us 30 mins to walk to our hotel from the train station.

Near to san Zacarria station, covenient to St Mark Sq Basilica, Grand canal and Bridge of Sighs and lots of eating place around the area. Few minutes walk to Gondolas and public and water taxis. Good rate and convenient!

the staff was very nice and helpful. the hotel is beautiful. there are A LOT of stairs, but dont let it deter you unless you are unable to climb multiple flights. The beds are VERY firm, but it seems like all of them in Italy are. The only thing that I would change was the breakfast. It's not included and its minimal. We chose to eat breakfast other places for variety and cost comparison.

Very clean, well maintained. Staff great. Breakfast included ONLY if you book directly, otherwise 10euro each and not worth it! Right around corner is Sommariva Gelateria for excellent breakfast plus several other restaurants that serve breakfast. Very close to San Marco square, and major stop for vaporetto to any where. Even with large cases you can walk from vaporetto to hotel. We would stay here again.

Bra service, vänligt bemötande, bra städning. Tyst läge och litet utsikt över takåsarna.Läget är oerhört centralt och ändå har man litet kvarterskänsla.Frukost var basal och litet tråkig.

La décoration de la chambre correspondant aux codes des palais vénitiens. C'est un peu kitsch mais parfait pour l'ambiance. Le petit-déjeuner est très décevant vu le tarif. Hôtel sympa et bien situé.

Ficamos 3 dias em Veneza e o hotel não foi uma escolha adequada. Uma noite chegamos com comida e não podíamos comer no quarto. O hotel não tem serviço de quarto. Uma das noites não tinha água quente para o banho (isso no inverno com temperaturas de 6 graus) e a calefação não funcionava. Na noite seguinte a calefação transformou o quarto em uma sauna. A cama de casal eram duas camas de solteiro e era extremamente dura. No check-in nos ofereceram café da manhã por 2 euros por pessoa/por dia, mas na hora de pagar era 12 euros por pessoa/por dia. A entrada do hotel é em uma rua totalmente escondida. Ficamos no terceiro andar, o hotel não tem elevador, uma parte da escada é bem inclinada e com os degraus estreitos. Falaram que ficaríamos no terceiro andar por causa da vista, só que a vista do quarto era andaimes de obra.

The room was spacous enough as well as the bathroom. The staff was fabulous and the breakfasts were great. It would have been nice to have it included in the price of the hotel (as many others we stayed at had included) We walked everywhere and the vaparetto location was very close when we went to go the Murano and Burano. The staff was very helpful to answer all our questions and the breakfast and cleaning staff were excellent. Thanks for the nice stay.

Great location if you want to be near San Marco square and the San Zaccaria Vaporetto stops. Just a few steps from a small square with multiple restaurants and shops. This is a great choice if you understand it is a three star hotel.Clean, well maintained and accommodating staff. The 10 euro per person fee for a cold breakfast was not worth it. Full english breakfast available around the corner at reasonable prices. Note: if you book directly with the hotel breakfast is included.

The hotel could do with some redecoration and updating, but other than that I had a really good stay. The location is amazing — I was able to walk everywhere I wanted to visit in Venice. I had no issues with cleanliness, and the reception staff were friendly, helpful and spoke English. Reception is also open 24/7. One thing I actually really liked was that you leave your room key with reception whenever you go out, and they give it back to you when you return. It means there's no risk of losing the key while you're out exploring. Overall, a great choice if you want a clean, convenient and very well-located hotel in Venice and don't mind the decor being a little dated.

The carpet and wallpaper are dated, it brings a 'history' to the room but it needs updating. Air conditioning cannot be set lower than 17 degrees Celcius (62F). City tax could only be paid in cash. You will find this in other hotels too. Check-in takes place in the main hotel area, but some rooms are accessed via a different entrance. There was no elevator/lift in our part of the hotel, bear this in mind if you struggle carrying luggage up the stairs. They want you to leave the room key at reception. It is a heavy keyring with 3 keys attached. Only plug socket type L was available. Make sure you have an adapter. Type c (standard European) will fit but it might be hanging out a little. The bathroom was new and nice, there was a bright light above the sink. Despite being fairly close to the main square, there was very little noise outside. Reception desk staff are mixed - some struggle with English or speak very quietly, others are energetic and easy to understand.
