Costarena Beach Hotel

Bottom line...great location and great set-up where you can snorkel right off the beach. Rooms were clean and nice and restaurant breakfast very good. The property is a little tired and needs more maintenance especially around the pool....but overall, just a nice experience with nice local employees.

Good location, attractive rooms, pretty garden, decent little pool, good value, excellent customer service, especially Carmen on front desk, who was outstanding, and I say that as a professor of hospitality. She was welcoming, resourceful and always cheerful. Muchas Gracias. 🙏

Ottimo rapporto qualità-prezzo. Ho prenotato la stanza con balcone vista piscina e spiaggia ed è molto semplice ma carina, comoda ed è un piacere guardare palme, spiaggia e mare dal balcone. In zona piscina si sta benissimo, la spiaggia non è la migliore della zona ma ce ne sono tante molto belle a pochi minuti di auto. A piedi si possono raggiungere ristoranti e locali. Ci tornerò

The beds are very short and with my height of 190 cm I protruded by at least 10 cm. My wife and I travel a lot, but such short beds were nowhere to be seen. We asked for an exchange for a room with two beds, but the price was unreasonably high: 600 USD. At the time, there were several hotels with twin rooms priced at $ 350-450. Unfortunately, it was no longer possible to cancel the stay here. If you have a longer figure, I recommend accommodation in another hotel. Otherwise the hotel is very clean, cleaned every day. The rooms are spacious, the hot shower works perfectly, the pool is nice. Breakfast at the beach bar across the street from the hotel was good. There were plenty of free sunbeds on the beach for hotel guests. The sea is clean with a beautiful beach and gradual access to the sea. There are also restaurants and bars in the area. Aso after a kilometer begins the zone of shops and other restaurants.

It was my second time staying at Costarena. The staff at the front desk was very friendly. The young lady who checked us in was very kind and responsive. our check-in process was smooth. However, our air conditioners were not working properly, and it took almost an hour for the maintenance person to come check-it out and that was after we went to the front desk to ask for an update. There was also an issue with our bathroom door. It would not stay closed. The hotel should make sure rooms are up to par with the basics before checking the guests in. Other than that, the rooms were comfortable and clean. We got the apartment unit and the breakfast was included. My first time staying at Costarena the breakfast was buffet style which was decent. Now, breakfast is served at the Costarena restaurant "El Kiosko" across from the hotel. The staff at El Kisko during breakfast time needs a lot of improvement and possibly to be retrained, they act very different from the rest of the staff. The staff was a bit rude and did not care to explain that the fruits and drinks were self-served which was hard to tell because the area was not equipped with plates and cups. It looked like it was part of the bar. The breakfast was very limited. The restaurants lunch/dinner menu has great variety available for purchase. The outside space is well maintained. The pool chairs and tables should be changed they're old. The hotel is in a great area easy to walk to nearby beaches and other restaurants.

Review for Costarena Hotel (Stay: November 9 -12, 2025) This was our second stay at Costarena Hotel. Our first visit was impressive—the property was quiet, affordable, and offered good value, which is why we decided to return. Unfortunately, our recent experience was disappointing and fell short of expectations. What went wrong: Room Condition B11: The floors creaked with every step, the room had a moldy smell, and the shower curtain and room curtains felt cheap. There was no hot water, so we had to shower in cold water. Wi-Fi: The connection on the third floor was nonexistent. I had to go down to the lobby just to get online. Bed & Cleanliness: The bed was extremely uncomfortable, feeling like exposed springs. I also woke up with multiple bug bites, which was unpleasant. Security: The room still uses an old-fashioned key system, which feels unsafe. Missing Item: My brand-new Bulova prescription glasses went missing from the room while we were out. This was very upsetting and unacceptable. Staff should be trained never to remove personal items unless they are clearly trash. Service: Reception staff spoke good English, but breakfast staff did not. My husband requested a Dominican breakfast and was served an American breakfast instead. We always tip housekeeping and appreciate their hard work, but losing a personal item and experiencing these issues makes it hard to trust the staff. Unless improvements are made—especially regarding security and cleanliness—we will not return.

Habitaciones cómodos y limpias

#1 the property was very clean this includes the grounds, lobby, pool, reception, restaurant and, most importantly, the room. The staff was very friendly and helpful in every position held. Our room had a small refrigerator and a hair dryer which were not listed on Expedia's website. Judith(?) checked us in and was extremely helpful and thoughtful. Carmen, also at the front desk, is an absolute asset to this hotel. Her kindness and thoughtfulness goes above and beyond what is expected. Carmen was a surprise Christmas gift as she shared her heart and her soul with us during our stay while doing her job. We will definitely stay here again when in town.

Staff is amazing. Your room is cleaned daily. Your personal stuff is safe. Carmen at the front desk speaks English & is a total sweetheart, super helpful & friendly. The room is basic. We were on the 2nd floor with an amazing ocean view. All rooms have a balcony or patio with an ocean view. The jacuzzi is fake, haha just a place to sit in the pool. Pool seems nice, but I passed it up for the amazing beaches right across the street. Best beaches to swim in are to the left! Free breakfast is basic, same every day. Coffee is great. Feed the sweet dogs named Loca & friends that visit you in the outdoor restaurant. Don’t forget to tip the staff there & your room cleaner. Internet is spotty. You don’t need much though, you are in paradise! It’s the perfect location if you don’t mind walking. Weather is perfect every day. Dress light! Be chill & friendly everywhere you go! Cheers.

Everything was great! Clean room, staff was amazing and very helpful

Stayed in a studio I believe C-2 , I stayed here 4 years ago it was horrible. its a little better with new paint, updated room but same non functional bathroom, flush or toilet leaking, shower curtain spills water out of shower, sink has no hot water. Kitchen was all odd plates and utensils , 1 cup , no water cups, no lighter to light the stove or microwave. Breakfast a little better but needs a lot to be desired. Noisy back alley with humans and cats. I guess it has a new management but nothing great.

All great except the internet not strong enough to service the TV in the room

I would say I didn’t like anything about the hotel, and yes I know you get what you pay for it but I have been in other hotels in the area at the same price with way better quality. In this hotel nothing work, I didn’t have internet, cable and the tv wasn’t working neither, air conditioner wasn’t working even know they try to fix. When I went to complain about the air conditioner in my room and with the two other reservation that I have with the same issues the receptionist was rude and tell us that we can go to another hotel if we want it, very unprofessional to make long history short, I would not recommend this hotel no even to my worst enemy, please stay away from this hotel.

Carmen, who worked reception, was so wonderful and nice and helped me with everything. The room was simple but had everything I needed plus a large balcony with a great ocean view!

L’emplacement est très bien, le personnel est très gentil. Par contre la chambre est vétuste, ça ne ressemble pas aux photos. J’avais réservé un studio avec cuisine et on nous a donné une chambre. Le prétexte le canapé ne faisait pas lit pour notre enfant alors que le site disait que oui. Et on m’a répondu profitez des beaux paysages de la République dominicaine avec un grand sourire…

I found this place to be very beautiful. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. This hotel was beach front. It had amazing views. The continental breakfast was pretty good depending on what cook that was there. The food was cooked to order. So, you could have American or Dominican breakfast. Just a side note, if you come to Las Terrenas you should know some Spanish. Most Dominican people do not speak English. For food outside of the property I’d suggest Casa Azul. Wonderful outdoor seating and the food was very tasty. If your looking for the best pizza. That is the place to go! The only cons I would say is sometimes there is not much hot water for the shower. I stayed for five days and depending on how many people were in the hotel made the difference on hot water. Also, the lockes in the doors were not that great. With that being said they have a good safe in room and at night they have a security guard. I will mention I felt completely safe. Sometimes places in the Dominican can be quite sketchy. This was not one of them. I will definitely come back to this hotel.

I stayed here for one night. Reception was very friendly, the doorman was helpful. Although the physical condition of the building was petty good, there were some deficiencies. What made my stay absolutely poor was the service from the f&b staff. First, we waited HOURS for breakfast, because they didnt have the food available. Fine, we understood this, however the server Maria, was not only rude, she was disrespectfull, rude and zero customer service skills. She needs to be retained or dismissed. After waiting 1 hour, we decided to ask about the timing, and she pretty much looked at us and turned her face in disgust. Then afrer another hour, proceeded to serve a table that came AFTER us, and then did not bring the requested breakfast plates, so now we had to WAIT longer wothout as much as an apology. I then went to Reception to voice my concerns and no solution was offered other than an apology from someone else. pretty poor service in such a beautiful beach and area.

Our Room was clean and comfortable. We also liked the balcony with the view. One Lady at the reception was really friendly and kind, the other people working in the hotel and restaurant were unfriendly. They are not speaking a single word in english and ignore you, if you do not speak spanish. The breakfast was really bad. Low quality piece of ham or salami and eggs. For the price of the hotel, the breakfast should be much better.

The check in was very professional and Carmen at the reception but the cleaning staff were rude and unprofessional that made my trip uncomfortable and ended poorly. Overall the area is great outside of the hotel.

Front desk personnel were very pleasant and accommodating. Yudith was helpful in getting us checked in and also in requesting a taxi for us. For our check out, we were assisted by Karen who was helpful in safekeeping our luggage while we went out for a bite to eat prior to leaving.

Excellent Front desk service

This is a great property to stay at because of excellent service and great views of the beach. The only thing is to be careful on storing money. We had some money stolen from our room.

The staff here are fab , Carmen the receptionist especially , The view from my room was the best , Try to get 3rd floor .. Loved the pool , mostly had it to ourselves , It’s right on sea front , 1 small road to cross , Can highly recommend , Supermarket and restaurants just steps away . Maybe some more variety for breakfast , but would go back again for sure .

Nous avons passé 1 nuit. On a aimé la situation face à la mer avec la petite plage quasi privée, malheureusement le défilé incessant de quad le soir est très bruyant. Le petit resto à côté est plutôt bon mais attention aux suppléments et la fameuse taxe de 28%. Le petit dej est très limité, que du salé.. Aucun gâteau sucré ou viennoiseries... La chambre était spacieuse et propre, mais la salle de bain un peu vétuste et petite. Porte mal insonorisée également. La dame à l'accueil très gentille et souriante. Pour le prix c'est très correct.

La playa está al frente a menos de un minuto del hotel y el restaurante está en la misma playa.

The staff, especially Carmen, was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good with lots of fruit. There was a Dominican and an American option to choose. Our room was very quiet and the AC worked great. This was our fourth time and we would go back again without hesitation. We had a nice ocean view.
