I booked a room at Olive Serviced Apartments because I thought the name of the place meant I was booking an apartment, but it turns out I booked a hotel room. Really, this is not a problem; rather, the name is a little confusing. The price is very reasonable, and the area is decent. The hotel has a kitchen that makes good, fresh food, both in the South Indian style, and also in more of a western style. I finally learned what a bread omelette is; it’s French toast. The hotel itself is very clean and quiet, and seems to be mainly used by itinerant IT workers and traveling professionals. The hotel staff are very helpful, although I did get a bit of a hard time upon arrival over the confusion regarding the expiry date of my entry visa; my guess is they don’t get a lot of foreign tourists here who come with visas, and surprise, surprise, English is not their first language, so miscommunication happens. Still, the service has been great; room cleaning, meals (which are served in a central dining room with one big table; get to meet your fellow travelers), laundry: everything was done very professionally and with great humour, actually. Overall, even though it is a little out of the way, and is tucked into a cul de sac, it’s a very clean, quiet place in a pretty good location that is easily accessible by taxi or trike. I would certainly stay here again if I return.
