Hôtel très bien, personnel sympathique, petit déjeuner un peu simple mais bon et avec des produits frais. La piscine a été bien utile en ces temps de canicule, ainsi que la Clim dans la chambre. La localisation est très bien : au calme mais près du centre. Avec un parking disponible sur place qui est aussi un plus.

This is a beautiful hotel, set in a tranquil garden, with a lovely view. The staff members were helpful and very friendly, and the room was enormous, interesting and comfortable. We enjoyed being able to walk into town, and around the ramparts of the city. It’s a pity we had just one night, we would have liked to have stayed longer. Very good breakfast

Superb hotel in a good location. The room was stunning with an open plan shower and separate toilet Extremely clean and comfortable with a great huge comfortable bed The grounds were very scenic with its own pool which we sadly didn’t use as we only strayed one night Great breakfast with a choice of fresh fruits pastries meats breads and even a faculty to make your own boiled eggs. Nice touch The decor in public areas was stunning and this place oozes class and style. It’s France after all Very close to the city walls with goood access to shopping bars and restaurants. Would recommend for sure

quelle belle découverte en plein centre d'Angoulême !! cadre magnifique (superbe piscine) / bâtiment classé / équipements de la chambre (nous avons été surclassé) au top. un écrin de verdure au calme, à 10 min à pieds du centre ville et de ses restaurants. Pour sûr, cet établissement est un vrai repère pour mes futurs déplacements professionnels (et remplacera aisément l'autre 4 étoiles d'Angoulême)

The room we were given was nicely decorated very clean and comfortable with a huge bed and a nice walk in shower Reception staff were very friendly and they gave us good information regarding the various attractions around and about The grounds were spacious clean and attractive with a swimming pool which we sadly didn’t use as we only strayed one night . Easy safe parking was a bonus . Great breakfast with a choice of fresh fruits pastries meats and breads The decor in public areas was very modern and stylish Very close to the city walls with goood access to shopping and restaurants. Lovely, mid-century style, renovated abbey in charming old centre area of Angouleme. While the hotel is a short 15-minute walk from the train station, we arrived late at night and were advised to advance book a taxi to ensure we had transportation to the hotel. Room was spacious, immaculate, bed comfortable, and well supplied with coffee, tea, and a minibar with wines, juices, and a few snacks. Staff were friendly and spoke perfect English, making it unnecessary for us to butcher the beautiful French language 😉. Our breakfast was delightful with local breads, cheeses, and a nice selection of meats, eggs, juices, and coffees/tea. We will gladly return during our next stop in Angouleme. We highly recommend the Hotel Le Saint Gelais as the best option for a stay hotel in Angouleme.

Un cadre et un accueil très agréable, l'absence d'ascenseur dans un 4 étoiles représente un bémol quand au confort. Nous avons eu surtout à déplorer un gros souci avec la partie lingerie des chambres, peignoir avec col entaché, de nombreuses serviettes que nous avons dû changer car sales, problèmes que nous avons signalé à notre départ, et connu par l'hôtel qui compte y remédier. Mais cela nous a impacté pendant notre séjour, d'autant que nous sommes restés trois nuits. L'hôtel mériterait un rafraîchissement à ce niveau de prix.

Déplacement pro pour moi et mon associée: 2 chambres réservées pour le même prix. A l'arrivee, attribution d'une très grande à l'étage et une plus petite en rez de jardin. J'ai écopé de la petite, il faisait très chaud la nuit sans possibilité de dormir les fenêtres ouvertes car donnant sur l'allée de passage des clients. J'avais hâte de cette étape à la suite d'une grosse semaine de déplacement pro mais du coup grosse déception pour moi d'avoir très mal dormi ( clim en mode chauffage). Le sol de la salle de bain etait sale en arrivant et de grosses toiles d'araignées subsistaient entre le mur et la tête de lit. On ne s'attend pas à cela dans un 4*. Points forts : lit confortable, serviettes de qualité en nombre, petit déjeuner de qualité, personnel accueillant et aimable.

What a beautiful place! Loved the room, clean, spacious and tidy. Bed was very comfortable. Had requested late check-in and email answered quickly and efficiently. Opted for breakfast and this was absolutely delicious. Our first time in Angouleme and there is so much to do and explore. Would be back in a heartbeat to experience Sainte Gelais again.

Chambre en mezzanine, il faisait 35°C sans possibilité de régler la température du chambre. J'ai dû dormir dans le canapé du RDC de la chambre avec fenêtre ouverte mais chambre donnant sur un local technique avec un bruit très fort. De plus, lavabo salle de bain bouché. Escalier pour aller à la chambre et escalier très raide dans la chambre pour aller à la mezzanine, sans être prévenue. Il ne faut pas être handicapé ou blessé.
Chambre en mezzanine, il faisait 35°C sans possibilité de régler la température du chambre. J'ai dû dormir dans le canapé du RDC de la chambre avec fenêtre ouverte mais chambre donnant sur un local technique avec un bruit très fort. De plus, lavabo salle de bain bouché. Stylish hotel in a good location. The room we were given was nicely decorated very clean and comfortable with a huge bed and a nice walk in shower Reception staff were very friendly and they gave us good information regarding the various attractions around and about The grounds were spacious clean and attractive with a swimming pool which we sadly didn’t use as we only strayed one night . Easy safe parking was a bonus . Great breakfast with a choice of fresh fruits pastries meats and breads The decor in public areas was very modern and stylish Very close to the city walls with goood access to shopping and restaurants. Would recommend for sure

Lovely, mid-century style, renovated abbey in charming old centre area of Angouleme. While the hotel is a short 15-minute walk from the train station, we arrived late at night and were advised to advance book a taxi to ensure we had transportation to the hotel. Room was spacious, immaculate, bed comfortable, and well supplied with coffee, tea, and a minibar with wines, juices, and a few snacks. Staff were friendly and spoke perfect English, making it unnecessary for us to butcher the beautiful French language 😉. Our breakfast was delightful with local breads, cheeses, and a nice selection of meats, eggs, juices, and coffees/tea. We will gladly return during our next stop in Angouleme. We highly recommend the Hotel Le Saint Gelais as the best option for a stay hotel in Angouleme.

You can see that the hotel was refurbished a few years ago and it’s a nice building in a good location but compared to the pictures online, it looks quite tired. The staff were all very pleasant. The swimming pool was lovely. The room was large and comfortable. We had breakfast, which was basic and probably not worth the €15. Generally the hotel felt like a ghost town. Aside from a few people by the pool and someone on reception, the bar was empty with nobody there to serve, the restaurant was closed apart from breakfast for the duration of our stay. We returned at 9.30pm from a meal out and everything was locked, no staff, no option to get a drink at the bar, just a number to call if there was an emergency. If you are happy doing your own thing then it’s a nice little place but it felt a bit deserted for us.
