At Filmores Hotel, travellers consistently describe a bare-bones, budget stay above a gentleman’s club, with friendly staff, basic dated rooms, limited amenities, and a central yet gritty location that can feel unsafe or noisy late at night.

I had read reviews, but had no idea of the questionable neighborhood. There were homeless camps nearby, and homeless people asked for money outside the front door. I thought that due to the proximity to the Financial district, we would have a decent place to stay. Part of the neon on the sign on the hotel was burned out. There were no amenities. Luckily, we were able-bodied because we hauled out suitcases up three flights of stairs. There was a very questionable night club on the main floor. Police sirens were constantly going by outside. I barely slept, worrying that our room would be broken into.

Staff were great but the strip club at the entrance was a surprise.

This was a last resort choice as all other hotels in the downtown core were booked or outrageous. The hotel is part of a strip club / gentlemen club in the basement and which uses the same entry door and name as the hotel up stairs. So think of very old rooms that at one time were probably rented by the hour.
