Julian Gold Rush Hotel

We had a nice experience. The staff is friendly and helpful, the breakfast was good, location outstanding. No on-site parking, which particularly on weekends can be a stressor. Rooms are exceedingly small, so plan accordingly.

By my own mistake, I booked the wrong night. The hotel staff was incredibly kind to let me still check in on the night I was in town. It saved the vacation! The accommodations were so quaint, the room was adorable. the breakfast was phenomenal. Having the parlor open for games in the evening made for a perfect stay.

Old time vibe. Lovely Victorian decor. Lots of steps and uneven walking areas for an older person.

The location is amazing, right in the middle of Julian. Shops are literally across the street. The hotel takes you back to the late 1800s in the decor. However, it has modern amenities like gas fireplaces and in room bathrooms. The complimentary breakfast is also amazing. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The only negative is you have to park on the street. It becomes an issue around midday when day trippers take up a lot of the parking. Later in the evening you can park closer to the hotel.

We enjoyed a lovely time at the Gold Rush Hotel soaking up the well-preserved history there. Beautifully decorated with many old photographs to peruse, it truly felt like we were stepping back in time while staying in a sweet little cottage at the back of the property. There are many stairs to navigate while carrying luggage so call ahead with questions if you have mobility issues. The interior was gorgeous and spotless. The A/C worked very well and we had a nice, clean bathroom. We enjoyed the privacy of sitting on our own porch both at dusk while listening to the sound of crickets and at sunrise with a cup of coffee. If walking Main Street with quaint shops, cute cafes and a very old cemetery at the edge of town is your vibe, don’t miss the history & charm of The Gold Rush Hotel.

Historic building nicely maintained. Friendly staff and located on main street in Julian. Not handicap friendly. Narrow stairways, no elevator and tiny rooms. Truly interesting facility that is an example of how hotels were at the time of the California gold rush. I would recommend it as a great history lesson

If you want to step back in gold mining history, Julian & its Julian Gold Rush Hotel should be on your list of places to stay. This is a beautifully decorated bed & breakfast in that period. Having said that, note that rooms are very small; no tvs or wifi in ours. Entertainment is provided by many books & games, allowing guests time to connect with others. Breakfast was vegetarian, with fresh fruits & local Dudley bread. You can walk to most of Julian's shops & restaurants from here. No parking lot, just on-street parking which is probably difficult with a large vehicle. Bedrooms are on 2nd floor with no handicapped access, just stairs. Lovely hotel with pretty patios & pine trees. We enjoyed staying in this historical building.

I liked the staff, the hotel was a neat throw back in time, no tv, fridge, coffee maker, microwave in the rooms, no on site hotel parking but this place is great. The breakfast was very good and included. This historic hotel was interesting, it makes you disconnect, slow down and relax. If you put your cell phone down you can get away from all the bad news, politics, propaganda etc. Just sit in the lobby, game room or on the front porch and read or drink coffee.Go shopping, have a meal, walk around the small town. I went alone, saw couples or small groups having nice conversations. No stress, coffee, tea or Hot cider was available in the dining area. Check out The Miner's diner, Julian beer co., Julian pie co., Soups and such. Julian mercantile had nice gifts & Julian cider mill. The only thing I did not like was everyone in town opens late and closes early and I wished I could've stayed longer.

First time to visit Julian, Ca. Julian Gold Rush Hotel is in the center of Apple growing country. Gold Rush is in very small letters on the hotel sign. Parking is on the streets. Midweek many places are closed because local businesses are busier on weekends. Great pie shops. The hotel stay includes breakfast served in a quaint room. The lobby has a fireplace and comfortable furniture and games. The long front porch has a raised view of the Main Street.Maiden

Loved the breakfast, furnishings, decor and courteous, friendly staff. However, our (FIRST FLOOR) room was very musty, low ceilings, noisy (from room above--uninsulated ceiling/floor?-and from heating unit too). Had no TV, which wasn't a big deal for us, but the wifi wasn't very good.

Exemplary staff from top down. This wonderful B&B in the heart of town was near perfection for us. Room was a bit cramped with 2 tasteful bureaus when we would have preferred just one. But enough nitpicking. We really enjoyed the remodeled shower area and the bed was very comfortable. The whole property was impeccably clean.Breakfast was 6 stars! Our compliments to the chef. We would definitely stay here again!

The room was not what I wanted. Tried to change it but no luck. Red carpet in room was so dirty and the door to get in the room was awful!!! When we went to bed the crack in the door and bottom had so much cold air coming in we had to block it with towels. No was not a happy camper .

Lovely historic hotel about an hour's drive from Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. Comfortable, clean room. Delicious homemade breakfast with fresh-squeezed orange juice and coffee.

If you can get the garden patio room that’s the place to stay number 19, so cute with a fireplace in it private balcony, stay in that one!

Such a gorgeous historical hotel!! The walls are very thin and windows are single pane. Floors are VERY creaky so don’t plan to stay up late because then you’ll be whispering and worried you’ll wake the other guests. The breakfast was lovely and they even had coffee and hot cider at night. It was beautifully decorated for Christmas! Perfect location! All they need to do is pull up the flooring and put in some screws so it isn’t so creaky and loud. It was a bit expensive for a tiny room but I loved the history and amenities

The hotel was charming, especiallythe lobby and dining room. However, the rooms themselves were small and cramped. The bed was too high to get onto without assistance and seemed more like a full. Also no TV, fridge or other amenities, and not comfortable for 2 people.

Room had no contiguous walls. Sweet but of course tiny bathroom and insufficient lights...the usual in older places. But people actually talked to one another in lobby and played games, hung out in garden. Sweet.

Nice Victorian era hotel with a rich history and VERY weak Wifi. Don’t plan on getting a lot done on a laptop. We stayed in room 11. Maybe other rooms had a stronger signal.

One of the best hotsl stays we have ever experienced, mainly due to the excellent customer service. The room we stayed in was a little small and cramped for us, so the staff allowed us to switch to a slightly bigger room. In that room, our air conditioner worked, but didnt get as cool as we wanted it, so the staff went out of their way to make sure it cooled down for us. They immediately changed out the air filter and brought us a fan. It was just such a great experience because they took such good care of us !

Such attention to details!! Friendly staff. Delicious breakfast and accomodated mu husbands picky palate. Also, filled our ice chest with ice when we left. Coffee ready early morning. Very walkable to everything yet not noisy. Highly recommend

Two-night stay at Julian's Gold Rush Inn has to be one the BEST times my Wife and I have had the Pleasure of enjoying. Cozy, nostalgic and the best getaway to experience the Beautiful small town of Julian and it's Hospitality. Greeted by Chris with the UTMOST SINCERE and FRIENDLINESS like immediately removed an doubt we may have had since it was our First Stay. The incredible First IMPRESSION was followed by two days of the MOST RELAXING stay. The place only has 16 Rooms from and a separate Honeymoon Suite/Room. It is an old Building and the rooms are Small with NO elevator so prepare yourself for that when checking in and out. BREAKFAST is served between 8am-9:30am and you are asked if you have dietary allergies or preference. This is NOT A BUFFET and you DO NOT ORDER from a MENU. The Breakfast was AMAZING as we had Eggs Florentine on first morning and Waffles the second as the main entree'. Both days began with beverage(coffee,tea,juice), a multi-grain cereal, yogurt and fruit. It was served by a host employee, we had the pleasure of having Lisa serve us and she was just as friendly as Chris. We shared a table that sat four with a different couple each day and made for great conversation. The room bathroom was small but efficient and there was an extra bathroom upstairs for all guests if needed. Two areas provide games and puzzles as the aounds of old 40's Big Band music played softly in the background was relaxing. We WILL BE BACK

What a hospitable place to stay! We loved it. Quiet clean cabin, perfect for our stay. The coffee was out at 6am (half hour early) because I told the gal we were leaving early. Talk about going above and beyond! We will be back when in Julian again. Thank you

They were very accommodating to our needs!

It was kind of disappointing this time. Asked in advance for nice rooms and probably had the smallest of rooms. Check in was very confusing even though I had paid deposit in advance.

Multiple issues: the mattress was older and had little support. Had a sore back in the morning as a result. The room looked like it was remodeled to have a closet converted to a shower and toilet with extremely tight room to move. The sink to wash your hands looked it was in another converted closet across the room. I didn’t like the fact I have to manuever around the bed to the other side to wash my hands after using the rest room. No tv in the room which I haven’t seen before in a hotel. The shower had a different way to get the water flowing and there was no instruction on how to use it. When I asked the front desk they couldn’t help me. They sent up the owner who wasn’t open to listening to what my problem was. Once I stopped her and explained what was happening she then told me how to get the shower to work. Not very open to feedback either and was kinda unpleasant when I offered it.

Friendly staff, quick check in.

I made a reservation for March 23-25 for my wife and myself. Upon arrival (6:30 pm), I filled out the form for 3 people (bringing my 5-year-old daughter). At the front desk, I was informed that the occupancy was strictly limited to only 2 people in the room. I was told that I had to take 2 rooms because only 2 people could sleep in the reservation. I told them it was just a child and that their EXPEDIA page clearly states that it is a family hotel, and extra charges apply for additional persons, which is perfectly understandable. I spoke with their manager and they couldn't do anything. They asked me to take a second room. I would be charged for both nights of my reservation, even if I decided to leave. We stayed that night. I paid for 2 rooms but did not use the second one. It was a very strange and unpleasant situation to separate a family with a child. The next morning, I went for coffee with my daughter to their lounge, and a large breed dog almost attacked her, coming within 1 inch of reaching her. The dog's owner, an employee of the hotel, managed to control it. The hotel policies do not allow dogs, except for service animals. We left in the morning of the 24th. We have traveled all over the world and this is the most unpleasant and absurd experience. The quality, warmth, and reasoning of this establishment are very poor.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at tge Julian Gold Rush Hotel.Perfect location in Julian easy walking distance to stores,cafes,restaurants.Hotel staff were great,helpful and friendly.Breakfast delicious :)The historic character of this over 100 year old Hotel has been preserved beautifully giving it's guests a feeling of stepping back in time.We'll definitely be back next time we're in Julian.

It was a very historic building and had a very eclectic feel. The staff was very nice, and the property was located close to shops and restaurants.

We had a relaxing and comfortable 2-night stay at The Historic Julian Hotel. It was perfectly located in the heart of Julian where we could walk a block to church, Italian food, gift shops and other eateries. Next door for excellent Mexican food. Wish we had more time for more exploring but had to get back home. Definitely, will be back.

No parking Room is small but very clean

Our first time in Julian and this place is right on Main St so walking to anywhere in the town is easy. Very small rooms but they are clean. Breakfast is only served for the one hour and I thought it might be better according to reviews. Coffee was good. Overall it was nice for the price.

The hotel and staff were great and the breakfast each morning was the best we’ve had at a hotel. I would pay just to have breakfast there every morning.

Julian Hotel was exactly what we had expected and hoped for.What an incredible history! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and only wish we had had more time to relax and fully appreciate the wonderful breakfast we were served in the morning.

Super cute hotel. Amazingly retained so many original features making it very quirky. Don't expect high end luxury, rooms are tiny but that just adds to the charm. Staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. The included breakfast is fabulous, fresh and filling. Beware though everything in the town is closed by 8pm, including bars and restaurants.

This hotel is historic, established in 1897. No tv or telephone which made it a welcome escape from big city life. This bed and breakfast was extremely cozy and quiet, the best sleep I've had in a long time. The staff was very friendly and very accommodating. A delicious, healthy breakfast of fruit, yogurt, granola,toast eggs and juice was top-notch! Thanks to the entire staff for our wonderful stay!

Stayed here for our wedding in the honeymoon house. It was gorgeous , quiet, convenient and plenty of street parking. Breakfast is phenomenal!
