Amazing hotel. Views and beach walk was amazing. Easy drive to vik and beyond. Restaurant was delicious but eclectic. If you want somewhere more casual to eat you have to go into Vik. Sauna was gorgeous and staff was great, highly recommend!

Best hotel in the area in my opinion. Definitely would recommend if you're travelling through. Breakfast was nice and the evening restaurant food was very impressive. Only issue i found was the price tag on using the sauna, very expensive, hence why i didnt use it.

The setting for this hotel is absolutely breathtaking, situated between a glacier and a private black sand beach. The hotel is very comfortable. Dinner was probably the best meal we had in Iceland. As a bonus, an elderly horse lives on the property and lets people pet her.

This is a 2 star motel at best. Very basic rooms and facilities. We paid almost 500€ for 2 adults and a child for a tiny room. Room 101 was very noisy as it is the 1st room next to the restaurant At night we heard banging sounds and loud voices. Even with the window closed, they have a huge problem with their air vents in the toilet making an unbearable noise with the wind outside. When the window is open the sound is completely deafening! Anything but peaceful, The hotel had an unpleasant wet shoes/socks smell all throughout!!! Corridor leading to all the rooms is very dark and dingy! This was NOT a comfortable stay for us and definitely our least favorite place in all our 6 hotels in Iceland! Hotel interior in general looks cheap and budget level. Very deceiving!

The room we got first stank awfully because of fresh painting/restoring? The guy from the hotel would not tell, but we got another room immediately. It seemed we came too early in the season (beg. May) and the rooms still showed some deficiencies. The light in the rooms and the hallways was extremely dark! Anything else was okay, the view and site superb! The rooms were clean and well equipped, dinner was interesting, good, breakfast also good.

We went to the UMI for a few nights to celebrate my 60th birthday. Staff was lovely and so nice upon our arrival. Our room was so clean and so pretty and overlooked the grass fields and could see the waves crashing onto the beach about 20 minutes away. We immediately (upon Jason's recommendation!) took a walk out to the beach. He said to wear appropriate shoes as it was very marshy. We had hiking poles and walked out there in about 20 minutes - never had an issue. We were the only people on the beach and it was amazing. So beautiful and peaceful.. Great place! Breakfast was very nice, happy hour was lovely, and my birthday dinner at their wonderful restaurant was both delicious and fun! They sang happy birthday! I highly recommend this hotel - we will DEFINITELY go there again on our next Iceland trip!

We enjoyed our time here. We did find vegan options at the restaurant and breakfast. The staff alerted us that the northern lights were visible. It was breathtaking. We couldn’t believe how strong the aurora we saw was. Some of the other guests really played a role in our stay not being as pleasant as we had hoped. The rooms have no sound proofing. You can hear everything in the hallway. So many people were up early, shouting, children yelling + running. I am usually a heavy sleeper that can sleep through nonstop music and construction but this was something else. We would not stay here again due to the noise.

UMI hotel is absolutely exceptional. The bedrooms are comfortable with exquisite bathrooms. The accommodations are wonderful. The bar is a vibe and the restaurant had some of the best food we’ve had on our trip. The location and surroundings of the property make you feel like you are the luckiest person in Iceland. I will never forget this place and hope to come back.

There were pros and cons to our stay. I will still give 10/10 because the dinner we had was amazing, the property and walk to the beach was stunning, and the staff was incredibly friendly. However, the rooms were smaller than the other stays in Iceland. It also got very hot at night and the window would only open an inch or so. No black out curtains but this wasn't a problem for us during our September stay. The bathroom sink would spill over if turned on full blast. These things were annoying and might deter some but we would probably stay again and recommend to family and friends!

From the moment we arrived, we felt welcome. The staff were always attentive and friendly while still being down to earth. Both breakfast and dinner were just lovely, with locally sourced ingredients and creative cocktails. The sauna and yoga room proved necessary at the end of each day of hiking and exploring the area - it’s so close to Skógafoss, Seljalandsfoss, Solheimajökull, Reynisfjara, and Vik. This is a beautiful property, with awe-inspiring scenery from every angle, so bring your camera. The walk to the beach takes a bit longer than they say, but it’s worth it. We got lucky early on our first evening with a short but unexpected burst of aurora activity - just standing outside looking at the stars in the right place at the right time! - but they do have a wake-up service for anyone wishing to see the northern lights when they start up. My only (minor) demerit was for the bed comfort, but it’s certainly not the worst I’ve had in Iceland or anywhere else in Europe, so it’s barely worth mentioning. I will definitely return to UMI! <3

Quite a disappointing experience given the stellar reviews. We were very excited to visit. When we got there, we were given a twin bed room (vs double) without asking which really ruined the experience for us on the first night. While they fixed this quickly day 2, the biggest disappointment was that we signed up for a wake up call to see the northern lights and they didn’t knock on our door. We travelled thousands of kms to come see it and while they appeared that night (as confirmed by the reception) they missed knocking on our door. If they didn’t offer that service we would have been alert on our own but we depended on the hotel and was disappointed by the service.

Wonderful stay at Umi. Staff were very friendly, warm and welcoming and very helpful. Particularly in notifying when the Lights appeared. Hotel is in a stunning location. Hotel is fantastic! Restaurant was also great, good food and great service. Cannot find any fault! Would highly recommend and will definitely be back!

Beautiful, small boutique hotel in great location off the Ring road route near Skógafoss and 30 min from Dyrhólaey and black sand beach. Staff is lovely and dinner is great. It is somewhat isolated so dining at the hotel is the easiest as it’s probably a 40 minute drive to Vik. There is a 15 min private walk on property to black sand beach with virtually no one in sight for miles - stunning. At night horses came from the nearby farm to drink from the little pond outside our window and guests were feeding them. A great, peaceful hotel.

Great spot, top notch. Views were amazing and walk to the black sand beach area easy and straight forward. There was a list to be awakened if Northern Lights showed (which they did) and really appreciated that option.

Not good value for money - at $600/ night and an exceptional rating I had high expectations and this was not met. Breakfast was very poor. Meals in restaurant hit or miss (gnocchi was inedible not only for me but a lady at a nearby table said she had sent it back the night before). During the day, ironing boards are out in the hallway for the linens - have never seen this before. The welcome gift of a bottle sparking wine was a miniature for 2 guests. Overall disappointing and would not be back.
