Thought this place might be a bit much for me as a solo traveller working remotely and not wanting to party but honestly it has best of both worlds. Loads of events and activities going on but also an incredible working space, lots of places to chill, pretty quiet in the rooms and all the facilities you could need - literally seconds walk from the most exceptional beaches as well! Ideal for any kind of traveller

Be aware this is the worst kind of party hostel, fridge filled to the brim and never cleaned out. Unbelievably loud music goes on till midnight. A/c was set to 24 c for the whole room of 12 people and was unbearably hot. I had to sleep with a fan and my curtain open to be able to even remotely sleep. If it wasn’t so late I couldn’t check into another hotel I absolutely would’ve. They try to nickel and dime you for everything. I never received a towel lol. This place was just awful. It is meant to be a place you can work and stay but music is so loud that’s not possible… filled to the brim with people but not kept up with.

I switched from another hostel to Mayan Monkey, and it was the best decision I could have made. The place is clean and comfortable, and the staff is incredibly kind and friendly. The front desk team is very helpful, and Miguel from the bar is the best! Thank you all for everything!

My Favorite Stay in Cancún! From the moment I checked in, I felt the good vibes! The staff are friendly, helpful, and always smiling. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and modern, with plenty of lockers for your things. The location is perfect—right across from the beach and walking distance to shops, restaurants, and nightlife. I loved the bar and DJ nights; such a fun way to meet new people from all over the world. They even let you request a takeaway breakfast if you have an early tour, and the laundry service was a lifesaver before heading home. The pool area is perfect for relaxing in the afternoon, and the social atmosphere makes solo travel feel anything but lonely. If you’re looking for a place that’s safe, clean, and full of energy—Mayan Monkey is the spot!

This was a really awesome hostel! The staff was awesome, the place was really nice and had a nice view, and was in a good location. The only thing I didn't like was their luggage storage area near the door. It's just an open cubby right next to the sidewalk, so anyone could easily just reach in and grab a bag and take off. It'd be cool if they could make that more secure somehow. But everything else was great!

Cool, intimate, & trendy property with walkable location. Convenient with a beach right across the street. Appreciate nightly entertainment in case you don’t feel safe to leave the property at night. There’s also a work space. The dorms have lockers. So bring your own lock or can buy from them for $6. The dorms themselves need more detailed cleaning. The women guests are messy. Old towels need to be taken away. Need more hooks around the quarters to hang our things. Hangars on the lockers are placed too high. How can 5.4’ guests use them? Just some things to improve upon.

If you are looking for a party hostel close to all the clubs, bars and all the craziness or looking for some peace and quiet with yoga in the morning, this is the place to be. Shout out to the night bar staff, they were amazing. Sorry only remember bartender Christian's name, the two girls (going around with tequila) and to the skinny bartender, thank you for all the smiles and good vibes :). However, I didn't find the front desk staff friendly or welcoming but they were ok. Overall, worth the stay.

El hostal es muy bueno, tiene camas grandes y con mucho espacio para tus cosas, las taquillas son enormes y tienen enchufes para cargar tus aparatos electrónicos. La limpieza es muy baja, he encontrado sábanas manchadas de sangre y demás. El hostal es muy ruidoso, hay música hasta la 1 de la mañana como mínimo y muchas habitaciones tiemblan de tanto ruido (he estado en 3 diferentes). El sitio está lleno de americanos de vacaciones, que van a Cancún para emborracharse y irse de fiesta, si te molesta el ruido o quieres algo tranquilo, no vayas aquí. Tiene un bar y una piscina aunque muy pequeña, cara a la laguna de Cancún. Ñ Por la noche hay mucha gente bailando y hacen promociones sobre las bebidas. El personal de la recepción es el más maleducado que he encontrado nunca, si le pides informaciones te contestan siempre que no saben, y a veces hasta te contestan mal si le pides algo.

Elsker dette hostellet. Første gang jeg har bodd på privatrom her, og det skuffet ikke! Rommet var stort og fint, prismessig likt rom på hotell i området,men med mulighet til å få delta i den sosiale biten som hostell gir. Noe slitt rom, og noe dårlig renhold i hjørner, men dette er sikkert tilfeldig. Store gode senger

Solo traveling first time ever in 20s I was worried before I left. What if I didn’t like it or felt unsafe? Right away after checking in I felt the reality of this place. Amazing experience. Where else can you find a place to stay this affordable with this high of a standard. My stay at the Mayan monkey was nothing short of amazing. The breakfast was ridiculously good. The staff were super helpful and I felt very safe and welcomed by everybody there. I even lost my AirPods and a staff member found me and returned them. Looking forward to seeing you guys again. Bonus is the bathrooms are spotless.

This hostel was great for a solo traveller. The whole place was clean and well layed out. The breakfast was excellent and the view over the lagoon was lovely. The hostel is across the road from a nice public beach an and very close to restaurants and shops. I stayed in a Private room for 1 night after landing in Cancun and then moved to a 10 bed dorm. The dorm was excellent with incredibly comfy beds, lockers, towels provided and it was always very clean. The private room had a private bathroom, separate towels for beach and the bathroom, and all the toiletries provided.
This hostel was great for a solo traveller. The whole place was clean and well layed out. The breakfast was excellent and the view over the lagoon was lovely. OMG, how I loved this hostel!! I thought the cleaning would not be as good because I was sharing the room with more people, but I was so surprised to see that they kept it clean (Maybe I just got lucky with the roommates). The people from reception were always absolutely kind and respectful. It's just a 3-minute walk from an amazing beach and honestly so walkable to good restaurants. When you need to go somewhere far, you can just get the bus at the bus stop next to the hostel. I really liked it and would recommend it.

This is in a good location - walking distance to the strip and they have it set up to socialize. BUT rooms are small/crowded - the toilet areas and showers are small, there is black mold on the ceilings and walls - they don’t come in and clean enough as the floors are all wet, there’s hair in the showers, etc. the place is old, run down and def a health hazard but if you don’t care too much about that stuff and want a real hostel with people mingling, this is the spot.

Mi estancia en este Hostal fue realmente excelente. Lo que más me encantó fue la calidad humana del lugar el staff es muy buena onda, amable y siempre dispuesto a ayudar; hicieron la experiencia mucho más agradable. Además del trato inmejorable, las instalaciones están impecables y muy limpias, algo que valoro muchísimo. El ambiente que se respira es genial, muy amigable y fácil para conocer gente. Si buscas un lugar con buena energía, limpieza impecable y un personal excepcional, este es el lugar. ¡Totalmente recomendado!

If it wasn’t so late I couldn’t check into another hotel I absolutely would’ve. They try to nickel and dime you for everything. I never received a towel lol. This place was just awful. It is meant to be a place you can work and stay but music is so loud that’s not possible… filled to the brim with people but not kept up with.

I stayed at Mayan Monkey for 14 nights in an 8-bed dorm, and overall I had an excellent experience. The room had plenty of space, with two water closets, two showers, and two sinks, so waiting to clean up was rarely an issue. Lockers were large and secure — big enough to store everything without feeling cramped. Hot water was always available, which is something I really appreciated. I didn’t use the bar, but it added to the lively atmosphere. The kitchen was functional but small, and the shared fridge was pretty chaotic. There were baskets for personal food storage, but almost all of them were full. It worked, just wasn’t the most organized. Because of that, I mostly bought my meals and drinks at Super Selecto Chedraui — only about a 10-minute walk away and super convenient. The crowd was one of the best parts — energetic, friendly, mostly younger travelers who liked to interact and socialize. The computer room overlooking the kitchen/bar area was a great space to relax or get things done while still feeling connected to the vibe below. The location couldn’t be better. Beach access is directly across the street and even has a public restroom. The area felt light, fun, and uplifting. Compared to Nomad’s Party Hostel, Mayan Monkey had a happier, more relaxed feel while still being social. Even if it costs a little more, I think the beach access alone makes it worth it. I’d absolutely stay here again.

Super schöne, helle und saubere Zimmer, sehr nah am Traumstrand. Zimmer zur Strassenseite ist extrem laut und man kann die Terrasse eigentlich nicht genießen. Nur teure 7/11 Einkaufsmöglichkeiten in der Nähe.

I transferred to the solo bedroom. Much less noise. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. The shower was a bit inconvenient as there was nowhere to place the soap. The soap was also very jelly-like so it couldn’t come out the pump. Luckily I had my own.

This was a shared 6 person mixed room. However, the room was right next to the bar/dining area and was consistently noisy in the evening till around 1am. The music was played sooooo loudly that it affected sleeping. The bed was comfortable, the shared restroom surprisingly clean.

El lugar está bastante bien, cerca de las playas, en general limpio y con buen servicio! Mi única mala experiencia fue que me robaron mi mochila la cual contenía mi cartera con todas mis identificaciones y algunas cosas de valor en el bar del hostal, no hubo apoyo por parte del personal para tratar de revisar las cámaras ni para identificar a quien lo había tomado ya que era otra huésped del hostal!

Llegué a intentar hacer check in al rededor de las 10:30 de la noche, ya que mi vuelo de Chicago venía demorado, y tomando en cuenta que mi estancia ya estaba pagada, y el chico de recepción no me dio acceso, argumentó que admitía hasta las 10 en punto, que me fuera a un Motel mejor, entonces tuve que dormir en el auto que había rentado, me trató pésimo, estoy seguro que estaba bajo los efectos de bebidas embriagantes! PÉSIMA RECOMENDACIÓN para alojarse ! son unos groseros !!

Solo traveling first time ever in 20s I was worried before I left. What if I didn’t like it or felt unsafe? Right away after checking in I felt the reality of this place. Amazing experience. Where else can you find a place to stay this affordable with this high of a standard. My stay at the Mayan monkey was nothing short of amazing. The breakfast was ridiculously good. The staff were super helpful and I felt very safe and welcomed by everybody there. I even lost my AirPods and a staff member found me and returned them. Looking forward to seeing you guys again. Bonus is the bathrooms are spotless.

So I have mixed feelings. This is basically a hostel so if you're looking for that vibe, go for it. We picked this hotel since Expedia said it had 'parking available' but when we arrived they informed us they don't have parking, and we need to use the lot next to the adjacent restaurant. When I informed the front desk lady the lot was full, she gave me attitude and said 'do you want to cancel'? Umm, we're already here.

If you are looking for a party hostel close to all the clubs, bars and all the craziness or looking for some peace and quiet with yoga in the morning, this is the place to be. Shout out to the night bar staff, they were amazing. Sorry only remember bartender Christian's name, the two girls (going around with tequila) and to the skinny bartender, thank you for all the smiles and good vibes :). However, I didn't find the front desk staff friendly or welcoming but they were ok. Overall, worth the stay.

Convenient location as it’s right by a bus stop and there is a taco restaurant and OXXO steps away. Playa Chac Mool public access is literally across the street. The room itself was nice and comfortable. The breakfast was just ok. There are daily activities that you can join (we didn’t join any but it would be a nice option for more social people). Deducting a star because while we were there, 2 different people lost belongings (money and phone) in the property. Also after check out if you want to keep your stuff there, they charge $5 for the secure locker. Otherwise you can just leave it inside an unlocked cabinet right by the entrance and hope for the best.

Loved this place! The location is great. Right across the street from a beautiful beach and walking distance to a supermarket and the ferry to Isla Mujeres. They have a property on Isla Mujeres that is right on the beach and you can get a day pass to that property by talking to the manager.

I stayed for three nights and had a good time. I went out most of the day and came back mostly just to rest. There is a beach right across the street from the bus stop next to entrance. It is very conveniently located. There’s a supermarket (Chedraui) up the street, a convenience store and pharmacy right across the street. Transportation was always coming by despite it being an “off season” from what I was told.

Okay for a few nights in the hotel zone. Small pool and bar - but good vibe there. Check in/out staff unfriendly and unhelpful. Bar staff also a little dismissive. Breakfast was great - view from the pool area is wonderful. Good place for a few nights in Cancun - close to public beach access.

Me encantó la dinamica de que es un hotel para lit conocer gente salir y solo llegar a dormir, el desayuno 10/10 delicioso, la atención en recepción increíble! los drinks super buenos. El area de coworking también es un super SI!

Overall, I’m quite pleased with my stay, but there are a couple of areas that need improvement to make the experience even better. After a long, tiring flight, I was really looking forward to relaxing, but that prolonged check-in made it difficult to start my stay on a positive note. It’s something that could definitely be sped up for the comfort of future guests. The second area for improvement is the restaurant service, especially during breakfast. While the food itself was enjoyable, the service was slower than expected. If you plan to have breakfast there, I’d recommend setting aside at least an hour and a half. The slow pace can be a bit frustrating, especially if you’re eager to get out and enjoy the day. The leisurely service felt more inconvenient than relaxing, which was slightly disappointing.That said, there’s a lot to love about this hostel. The atmosphere is inviting, and the facilities are top-notch. The staff members are friendly, welcoming, and genuinely seem to care about making sure you have a great time. Despite the minor inconveniences, we really enjoyed our stay and made some wonderful memories. Thank you for the experience! Just a suggestion—if things could move a little faster, especially at check-in and breakfast, it would really enhance the overall experience. My Favorite Stay in Cancún! From the moment I checked in, I felt the good vibes! The staff are friendly, helpful, and always smiling. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and modern, with plenty of lockers for your things. The location is perfect—right across from the beach and walking distance to shops, restaurants, and nightlife. I loved the bar and DJ nights; such a fun way to meet new people from all over the world. They even let you request a takeaway breakfast if you have an early tour, and the laundry service was a lifesaver before heading home. The pool area is perfect for relaxing in the afternoon, and the social atmosphere makes solo travel feel anything but lonely. If you’re looking for a place that’s safe, clean, and full of energy—Mayan Monkey is the spot!

Solo traveling first time ever in 20s I was worried before I left. What if I didn’t like it or felt unsafe? Right away after checking in I felt the reality of this place. Amazing experience. Where else can you find a place to stay this affordable with this high of a standard. My stay at the Mayan monkey was nothing short of amazing. The breakfast was ridiculously good. The staff were super helpful and I felt very safe and welcomed by everybody there. I even lost my AirPods and a staff member found me and returned them. Looking forward to seeing you guys again. Bonus is the bathrooms are spotless.

If you are looking for a party hostel close to all the clubs, bars and all the craziness or looking for some peace and quiet with yoga in the morning, this is the place to be. Shout out to the night bar staff, they were amazing. Sorry only remember bartender Christian's name, the two girls (going around with tequila) and to the skinny bartender, thank you for all the smiles and good vibes :). However, I didn't find the front desk staff friendly or welcoming but they were ok. Overall, worth the stay.

Faltan enseres de cocina, vasos, platos, cucharas, cuchillos, tenedores, falta Horno de microondas, no hay pluma o plumón para anotar pertenencias en el refrigerador, el refrigerador muy muy lleno y mal acomodado. Cocina limpia pero mobiliario en mal estado que da apariencia sucia.faltan ventiladores y sombrillas en áreas comunes.

The checkin wasn't bad, was my first time visiting Cancun and Mexico in general so everything was a little overwhelming. I somehow got stuck with the room right above the common area, which plays loud music all day everyday until at least 11 pm, sometimes as late as midnight or 12:30 am. I had tour outings planned for 5 am and 7 am on 2 of the days I was there, so I would've enjoyed more time to be able to sleep. Also, every time I went to the common area to fill up my water container, where the loud music was being played, I only saw maybe like 5 to 8 people some just sitting by themselves and not partying. The music is so loud that you can barely hear someone talking to you, so even if I was there with a group I wouldn't have enjoyed it. I get that this is a party hostel, but perhaps limit the loud music to Thurs-Sat in the late evenings. Who is partying til midnight on a Monday? Also as a first timer to Cancun, I didn't realize there was basically a fortress of hotels blocking access to the beach (security at every hotel that won't let you enter unless you're a guest) except for a few easily missable public beach entrances. Given this hostel is on the "lagoon" side, it made access to the beach a bit confusing for me but I eventually found the way to get there. I appreciated the water refill station, that made things a lot easier. For the price, it was worth it I guess, but the loud music really was a huge negative to me. If that doesn't bother you, then this is your place.

Beautiful view with pool, bar, foods, some workout equipment and necessities like sunscreen, water, etc available for purchase at entrance. Free yoga classes, activities and welcome drinks to open connection between other hostel guests and/or staff. Air conditioned rooms cleaned daily. Luggage storage available if you arrive early or leave later than check in or out times. Would Absolutrly recommend again but there is some unfinished/broken pieces not removed or fixed. Saying that, Theyre not in the way of everything else!
