The Garden Cottage - Pet Friendly & 5 Mins to Town

The place was great and roomy. Screen porch was a nice accent. More cooking spoons and utensils needed. Overall the place was worth the money.

The host was quick to respond to any questions/concerns we had. Property was an about 10 minutes from downtown. Enjoyed our stay here.

Property is located in an extremely poor neighborhood, surrounded by other properties with chickens and roosters that start crying at the crack of dawn. Wood floor under linoleum is rotting away (soft spots which sag when walking across) and extremely undulated with cracks and tears in the linoleum covered by small rugs. Towel rack in master bathroom is falling off the wall and bathtub is very slippery with nothing in the tub to prevent slips and falls (my wife (who is young) slipped and fell while stepping into the shower).

Homeowner NEVER responded to us or VRBO. Upon arriving at this property the initial thing you will notice is the location is NOT as described. It is not in a sought out area and not in historic district. You will not be walking around after dark in that area, there will be chickens in the yard so beware of that also. The cleanliness of the property was ok upon entering. The house was "cleaned" but def not like other VRBO's I have stayed in. The coffee maker was dirty, had obv been sitting. After the bug infestation I realized that there was roach legs etc on the plates after. The accuracy of the listing is profoundly wrong. This experience truly ruined my family's vacation and this is the first time I have been able to take my family on a trip like this. The place is INFESTED with bugs. Roaches, water bugs, little and big. Obv babies. They came out after dark like a movie on tv. Then we started looking in the rooms etc. Even pulled the sheets back and they had bugs in the bed, on the covers. In the bathrooms. It was like something truly from tv. Then they started coming out of the dishwasher. At this point the 3 children with me who arrived at 12 am! Had to be relocated in the middle of the night and all our belongings. Which to be honest roaches came home with us. Pest control is coming. We then had NO WHERE to go, VRBO told us about their relocating program. Nightmare as well. We had to pay way more for another locacrtion due to booking the same week.

I selected this residence for a Christmas retreat, hoping to share quality time with my mother. Unfortunately, the experience proved highly unsatisfactory, prompting an early departure due to mounting discomfort. Upon arrival, we encountered a lockbox on the door with a combination lock. Despite attempts to open it with the provided code, we were unsuccessful. Contacting Diane, the listed contact, she insisted on resetting the code, providing no clarity on the process for a manual lock. Despite sharing a photo of the lock, she failed to inform us it wasn't the intended one. After much frustration, we discovered another keypad on the lock, an unconventional feature. Entering, a strong bleach odor permeated the kitchen, and one bedroom reeked of urine. Opting for alternative accommodations, we found the master bedroom's bathroom dirty, with hair in the shower. Bedding revealed unsightly stains and hair, necessitating caution during use. Stained towels in the bathroom further added to our disappointment. A message expressing our discontent received no response, indicative of a lack of concern. Contrary to the description, the neighborhood felt unsafe. The next day, we explored the town briefly before deciding to leave. Despite notifying management via email, no acknowledgment was received. An email inquiring about check-in further suggested a lack of manual oversight, likely automated. In summary, I cannot endorse this property.
