Stayed 4 nights

My family of 4 (wife, 16 yr old son, 13yr old daughter) and I have been to Vietnam for vacation for the past 3 years and have stayed in different cities (Da Nang, Hoi An, Nha Trang, Hanoi, Phu Quoc & Ho Chi Minh City). The place we wanted to book wasn't available so we chose Altara. In general, for the value of what you pay for this hotel, it's good. The pros. You're across from the beach. You get 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a kitchen and a living room area with a small balcony. There's a separate washer and drier which is a big plus! (Usually at other hotels you get the washer/drier combo machine, which is better than nothing, but doing laundry with those takes a long time and the steam dry takes forever to dry your clothes and you still have to air dry them.) The included breakfast is good, again for the value for the price you stay, but I've had better at other places we've stayed. There is a pool and fitness area (fitness area has a great view). The cons. The pictures online appear to be altered, or are taken further, to make Altara seem newer that it is. This hotel is older. Upon closer look you can see worn down paint and fixtures. There's an older smell about the building. The rooms are musty. The biggest negative, the eyesore next door. So most of our view outside our balcony, window and across from the lobby is an abandoned hotel project. We have a peekabo view of the beach if you ignore the huge cement shell of a building under "construction." This was not indicated

The suite was large and spacious, which we appreciated during our stay. However, there was a noticeable mildewy smell in the room. The staff was accommodating and moved us to a different room with a much better view after our initial room overlooked an abandoned high-rise building. The food and breakfast were standard—nothing particularly memorable. Overall, the property could use some improvements, as there were visible paint chips and stained flooring in the outdoor areas. The location is a plus, with easy access to the beach. That said, my biggest complaint is the elevator situation. It takes a very long time to get one, and when it does arrive, it’s often partially occupied by service staff, making it even more inconvenient.

The room didn't look like the pictures! Everything in the room was a bit damaged and tatty. Wood everywhere, which made it dark and the wood was chipped on every corner, making it feel run down. Location was good, but no balcony and view wasn't great. Breakfast was good and walkable to lots of areas with restaurants and bars. It wasn't clear on the listing that this is an apartment hotel and right next to the Sheraton, which looked a lot smarter. The lifts were terrible with average wait of 10 minutes to get up or down, unfortunately. We enjoyed our stay overall, but wouldn't stay here again.
