The Old Borough Hotel - Wetherspoon

The hotel reception is odd. You walk into the main floor bar and the ‘reception’ is a small office at the end of the bar. The elevator is the weirdest one I’ve ever seen. I rode it once, and thought I was stuck until I figured out how to open the door. Some instructions would have been useful. I didn’t ride it a 2nd time. Nice basic restaurant and bar on the main level. One of the few places I visited that provided ‘normal’ sized meals instead of ludicrously oversized sandwiches like many places serve. The breakfast options were limited. I usually just have a pastry or brown bread and coffee or tea, but no pastries, scones, or breads were available.

The room was spotless and comfortable. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The only downside was the parking. The private car park at premises is very small so there was no availability on my arrival. The parking spaces on the main street were full. I found a parking space on a residential street a 7 minute walk away.

Boutique hotel above a bustling pub in a historic building. Beautiful architectural features. Pub is a local hangout. Easy walk to Swords castle, restaurants & shopping. 5 min from airport. Enjoyed our stay. Parking lot is tiny, so if you arrive in late afternoon, they’ll have to give you a voucher to park offsite.

Clean with updated rooms and bathroom. Only con is the place does not have a reception area. You must check in at the lobby restaurant/bar with the person working the bar.

We’re not told about the lift so dragged our luggage up the stairs. When checking out we did take the lift and once down we couldn’t open the door. We were stuck in lift for 8-10 minutes until we were able to flag down someone walking by and they notified management…need better instructions!

Would like more parking

It was a hotel on top of a pub. Not fancy, but comfortable. Order everything from the bar including food, drinks, and hotel room. Not much parking and a little hard to find, but we felt secure, had a good dinner, and enjoyed the pub atmosphere.

Room was fabulous, high ceilings, brick walls... Parking was horrible, had to park on street, only about 6-8 spaces at Hotel/Pub. Check-in was not easy (a tiny corner of the very large pub). Staff wasn't great, but the room made up for it somewhat.

Parking was very difficult, first of all there was no check-in counter, we checked in in the bar. Was directed to park our car in the front of the parking lot and it was free. Circled around for over a half an hour could not find access to the front of the building. Finally called again and was told the parking lot that we had originally been in was where we were supposed to park and we would be given a voucher for parking. This was extremely confusing, a very small parking lot, and very difficult to maneuver vehicle within the parking lot

Room was nice & modern. Good beers, food was classic pub grub. Only gave 4 stars because website said there was parking but it’s limited and only available after 11 when the pub carpark clears.

We used the hotel for our last night before flying out of Dublin. For this, it was ok. However, the room hasn't seen a vacuum cleaner for a bit, and in the folds of the chair were breadcrumbs.

The room was very clean and spacious. We stayed on a Monday and Tuesday night at the end of September and it was very quiet. Staff was very helpful and the breakfasts were great.

Loved the decor. Pub downstairs definitely popular with locals and prices for food and drinks very affordable. Within walking distance of two historical sites (12th century castle and church). Lots of little shops and pubs within easy walking distance. Quiet and quaint. Operating the lift up to our room was a challenge and climbing into the deep tub in our room would be a problem for anyone with mobility issues but all good otherwise.

Dirty hotel with poor service. Really disappointed. Hair in the bed and in the sink, and old toenails at the coffee table. Really bad.

We were initially very excited to stay at this hotel.. however, the pictures of the rooms and the one we got were entirely different. There wasn’t any stone feature wall in our room, there wasn’t even a window. The corners of the room and walls were extremely dusty where I had to wet a hand towel and wipe them down. I don’t think the room had been properly vacuumed in a while. At least the linens were clean and the washroom surfaces were decent. Overall, disappointed with the room at this hotel.

Everything was wonderful..clean, comfortable room..friendly staff. Great location and proximity to airport.

For a pub airport hotel it was good. Could have been cleaner. Lot of dust bunnies. AC filters dirty. THE WIFI was terrible.. Shouldn’t advertise free WIFI if it doesn’t work well

Large clean Room, very close to the Airport, walking distance to shops , bars snd restaurants

Very close to the airport (8-10 min). Hotel pub food was good (I really liked my pizza) and was easy to order online from the table or at the bar, then delivered hot to the table. Drinks were pretty inexpensive and coffee/tea/espresso in the morning was bottomless. Our room was very quiet. No window but a skylight that could open for a breeze and a shade that could be closed for darkness. The whole room looks like it had been recently updated and did have its own thermostat which was nice as we prefer cooler sleeping temps. Everything was clean. Parking out front was limited but we arrived early enough (2:30) so there were lots of spaces. Check in for the rooms is done at the bar. Overall, it was a quick night for us as we were heading for the airport early to return our rental but it was a good place to rest our weary bodies.

Stayed one night before flying home and it was okay but I would not stay again. The pub food and drinks were excellent and the prices for food very reasonable. Parking is almost non-existent and it is on a busy street. If we had not grabbed the last parking spot in front of the hotel my rating would be lower. Dragging suitcases through the pub to the tiny elevator not fun. Room was so small. No window just a skylight that opened. I would eat here again no problem but not stay.

The hotel is on top of a bar, but it was quiet. The room was quaint. No mini fridge though. And no air conditioner. It was a little warm. Had no windows, but did have a skylight.

It took a while to find the check-in. It turned out to be the bar. We left our bags there and came back later. The room had an odor and the wifi was down. Some nice staff gave us a new room which was fine. When I asked the manager the next morning to put "WIFI was down" on my receipt so I could apply for credits from Expedia, they were clearly not impressed with the request. We stayed in some sweet hotels in Dublin. This wasn't one of them.

Great location and very convenient being over a bar and restaurant. Our room was located next to the beer garden area so it was quite noisy until about 1am. We had a flight in the morning so location was good to get to the airport early

The room was great. It was roomy and had a lot of character. It was fairly quick and fun to check in with the bartender instead of waiting on a clerk in a stale reception area. Everyone we encountered was friendly and efficient. The only bad thing was the bedding. The room was slightly chilly, the way we like it, but there was only a comforter. It was fabulous, but after a while it got too warm and with not even a sheet, we were hot and cold all night. The area's numerous shops were busting with activity, and Swords Castle, a little gem in various stages of reconstruction, was just a few blocks away. There was a shockingly large shopping mall relatively camouflaged in the neighborhood just across the street. It was super quick to get to the pub from the airport and the taxi ride was cheap and friendly. Know that there are just a couple places where you have to traverse a couple stair treads with your luggage. We were traveling light, so it was no big deal. The old lift to get our bags up to the room was a hoot, the inviting stairs were quick and scenic overlooking the beer garden, the food and the ale were delicious and inexpensive, and overall it was a great place to stay on our layover to Rome!

Very quick check in, room is amazing. AC was perfect. Location is great, got into the city and back very easily as stop is right across the street. Would 100% stay here again.

Unfortunately there was no mention of a bar/nightclub that is part of the Inn in the description. There was very loud techno dance music until 2 in the morning. It was extremely loud. We could not sleep until after the bar/night club closed.

No window, AC wasn't working. Incredibly stuffy and hot overnight. No top sheet so had to choose between no blankets or a down comforter.

Mixed reviews regarding this hotel. Check in was smooth and early check in at two is great. Room is a nice size and modern enough. However there was a fake nail on the floor. Went for food and drinks in the pub downstairs. Food was nice and very reasonable prices. However at night the surround area is extremely noisy so keep that in mind. We were told during check in that check out was 12. This clearly wasn’t the case as he had someone pounding on our door at 11:15 asking us to hurry up. The housekeeping was quite rude here and we were planning on leaving anyway in the next few minutes. An 11am checkout would have been no problem however we were specifically told it was a 12 checkout. I explained this at the bar reception. There wasn’t any apologies about the confusion or anything. Left in quite a hurry after that.

I have stayed here many times for work. It's everything you expect from Wetherspoons, good value, good choice and good, clean rooms and friendly service.

Staff was extremely attentive and helpful!! Would highly recommend this property to anyone

We loved the “old” look and feel of this place…all of the wood and beautiful architecture. The check in process could definitely be improved. It’s not clear on arrival exactly where to go and it turns out that reception is just a closet area inside the bar/restaurant. Perhaps better signage would help. We found the bar staff to be quite unfriendly. No smiles or small talk. Quite cold, actually - as if we were bothering them. On the flip side, they have a fantastic food and bar menu and the prices were the best we saw during our two week trip through Ireland. Food was excellent! Oh and added bonus was the “lift” to our room. So cool. The room was tiny but suited our needs just fine. Bathroom was big, bright, and spotless. We chose this location due to its proximity to the airport and it made our travel day that much less stressful!

Room was nice, comfortable bed. The hotel is above a pub, while there is good sound proofing when people leave the pub at midnight they hung around for awhile after this making noise. Also it seems that there was some movement with the kegs at this time. Something to be mindful of, despite booking with a confirmed pay at the hotel local currency agreement via Expedia, I was charged in my currency prior to my arrival. This was inconvenient to me as I had money reserved in euros on a different card. I called the hotel initially and they advised this was a mistake and they could refund this on arrival, and I could pay at the hotel. When I arrived the woman was quite rude and advised they have started charging guests before they arrive as people were not showing up, and nothing could be done.

The rooms are very nice, but the set up is odd. You checkin for the hotel at the bar. I had to wait for quite awhile for someone to acknowledge me so i could check in. And when they mention limited parking, they mean it. There are about 6 parking spots jn front of of the hotel/pub and its a VERY big and very busy pub. Parking is basically not going to happen at the hotel. There is street parking but you can't park there all night. Having said that, the bed was very comfortable and our room was very quite.

What a pleasant surprise to stay at this property. Staff was friendly. Our room was very nice and also spacious. Parking was great right in front of the hotel. They had a nice pub inside with great prices and selection. We were also pleased with the close proximity to the airport for our flight the next day. I would definitely stay here again.

We felt like check in and dinner was very impersonal at Old Borough. When you check in it’s confusing that YOU need to track a staff member down. I ended up at the bar to check in. The young lady that checked me in was very nice and as helpful and she could be. We felt like we had the same experience when having dinner. You order with a QR code and have very little interaction with staff. The bar/restaurant was pretty busy, which we were there on a Friday night. Parking is a nightmare. There are very few parking spots - maybe 10 at best for the bar/restaurant and hotel. We were told to either park in a spot blocking someone in and move our car later that evening (when it thinned out) or park somewhere else. All in all the hotel was nice and clean. Staff were great.

Half hour drive from central Dublin. Very close to the airport.

Picked this place because of proximity to the airport. Last night in Ireland. Arrived around 4 pm. They had our room ready and even had the right request of handicap accessible room. Was a little worried based on previous reviews. Check in and out at the bar was easy. Close to shopping, the castle and other quick activities. Did eat here for dinner. Food was good and reasonable. Does seem to be a local hangout, probably of the good value on drinks and food. We got lucky with parking. Parking is free for hotel guests but first come first serve. Only about 8-10 spots. If you snag one keep it. The air conditioning was the best of all the hotels on our trip. If that is important to you then it was the best. Would stay again in the same circumstances.

Good place to stay if you need to be close to the airport.

Very quiet and clean rooms, bathroom has all the extras. You can't get a better location. Its right on the main street with lots of restaurants. Also across the street from a very nice mall that has lots of stores and dining options. We booked this as an alternative to the expensive airport hotels. Our taxi picked us up and had us at the airport in 7 minutes. Would stay here again.

Convenient before flying out of Dublin airport

Great access for transport especially the bus for the airport or to Dublin City centre.Plenty to do in Swords be it socialising or shopping.

Tge building had an old charm about it yet had very modern and clean facilities. The staff were very friendly. It was very convenient for getting transport into the city and for car rental drop off at the airport. Food and drink was very good and very reasonably priced.

Nice hotel great food and drinks

Very easy check in and friendly staff. Room was expensive but was very large and clean. Good thing about staying at a Wetherspoon is food and drink ordered at the bar and can be brought to the room. Hotel is opposite a bus stop which makes access to Dublin City centre easy

Food was horrendous. I got a steak and it was full of grizzle. I said it to the server and he just said apologies for that and he took it away. There was 3/4 of the steak left in the plate.

The proximity to the airport is great. The hotel itself is very charming. The check in process is a little strange. You check in at the bar. But when we arrived, a staff member was right at the door helping with luggage and getting us where we needed to go. He also single handedly carried all our luggage up to our room (no lift). The downsides; the food isn't great and the ordering process is strange. You can either order at the bar, or via their app. We were there on a Friday night and this bar appeared to be the hangout for the kids. This is probably due to the low cost food and pitchers of sweet cocktails. Unless it was prom night. I couldn't tell which. But it was loud and hot due to the amount of people in the bar. The food was not good and we ended up leaving most of it uneaten, and my beer was warm. But our servers (the people who brought our food) were very nice. We were told there was free coffee in the bar any time for overnight guests. That would have been true if both coffee machines would not have been broken. Luckily, the town is small and quaint and there are lots of coffee shops nearby. I would stay there again, and I would highly recommend it. It is an old building so it is a bit smelly in the hallways, but it was very nice and quiet. But I would recommend if you do stay here plan on eating someplace else. We ate at the School House and it was AMAZING! I wish we would have gone there for dinner.

You really must consider this property if you need somewhere close to the airport that is excellent value. Good size room, comfy bed, great bathroom and excellent beer and food options. A lot to like!

Well kept, fair pricing and great food for great pricing!

Great room with plenty of space, high ceilings and exposed brick, AC, and great modern bathroom fixtures. Check in at the busy bar was a little odd but went quickly once we found a free staff member. Noise from the pub didn't carry upstairs. The pub is good for a few inexpensive drinks. Good spot to spend one night before an early trip to the Dublin airport and at check in they arranged for a cab to pick us up and drive us to the airport the next morning.
