This beautiful Bastide is worth a visit and as it’s also small, staying at the L’Hotel de Cité was an oasis all in itself. I would go back just to stay at the hotel. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. Someone quickly appeared when we parked as it was unusually hot to pick us up and whisk us to the hotel without us even requesting it. I can’t tell you how grateful I am to this person as we had our small frenchie with us and they do not do well in the heat. The hotel is absolutely gorgeous with wonderful gardens and lounge areas. The spa looked nice (will need to book that next time too) and the onsite restaurant was a nice added perk although you can walk the entire village quite easily with many options for food. The boulangerie right next door has the best ever chocolatines (also worth going back for). I would highly recommend a stay here.

We couldn't find a taxi once we arrived at the train station,but one phone call to the hotel and the reception staff sent us a chauffeur within minutes. The hotel is absolutely stunning! The garden and pool area are a must. The room was spacious and had a beautiful view of the garden. Breakfast had a great selection. There are many dining options near by as well as shopping. The basilica is next door and the Castle Comtal just a few feet away. The only regret I have is only staying one night...

Very good location, all staff are helpful and friendly. Room is clean and nice . I left a handbag on the chair in the bar, they help me to keep the bag and try to return to me. Th e car park is not in the hotel , you have to park the car in their parking lot, and call them come to take yr luggage and you walk 2 mins to the hotel.

What a gem. All the history, amazing location and a gorgeous little pool while staying in the old town, was a truly unique experience. Make sure you check out the display in the lounge of all the previous guests, including Churchill and Buster Keaton.

The medieval city of Carcossonne is amazing, like stepping back in time, and staying at the Hotel De La Cite just contributes to this feeling (although only build in 1880's). A grand, imposing building directly opposite the Basilicca puts it at the heart of the old city. Excellent service, lovely comfortable rooms and a garden that is great for relaxing in the afternoon sun.

Such a unique property and location. You have to park outside the castle walls in the designated hotel parking and then you can walk 5 mins or get a lift up to the hotel. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The room was spacious, but the steps could use a bit of repairs. I was worried it would be noisy since we were on the ground level by reception and the outdoor bar, but we didn’t hear a thing.

Very special place right in the heart of the medieval city. The Hotel is old and has plenty of character but still spotlessly clean. Lots of steps as would expect from a property of this age, but you would choose to stay here for the character and location! Greeted straight away on arrival and told we had been given a room upgrade which was nice. Our room was good size with a private terrace leading into the garden and a great view over the ramparts to The Bastide below. The staff were friendly and helpful, gave us a little tour of the hotel when we arrived. La Barbacane restaurant had an amazing menu and first class service. Nice pool area and outside garden, too windy when we visited in mid September to use the pool but sure it would be fine. For info, if you take a taxi from the airport as we did the hotel has a dedicated drop off area just outside the walls - no cars in the medieval city. Staff bring up your luggage and its a 3-4 minute walk up 2 flights of steps across each wall of the castle et voila you are in the medieval city right by the Basilica and the hotel is in front of you. Would stay again. Merci beaucoup to the staff.

What a fantastic hotel! It's beautiful, the gardens and pool are lovely and all the staff were friendly and helpful. Room was large and airy, and the bed was very comfortable. Fantastic shower. Despite being next to the Basilica no noise got into the room, even when the bells rang! The food in La Barbacane was delicious. Excellent location, great as a base to explore Carcassonne on foot.

We were biking the canal from Sète. This was an amazing property. Even if you can’t get a reservation stop on for a drink on the terrace or the bar.

This place is top notch. We regret not having dined there but the pool area and breakfast areas are stunning and the staff from David who brings you to the hotel from the parking to Patricia at front desk and the rest of the staff it’s just splendid. 5 stars well earned. I will be back.

For a 5 star hotel , the room was very outdated with a shower inside a tub which was awkward to stay in and a shower movable glass barrier that didn’t prevent spraying water into the floor Area around toilet was stained dark Bed was wonderful and room spacious but the plethora of carpeting gives an impression of not being totally clean The breakfast was good but not close to what we have experienced in other 5 star hotels The restaurant Le Barbacane was extremely overpriced for what it proposes although dessert was devine. I would say that this hotel merits a 4 and not a 5 star but the staf was the difference in making every effort to make our stay a nice one

It's a beautiful hotel, but slightly dated (which is to be expected). What isn't ok is the disrepair of floor tiles around the toilets (marble, browned by effluence isn't good) and sink holes with staines. Our stay was further marred by a fire alarm which was handled very badly. No staff monitoring or stewarding the entrance, which is deeply unsafe. When this was raised, the night manager found it funny and one of the chefs thought it sensible to make faces at us about it. The day manager the next day was apologetic and comped our bar bill, to his credit, but I won't be returning to what is an unsafely run property.

Property is beautiful. Service and amenities not what I would expect from this quality hotel. Empty soap dispenser in shower. Waited over half an hour for a drink at the bar. Breakfast buffet ran out of items with an hour left to go and no restocking. Tissue from previous guest on floor of our room.

Lovely hotel in excellent location within the walled city. Our room had a unbelievably beautiful view. Beds were a little firm for my friend and I; however, we just stayed one night, so that was no big deal. Priced a little high for what they offered. Sewage odors in room, no full-length mirror. I take tub baths; soap and shampoo were mounted for showers, so every time I needed soap I had to stand up. Double vanity sinks; but soap dispenser was only on one side, so person using farthest sink dripped all across vanity.

This hotel was phenomenal. I am well traveled, and found this to be exceptional. I was upgraded to one of the suites, where I had one of the largest balconies one could ever expect from a hotel overlooking the southwest of France. I also had another balcony in the sitting room. The staff was really friendly and helpful. One tip – you cannot really drive to this hotel. It’s hard to find, and you have to park a bit away in the parking lot and track up the hill into the walled city. .

Loved our stay at this hotel! It was a former bishops palace right next to the cathedral and right by the rampart walls. Absolutely beautiful location. We had a room in the building across the way. Large room with view of the church. Very quiet though! Super comfortable bed. We had dinner there on the terrace and it was so good with a great view! Only issue was that our shower wouldn’t drain. Other than that it was perfect!

I would say that this hotel merits a 4 and not a 5 star but the staf was the difference in making every effort to make our stay a nice one

Staying in a castle was a wow experience. That said, the deluxe king room was so cramped that we had to upgrade to a suite to accommodate the luggage, so don't arrive with more than a toothbrush! We arrived by rental car, and given that there is no driving within the Cite walls, locating the hotel parking and free shuttle was a bit of a challenge, especially since both ends of the access road are marked "do not enter." But once ensconced, the hotel grounds were fabulous, the service was good (provided we spoke French), and the location within the castle walls was incomparable. The cooking at the one-star Michelin-rated restaurant was superb (what a dinner!), although the waiters behaved like scared rabbits and at times seemed a bit confused, which detracted from the experience. The next morning at breakfast, I had to call into the kitchen to beg for coffee as no service personnel was present for over 15 minutes (and this at 8 am). BUT the breakfast spread was lovely, abundant, and very tasty, so all was right with the world. All in all, a remarkable experience.

Lovely old hotel. With old comes one downside. Very difficult to control the heat! It was sweltering in the room even set at 15, so we left the windows open. That's the only downside. It was a great stay in a very unique location.

The hotel itself is in an amazing old building, and the room was very nice - with a shower, a separate full-size shower, a separate WC, and a dual sink. The only disappointment was the bed, which we did not find particularly comfortable. Otherwise, everything was excellent. The medieval city of Carcassonne is tiny - you can walk from one end of it to another in 5 minutes, but this hotel is away from the noise of the low-end restaurants . . . and it contains its own amazing restaurant, Le Barbacane. We recommend trying that restaurant. We visited the city in February, for Valentines. It turns out that quite a few shows and restaurants are closed because it is the low season. That means that there are fewer people, but it is a trade-off to consider.

Lovely hotel in excellent location within the walled city. Our room had a unbelievably beautiful view. Beds were a little firm for my friend and I; however, we just stayed one night, so that was no big deal. Priced a little high for what they offered. Sewage odors in room, no full-length mirror. I take tub baths; soap and shampoo were mounted for showers, so every time I needed soap I had to stand up. Double vanity sinks; but soap dispenser was only on one side, so person using farthest sink dripped all across vanity.

Had wonderful room with large terrace and great views. Electrics and plumbing need updating. Electical sockets at ground level which meant crawling around to get at socket behind table. No information about room service displayed so had to ask at reception to arrange breakfast in our room on our last day.

What a fantastic hotel! It's beautiful, the gardens and pool are lovely and all the staff were friendly and helpful. Room was large and airy, and the bed was very comfortable. Fantastic shower. Despite being next to the Basilica no noise got into the room, even when the bells rang! The food in La Barbacane was delicious. Excellent location, great as a base to explore Carcassonne on foot.

This is an excellent hotel in a great location. Staff was friendly and helpful. We booked a Junior Suite. Although not really a suite (just a large room) the room was well done with a large balcony. I have a couple of reasons for taking off a star. First, I could hear the people in the room above walking and the room next door talking. This is a pet-peeve as when I want to sleep, I need quiet and not muffled conversation and laughter in the room next door. Second is the balcony smoking policy. Along with being up late talking, they also sat on the balcony and smoked which blew directly into our balcony and room if the window was open. This meant that unless I wanted to sit and smell smoke, the balcony was useless to me. I understand that I'm not the only guest, I just shouldn't be able to hear or smell the others when in my room.

I enjoyed the vegetarian tasting menu in the Michelin restaurant- the service and food were exceptional - sad to leave but I will definitely return in 2026. Merci beaucoup x

It's a beautiful hotel, but slightly dated (which is to be expected). What isn't ok is the disrepair of floor tiles around the toilets (marble, browned by effluence isn't good) and sink holes with staines. Our stay was further marred by a fire alarm which was handled very badly. No staff monitoring or stewarding the entrance, which is deeply unsafe. When this was raised, the night manager found it funny and one of the chefs thought it sensible to make faces at us about it. The day manager the next day was apologetic and comped our bar bill, to his credit, but I won't be returning to what is an unsafely run property.

Fabulous! Before we can even begin to compliment the hotel, the location, the staff and the service we must compliment Jerome who helped us navigate getting in and out of the old cite and again to the train station with massive luggage! We had just completed a 7 day tour on the Canal du Midi with 7 friends. It was such a pleasure to stay at the hotel for the night for a good rest and beautiful view before we begin our voyage back to the US. Jerome is a tour guide, historian, athletic guy with a wonderful sense of humor, he truly made our stay magical! We will be back again someday! Inga & Murray Reynolds, Temecula California

I am sorry to say that Hotel de la Cite under MGallery management was sub-standard. Transportation to the hotel from train station at 10:34 pm AS PROMISED by hotel staff was NON-EXISTENT. We arrived after 11 pm after lugging our suitcases thru the streets of Carcassonne since NO ONE CAME TO PICK US UP. The couple in front of us at train station were equally incensed. I called the hotel 3 times then texted. Each time I got an extended voicemail menu that never led me to a live human being. UNACCEPTABLE SERVICE. We were then shown to two NON-air conditioned rooms. I asked for different rooms. We were shown to two new rooms which were very nice, but required going up and down stairs then up to a castle turret. My husband and I went down to front desk to ask to borrow an adapter and both got lost trying to find an elevator to take us to ground floor. We ended up in a deserted conference area of hotel. Finally found an exit door, went out on the street at 1 am and re-entered the hotel thru front entrance. Got our adapter and asked about breakfast. Were told that Expedia customers don't get breakfast included with their rooms. In 2012 we did, as well as a beautiful welcoming gift waiting in our room from hotel management. NOT THIS TIME. The hotel management knew that we were VIP Silver Expedia customers. Nothing awaited us, not even a box of macarons for the children. Terrible service, in no way the 5-star hotel it was in 2012.

Very good location, all staff are helpful and friendly. Room is clean and nice . I left a handbag on the chair in the bar, they help me to keep the bag and try to return to me. Th e car park is not in the hotel , you have to park the car in their parking lot, and call them come to take yr luggage and you walk 2 mins to the hotel.

This hotel was a fabulous stay, my only hesitation to not give 5 stars is that when I checked in I put my personal items int the safe, locked it and left to go explore. When I came back a staff member had been in my room to prep for bed (turn the covers and add a chocolate)…but the safe was open! Nothing seemed to be missing but it left a pit in my stomachs. When I brought it up to the front desk, they said our staff is trustworthy and didn’t see why I was alarmed. This was not what I expected, I felt rattled, especially because I am traveling alone from the us and had my passport and other important documents in there. Other than this it was a wonderful stay and really enjoyed the amazing dinner I had at the on site restaurant that evening. The restaurant staff were wonderful and treated me amazing even the ouch I speak almost no French:)

This place is top notch. We regret not having dined there but the pool area and breakfast areas are stunning and the staff from David who brings you to the hotel from the parking to Patricia at front desk and the rest of the staff it’s just splendid. 5 stars well earned. I will be back.

This hotel was phenomenal. I am well traveled, and found this to be exceptional. I was upgraded to one of the suites, where I had one of the largest balconies one could ever expect from a hotel overlooking the southwest of France. I also had another balcony in the sitting room. The staff was really friendly and helpful. One tip – you cannot really drive to this hotel. It’s hard to find, and you have to park a bit away in the parking lot and track up the hill into the walled city. .

A beautiful hotel set within the castle walls. Great rooms, service and food. The only point to note would be as its a very old building some of the showers are not great for tall people, however well worth the stay. A really special spot.

This hotel is so incredibly picturesque - breath taking! Staff available, friendly, very helpful. Hotel has AC, but rooms not individually controlled & bit warm by US standards. Beds comfortable, food delicious. Surrounding town great to explore!

The medieval city of Carcossonne is amazing, like stepping back in time, and staying at the Hotel De La Cite just contributes to this feeling (although only build in 1880's). A grand, imposing building directly opposite the Basilicca puts it at the heart of the old city. Excellent service, lovely comfortable rooms and a garden that is great for relaxing in the afternoon sun.

Very special place right in the heart of the medieval city. The Hotel is old and has plenty of character but still spotlessly clean. Lots of steps as would expect from a property of this age, but you would choose to stay here for the character and location! Greeted straight away on arrival and told we had been given a room upgrade which was nice. Our room was good size with a private terrace leading into the garden and a great view over the ramparts to The Bastide below. The staff were friendly and helpful, gave us a little tour of the hotel when we arrived. La Barbacane restaurant had an amazing menu and first class service. Nice pool area and outside garden, too windy when we visited in mid September to use the pool but sure it would be fine. For info, if you take a taxi from the airport as we did the hotel has a dedicated drop off area just outside the walls - no cars in the medieval city. Staff bring up your luggage and its a 3-4 minute walk up 2 flights of steps across each wall of the castle et voila you are in the medieval city right by the Basilica and the hotel is in front of you. Would stay again. Merci beaucoup to the staff.

I would say that this hotel merits a 4 and not a 5 star but the staf was the difference in making every effort to make our stay a nice one
For a 5 star hotel , the room was very outdated with a shower inside a tub which was awkward to stay in and a shower movable glass barrier that didn’t prevent spraying water into the floor Area around toilet was stained dark Bed was wonderful and room spacious but the plethora of carpeting gives an impression of not being totally clean The breakfast was good but not close to what we have experienced in other 5 star hotels The restaurant Le Barbacane was extremely overpriced for what it proposes although dessert was devine. Property is beautiful. Service and amenities not what I would expect from this quality hotel. Empty soap dispenser in shower. Waited over half an hour for a drink at the bar. Breakfast buffet ran out of items with an hour left to go and no restocking. Tissue from previous guest on floor of our room.

We truly loved everything about our stay. The staff were top notch and very kind. History and beauty surround you without needing to leave the hotel, although I suggest you do! We were fortunate to have dinner at their Michelin Star (1) restaurant. A must for foodies.

An absolutely gorgeous hotel that is in an excellent location and with beautiful gardens right on the walls of the city. It is like an oasis and we had a fantastic time! The restaurant is also excellent, especially great value is the lunch set menu.

This is a phenomenal hotel and everything about it is five star. The staff go out of the way to make sure you have everything you need and nothing is too much for them. We ate at the Michelin starred restaurant and had the tasting menu which was fantastic. The staff went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable the next day and had a great experience. Highly recommend.

Lovely 4 nights. The room could have used a deep clean, the phone did not work properly in the room. We requested fresh towels as our room had not been cleaned and waited over an hour for them! I think the food/breakfast is too expensive for what you get. Due to these reasons I feel it is a bit overpriced. The pool area was lovely. The surroundings are fabulous and central location is perfect!

What a fantastic hotel! It's beautiful, the gardens and pool are lovely and all the staff were friendly and helpful. Room was large and airy, and the bed was very comfortable. Fantastic shower. Despite being next to the Basilica no noise got into the room, even when the bells rang! The food in La Barbacane was delicious. Excellent location, great as a base to explore Carcassonne on foot.

The hotel was ok but very much overpriced for what it provided. The snacks were very expensive and the rooms needed maintenance. The lack of decent lighting in the bathrooms was disappointing as was the air con. It was either hot or very cold.

My wife and I stayed for 5 nights and we had a wonderful experience. The hotel and pool were a great place to return to after a day of sight-seeing and I must make a special mention for the staff as everyone we met was exceptionally helpful.
