Clean room, comfy beds, only downside is our room was above the lobby. Staff vacuuming at 4am and cleaning in lobby area woke us 2 mornings. Breakfast options were great, nice touch to get served your breakfast at a table. Area around hotel made us a bit nervous, parking in back lot. A bar and liquor store is attached. No issues with parking though. Staff was pleasant and helpful. No elevator to 2nd floor but there was staff to take our bags to the room. Easy access to main roads. Restaurants nearby.

Second stay in 2 weeks. The "first floor" rooms are motel style with access from the parking lot. The "second floor" rooms are a more traditional hotel room. Clean, decent rooms. Great value. Breakfast is second to none as far as hotel breakfasts go. Order from a menu and they make it fresh.

The free breakfast was exceptional with several options made specifically for each of us. The staff is also exceptionally polite and courteous. Its just the location of the motel, parking area by a bar that gives a feeling of not safe. The motel is older but clean and no elevator to the 2nd floor.

Check in gentleman was nice Hotel has recently been renovated I believe, but it shows it wear and tear. Parking spot is right outside my room One of the beds had a stain on the bed sheet, I used the other bed as it was just me staying here. Telephone was extremally dirty, shower does not drain properly, pictures if needed available.

Not Suitable for Business Travelers... Very below par. Initially I was put in the motel part of this hotel (yes there are two separate buildings, a motel from the 70s and a slightly newer hotel). The motel was terrible, it had a very odd smell and was not cleaned well. Hairs all over the bathroom, the towels smelled like cigarettes. The worst part though was the noise. These are conjoined rooms so there is a door between you and the room next door. This was so thin you could clearly hear everything happening in the room next door. My neighbour was conversing at a normal volume but unfortunately for me, this kept me up well past midnight. The next morning I complained and was moved into the hotel part. This was still well below par, the room was dirty, there were stains on the pillow cases and either squished bugs or boogers directly on the mattress. The air conditioner was extremely old, very loud and rattled constantly so I had to choose between a hot room or quiet room. Overall, I personally would never stay in this hotel again and would recommend travelers to avoid it at all costs.

Both times I stayed in the ground floor rooms. The rooms wereclean and quiet but overall not quite as nice as the upstairs rooms. The beds in particular are not as good. However, the ground floor rooms are pet friendly and because I travel with my dog it’s more important to me to have a clean pet friendly room. Also please note there is NO “doggy” smell!! The staff are always friendly, professional and helpful with whatever requests you have, and they will try to accommodate.

Room had 2 beds. One was slaughtered in a brown substance which looked fresh not a stain so me and my son shared the other bed. There is a night club either in the building or attached and we got in to the city at 1230 and had to be up for 8am. I could here the words to every song through the paper thin walls. Could not sleep until 2am after the bar closed. Also the coffee maker in the room was broken. Will not stay here again

In for a friends trip. Construction to be desired. Not hotels fault. Liked the breakfast set up. Order from a contention menu. Go down or order up. Room was dark n dingy. Squished beds in space. Not much room to move around. Bathroom was mood lighting I guess good for that but not seeing in mirror. No elevator for carrying heavy suitcases/shopping. Ice machine not working. This is a tired hotel, we were in the motel section. The room was clean but very worn. The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was great. I was a bit disappointed at what we got for the price hotel wise but we arrived the weekend of Grey Cup so there weren't many affordable options.

I already submitted a complaint. Extremely noisy neighbours kept us awake every night for 3 nights. Made us very tired & cranky all day. We called the front desk at 3 am who sent a young timid meek female who did nothing. Not sure how you control that. You’ve lost a good customer in the future!

Our stays at Howard Johnson on Portage Avenue in Winnipeg have always been very good. The staff are very friendly and ready to help whenever needed. We have been staying there every month for about a year and a half now. We have never been disappointed in our decision to stay there. The hotel is clean, has free off street parking, ground floor units are available, free wi-fi, cable tv and internet. The free breakfast available from the menu is a welcome bonus. They offer a discounted rate for patrons attending medical appointments while staying there. There is a mini mall across the street and a bar/restaurant attached that is convenient. There is a large mall within a short walk from the hotel. Polo Park mall and a movie theatre are within a 15 minute drive. Just an overall great place to stay.

It was unfortunate that there was no elevator for my injured family member to get to the second floor where our room was. The sports bar next door had a lot of action at closing time and popping out to my vehicle was a bit disconcerting. The rest of the hotel was lovely and the staff was awesome. Breakfast was tasty and a nice way to start our day.
