Reasonably well appointed hotel, close to O R Tambo international airport. Rooms were clean. There were no napkins in the room on day 1, but were provided from day 2 onwards. The breakfast has a wide range of food on offer and is buffet style. The bar is open 24 hours. There is a gym and swimming pool on the property. The best part is that the hotel operates a free shuttle to the airport every 15 minutes, 24 hours a day.

Very service minded staff The breakfast was so good and the pool area was very nice. To make it all fit with check in at our next hotel the gave us an extra hour until check out and booked a driver to take us to our next hotel. It is not the last time, that we will book at this hotel

It was safe, clean and offered a great breakfast. The pool area was clean and relaxing. Staff were polite and efficient. The rooms need updating. I suggest painting a lighter colour.

Great overnight stay close to the airport. Airport shuttle leaves on time. SUPER SLOW service at the bar. I ordered chicken wings and chips which took 2 hours. Perhaps room service would have been better.

The room hygiene wasn’t up to par and the the view from the window exposed heaps of dust that has accumulated overtime on the seals and went uncleaned. We had to wait over 30 minutes in the dining to get a menu and we had to share one. After a long wait we had our lunch which was exceptionally tasty and good. They need to bring up their game to regain their old reputation

We had an 8 hour flight and decided to make a booking at this hotel to sleep over as we have a connecting flight to following day. We booked 2 rooms in advance(4 adults and 1 child 2 years old). We checked in around 10:30 - PM and noticed both rooms were very dirty. The bathrooms in both rooms we dirty and looks like it hasn't been cleaned in a while so we decided to use our sandles/flipflops when showing. We only stayed 1 night because our connecting flight was the following day. After seeing the rooms we dared not taking a chance with the food and decided to book out earlier and eat at the airport. I honestly would not recommend this hotel.

The room had a stale odor, the air conditioner bareley worked so the room was uncomfortably warm most of the night, the pillows are little more than bags of air that offer no comfort or support. However, the dinner was excellent! Overall, my stay was average.

The property is definitely dated. Our room was on the main floor and the furniture was chipped and worn out. The carpet felt like it wasn’t vacuumed and the bathroom was minimally cleaned (there was a bug in the bathroom for two days - it sounds silly but I don’t know how else to say it). Check-in was smooth and the bellmen were polite and efficient. Basically, the staff is efficient but the hotel itself could be cleaner and could use a face-lift.

Absolutely Horrible stay, its dated and the sheets where filthy. My room smelled like dust and smoke and it triggered a sinus inflection. The front desk staffer was rude when i told him my room key was not working went to lecture me about not putting my hotel key next to my phone when the phone was in the room. Horrible experience visited this hotel 10 years and it was perfect will never ever come to this place, and the unfriendly smells from many of the guest relations people. Do Better.

It's obviously an older hotel, but does the job just fine for just before or after landing at OR TAMBO. Some of the rooms don't have a mini fridge, and none of the rooms I stayed in had a microwave. The drains in the shower and sinks could use a good bit of work. The beds and linens are comfortable and the blackout shades work well. The food at the buffet isn't great, but not terrible either. Is it the nicest hotel I've ever stayed in? Definitely not. Would I stay again? Probably.

Foi a terceira vez que fiquei neste hotel e a experiência foi a mesma da primeira, ou seja, muito boa, pois atenderam meu pedido para me colocar no quarto com banheiro de box e nao de banheira. Alem disso, repetiu-se a ótima experiência com o café da manhã delicioso, a boa estrutura de forma geral e a localização conveniente ao lado do aeroporto com serviço de shuttle pontual e eficiente. Apenas acho que deve melhorar o wifi nao pega tao bem no quarto. Os atendentes do bar devem ser mais treinados para serem mais rápidos e simpáticos.

Hotel look nice from outside and in reception but room and corridor looked dated. Dinner Thai chicken curry was poor, not spiced and came with Indian poppadom and pickle tray, not good. Ravioli was drowned in a gloopy mushroom sauce. Breakfast buffet was ok, fairly standard not exceptional in any way. Room beds were comfortable and shower was good. Hotel was cold as was Joburg but there is a heater. Overall ok for a one night stay and airport shuttle is efficient.

Very convenient - look for the InterCon hotel and then go to the back to find the shuttle. The staff are very kind and respectful. Buffet breakfast was decent. Room was a bit dated but everything worked fine. Can't go anywhere on foot, even back to the airport. Good place for an overnight stay.

Walls were thin so you can hear others. It’s decent for a nights stay near airport but I wouldn’t choose this hotel for a longer stay. AC is very minimal so room got warm quickly.

I arrived after a very early flight at about 9:00 AM hoping to lock up my luggage while I went touring. Instead at no extra charge they checked me into my room. They also lent me an adapter for South Africa’s unique electric outlet so I could use my CPAP machine that night. Everyone was so nice!

This was my second time to stay at Southern Sun and I will return. It is my favorite place by the airport. The shuttle runs 24/7. Every person who works there from the shuttle driver, receptionist, restaurant servers, greeters, cooks, bell boys, everyone is so kind, helpful, and considerate. We were delayed from the US onDelta airlines. We were suppose to be in on Thursday evening at 7. I called the hotel and talked to the manager. The rooms were paid for. It was 8 rooms in my booking. It was less than 24 hours expected arrival time so the changing room option was expired. I told them we were delayed and they worked with me to keep us from losing our rooms. We were delayed again and again until we were not arriving until well over 24 hrs. They helped again with giving the rooms for just the difference in price of a weekend night and a week night. The food in the restaurant is also very tasty. Very easy access from the airpirt. Thank you all for a very pleasant stay. I will stay again.

Southern Sun O.R. Tambo International Airport Is an good hotel for travelers arriving or departing from JNB and need a night’s stay. The hotel has 24/7 free shuttle service running from the bus station behind the Intercontinental Hotel just across the street from the arrivals terminal. The hotel is reasonably priced. It has great staff at reception (special call-out to Marvin) and generally good service all around (restaurants at peak times are a different matter…more staff would be helpful). The rooms are large and clean but the interior is getting old. In my room this time, the curtains got stuck. Previously, the toilet seat would not stay up, etc. Bathroom in general could do with upgrade/freshening up. For a night’s stay, these are minor inconveniences. Probably the biggest problem is lack of good lighting in the rooms and especially the bathrooms. This makes shaving difficult. Please consider using led lights that can be much brighter and are also very low wattage so won’t run up the electricity bill.

The check in process was very poor. Staff very slow and not attentive. There was a large convention and they simply couldn’t cope with it. Took a long time to check in. The line up was very long. The hotel is very convenient for the airport. Completely messed up my evening dinner.

Southern Sun O.R. Tambo is a good place to stay overnight while waiting for flights. The shuttle bus service is excellent and easy to access, while the hotel itself is in good condition. The staff are all friendly and welcoming and they were happy to offer a late check-out and luggage storage service.

This is a very convenient airport hotel but has nothing within walking distance so the superb shuttle every 15 minutes back to the airport is a must. Other facilities nearby require the use of Uber and this is very cheap and easy. Whilst breakfast is included it can be very over crowded and noisy so you need to pick your time.

The restaurant is absolutely outstanding for the excellent breakfast and dinner buffet selections with a huge variety of options. Very close to the airport with an easy and frequent shuttle, but the maze of roads around the airport makes walking too complicated.
