We were totally wowed by our experience at the Russell. From the beautiful church building it's in to the cool and colorful design in every room and common space to the handy luggage lockers that allowed us to store our bags there before and after our stay and the lovely neighborhood, which turned out to be our favorite in Nashville, everything was a win. Though we never saw any staff, we got all we needed via email and they responded to our questions quickly. And their donation of part of the proceeds of every stay to local homeless agencies was an unexpected bonus. The Russell is a great value for the price and a great place to stay. We look forward to staying there again.

Everything worked--the key code, the dumbwaiter (for the luggage). Room was as advertised with all needed service & equipment. East Nashville neighborhood is much less frenzied than Broadway, which is only a $10 Uber ride.

I love the fact that this hotel helps the homeless. It is a very unique hotel. Very pretty. Our third floor sky light room was cute, a little tight but still very nice. Wish I would have known there was no elevator and that we were on the third floor, I would have requested a ground or second floor room. It was nice, however, that they do have an elevator for your luggage. That helped! Also the complimentary champagne and snacks and water were a very nice touch!

An absolute fabulous stay! The building is easy to access & parking is impeccable. There is a luggage lift for 2nd floor rooms & the first floor rooms, where I stayed, were all quiet & well maintained. My room, a deluxe king, had picturesque garden view & very comfortable bedding. The shower was clean & well designed. Looking forward to my next visit.

If we ever have plans to return to Basement East for a concert, we will definitely stay at The Russell. We choose it because it's only a 2 minute walk to the venue. Our room was a bit on the quirky side in terms of decor and layout, but we like that. And, although this is a contactless hotel, we felt well cared for during our visit. We received texts to make sure we had everything we needed, and we had water, snacks, and a bottle of sparkling waiting for us in the room. The hotel has a nice ice machine that also dispenses water and ice water. Plus they provide free parking right across the street! All in all a very pleasant stay.

Amazing, very unique hotel. Although you don’t have reception, everything is done online and through the phone. Lots of welcoming and supporting messages were received prior to and through out the stay. Very convenient no key system. Clean room, comfortable bed, very quite, champaign and snacks were nice touches:) I must mention that coffee downstairs was incredible ! 5 star quality! Definitely a must stay!!!!

This is the cutest place! Check in was the easiest process and everything you could possibly need is on site or in the room. I love love love that they do outreach in the community with some of the proceeds which made me choose this place. Everything is decorated so perfectly and fun and everything was super clean!! Only one note-If you cannot do stairs, make sure your room is on the first floor. There are no elevators. We knew this so it wasn't a problem for us.

This hotel was converted from a church so you can see a lot of its past in the design/architecture. The stained glass windows in the lobby are beautiful. Modern and spacious, each room is different in size and color/design. Not far from downtown Nash and in a good neighborhood with food options.

The Russell is a super short walk to The Basement East where we saw some music so this was terrifically convenient for us. The church is beautiful and our room, albeit quite small and snug, was quiet. We will stay again when/if we are ever back in the area.

The Russell is an exquisitely adorned church transformed into an absolutely lovely hotel. No concierge on site, with easy online check-in. Wonderful treat basket and champagne complimentary in the room. Our room had queen sized bunk beds which was perfect for my son and I. A Dyson hair dryer in the bathroom!! Excellent stop on our adventure. Highly recommend.

I love the fact that this hotel helps the homeless. It is a very unique hotel. Very pretty. Our third floor sky light room was cute, a little tight but still very nice. Wish I would have known there was no elevator and that we were on the third floor, I would have requested a ground or second floor room. It was nice, however, that they do have an elevator for your luggage. That helped! Also the complimentary champagne and snacks and water were a very nice touch!

Easily the best shampoo conditioner and body wash of any hotel I’ve ever stayed at. Very unique hotel and awesome location/ dining options. If you have a bad meal in this area, your taster is off. I think the only drawback was that they allowed kids. I’m a family person, but this hotel shouldn’t allow small children. The walls were paper thin and you could hear kids running up and down the halls/ playing with the luggage elevator

It is really close to downtown Nashville without being IN downtown Nashville, so easy access to the interstate and to downtown. Downtown is not really walking distance, though, so you'll need to drive into downtown Nashville and pay for parking, which is $$$. There really is no staff at The Russell. No concierge, no continental breakfast, etc. Since there are plenty of restaurants nearby, it's not that big of a deal, but just keep that in mind. The bed was pretty comfortable, especially compared to the "boards with a blanket" beds of the normal hotel chains. I stayed in room 1:6, and I found that there isn't enough counter space to put things. They should add a table inside the door or something like that.

The Russell was a church that has been converted into a hotel. There is no staff on site and check-in and out is done by text/email. That being said, it was effortless checking in and out. There is no elevator but there is a dumb waiter for your luggage. Great care has been taken to make sure your visit is awesome. The hotel is not downtown, but about 2 miles away from the Country Music Hall of Fame. We chose to Uber and it was less than $8….. parking downtown was more expensive than that. A large portion of your bill goes to help others. If I’m ever in Nashville again; I’ll definitely stay here again!!

Everything is so simple and clean and lovely. The customer service was very impressive as they were just a text away or a phone call if you needed. The free bottle of wine was a really sweet touch and they have water in the room and a few treats as well. There is a TV in a refrigerator very small but it worked for me and there is a very roomy shower. Highly recommend the Russell. This is my second trip out to the Russell.

Wonderful experience and I would go back for sure! The check in was easy, as in nothing to do! Just use the codes they give you! Complimentary snacks and water in the room. The hotel is nice and has stained glass windows that are beautiful. 10/10. Can’t wait to go back when I’m in Nashville again.

I will say it was a unique experience with no front desk. We only spent one night there but only saw one other person. Was like we had the place all to ourselves, which was great. Got text messages about everything and had no issues with getting into the building or our room. The room itself was amazing. My wife was on crutches after a surgery and needed to be on the first floor and we loved the room. She had no problems getting in and out of the building with the ADA ramp and it was just an amazing experience. Will definitely stay there again the next time we are in Nashville.

The minute we pulled in we loved the area around Russell. The parking lot was so close and never full so we could easily come and go. There were bars, coffee shops, restaurants and shopping all within 10 minutes of walking. We ended up staying in East Nashville more than downtown with how nice the area was. The hotel was clean and quiet. The rooms were nice sized and the beds were amazing. We will be back!

Very cool experience! Chuch turned into a boutique hotel. Loved it! When I first exited the interstate and approached the area, I was a little hesitant. Wasn’t sure it was such a safe area. But the area surrounding the hotel was very nice. The parking lot across the street was well lit. Cameras in place too. Traveling alone on this trip, I felt safe bringing my luggage across the street. Once inside, the layout and decor is very cool. My room was spacious. Loved the use of the church pew and stained glass windows. There were so many extras that made the stay even better. Also ideal… I had dinner at the butcher and bee, which is right down the street. It was a good stay!

This was a nice stay, beautiful and interesting building. We never saw or heard any other people during our stay. Our room had a skylight to a skylight. There was a window in the ceiling of our room that opened up to the larger room where you could see out of the roof skylight. A little odd, but otherwise there would have been zero windows or natural light in the room. There was a remote control where it could be closed as well. Seems overall like a nice area, but our Lyft driver told us someone had recently been mugged nearby. We never felt unsafe, but it's good to keep in mind. There is parking across the street that we utilized with no issues. Fairly close to a lot of restaurants and bars, but I didn't want to walk it at night. Comfortable bed! Enjoyable stay for an overnight.

Unique and fun place to stay. Very close to Nashville nightlife but away from the noise of the downtown. Had a great night’s sleep in this quiet neighbourhood. Parking was really easy. Would definitely stay again.

The Russell is a great, unique, fun hotel that doesn't skimp on comfort or amenities. The staff were attentive and helpful before and during our stay. We appreciated a surprise complimentary anniversary gift when we got to our room. The bedding was comfortable, the shower had great pressure, and the whole hotel was very clean and comfortable. It's centrally located in East Nashville to be able to walk to a lot of locations. We rented a car but would have been able to do without. Overall would recommend, and i hope we get to come back and enjoy it again.
