After 24 hours solid travelling the Terraces was a welcoming sanctuary for us to recover on the first night and thereafter a well located base for our visit to George Town. The hotel only provides rooms which is no problem with so many good eating places around. Everything was very good quality and well maintained. The artwork in the lobby was fun. All in all, a very enjoyable stay.

1st time staying at this hotel. Strictly check-in time at 3pm. Aircon in the room No16 not cold. Parking space available for 9 car only. Walking distance about 300m to Komtar/Plaza Perangin & 1st Avenue. About 700m walk to Chowrasta Market

To be honest, I hesitated giving 4 star, as it's a very basic hotel, no amenities, no lift (if u carry heavy luggage, good luck) or fancy facilities. Plus the person that checked me in gave me a room that was going to undergo a 3-day renovation (with drilling!) in the next few days, without telling me. Hey, I was going to stay there for 7 days! The room he gave me was smaller than what I saw in the pics (narrow walkway between bed and TV wall, plus queen bed only) and I was really upset when the drilling happened. And he was neither smiley, friendly, nor helpful. I wonder why was he even in hospitality line. Thankfully, Sai, another staff whom I reached out to, gave me superb service recovery. He switched me to another room away from the renovation, and was also sized similar to most pictures I'd seen (decent space between King bed and TV wall). It's because of him and this service recovery that made me finally decided to give 4 star from my initial intent of only 1 star! It could have been 3, perhaps. I would say I'll be kind and round it up to 4 just because of Sai. But personally, I probably wouldn't book this hotel again. Will give some other places a try.

Location excellent for walking around and exploring. Room was huge and lovely - only problem is the rather steep stairs up to the room if you choose a twin bed room. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

This was a rare find. We loved the coziness of this hotel. Lisa at the front desk was exceptionally helpful pointing us to places we could go and eat. If you are after local hawker fare they are just a 10 min walk away. Parking can be an issue as there are limited spaces but otherwise, this is an excellent little boutique hotel in the city.

Great little hotel, very boutique focused, great street art throughout the lobby. Lisa the manager was extremely helpful and gave great advice on where to go and where to eat. Only downside was no bar or anywhere near by to go for a drink but saying there’s plenty of fabulous eateries very close. Would recommend if you want a small and quiet place to stay right in town.

Sehr saubere und gute Unterkunft. Das Zimmer war super ausgestattet und hat seinen Zweck erfüllt. Besonders hervorzuheben war die nette Dame an der Hotel Rezeption. Solch einen herzlichen Empfang hatte ich noch in keinem Hotel. Sie hat sich sogar die Zeit genommen uns Tipps zum bereisen von Georgetown zu geben. Ich würde in diesem Hotel direkt wieder buchen! :-)

Truly satisfied with the hotel. It has been my best holiday stay ever. Love the location, walking distance to Penang’s famous food. Hotel staffs are polite and very helpful. The ambiance of the hotel is beautiful and the cleanliness is great. Will definitely come back. Susan Johor

This hotel is a nice little, I believe 20-room clean hotel with large clean rooms and an amazing friendly staff. In particular, Liza is exceptionally helpful and friendly and if you wish, she can arrange for day tours. Excellent hotel. No complaints whatsoever.

100% book this place!! Was amazing from the moment we walked in. We were greeted with a complimentary drink by the amazing Liza. Liza was so helpful and went above and beyond for us. Informing us of the best places to visit etc. we were given an upgrade when we arrived which was amazing. The room was clean, modern, comfortable and the WiFi was strong. Thank you Liza you were incredible!

Liza is a truly wonderful manager. She went above and beyond to help us including excellent restaurant suggestions. The hotel is very nicely presented and the beds and sheets great quality. For us the only drawback was the room not having a window. It is a beautiful old restored building so this is the reality for this type of boutique hotel. That said, once the air conditioning was cranked up the room was fine. We would not recommend hiring a driver via the hotel to tour the city. It would be better to go with someone who speaks English and who can explain a bit about the city.

This hotel is a nice little, I believe 20-room clean hotel with large clean rooms and an amazing friendly staff. In particular, Liza is exceptionally helpful and friendly and if you wish, she can arrange for day tours. Excellent hotel. No complaints whatsoever.

Great location to eating places. All within walking distant. New lane, Kimberley food street. Chowraster markets, Clear Line Nasi Kandar .. all nearby. The hotel is an heritage venue.. the suite are actually adjoining rooms which gives good space and privacy for 4 pax. The wooden antiquity wardrobe doors creaks. And toilet doors creaks too. We stayed at the ground floor rooms facing the parking lot. Could be noisy at night when people talked loudly at the carpark. But it’s just our lock on that particular day. Otherwise it’s super convenient to walk from street to the room.

Staying here was such a delight. I booked this hotel for a quick getaway for my parents who were attending a wedding up north. The manager called me once to confirm the arrival time at the hotel so he could make sure they would have the room ready on time (as they were a bit short handed that day). When my fathers car broke down while in Penang, the manager was absolutely wonderful, and offered them his own personal car so they could make it to the wedding in Alor Setar on time. Hotel side, the Macalister Terraces feels new, clean, well maintained and very central for those wanting to explore Georgetown. Not to mention a very affordable place for those who are looking for comfort at a reasonable price. Would 100% book another stay here, or recommend it anyone travelling to this part of Malaysia. Keep up the great work guys!

Sehr saubere und gute Unterkunft. Das Zimmer war super ausgestattet und hat seinen Zweck erfüllt. Besonders hervorzuheben war die nette Dame an der Hotel Rezeption. Solch einen herzlichen Empfang hatte ich noch in keinem Hotel. Sie hat sich sogar die Zeit genommen uns Tipps zum bereisen von Georgetown zu geben. Ich würde in diesem Hotel direkt wieder buchen! :-)

To be honest, I hesitated giving 4 star, as it's a very basic hotel, no amenities, no lift (if u carry heavy luggage, good luck) or fancy facilities. Plus the person that checked me in gave me a room that was going to undergo a 3-day renovation (with drilling!) in the next few days, without telling me. Hey, I was going to stay there for 7 days! The room he gave me was smaller than what I saw in the pics (narrow walkway between bed and TV wall, plus queen bed only) and I was really upset when the drilling happened. And he was neither smiley, friendly, nor helpful. I wonder why was he even in hospitality line. Thankfully, Sai, another staff whom I reached out to, gave me superb service recovery. He switched me to another room away from the renovation, and was also sized similar to most pictures I'd seen (decent space between King bed and TV wall). It's because of him and this service recovery that made me finally decided to give 4 star from my initial intent of only 1 star! It could have been 3, perhaps. I would say I'll be kind and round it up to 4 just because of Sai. But personally, I probably wouldn't book this hotel again. Will give some other places a try.

Liza is a truly wonderful manager. She went above and beyond to help us including excellent restaurant suggestions. The hotel is very nicely presented and the beds and sheets great quality. For us the only drawback was the room not having a window. It is a beautiful old restored building so this is the reality for this type of boutique hotel. That said, once the air conditioning was cranked up the room was fine. We would not recommend hiring a driver via the hotel to tour the city. It would be better to go with someone who speaks English and who can explain a bit about the city.

After 24 hours solid travelling the Terraces was a welcoming sanctuary for us to recover on the first night and thereafter a well located base for our visit to George Town. The hotel only provides rooms which is no problem with so many good eating places around. Everything was very good quality and well maintained. The artwork in the lobby was fun. All in all, a very enjoyable stay.

I really enjoyed the property; it was so clean, artistic, and felt like a museum. Also a plus everyone was so helpful. Parking easy right in front in spots, but I didn't drive, and I literally walked to everything while I waited to get check in. Can't wait till they open a bar upstairs. Also if you need car service or tours, they have it for you right at the desk so don't book anything online.

This was a rare find. We loved the coziness of this hotel. Lisa at the front desk was exceptionally helpful pointing us to places we could go and eat. If you are after local hawker fare they are just a 10 min walk away. Parking can be an issue as there are limited spaces but otherwise, this is an excellent little boutique hotel in the city.

Great little hotel, very boutique focused, great street art throughout the lobby. Lisa the manager was extremely helpful and gave great advice on where to go and where to eat. Only downside was no bar or anywhere near by to go for a drink but saying there’s plenty of fabulous eateries very close. Would recommend if you want a small and quiet place to stay right in town.

The staff at this hotel is very kind and helpful. Be aware that the rooms which are not in the premium category do not have windows. The windows on the photos are in fact wallpapers. Just to be aware as this can be misleading. Other than that, the place is quite nice and conveniently located. The room in the ground floor was a bit small and you can hear the people passing by the staircase. However, the room on the upper floor (were we relocated to), are a bit larger. Overall, good for one or two nights.
