GRAND BASE Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park

What a gem of a hotel! The vibe is much of a boutique hotel. Our room was big compared to other Japanese hotels in this price range. We had three large twin beds which allowed our family to stay in 1 room. There was a sitting area with couches. There was a separate kitchenette with microwave and stove. Then there was a washing machine in a separate room with detergent -- what a godsend, as it was unexpected yet needed. There were free room amenities in the lobby including toiletries and coffee/ tea. Unexpectedly, as the lobby is NOT manned, there was a cable lock system where you could secure your baggage should you want to sight see after you checked out. Just 1 caveat that I missed when reserving -- there are no staff persons in this hotel. And I didn't get an email for the code you need to: 1. enter the complex 2. register 3. get the lock combo to enter your room. Initially anxiety provoking BUT called the " contact property" link on the Expedia reservation and they walked me through the process easily. Screen shot the codes when you check in! You'll need them. It is not walking distance to the train station but so close to the Memorial park and the ferry to Miyajima Island which is why we chose this hotel. I met the owner of the hotel - clearly the property reflects her kindness and grace. So happy we stayed here but make sure you have the email before arriving.

On walking to the accommodation we were a little concerned as it seemed a bit like suburbia (as it turned out not necessarily a terrible thing but depends what you're looking for) but on arrival found the hotel a bit surprising. Very neat and tidy with only 2 levels and 10 (or 12) rooms. I'm not sure if the rooms are all the same but ours was big with 2 double beds, a living area, kitchenette and bathroom with washing machine. It was only a few hundred metres to the Peace park and transport options were within 300 metres. Would recommend.

The hotel is in a nice quiet and safe area we loved it here just didn’t have enough time.

The property was better than it looked in the pictures and very spacious. Ideally located for the Peace Park and only a short walk/taxi to town. Great property at a reasonable price for larger groups.
