The hotel is cute and clean, with excellent service. They have a great breakfast, though not enough seating. We had 3 rooms and one of the 3 smelled so bad that we came home with all our clothes smelling. They no longer do the mini bar but there is water and coffee in the rooms. The rooms are very modern and stylish but not functional. We had 3 drawers, one with a safe in it. There is no desk, bedside table or dresser to put anything on. Even our phones had to be plugged in to the headboard and set on the bed to charge. I ended up using a tiny step stool from the bathroom to have water by the bed at night.

O Hotel é bem novinho, descolado e muito agradável. O quarto, apesar pequeno, atende bem. Falta um pouco mais de iluminação no banheiro. Tem um restaurante no hall com comida boa e o café da manhã é bem gostoso. Bem localizado. Mas é uma região com estacionamentos bem caros e difíceis. Gostei muito.

From the minute we arrived we felt welcome and comfortable! We felt like we were staying with friends! Enjoyed an evening of good food and live music in the lobby restaurant! All the staff were amazing and hospitable, especially Joana and Guill who were very attentive. The lobby has a great vibe and nice design details with large built in banquette seating to get cosy in. Within walking distance of most sites and points of interest in Lisbon . Our room was small but had everything we needed, except could have had more space to lay out our luggage. We loved our stay! The location is spectacular, the service is incredible, breakfast was delicious and the rooms even though small have everything you might need. We booked a basic room but we lucked out and had a beautiful Juliette balcony facing the street which was a highlight of our stay. If you have a car, park by time out market underground for 30€ a night as you cannot park anywhere around the hotel (not even to unload bags)

As long as you don’t have issues, all fine. As soon as issues arise, you are on your own! Every morning you’d need to wait 15 minutes (at best) for a waiter to come and take your order and serve coffee. In room there were no standard comforts (milk/sugar/coffee?), no vanity kits. It’s more like a hostel, not a 4 star hotel. The reception is the restaurant, so as soon as you walk in you’re pretty much in the kitchen.

Beautiful old building with refurbished, very modern interior. Very modern and cool design in lobby/restaurant area. Very clean and comfortable rooms. Staff was helpful and courteous from our arrival through the duration of our stay. Great breakfast and all day menu in restaurant, a unique fusion of Portuguese and Japanese ingredients and portions.

This is one of the best rooms I have ever stayed in. The room itself is designed in a quirky, modern way. I like the shelving/storage and the border around the bed. I loved the fact that I had a balconette and full length opening window doors. Huge telly opposite bed and water in the room plus products was a huge plus. Felt very cosy! Staff were so helpful and friendly and loved teh fact that it was 24 hour service and could just unwind in teh bar alone with no probs after a long day exploring - location was fantastic for a first-timer to Lisbon and I found it very safe and convenient for transport links.

The hotel is very clean. But, the staff are amazing. All of them but especially Nelson. I left my phone in an Uber and he spent so much time trying to help me. Big THank You!!! Breakfast is amazing too. Would stay here again for sure.

Friendly staff. Gave us a room upgrade because our requested room was unavailable. Cool vibe, location, very close to great coffee. Didn’t go to the hotel restaurant but liked the ambience and seemed pretty busy and popular. Only complaint was it wasn’t very clean. There was some trash left on the shelf next to bed. Hairs all over the bathroom floor. Sheets had some strange brown stains. Bed was really comfortable. Dusty touch areas.

Nice hotel and staff. Both the Continental and Japanese breakfasts were delicious and filling. There was a small bloodstain on one of our bedsheets which made me question when they were last changed or how they were cleaned, but otherwise the room was clean. We were in a room with a bunkbed where you had to climb up a vertical set of shelving to get to the top bunk; I was confident I would be able to do this but after so many times I still felt nervous after a week going up and down as there's little grip or anywhere to hold onto to pull you up, because of this a chair at the bottom would of been nice to be able to sit our lounge in when in the room but not quite ready to sleep, without having to disturb the other person's bed at the bottom. I never take anything from the fridge/mini-bar, but I did notice some of the prices were quite extortionate for people who were interested; a pot of Japanese ramen was 4-5 times the price of what it costs for me at home; same brand and product.

Petit déjeuner buffet. Pas de restaurant disponible contrairement à ce qui est noté mais un grand choix à proximité.

The pictures of the rooms look quite small, but trust me, they are SPACIOUS and well equipped. The hotel is incredibly clean and well maintained, the desk staff were super friendly, and the breakfast was delicious. I could not have had a better experience with Independente Bica!

Vi havde en enkelt overnatning. Dejligt hotel, god beliggenhed og fin morgenmad. Fantastisk personale. Venlige og hjælpsomme hele vejen. Værelserne var fint indrettede, hvor der er fået meget ud af den plads som er. Lækkert badeværelse og ikke mindst dejligt rent. Kaffe og te på værelset, samt fint lille køleskab. Hvis man skal finde et enkelt minus, så skal den som ligger inderst i sengen kravle over den anden for at komme ud. Vi fandt dog ikke at det var et problem. Der ligger cafeer, barer og restauranter i meget kort afstand, men ikke noget hvor støjniveauet er generende. Alt i alt et dejligt sted hvor vi gerne kommer igen. Det kan varmt anbefales.

The hotel was in a really good location and close to many restaurants, shops and transport links. The room was decorated well and the amenities were good - really good shower with rainfall and detachable head! The staff were friendly and the breakfast buffet, whilst small, was tasty and topped up regularly. My only issue was with noise - I was at back of property so no street noise however the sound from other rooms above and beside did travel a lot. This is in a way understandable as an older building however as the rooms here are advertised as “soundproof”; this was louder than expected. Overnight this wasn’t too bad but maybe something to be aware of if you go to bed early or want a lie in! Overall though I would recommend for a trip to Lisbon; it’s vibe and closeness to transport and amenities was great.

Rooms were clean and modern and they even put some complimentary wine and beer and chocolate in the fridge. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. We stayed 3 nights but in 2 different rooms (as booked at separate times when we added another day in Lisbon) and both rooms were great. Oh and the blinds are blackout. Slept so well.

The hotel is very clean. But, the staff are amazing. All of them but especially Nelson. I left my phone in an Uber and he spent so much time trying to help me. Big THank You!!! Breakfast is amazing too. Would stay here again for sure.

The staff are five stars. The rooms are a bit small but everything is clean. Great location. Loved being able to enjoy breakfast downstairs in the morning. We left my husband’s wallet and medicine in the room and headed to Barcelona. Everyone we spoke with was wonderful. They expedited the items to us which was amazing because without those medications we would have had to skip our cruise. Everything was returned to us. They are honest and were extremely kind. We will return to this hotel ( and will book a larger room!) So grateful.

As long as you don’t have issues, all fine. As soon as issues arise, you are on your own! Every morning you’d need to wait 15 minutes (at best) for a waiter to come and take your order and serve coffee. In room there were no standard comforts (milk/sugar/coffee?), no vanity kits. It’s more like a hostel, not a 4 star hotel. The reception is the restaurant, so as soon as you walk in you’re pretty much in the kitchen.

From arriving and being checked in by an exceptionally helpful Nicole (helped us buy tickets for that evening's Benfica match). To leaving early in the morning after 5 very comfortable nights with a take away breakfast prepared for us to take with us. Great location, close to excellent transport links which enabled us to get to Sintra and Cascais by train and walk quickly to many of Lisbon’s main tourist spots. Excellent restaurant recommendations meant we had two superb fish based evening meals and the excellent breakfast was more than enough to keep us going through the day. Would happily recommend the hotel and would go again in a flash.

Love this hotel! Great location and amazing staff. Everyone was friendly and very helpful! Only 1 complaint…we could hear the people above us stomping! So many restaurants to walk to but you must eat at the hotel restaurant! It was honestly the best meal we had during our trip. I wish I could remove our servers name because she is fabulous!

At the beginning I didn’t want to say anything because I told myself I will never go there again and doesn't worth it. We arrived in Lisbon after a red eye flight at 11am. We were tired and traveled with kids. I asked If we could get the room but they said it was not ready but we could walk a little bit and they will text us when ready, as they are asking the housekeeping for a rush cleaning of the room. We took a long 4h walk, waiting for the message that never came. We finally returned at the hotel and I asked if the room was ready and they were almost angry at me and told me to wait because even if we were supposed to get it at 3pm this doesn’t mean we will. Finally we got the room and we tried to rest but at 7pm the housekeeper got into the room for no reason. When she realized we were there she ran out. The next three days nobody cleaned the room. We were not provided with the free water or coffee they said we will get. Now, five days after we left I got an email from the front desk of the hotel telling me I will be charged 26euros for a bottle of Mateus we took from the minibar. First of all there was never a bottle of alcohol in the room, second, we couldn’t have consumed it because our religion doesn’t allow us to consume any alcohol. I looked on internet and a bottle of Mateus wine is 8euros. So my advise, think twice before booking this hotel

Location of the hotel is great,right opposite 'Ascensor da Bica'. Room was just big enough, had a very practical and eye-pleasing design using every milimitre of space and thus was spacious for all 3 of us. Air-conditioning worked flawlessly and all windows were equipped with electrically operated shutters that sent the room into complete darkness with one touch of a button.All staff members we met during our stay were extraordinarily friendly, professional, helpful and kind.Breakfast offer only lacked one thing-tomatoes or some other vegetables.Other than that we couldn't be more satisfied and I have to point out Egg Benedict and Egg Royal that we looked forward to every single morning.Also,the a'la carte dishes were phenomenal (we tried 3 different dishes and they were all delicious) and the desserts were the best we experienced anywhere during our wandering round Lisbon.The stay had literally no weaknesses, everything was working like a well oiled machine. If we ever go back to Lisbon, and I truly hope we will, we will definitely be staying here again which itself is a testament of how good it was. Thanks once again and thank you for the lovely birthday surprise for our daughter. We were left speechless for a while!

VIP access is denied by hotels. Very noisy area especially the streets. Can be heard inside your room. Very clean. No lobby. Restaurant around the area are excellent. Time out market a minute walk from this hotel. Landmarks are also very close

Overall a great stay. Breakfast is great! Location is perfect for exploring on foot. However, I recommend NOT paying for taxi service through the hotel. Uber is extremely affordable in Lisbon and our taxi (arranged by hotel) was 95 euros for 3 people round trip. Uber would have been a third of that price. Make sure to check out the MilkMan restaurant across the street!!

Great little hotel in a great location. Rooms are small but very functional. It is on a busy road lined with bars and restaurants, so it is loud at night. We did not mind, as we went in November but might be something to keep in mind if you are visiting in the summer months. The hotel is opposite the funicular de Bica and we loved walking up to barrio alto every night for a little stroll. The metro is like 5 minutes away and you can walk to the center in like 10-15 minutes. Staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast buffet was great.

This was a welcome surprise! I didn’t have huge expectations for my experience at Independente Bica but it was my favorite hotel stay by the end of the 5 day stay. The rooms were stylish and modern with Japanese styling. It was just me in the room which was plenty of space. My friends stayed in the hotel too and I saw their rooms. Each was well apportioned with great light and views. I stayed on the third floor which was Mateus themed so everything was pink. Two of my favorite elements overall: the Staff and the location. The staff were friendly and super familiar with the neighborhood and Lisbon. They gave us great recommendations and greeted us with a smile each time. There was breakfast service included each morning and a good wine selection for dinner. (The lobby is a restaurant btw). The location could not be beat. I was worried that we were not in the dead center of the city but our location ended up being on a super active party street. There were tons of restaurants, parties until 2a (June is party season) and ubers galore. We never waited more than 2 minutes. I loved walking to shops and dinner and bars. I don’t stay at the same hotel twice but I may make and exception for Independente Bica!

The room was ok, we were fortunate to be given an upgrade which was nice, it had quite a small bathroom and a bed that you couldn’t walk around so might be tricky if you had mobility issues. It was quirky though, which we liked, so not a problem for us. We would definitely stay here again.

Very nice hotel with super kind staff ! Everything is more than perfect! The location is very near to Lisbon city center in a cosy neighbourhood. You can easily take the train or bus to any destination. We stayed in their largest room, it was amazing! One remark is the breakfast. You can choose between a Japanese and a continental menu but the Japanese was not our thing. As a consequence we ate the whole week the same breakfast. They might include some more variety. But overall we would recommend this because the kindness of the staff made us smile everyday!!

Beautiful old building with refurbished, very modern interior. Very modern and cool design in lobby/restaurant area. Very clean and comfortable rooms. Staff was helpful and courteous from our arrival through the duration of our stay. Great breakfast and all day menu in restaurant, a unique fusion of Portuguese and Japanese ingredients and portions.
