Incredible stay at Hotel Katla! Room was clean, comfortable and quiet. Location is very easy to find, and perfect for a driving holiday. We got to see the Northern Lights too! Breakfast buffet was fantastic - loads of options and dietary information was very clear which made our experience much better. Really enjoyed the hot tub & sauna too. It was a shared ammenity, but was never too busy.

Le seul bémol est que le bain chaud en extérieur est relativement petit comparé à la taille de l'hôtel. Nous y étions en hiver, donc nous avons eu le bain juste pour nous, le premier soir, mais parce que le temps n'était pas très invitant. En revanche le deuxième soir, le bain était plein pendant un bon moment donc nous n'y sommes pas allés. Je n'ose donc pas imaginer en plein été ...

Website shows there is a pool but there is not. Overall, we enjoyed our room and our stay. The bathroom is crazy tiny, no shampoo/conditioner, and no place to put it if you bring your own. Shower curtain is useless, and the entire bathroom floor was wet after showering. We only stayed one night so not a huge deal. Any longer and it would have been an issue. Dinner and breakfast were great, and staff all seemed very nice.

A very clean hotel and property. The breakfast was amazing! Our room was very comfortable and we had a great night sleep. Everyone at the front desk was very professional and extremely helpful! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay overnight at this property.

Worst stay of our trip. We were engaged a few hours before and informed staff and were told no upgrades could be made. The bedding was horrible. Bug found in the bed. Staff were incredibly rude when checking in. Would not recommend staying here.

This was a great hotel. By far, the largest room we stayed in. It was clean, and had comfortable furniture. If you don’t choose to eat at the hotel restaurant, there are lots of great restaurants only ten minutes away.

This hotel was very clean and comfortable. It was outside of town bit and away from the road so it was quiet and lovely. The buildings are a bit dated, but the room was very nice. Our stay included breakfast, which was a largest and freshest continental breakfast I have ever seen.

We stayed only one night which is probably usual. We found the staff friendly but our room felt dirty. Under the bed there was a flight ticket of someone else so they dont clean up the room well. Also the bathroom was strange, all the water from the shower leaked on the floor of the bathroom. For a 200€ room I would expect more. The buffet dinner was really good. Breakfast was ok. We did not try the hot tub as it was crowded most of the time.

Room was small but clean and in good condition. Spa area (locker rooms, gym) smelly and dirty, could need some deep cleaning ... Sauna had some holes in the wall, hot tubs was ok, but could need some cleaning as well. Restaurant and breakfast were excellent, staff at reception (Raphael) was very polite and supportive

The hotel itself is within views of the mountains and and across the road from the shoreline. The rooms were spacious, clean, and convenient. However, if you're looking to wind down each night by watching tv, you may want to look somewhere else as the terrible wifi made it a challenge.

The room was cooler than I wanted and the thermostat was inoperative. There were no plugs near the desk with the kettle, so I had to plug it in by the bed or on the floor. The walls are thin - you can hear normal conversational voices from the next room. The duvet and pillow cases were annoyingly textured. This is a budget hotel and it shows more than in some.

Updated. Spacious room. Mini Fridge in room was a big plus. Quiet. Cost: $285 US for a standard room. Nice view from window. That included breakfast. It was the best breakfast we had on the trip.

The rooms are clean with an excellent view- the bathroom floor is soaked with every shower- but dried very quickly. No ledge to put anything on in the bathroom. Breakfast is outstanding!

Some distance to Vik. Not sure why they asked for passport information. We did not experience this with other hotels. Very good breakfast. The room and the bathroom were small. The room was clean.

The hotel is very neat and clean and breakfast is high standard. Also I had a great experience with this hotel.I had left my sweater in the room, but thanks to their quick response, I was able to receive it at the hotel in Reykjavik on the day of my departure. I was truly touched by their kindness. Highly recommended.

The Katla hotel was superb - neat, clean, courteous, professional waitstaff and front desk. Hallway lights were on a timer to conserve energy and there were recycle bins available. The food was incredible, including the decadent dinner buffet. They honestly left nothing to be desired. On our second morning, after a wonderful breakfast (included in your stay), our room key did not work. The front desk reset our keys (did not work), then gave us new keys (did not work), and finally called maintenance since it was assumed the issue was with the door lock and not the keys. Maintenance was able to get in with his own master key, but paused before letting us in, remarking that he wanted to make sure this was indeed our room. I was surprised, since the idea of crime in Iceland was completely non-existent, but comforted that they took our safety seriously. We were able to show him our passports once in the room to reassure him. That's quality service.

This property is a good stay option with a sauna and hot tub. The breakfast buffet had many options. The staff was not very helpful or polite. We asked for our rooms to be cleaned and after a day of touring and hiking, we returned to our room not only uncleaned, but towels weren’t even replaced. When we went to the front desk to ask for towels they were curt with us. Another major issue was the bedding. The pillow and duvet have a rough sear-sucker pattern. It was uncomfortable, especially for my husband. When we asked for another fitted sheet so my husband could use that as a blanket, we were dismissed and told that wouldn’t work and that in Iceland you use a duvet only-again, the duvet wasn’t the problem but the cover was very textured and uncomfortable for my husband. Finally, we only got 1 pillow and when we asked for a second one, we were told no! We travel a lot throughout Europe and we are not unreasonable guest by any means. I have never written a negative review and have booked over 20 stays with Expedia. This property is nice, but the staff were just not hospitable at all.

Love that we booked this place for a night as we make our way around Iceland. Staff at the front desk was super nice, they have a laundry service for a fee but it’s convenient and they provide you a bag and depending on when you drop it off you could get it that evening or on your way to breakfast. Excited for the free breakfast buffet in the morning after eating at the hotel restaurant for dinner. They have the option of a dinner buffet on the menu and the options are amazing. The price might seem steep but try to get apps, salad, entree, and dessert for that same price in town. Wait staff was great. Room is spacious, bed is comfortable, good blackout curtains. Would recommend!

Not the warmest of welcome from reception. Felt like we had disturbed his day. The barman had clearly had a humour bi pass. The buffet was disappointing. Starters were good but the main courses were poor. Stayed at lovely hotels around Iceland, this wasn’t one of them. On the positive side, it was a great location

The breakfast bar was really good! And the dinner smorgasbord was amazing!!!! It was well worth the price as opposed to dining a la cart/entree. The room was nice and cozy and the view from the window towards the ocean was very nice as well. The location very convenient for Black Sands Beach. We plan on staying here again (and again).

Room was comfortable and clean. Nicely furnished / modern. They had a very nice breakfast buffet. Got there late and had to leave early the next morning so we didn't have much time to explore the property, but what we saw was very nice. Hotel was conveniently located for us to explore Dryholaey, Reynisjara, Skogafoss, Mossy Lava Fields and Fjadrargljufur.

This place was great! Staff were friendly and easy to communicate with. The food was fantastic and one of the better locations we have eaten and stayed at. Facility was nice and fairly clean. Shower tile and tile around toilet was wet upon check. Drinks at the bar were spendy, but overall it was a pleasant stay.
