Die Port van Cleve is a charming and peaceful hotel in an excellent central location, just minutes from Dam Square and close to everything you need. The beds were very comfy—perfect after a long day of exploring. The rooms are quiet, ensuring a restful night’s sleep. However, the lighting is quite dim and could use more downlighting, as it can be hard to find things at night. The lifts are also very slow, which may test your patience. Overall, a lovely stay with great comfort and location—just a few tweaks away from perfect.

The hotel and staff were great. Its in a great location for visiting sites near the city center. The area near the hotel isn't the cleanest but the hotel can't do anything about that. The staff was very helpful upon our arrival in Amsterdam. They kept our luggage when we got there while we saw some sites before our check in time.

Very nice room and the hotel was walkable (30 minutes or less) from Central Station, to Rijkmuseum, to Bloemenmarkt, to restaurants on Spuistraat, to Anne Frank House. Breakfast buffet was excellent! We really enjoyed the history and the bar next door, with the Delft tile mural.

Fabulous location, modern room (we had 308.. they are still renovating so not all rooms are done). Great bar where Heineken started brewing and enjoyed the restaurant buffet breakfast (approx 23 euros) each morning. The staff are exceptional and informative. Emails from the hotel prior to arrival were the best- including how to navigate from the airport or train to the hotel.

Our room was very small with hardly any space to lay out our suitcases. We had to rearrange the furniture to make it work. The fridge did not work and the front desk staff insisted that it did. They also forgot to clean our room one day and we felt we needed to remind them. Our room was down a set of very narrow and steep stairs. It would have been nice to know this ahead of time or for the staff to offer to help carry luggage. I was worried about hurting myself on those stairs. There was also a lot of street noise.

The hotel is in a great location and they even gave me a room with a bathtub I requested. My only grievances are that they never gave us fresh towels even when they were on the floor and dirty. They just folded them back up. And didn’t replace the mugs and cups. There was ac which was great. And tea and coffee. But it was only replaced once. They didn’t clean the room between nights which I thought was odd. And the phone didn’t work in the room. For the price I paid the service was mid but the location was great and the room was big.

The hotel is awesome. We were pleased with the room, the location, and the food. The only area of improvement would be with housekeeping. The room was clean. Every morning we had coffee and a tea. These were not replaced daily, so we had to ask for more. Perhaps this was just an oversight, but it occurred the entire time we were there. Other than that minor complaint, we loved the hotel and will stay again.

Pour un 4 étoiles, l'hôtel n'était pas du tout à la hauteur. La chambre et la salle de bain n'étaient pas propres. On a même trouvé 2 fourmilles dans le lit la dernière nuit. Au check-out, nous en avons informé la personne à l'accueil qui s'est excusé et a proposé de ne pas nous faire payé un petit-déjeuner pris. Sauf que c'était déjà payé. Il a émis un doute en disant qu'on a toujours un solde dû qui est ce petit-déjeuner. En gros il nous faisait comprendre qu'il veut nous faire un geste commercial, sauf que c'était déjà payé donc rien n'a été fait. Inacceptable !! Côté rue c'est très brouillant même après minuit. Le matin, c'est la collecte des déchets avant 7h donc impossible de dormir correctement. La chambre standard est très petite pour deux personnes. Difficile de se déplacer sans toucher les meubles. Il n'y avait même pas une armoire fermée. Points positifs : La personne à l'accueil pour le check-in était sympa. Bon petit-déjeuner et personnel du restaurant très aimable.

We got a room in what felt and smelled like the basement with the view of a wall and a window to the kitchen or something which was both claustrophobic and disappointing, it was quite clean except from a lot of black hairs all over the bathroom (on towels and stuff, we are blonde so it couldn't be from us) but we got a coffee machine and fridge which was nice and the bed was comfortable. The room was overall nice with an old fashion touch but with a very new and renovated bathroom. The staff was very nice and helpful also.

Great location and a historic site, personnel was amazing and the restaurant pretty good too even though they have a short menu. However, the beds are really bad... the mattress from the double beds are separated and they kept sliding to the sides so in the middle of the night you might find yourself with half body out.

Hotel location was great for easy tram access and close by canal ring/Anne Frank house. Room was clean with comfortable bed, air conditioning did not work but windows opened and we were provided with a fan on request. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay again.

The location is good and just 12 min walk to central train station and 5 min away from Dam Square. The staffs are friendly and helpful, we are welcome by Karim and he even walked us to our room and showed us the history of the hotel. The room is spacious and clean and the only drawback is the lighting. The only place have good lighting is the washroom, all other areas are very dim. Hope they would adjust the brightness of it. We are please to stay here and will be back next time.

The hotel is in a fantastic location, close to bars, restaurants, and easily walkable to one of Amsterdam’s best neighborhoods. The front desk staff were friendly and accommodating, even letting us check in early after a redeye and helping carry bags up the narrow staircase. That said, the standard room was far too small for two people with checked luggage—you’ll struggle to open suitcases and move around. The room was also uncomfortably warm, as the AC never fully cooled it and the windows didn’t open. Housekeeping was inconsistent, sometimes leaving trash behind and once remaking the bed with a towel still under the sheets. The beds themselves were a disappointment: hard pillows, stiff pillowcases, and mattresses that slid apart made for poor sleep. Overall, I’d recommend this property for the location and service, but strongly suggest booking a larger room for comfort.

Great location, close to the city center as well as the Jordaan neighborhood. However the check in process was extremely slow (waited 20 min for room key despite showing up after the appropriate check in time). The condition of the room was very ok, clean enough, but not incredibly nice. Other downside is I booked and paid in full thru Expedia but still had to pay a city tax I wasn’t aware of upon check in. So the stay was more costly than advertised.

I recently had an awful experience at Die Port Van Cleve that I have waited to share, to give the hotel a chance to put it right, but they have chosen to completely ignore my issue so now, I must warn others. During my stay, several of my necklaces and a valuable Hermes bracelet were stolen from my room. The items were not left out and were in a jewellery case inside a pocket of my backpack so someone thoroughly went through my belongings. I spoke with the hotel who asked me to detail the missing items, which i did, however they have completely ignored my multiple follow ups. I have received absolutely NO response. It's bad enough that I lost sentimental and valuable items, but the complete lack of communication and care from the hotel's staff is utterly unprofessional and unacceptable. This hotel clearly does not prioritize the safety and security of its guests, nor does it have any respect for customer service. I strongly advise against staying here. Choose a hotel that values its guests and their belongings. Zero stars! Avoid at all costs!

The property and room were very nice. The location was perfect for getting around town, the hotel restaurants were also great. But the staff, especially the front desk staff, went above and beyond to help me with a train issue. They also helped with dinner reservations and planning our short time in Amsterdam. Thank you!!!

Do not stay here!! Zero help from management when flights were cancelled and were going to be delayed days getting there. They refused to switch dates and wasted LOTS of money and no help or empathy from them. Just read all the other reviews people having same problem!

Karim, Ercan and Meindert welcomed me every time I passed the front desk- their hospitality was appreciated! Their suggestions proved to be accurate- saved me time and money when adventuring on my own. Ended up frequenting the restaurant as well for the friendliness of the staff. Perfect location- a hub of all AMS has to offer!

We rushed out didn’t put our iPad in safe when we got back room wasn’t. Made and iPad was gone. It showed on our iPhone it was in hotel. It still shows it’s there. Staff helped looking for it but didn’t turn out. We hope they find it and mail it to us. But we wasted so much time emptying room luggage over and over.

The hotel is very convenienly located from the Central Train Station, to sightseeing destinations, and the shopping district. Rooms are tiny, literally tiny... lacking some usual amenities but very clean! There is no 'reception' area as such, but there's a lovely bar and restaurant within the hotel and many cafes etc. very close by. Overall it is a good choice if you don't plan to spend too much time at the hotel but use it as a base to explore Amsterdam. The staff is generally friendly as well. Would probably consider staying here again if I'd find a good price (as including this hotel, room prices in Amsterdam are unnecessarily expensive.)

Die Port Van Cleve is a wonderful renovated hotel in the heart of all the action Amsterdam had to offer. The room was clean with an excellent shower. Breakfast buffet was good. There were so many options for bakeries and food in general. It’s in a great spot close the Central Train Station.
