The swimming pool was being rebuilt. No notification of this was given on booking with Hoteks.com. The noise was terrible with drilling throughout the day. Through breakfast to early evening. I videoed the carnage and will be uploading to social media.

We had a very difficult start, to find (without any notification) that the pool was out of use for refurb. We were steered towards pool at neighbouring property, Portswood. After some strong representations from ourselves, the issue was picked up, with good grace, by Simon and Melissa who - for us - saved the reputation of the hotel. The pool reopened looking good on our last day.

When I was staying there the renovating the pool would be nice to know about that before I turned up. Yes there was another pool to use but it was a bit of a hike. The other thing is a little bit disgruntled about the flexibility. I had to change my plans and I gave him three days notice to shorten my trip by a day. They were capacity and probably rented out my room but they wouldn’t give me a credit for the last day.

Nice property, close enough to The V & A Waterfront. An easy 5-10 minute walk. (More lighting, especially in stairways, would be appreciated however the hotel has nothing to do with this.) Complimentary valet was a nice touch. Staff was friendly.

Lovely hotel, beautiful lobby bar area. Plesant patio garden where you could eat, drink or chill. We had the Durban suite 2047, which was spacious and luxurious. However situated at the side and back of hotel. Small balcony with poor patio furniture. With no cushions. So not encouraged to sit out there. We ate in the restaurant the food was good. Overall staff was helpful plesant. However we had a few hiccups, which the hotel had to resolve. Dont expect quick responses. Stairwall indicates its staff only. Great location near VA waterfront

The lobby and main floor was beautiful. The room we had was bad. The backboard were chipped and not maintained. There were stains on the carpet. The shower mat was molded. We had to ask to restock bath tissue and facial tissue.

The Commodore has an Old World elegance. Our room was large enough (not spacious but generous) and it was immaculate. The staff members were lovely - helpful and personable. There is a very nice door/outdoor restaurant where the food was delicious and the service excellent. Location wise - it’s about a long city block to the V & A shopping area which offers anything you need in n a safe atmosphere. We enjoyed out stay very much.

What I loved the most was the location: just a 5-minute walk to the waterfront. We even walked there at night and felt completely safe, which was great. What I didn’t like were the beds, they were extremely hard and cero comfy, and the cleanliness could be improved—we actually found a live cockroach in the bathroom (luckily on the day we were leaving). The reception staff wasn’t very friendly either, especially compared to the excellent service my mom received at her hotel nearby. On the positive side, the restaurant, bar, concierge (who helped us book a really nice tour), and the luggage staff all provided excellent service. ....... Lo que más me gustó fue la ubicación: en solo 5 minutos caminando llegábamos al waterfront, incluso de noche nos sentimos seguras caminando por la zona. Muy conveniente. Lo que no me agradó fueron las camas, demasiado duras, y el tema de limpieza, ya que encontramos una cucaracha en el baño (aunque fue justo el día que nos íbamos). El personal de recepción tampoco fue amable, a diferencia de otro hotel donde se hospedó mi mamá, donde la atención fue excelente. Por otro lado, el personal del restaurante, bar, concierge (quien nos ayudó a reservar un tour increíble) y quienes guardan las maletas tuvieron un trato excelente.

I was very disappointed. The property was run down, maid service was very poor, furniture was worn, one day we only had lukewarm water in the shower. The maid did not come during the day. So we called in the late afternoon requesting sheets, towels and coffee. They changed the sheets and took the old towels but did not bring any towels or coffee pods. So we called later in the evening and they brought towels but only sugar - no coffee. Just limited attention to detail and service. At best this is a 3 star hotel. I would never stay here again.

The Commodore Hotel is the perfect place to stay while in Cape Town. It is very close to the V & A waterfront and is easily walkable. The breakfast was delicious! Our room had it's own balcony and a view of Table Mountain and Signal Hill. All the staff were professional and helpful. Highly recommend this Hotel!

incredibly old hotel room - the carpeting definitely needs changing, there was only 1 usable power outlet, the shower drained very slowly and the AC unit made ruckus. the breakfast buffet was good, it's located next to lots of restaurants and the staff was friendly and polite.

Location is fantastic, cross a road and you're in the thick of it in the Waterfront. Area felt safe. Room was average sized, but nice and clean, with comfortable bed and decent shower (no bath in our room). Staff are excellent throughout...reception, concierge, restaurant, cleaning...can't fault any of the people who were friendly and always helpful.

Too much noise during the night from people in the street below if you happen to be on that side of the hotel. I had requested a quiet room! And the usual door slamming by noisy guests oblivious to the fact that some people sleep between 10pm and 8am

We had a shaky start to our vacation due to missing luggage, a very late check-in, and the rooms we booked not being available. However, Ricardo and Alan went above and beyond to make sure our luggage was picked up and we had great rooms! Love them! Would definitely stay here again!

Unfortunately the only positive thing about The Commodore is the location. If you like rock hard beds (literally sleeping on the floor would be better) and bad pillows then this is the place for you. The service just wasn’t there for us. Of the 4 nights we were there on three of the days the valet brought out the wrong car for us so we had to wait long periods for our car. It was a plus this was included in our stay but it was never efficient. We had an awful experience at 1.30am with room service knocking on our door to deliver us food. We didn’t order the food and were fast asleep to be woken but them and tell them we didn’t order. After we had finally fallen asleep our phone rang at 2am and it was the room service lady accusing us of lying and saying that we did order room service and why did I send it away. She couldn’t accept that she had made a mistake and recorded the wrong room and ending up hanging up on me. 15 minutes later she called and hung up again. Complaining to the manager the next day, all we received was an apology and that they had a lot of new staff on, it’s not acceptable to be woken at that time and then accused of lying. Do not stay at this hotel, it was an awful experience for us in Cape Town, the only good thing was the location but there are others around.

The female reception staff were surly and disinterested and arrogant. I unfortunately can’t name the individual because my post will then not be accepted, but I don’t think TATUM O’Neill would check into this hotel……the male reception staff were delightful. The porters were very helpful and the housekeeping good. Hotel overpriced for what is offered.

Good hotel in excellent location.There is an inflexible 2pm check-in, though I had contacted the hotel earlier to ask for an earlier check-in as we were arriving early. We found it irritating and annoying that tour groups and many other people were given rooms, and though we asked several times, our room was not available until 2pm on the dot. Surely they could have a little effort to get a room ready so that we didn't have to wait 5 hours. As a result, I would not stay here again.

You’re greeted with a warm smile. Very clean property and close to everything. All the staff are super nice, helpful, and willing to help with you anything. Especially at the front desk Andile, he helped my family with any questions, upgrading or any accommodations I needed. This location is perfect to the shops, harbor and have taxis readily available at the front door. Property was super clean and breakfast in the morning was scrumptious. My kids played in the pool, it was clean. I’d definitely recommend this hotel to anyone.

Unfortunately the pool was being refurbished and we had a slight panic before check in as the hotel sent a confirmation through the day before arrival with the wrong dates. We couldn’t get hold of anyone to speak with. It was all fine on check in but caused some stress in advance.

Excellent choice for a hotel. It is a 2 minute walk to the V & A harbor but you are out of the hustle and bustle and noise of the harbor. The junior suite was spacious with nice extra touches like cookies and a welcome chocolate on the pillow. They replaced linens every day and water bottles. The breakfast buffet was excellent with hot choices like made to order eggs, excellent fresh fruit and pastries as well as many other things. We ate dinner one night at the hotel and it was excellent. The staff was excellent. So friendly and helpful and always smiling.

The exec floor corner rooms offer an incredible view. Nice lunch and gym was well equipped. Room service was awful and despite saying it was awful I wasn’t offered a refund. Save your money and eat at the Time Out market really close to the hotel.

Wonderful 2 nt stay in a great location within easy walking to the waterfront shops and food markets. The staff was super friendly and very helpful ...... you could tell everyone enjoyed working there. We especially enjoyed the choice of outdoor (terrace) or indoor dining.
