The Ashley Hotel Greymouth

Pretty average motel, only lightly surface cleaned, corners of the room were dusty and dirty, however the bed was absolutely atrocious. The whole bed was slumped in and on a huge lean, springs digging into my sides, base was broken, it was the one of the most uncomfortable sleeps I have ever had. Please replace beds at some point, I am convinced they are older than I am. Pool was kept locked so pretty upsetting we weren’t able to use that as it was featured on the listing. Likely won’t stay again when we return to the coast. Thanks for having us.

Nice overnight stay, lovely room. The swimming pool is freezing & not really big enough to swim, the spa pool & hot tub were empty of water. Lovely evening meal, breakfast average, not very warm. Overall comfortable night.

Parking easy but not safe

Very clean but a bit of a labyrinth to get around with tight parking areas outside units.

The guests staying here were very loud. Up and down the corridors. Slamming of doors all night and early morning.. the walls felt paper thin. You can here the conversation next day.. tried to have a swim in the pool however this was only half full so unable to swim at all..

This is a nice hotel with an excellent front desk but was let down by WiFi issues and services being unavailable. The ‘satellite channels amounted to twelve, five of which were unavailable, the jacuzzi/spa was closed and the WiFi in room 60 refused to connect. The unheated pool was refreshing! Otherwise the room was comfortable and staff very helpful.

Quick checkin and we were unpacked and enjoying the hot spa. Room was great, clean and spacious. Had a lovely dinner at the on-site restaurant. Enjoyable stay.

Service and restaurant was very good. Was disappointed to find the bed had not been changed from previous guest as there was human hair/ public hair throughout sheets and pillow cases had not been changed.

Very clean, comfortable and friendly. Had a great nights sleep.

When I checked in, my credit card details were handwritten on my check-in piece of paper (not secured). I was given brief instructions on how to find my room. My room initially looked beautiful, however I found the bathroom with a puddle on the floor and a wet brown/red like substance throughout the shower. I went back to reception, to be told it is when other guests shower & splash the walls the water can make it look dirty. I queried if they had not cleaned after the last guest so the person at the desk took the key from me to go and inspect. He came back out quickly and said he would find me another room. He was clearly not happy about it and was very short with me. He went to a couple of other rooms before finding me one and gave me the key with no explanation on how to find the room. I had to ask. I went up to the room the door was wide open. I soon realised why. It was very hot inside the room and there was no airconditioner. The window only opened a couple of inches. I then found an old small fan in the cupboard. All the fan did was push hot air around. The bathroom was old and dated with a fixed shower head that sent water in every direction but down. For the cost of this hotel, I felt very let down and could not believe others gave it 5 stars. Sleep did not happen due to the extreme temperature inside the room. An airconditioner and some new bathroom fittings would change this hotel completely.

House keeping lacking thorougness and attention in their work. The toilet roll had feces on it. I was advised to email the hotel about this but never received a response. Very disappointing.

Room was much smaller than expected. The bathroom had small mold patches. The TV was fuzzy & missing a lot of channels and weak/no signal on others. The bed wasnt great and could feel every move the other person made.

Lovely modern room. Very clean. Staff friendly and helpful. Will stay here again.

Falls Short of Expectations Our stay at The Ashley Hotel was disappointing. The walls were incredibly thin—we were constantly woken up by doors banging, and unfortunately, staff did nothing to address the noise. We booked a king bed but were given twin beds instead, which wasn’t ideal. The room lacked air conditioning, and while a fan was provided, it was dusty and not well-maintained. On the plus side, the location is convenient for those driving, as it’s along the highway with easy parking. However, it’s quite far from town. With a few improvements, this could be a solid stay, but as it stands, it doesn’t quite live up to its near 4-star rating.

Our 1 night stay was more than adequate, but certainly no thrills. Bathroom was a little dated and worn, but the bed was large and comfy. In room television was basic, and the wall mounted heater needs some attention. Would return, but hopefully with some renovations carried out

We were situated at the rear of the property at the cemetery end and there was no wifi available, there is no air-conditioning and very little ability to get fresh air into the room as the window opening was fixed. A small fan was available. The property is tired and needs updating although some attempt has been made with furnishings. The tv was fuzzy, some of the electrical switches didnt operate.

Wifi was quite bad but other than that a great stay and grateful to have been able to make a last minute booking!

The room was clean. I booked a King & got two double beds. When I inquired at the desk after checking in I was told the double beds were a King room. I was either lied to or the room was misrepresented. Given the area is fully booked I had no choice but to stay. Will not book with Ashley again.

I booked this hotel and was charged the full amount before being handed our hotel room key. Unfortunately we took a step in the room and lasted less then 2 minutes before we had to leave, as our disabled son was traumatized by the room and had a major autistic meltdown. We are not sure what caused this meltdown (couldve been a smell, noise, or just the room) but he was patting his ears while hysterically crying and repeating the word 'door'. He was terrified and we wouldve ruined everyones holidays if we hadve stayed, as he would not stop screaming. We handed our key back in and explained why we had to leave. We did not touch anything in the room, but they were not willing to offer any refund (not even a small partial amount.) This was a horrible experience for us and we felt like the staff treated us like we had a naughty child, even though our 5 year old has very high needs autism and is practically non verbal. A bit more compassion towards our situation wouldve been appreciated, as we did really want to stay, but left due to situations out of our control. You would think that given our situation, they wouldve had a bit more leniency towards us. We ended up lost for suitable ommodation options and this resulted in us having to drive back to christchurch in the middle of the night. I also noticed that there was no lift. This is probably the most least accessible hotel i have ever come across and i would not recommend it to anyone with any health problems or disabilities.

Reception staff was difficult to communicate with. Fire doors leading to the main entry exit were locked and no staff were on the premises.

Reception was not the friendliest. Price is over priced for the condition of the room. Room did not have a good smell. Cleanliness was ok. Could be better.

The serving staff in the restaurant were also friendly and helpful. The evening meal (lamb shank) was delicious! I had no room for dessert! The Continental Breakfast selection was excellent and delicious. I used the pool facilities and the spa pool. I slept really well.

Staff friendly and super helpful. Problem with our room was sorted quickly.

A little dated but a minor issue as the room and hotel are very clean, great beds, the staff were very friendly and helpful. We will certainly stay again

Staff were very lovely and professional. There was a small room mix up but it was quickly sorted and they very kindly put us in a larger room. Overall the whole place was very tidy and well maintained. Also, the shower pressure was fantastic! Would happily choose to return again.

On the main road but not busy. Very easy to find. The room was comfortable and clean.

Property is clean and room was of a good size, however, it is on a main railway and highway. It is also quite a distance from other dining options.

Had overnight stay in twin double bed room. Bed springs failing so lumpy in places. Bathroom sliding door very unstable. OK for short stay. The Hotel is however quite a way from Greymouth centre. To far to walk

Too far out of central Greymouth to walk. But close to the beach and right beside the cemetery which is kind of interesting.

Overall I would recommend this hotel. I was only there one night whilst passing through. I noted I could see the sea once outside. It had an open feeling despite being just off the main road I did not notice any noise

Breakfast buffet was delicious, a shame that they tell you the restaurant is available at night but don't tell you that you need a booking to eat there.

Room was beautiful only thing is cant get breakfast or dinner there on weekend or public holiday only found this out when in room going through book there shower wasn’t great

Property was OK but as I said extremely poor dining service waited 65mins for our main & another 20 min for dessert.

The kitchen was closed for the whole weekend. We had no where to eat Friday night and no breakfast Saturday morning!

Disappointed by facilities, asvertised as having restaurant and breakfast available, but restaurant not open at weekends.

Had dinner at Jacobs grill. Far and away the best food I have had in Greymouth. The breakfast buffet was good too :)
