Great location we used the Hereford car parking building to park our rental car which was organised through the hotel. We enjoyed their buffet breakfast. We also had dinner their one night the person on duty was very personable and friendly he makes a very good gin and tonic 😁 staff at the hotel were all very friendly and approachable. We were their for 7 nights and will be back next time we are in Christchurch.

Great spot in CBD and on the list of many tour pickups. Having laundry on-site (paid) is a plus. Room was cozy but just what I wanted - simple, functional, comfortable. Would stay again.

BreakFree hotel is next to Lululemon shop on the main shopping streets. We managed to park our car right in front of the hotel overnight without having to pay the night parking since we arrived after 10pm in Christchurch. Next morning - we paid an hr parking since the charge started from 9am. We had 3 rooms booked in different configurations. 1 was really tiny without windows so it was impossible to open the luggage. 2nd room was 2 single beds and also tiny. My 3rd room has a big bed, tiny windows. The bedsheets on my bed - had many hairs. Hairs of different types. As it was late, I brushed it off without complaints. Toilet was a challenge as it was a small cubicle and I was tiny at 5ft 1 only ! Breakfast was typical but the coffee machine was not very good. Overall it is a modest budget priced hotel.

The downstairs restaurant has a vibe and great food! The rooms were cosy but asking a customer to pay extra to have a window view of the parking lot is a joke. I couldn’t even open it as the blind had no security feature where I could look out and nobody look in. They do have a nice gym, very modern.

Ideal in the heart of Christchurch. Compact room had everything and was perfect as a short stay accommodation . Restaurant downstairs was handy and 24hr reception worked a treat.

Accomodation was generally good & peaceful though I felt there was a catch when I was told the room I had initially booked for had no windows & was then offered an upgrade with a window that costed a bit more. Hotel parking was a bit expensive at $25.00 a night when ParkMate nearby was charging just $14.00.

Right in the middle of the city and shopping lanes. Everything needed in walking distance including the riverside markets. Laundry was super easy to use and staff were super helpful and friendly. Will definitely be back again.

I checked in late between 9.30-10.00pm, went to hop in the bed and pull the blanket back, only to find out the bed look slept in. The sheets were muffled and not tucked in correctly. I felt like I was in someone's room which made the whole experience feel dirty. So disappointed. The only reason for not giving one star was because of how quickly the staff rectified the situation and placed me in a different room. Sad really ....

I bet this was a very cool hotel a few years ago, however it hasn’t aged super gracefully. The frosted glass pod style bathroom is neat, however not ideal if you desire maximum privacy while doing your business. I can only describe the cleanliness of the bathroom as “ok” as the shower showed a significant amount of mildew in the corners and the frosted glass walls definitely had not been wiped completely clean for some time. The high traffic areas of the carpet were discolored, and the lighting was a little wonky. Though it has some shortcomings the location is fantastic, the bed was very comfortable, and the downstairs bar/bistro is decent. Decent place for a short stay, but it’s affordable for a reason.

The stay is in a very handy location. The staff are friendly, and the compact rooms are mostly comfortable and make an excellent use of space. However, I'd recommend taking earplugs, as the vents within the rooms are quite loud and are irritating when trying to sleep.

Let me start by saying what's great about this property, the location and the staff. Unfortunately, the hotel's AC/ACMV system has a mind of its own that ruined the experience profoundly. The first night, it near explodes at 4:30am and despite the hotel (apparently) servicing it the same day, the second night's result was replacing the loud noise with a low drone that even earplugs couldn't block out. Turning it off wasn't an option as the windows don't open and even cutting off the power to the room by removing the key card doesn't deactivate/reset the ACMV which is on 24/7. Losing 2 nights sleep after a hideously long flight truly ruined my stay in CHC. Thus unfortunately, the poor rating overall.

Interior rooms are small but have everything you need. Staff were all very friendly and professional. Breakfast was well stocked and had good choices. Internet wifi speed was very slow generally <3MBS is not good enough for a hotel wifi service.

The roof vent in my room made a real loud humming noise. I went to the front desk (with a recording of it) and was given another room straight away plus a free drink for the inconvenience! Second room was awesome. So quiet. Great service. Would definitely stay here and recommend it to others.

It’s ok. Room was very small. Staff was fine but it felt forced—like maybe not a great place to work. Thing that annoyed me was them wanting to charge me $10 for an 11AM checkout and $20 for noon. If circumstances are such they can’t give a late checkout, fine. But don’t nickel and dime me for something that’s costless to you

Booking in was fine. I was having a nap when another guest was given my room and walked in. That was unacceptable. As a result my room card was cancelled so had to reactivate that at reception as I couldn’t get back in my room. They then tried to bill me the next day for items the other guest had purchased. Very poor. Do better!

On my first evening, I noticed an issue with the toilet - it constantly made a dripping sound that was quite maddening when trying to sleep. I told the front desk, in hopes that they could send maintenance to fix it, but as it was the start of the weekend, I was told that might be a while, so instead they just offered me a new room. I was impressed by their commitment to do right by me — it would have been much easier for them to just call maintenance and leave it for Monday.

This lovely hotel is conveniently located for those without a car. It is 5 min walking distance to the Intercity bus stop, and 5-10 min to walk to the first tram station. Many restaurants are nearby, also approximately 10 min walking distance, and there is a restaurant on site. The breakfast buffet, although not that big, had quite a few items to choose from. With no kitchen in the room, having breakfast available was fantastic. I also was grateful to use the luggage storage facilities on my last day.

Great hotel in central Christchurch, very handy to shops and restaurants, everything within walking distance. The bus exchange is a block away which makes it easy to get to the hotel. Hotel staff are very friendly and helpful.

The hotel is very convenient within the CBD. Also close to the bus interchange as well. The room is very well designed with space conservation. Only drawback is that there is no place to move around in the room. If the room is only intended for sleeping purpose then it's comfortable and clean.

Minimalist room with everything you need and not much else. Entirely functional, clean, convenient. For the price it’s just perfect. WiFi didn’t work in my room but didn’t inquire as it works perfectly well in the lobby. Hotel conveniently located in Christchurch shopping district, within walking distance of everything you might want to see in the center.

I would like to suggest a change to the system for the continental breakfast. The coffee and hot water were both cold and when I asked for the mine to be reheated-the staff member obliged. Following me was another person and then anther went up to the expresso machine to have theirs reheated. I would have thought that the cold coffee and water would have been replaced straight away. Also the standard of the coffee was not really what I would have expected- more suited to a workers canteen. I found the staff were very obliging-especially Sophie who helped me navigate the technologies of the room.

I love this hotel. The staff is the best. The location is awesome, right in the heart of the city. I like the bar and the restaurant too. The rooms are small, but perfectly designed; like a cruise ship cabin in the middle of the city. I look forward to staying here whenever I am in Christchurch. Cheers.
