I liked the location, close to downtown and centre city. I liked the price and the photos. However you get what you pay for. Very limited parking(it also cost $20), old building, the rooms are updated, clean and cozy enough. But the lobby and halls are could use some tlc. The walls are also very thin, even the exterior walls you could hear everything outside as well as from other rooms. Don’t go there if you’re expecting a 5 star hotel. I would probably stay here again if I was looking for a cheaper stay in the city.

Absolute Hole. Do not stay here. Had to drag our suitcases up 3 floors. No windows in room. A/C barely worked. Single ply TP and hallway smelled like urine.

It says free parking, but they only have 6 parking spots for probably 8 times as many rooms; no parking is available on the streets used by neighbouring homeowners. 20-minute walk to the nearest parkade down at Scotia Square mall.

Room was small but clean, bed was comfy. Staff were friendly and helpful with our bags. You can hear most things in the hallway. Cons: no elevator and no public bathroom. Location was superb. Hot spot for locals. Food and drinks all within wallking distance. Quiet neighborbood and felt safe. Coming from Vancouver BC... felt like commercial drive. Would stay again and i would recommend folks to check out. Every local we ran into said "thats a good area".

Not knowing the area it was in a rundown neighbourhood. Inadequate parking available, high steep stairs. No tv available. No cable and not told how to connect to the Chromecast and staff was just adequate but not overly friendly.

There is no parking, and when we asked the front desk lady where the nearest parking is, she told us to double check the sign out front. Which said 15min parking. We ended up having to park avout 10min walk away from the inn.

Our room was disgusting. You could feel the dirt on your feet when walking in the room, our bathtub was full of mold. There was dust, dirt, grime and hair everywhere. The a/c buttons were broken & wall outlets were hanging from the lamp cords however the front desk staff were very friendly & it was a convenient location as we were staying to attend a concert @ garrison grounds. The location was also near lots of good food!

The hotel is rundown, which wouldn't be bad if it was clean, but it looks like the carpets, walls, toilet, sink, etc. haven't been cleaned in years. The AC was dirty too and so loud, I couldn't sleep all night. I would never stay at this hotel again.

I found mouse droppings in my room after my first night there!! My room had a mouse deterent device which I only noticed after I saw the droppings. I was not comfortable staying another night even though they offered a different room. Front Desk would not offer me a refund when I went to check out early due to a prepaid room booking. Front desk implied I may have attracted mice due to my having food or drink in my room (which I did not). Overall, I was very displeased with the handling of this and ended up paying double because I moved hotels.

Hotel was old and dirty - pee around the toilet and mould in showers. Old clunking air conditioner so loud couldn’t sleep, water damage on windows and orange 1970 blinds shower leaked water out around toilet - worst place I ever stayed in my life . Supposed to have a queen bed but was only a double. Pillow was flat and comforter was old cheap kids comforter - so bad - never again. Also no elevators and dragged suitcases up 4 flights of stairs with no assistance offered and no maid service - had to put our garbage outside the door and request towels at the front desk. Drunk homeless people sleeping outside the hotel shouting all night

The room's furniture should be dumped and replaced with maybe IKEA furniture for a clean modern look. the hallway's wall need a complete new bright paint job. the hall carpets whould be steam cleaned or replaced. TV seervice would be also nice in each room. Noisy fridge.

The location was great. It's in north end of Halifax, and it's close to everything - bars, pubs, cafes and restaurants. However, as other reviewers said, the wall is extremely thin and it's not so comfortable to find peace in the room. You hear the door slamming every time other guests come back, hear they talk as there are pretty big gap at the bottom of the door. It's a good option if you're looking for something close to downtown on a budget. But if you look for restful night, this is not for you.

This is a great location near downtown, plenty to do just outside the door. The building is worn and sound travels easily through the walls. There is no local TV available, only casting. If I'm traveling solo I would stay there again, probably not if I were with a partner. Adequate accommodations at a good price point.

This was a tough place to stay for four nights. There is no coffee maker in the room.or anywhere in the hotel. The bed was poor. There was no desk and chair in the room to work at. It was noisy at night. You can hear everything going on below and across the hall.

The place is quite old but once you get over that it was not bad at all. Bathroom was renovated, the room was small but fine. They have no parking. The room had a nice microwave and a very nice mini fridge. The tv has no cable but there is a chrome cast. I would stay there again.

The rooms themselves were clean, small, but clean. Area was very nice. No TV- did not know that in advance. Main issue- constant door slamming and heavy items being dragged and dropped. The whole floor was shaking from 9 pm till after midnight both nights. I think the place also has apartments for rent- and think what we heard was someone moving in or out.

Terrible Experience - Avoid at All Costs If I could give zero stars, I would. The Commons Inn in Halifax was an absolute nightmare from start to finish. The facilities are outdated, filthy, and poorly maintained. The room smelled like mildew, the sheets were questionable at best, and the bathroom was barely functional. But the worst part of the experience was the staff, particularly a young Asian male who works there. His attitude was appalling—rude, dismissive, and completely unprofessional. He acted like guests were an inconvenience, rolling his eyes at every question and refusing to offer any sort of assistance. His hostility and arrogance were completely out of place in the hospitality industry. I’ve stayed in budget accommodations before, but this place took the cake for being downright disrespectful and disgusting. Do yourself a favor and stay literally anywhere else.

Price was right but you get what you pay for I guess. Convenient location. Lots of nice small eateries near by. No customer service or house keeping. No parking except on street at night and the night I arrived was street cleaning night so I wound up paying fine and staff didn't even mention it. Building was noisy, and bed not attached to wall kept on moving everytime I sat on the edge. Not what it use to be, I think new owners and they are cutting way back with our dropping their $$$.

We spent two nights there. The hotel is in the downtown area of Halifax- very close to everything. There was construction going on, however, and there was no parking available. Parking on the streets proved to be a bit tricky. The TV was practically not working as a TV and we were not able to connect it to internet either. Otherwise, the room was clean and the staff was very helpful and friendly

The hallways were dirty. The room did not get picked up or cleaned each day. Our waste basket was overflowing. The service was awful at this hotel. They don't use cable they use chrome cast. No one from the desk would come up and help us set it up so that we could use the tv. There is a shelf located above the sink which prevents you from bending over the sink when brushing your teeth. We were there when Tropical storm Lee was approaching. We wanted to check out a day early to avoid being in the area when the storm hit. They would not provide us with a refund. There is only street parking for your car. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Stayed for 4 nights. Had to ask for fresh towel set after the second night and was able to receive one towel and 2 face cloths. As a last choice then maybe be able to stay at this location.

I would encourage you to ignore most (if not all) of the negative reviews. This was a perfect place for a short stay. Contrary to what others have said, it was clean, quiet and comfortable. The staff was extremely pleasant and efficient. The building is old, but definitely not decrepit. It was decently maintained. You don't really get many amenities, but counterpoint: adjust your expectations. If you're realistic about what you're getting, which is a basic place to stay at night while you spend your days doing, you know, touristy Halifax stuff, you won't be disappointed. I'd happily stay here again.

If you’re just looking for a spot to sleep, this is a great option. Room was clean and bed was comfortable. Staff were great. So convenient to walk downtown and explore the city. Great little area and fantastic restaurants right around corner. Will be back next year!

The parking was hard to find, which entrance to use was hard to find. There were a lotnof undesirable people around the neighborhood, such as prostitutes and street people. I wouldn't stay there again.

A fun little pub right next-door, a great deli right across the street and a great coffee shop just up the street a block we’re all great. We walked to the citadel and then downtown so very convenient for the downtown Halifax sightseeing.

The motel is quite rundown but it was clean enough and quiet. The location is close to restaurants and other commercial establishments but you have to be aware of your surroundings. Lots of street people in this area and we were assaulted a block away. This is not the motel’s fault, of course. It’s just a sketchy area.

Im not sure what the one star reviews were talking about onkine but this property has lots of great things going for it! Its basic but linen was spotless and the room was pretty clean (maybe a dust over needed on unused areas). Staff were great and they held our luggage after check out. There is no elevator so be orepared to drag bags up stairs and there is no wheelchair accessibility. The location is fantastic, walkable to downtown with many cafes, restaurants and pubs in both directions that truly impressed. Try The Brown Hound next door for kid friendly, superb fries and Lukes across the road for breakfast! 15-20 min walk to the wharf was great! Would recommend for anyone seeking simple accommodation, not fussed about new paint jobs and wanting location!

Contrary to many other reviews, I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised here. Clean room, friendly front desk clerk. Neighbourhood is a little questionable however, I felt safe. Parking was a little tough to find though. Two minute walk at most. Stayed for two nights. Good pizza place around the corner.
