The room was ok, the bed was comfortable, tea & coffee making supplies were good. The area is quite noisey & there was too much light getting in through the curtains. The tap fittings in the shower were in poor condition, though the shower worked well & there was plenty of hot water. There is no bar or restaurant. For the price & centeral location, it was satisfactory.

The Hotel was very run down. Broken sink in bathroom There was No Brasserie as described on the Web site: so breakfast had to be eaten out every morning. Young man on Desk on our arrival. Not very welcoming or informative. Lady members of staff much more helpful.

Art Deco property with many of the original features still providing excellent service. Everything is provided for a decent stay in a basic level of comfort. Surrounding area is quiet at night, and the City centre is pretty much on the doorstep - everything you need is within walking distance. It would be nice to see this property renovated to bring back its former lustre - it is living history :-) The in-house restaurant wasn't available whilst I was staying, but the local area is not short of eateries, so you won't be short of dining options. Very helpful and pleasant staff.

The room and facilities in the room were adequate. The building is not a hotel anymore and most of the areas are closed- off it’s realty only an accommodation block at best. I felt the price was excessive for what you were getting, just a bed for the night, also no wifi. Although the location was good there are other places with similar location with cheaper rates.

The room is very small and old. They have only one staff member, the bed is extremely uncomfortable, and too soft in the middle same with the pillow feels old. The only good thing about this accommodation is its central location, allowing you to explore the city on foot. However, be mindful that there is no parking available, and you’ll need to pay $37 at Wilson Parking and walk. It’s not recommended if you’re looking for a comfortable stay or if you have a car. This place is only suitable for those relying on public transport and with if you are in budget.

There was black mould on the bathroom ceiling and a damp smell in the reception area. There was a bucket that looked like it was collecting water on the stairs. I probably wouldnt stay here again. The bed and sheets appeared clean.

3 star hotel my a**. Straight out of a horror movie, it's most likely on the lower end of a 2 star rating. Restoration is needed, which will clearly never come. Between the carpet, the walls and the windows I don't know what was dirtier. However, the cleanliness of the ensuite bathroom was on point, as were the sheets.

While I was expecting super-basic since I paid around $70 USD, I wasn't exactly prepared for peeling paint, shredded carpet, and a slightly musty smell accompanied by what looked like pink mildew stains on the shower curtain. I've stayed in very old hotels before with peeling paint, so that alone wouldn't bother me, and the shredded/torn carpet on the stairs was whatever, but the mildew stains and musty scent weirded me out a bit because I worried that the place may not be entirely clean. There weren't any bugs that I could see, so that's good, but I'm not sure I can entirely recommend this hotel. It gave the overall sense that it was NOT in good repair. The front desk staff were very nice, though, so that's a plus, and I was only staying for one night, so I decided to deal with it. If I was staying for longer, I would have definitely gone somewhere else.

As most other people who have reviewed this place have said it’s clean but old, staff are friendly if you just want a really cheap bed for the night in the middle of the city it’s great. If you want somewhere nice to stay I would pick somewhere else

Blood on walls and curtains, hairs on sheets and vanity. Otherwise it was as I expected, which was run-down and very basic, which was reflected in the price. Good location, and front desk staff were great. They don’t provide housekeeping services on weekends.

The Criterion was Ok -- serviceable. The location was central, in an area with fast-food restaurants, and with walkable access to the downtown area. There is one small place near the hotel that is slightly seedy, but I didn't feel threatened. The hotel has seen better days, but again, is serviceable. The bathroom was nice, the TV worked, beds OK, although I didn't see any heat source in the room (fortunately, it wasn't quite cold enough to require heat). The main drawback was that the wi-fi didn't reach to the third floor where our room was, so we had to go down to the lobby to do e-mail and messaging. I believe the first floor may have had wi-fi, but we were on the third floor. The late-night McDonald's was just a half-block away, which compensated for any inconveniences for jet-lagged travelers from LAX, 21 jet-hours away plus layover time!

Very noisy at night . Thin walls. People up and down the hallway talking and singing. We were freezing cold with a thin blanket and flat pillows. Bed super uncomfortable. Had about an hours sleep . Never ever stay there again.

We pick the criterion because its cheap for a 1 night stay and in a good location but its extremely noisy and if not in an updated room, extremely worn out. We had a leaking tap all night but it wasn't worth asking to change rooms as we got in very late and flew out the next day for work. 2 people in the next door room got in, in the early hrs, and were so loud we couldn't get back to sleep. The sound proofing is terrible. In saying that though we probably will return if we need a cheaper stay in perth as a layover for another flight. They have an 11am check out time which is better then some! A didi or uber is quite reasonable from and to the airport from there also. Its actually in a really good position close to all you need.

The Criterion has seen better days. They are renovating it, but not quickly. The rooms are plain and have some wear and tear to them. However, it is clean, there is a refrigerator, the water was hot and the pressure was good, it is on a quiet street, the staff are there 24 hrs a day (although there is no housekeeping on the weekends), and it is convenient to everything. It is also economical. which is why I booked it in the first place. If you just want a safe, quiet, clean place to rest your head, I recommend it highly. If you want a luxury room with a minibar to hang out in, go somewhere else.

The Criterion is my go to accommodation when passing through Perth. Convenient to the CBD and Quay, and a quick Uber to the airport. Despite being an older building, I always find it clean, plus the bonus of helpful and friendly staff.

The staff on the night of my stay, and the next morning, were amazing. So friendly and helpful! A room is just a room, it's the people who make the stay. The room was fine, but the two staff members made it memorable for me. I'll stay there again.

Torn Carpet,strong terrible smell, very thin Blanket for Perth winter, we were hard to sleep, we turned heat on but barely feel it. The worst thing when we checked in august 14, the receptionist (young Chinese male who can speak Chinese)was very rude and unfriendly, he even didn't look at us when we asked questions, he seemed was not willing to say anything to us, very unprofessional attitude, very unpleasant experience in this motel!!!

Noisy drilling very early in morning. TV not working properly. Air Con not working. Seedy, damp, feel to hotel. Always locked front door. Very snappy rude night staff man. Shouted at me during check out. Great place to stay if you are a drug user. AVOID.

Clean room in an old building. Excellent location. We felt unsafe as there were a lot of rough people wandering outside the entrance of the hotel. Hotel entrance is always locked and entry by access card.

Super location. Easy walk to train, jetties, and all down town sites. Small grocery store next door. Room cleaned very well daily. Only tea/coffee making in the room, with a small fridge. Would be awesome to have a small microwave particularly as there's the shop next door.

Cheap city hotel in CBD, opposite town hall and library, one block from a shopping mall and arcades. Close to concert hall, short walk. Red cat free bus is 100m away. Rooms are okay, fridge with milk and tea coffee supplies. Large bath towels, clean looks to be relatively new bathroom. Staff are always friendly and greet you on the way in or out. There is a $250 fee to credit card for damages, refund instigated on check out. Never had an issue with refund, just be aware the fee is charged. Cafes around, never had an issue over many visits with security in the area, normal precautions advised.
