If you go on vacations to any place with a pool , you are supposed to enjoy from it at any time, but that pool is open only from 9:00 to 5:00PM which is wrong in my opinion. I didn't see the hotel occupancy at more than 30 percent , the pool was almost always not being used by clients ib addition the prices at this hotel were exorbitantly high specially at restaurants, the rooms were ok , as well as cleaninnes but in general I would never return to this place because I did not enjoy my stay there!

Has a lot of amenities. There’s a bar, pool, souvenir shop, gym, and two restaurants. However, the front desk just checks you in and you have to figure your way around the hotel or ask. The property is well kept.

This property is only about two miles from downtown San Jose but is quiet, with a nice lobby, excellent amenities including a large landscaped pool, health room with workout equipment, jacuzzis, steam and sauna, outdoor tennis courts and secure parking. An urban oasis.

The room was clean and nice, though we didn't have hand towels or a bath mat in the room. It was late so I didn't request them but I'm sure they would have brought some to us. The sauna was nice but the hot tub was a disappointment. The water was low and not hot enough.

Extremely clean rooms and facility. You can tell there is a high standard in hygiene. The staff was always eager to help with questions, especially the manager in the Aurora Cafe, I don’t remember his name but he had a moustache. He was so pleasant and professional. Also our hotel bus driver Gonzalo.

We had a wonderful stay at Barceló San José overall, with a few small hiccups. At check-in, our room had multiple entrances but we only got one key per door, two keys each would have been more convenient. Also, though our booking included premium lounge access, we weren’t given the key until the last day after asking, so we missed out on most of that benefit. The shower design could also be improved since water easily spills outside. That said, everything else was excellent. The hotel is spotless, far cleaner than many luxury hotels I’ve stayed in across Los Angeles or Las Vegas. The décor is tasteful, the grounds are beautifully maintained, and even small details are cared for. The air conditioning wasn’t restricted like in many hotels, which made our room very comfortable. The staff was consistently friendly and helpful from the lobby to restaurants to security. Once we did access it, the premium lounge was a great perk with snacks and drinks. The breakfast buffet was a highlight, delicious gallo pinto, eggs, and many other options, making mornings a treat. Pricing was transparent with no hidden fees; even transportation was included free, unlike other hotels in San José ( Balmoral ). Our balcony view was also beautiful, adding to the experience. Despite the check-in issues, this hotel exceeded our expectations in cleanliness, service, and value. I’ll definitely be back and will recommend it to friends.

Pick up service at the airport, to the hotel, needs to be more flexible! My flight arrive on time and their pick as per their new hours I would have had to wait for 2 hours before they would show up. Had to take a taxi to the hotel and pay for it. Also their service from the hotel to the airport was changed and had to get up an hour earlier to be able to use their service. According to them the "new administration changed the service hours".

1 complaint is the awful shuttle experience I had upon arrival. Was reserved on 2:30pm shuttle from SJO, but spent over 2 hrs & numerous unanswered calls to front desk, I was repeatedly told only via email the driver is "15 minutes away". This went on every 15 minutes for 2+ hrs! I didn't leave the designated pick-up area to avoid missing it the shuttle. I literally stood outside the airport (no seats for waiting), w/out a bathroom break, water, w/out applying my bug spray (very much needed during rainy season when mosquitoes are bad), & w/out air conditioning. I was tired, frustrated, & received false information for over 2 full hours from front desk staff that refused to answer my calls or call me back, but would only email me instead. I would've caught an Uber/Taxi, but was being consistently told that the driver was only 15 mins. I was told to wait under the Hotel Shuttle sign or the driver would leave & that he was in a gray/silver minivan. Over 2 hrs later, at 4:38pm, driver arrived in a dark navy BLUE van, & stopped at the airport exit doors, NOT at the Hotel Shuttle sign over 200 feet away. The advertised "20 min ride" to Barcelo was actually an HOUR & a half! Staff claimed no control of traffic, but my point was they live there, know daily traffic patterns & rush hours, they said it's normally heavy, so don't falsely say it's 20 mins. as if that is normal. Don't threaten $30 penalty for passengers missing the van, when no credit given to passengers that wait 2 hrs!

It was a 45 minute wait to check in and even at 4pm our room was not ready had to go wait at restaurant and when we came back waited another 20 minutes for keys only one desk clerk working and he checked our party of 10 into 3 king rooms even though we booked doubles, had to come down and wait again….just overall poor staffing levels

Front desk reception crew held the ID of my girlfriend and basically treated her like she was a criminal. They were rude, dismissive and totally unlike any other experience in Costa Rica or at other Barcelo's. I tried Barcelo again on September 18, and once again the front reception gave horrible service. Why those employees still have jobs is beyond me. As much as I love the location and property amenities, I am DONE. I will find OTHER options.

I was quite happy with my stay at Barceló in San José. It is a good-sized resort that I was able to book for around $100/night. There are multiple restaurant options on site, the gym is very complete with lots of equipment, and there is a lush and very green area with walking paths behind the hotel. Good location, centrally located in the city. They do not have a hotel car that will take you to nearby locations but while in CR, Uber never took more than 5 minutes to get to me no matter where I was. The furniture in my room was a bit dated. That is not typically a concern for me but may be for some. Breakfast buffet is OK, nothing special but solid enough

Need and nice hotel with good vibes. Standard room are well furnished and spacious. Close to highway has uses as well as minuses (noise). Nice fitness area. We had to catch early morning flight. Free shuttle was nice. Packed breakfast was made available. Limited dining options outside of the hotel.

The hotel is overall decent, though the VIP lounge is very limited and, most of the time, had no food or drinks available. There’s nothing within walking distance, so it’s not a walkable location. I requested water from the front desk as it was missing from my room, and while I was told it would be sent right away, unfortunately it never arrived. Staff interactions were mixed. Some were very friendly and helpful, while others were less so.

Very disappointing experience, especially for a hotel of this category. The Wi-Fi in my room was unacceptable. I was travelling for work and needed a stable internet connection, but it disconnected roughly every three minutes. Microsoft Teams calls were constantly interrupted or dropped, making it extremely difficult to work properly. Reliable Wi-Fi should be a basic standard in a hotel that caters to business travellers, and unfortunately Barceló San José failed badly in this regard. The soundproofing in the suite was equally disappointing. Despite staying in a suite, the room did not provide an adequate level of noise insulation. From around 5:00 a.m., the traffic from the nearby highway was clearly audible and continuous, making it very difficult to sleep or rest. These are not minor inconveniences. Poor internet connectivity and inadequate soundproofing significantly affected both my ability to work and my quality of rest. Given the price and category of the hotel, I expected a much higher standard.

Beautiful property not too far from the San Jose Airport. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Common areas are lovely. Paid for breakfast was generous with lots of delicious options. Friendly and professional staff. My only challenge was the free shuttle was challenging to book. Had to arrange through email that I was never successfully able to reach despite trying numerous times. Ended up taking a cab which was OK but would have been nice to be able to take advantage of the shuttle. Nice little spa just outside the hotel. We enjoyed a wonderful, reasonably priced massage. Hotel staff graciously allowed a late check out. All and all a wonderful value and we are very happy with our stay.
