Urban Green Hotel & Suites

We drove ourselves to the hotel and at first we weren't sure about parking but as we approached the what appeared to be the hotel parking, the garage door automatically opened for us. Parking is very tight but free in downtown San Jose. Downtown is very walkable from the hotel with lots of restaurant options and sights. Breakfast was "buffet style" but served...nothing to rave about. Sauna and gym were not working during out visit.

There are absolutely no windows in the rooms unless you pay extra. The ceilings are uncomfortably low if u get a room on a higher floor and there’s no proper ventilation so you will spend your first night congested and stuffy and uncomfortable. Our first room had no microwave and on the second night, bugs climbed up from the drains and crawled all over my hygiene items. Thankfully, the staff was nice enough to upgrade me to a better room after that and I was thankful that that one had a window. The elevator was also barely functional and quite frankly very scary to operate. It says there’s a spa, but it costs between 30-100 dollars a session depending on what you want done. It is not complimentary and there’s also no pool. This should not be considered a 4 star hotel. The location is quite literally horrendous but I only found out after my trip that San Jose is considered the “ghetto”. I learned from some locals that this area can be very dangerous and people will try to steal your phones. This hotel is an almost 30 minute drive from San Jose airport so it’s not really convenient. There’s a really amazing market next to it tho that made it a little worth it. If you have the opportunity, pick a different hotel our you will regret it. The staff are amazing but the hotel itself is… ick.

San Jose is a rough town. Hotel staff was grand in every way. Need more outlets near the bed. Spa, sauna and gym all closed!

That is NOT a parking lot. It’s the basement of the building and cars everywhere.

The hotel is older and could stand some safety repairs to access their restaurant, elevator, and rooms. They have removed what must have been 3-4 stairs and filled them in with a very steep dangerous narrow ramp which is not readily walkable. Current access is a safety hazard. Rooms are not generally accessible due to over-all stairs. My room had no window, no chair, no working refrigerator. It did have an AC unit which I did not need to use. It had a TV with some English programming. Hotel location is excellent in center of San Jose. Walking distance to Cathedral, Indoor Market, Jade Museum, Gold Museum, National Museum, National Theater.

Well to begin after checking in only one elevator worked and it is very slow, mattress was old with dent on one side, in bathroom the door would impede the use of toilet, shower did not have a door, so floor gets wet after showering, on my last day elevator was not working, so I had to go down the stairs with luggage, no one to help. Agents were helpful for the most part, room was clean, towels and sheets changed daily, the location good. I suggest hotel management take care of this problems and would be a very good place to stay.

Great breakfast, spacious rooms, parking was very tight in the underground area. Location is awesome.

IT WAS VERY NICE BUT ONLY ONE ELEVATOR WAS WORKING. WE WENT TO THE SAME ROOM AND THE SHOWER DRAIN THAT DIDN'T WORK WELL WAS AS WAS 9 MONTHS BEFORE AND THE LEFT SINK FAWCET STILL HAD PROBLEMS CLOSING.

This is a nice, modern, and spacious hotel centrally located in the heart of San Jose. It is very walkable & there are a lot of shopping and dining options within a couple of km. It has an underground parking garage that is free to hotel guests, but it is pretty tight, so it's difficulty to go in & out if you're driving an SUV, and impossible to access if you're driving a large van, as was in my case. They said the max. height was 2 meters, but it's actually less than that. What I totally detest is the way they interacted with us at the front counter when checking in, and their unreasonable and bad faith interpretation of their policies on number of guests "included with the reservation". We were a large group, had reserved a total of 4 rooms. One of the rooms was for 2 adults and 2 children, and the other 3 rooms were reserved for 1 adult & 2 children per room. The rates for ALL 4 rooms were the same, regardless if the room had 4 guests or 3 guests. When we arrived to check in, we had an extra child, so making 2 of the 4 rooms having 4 guests and the other 2 rooms with 3 guests each. The agent at the reception argued that because we had not "declared" the additional child, we had to pay an add'l guest fee. I told him that had we listed 4 guests instead of 3 in the room, the rate would have been the same, because 1 of the rooms we reserved had 2 adults and 2 kids originally listed and the rate was the same as those w/ 3 guests. He insisted we pay the fee or look for other..

Amazing front desk and breakfast Staff. So professional and welcoming. Everything was spotless! The entire Hotel was extremely clean - Spotless!! Breakfast was fabulous and cooked to order. Would absolutely recommend this hotel. Loved the simple tranquility. It is truly the calm oasis in the heart of the city they promise. Close to market, bus station, and restaurants.

Nice, quiet & clean

The location was very near the center of city life! The staff friendly overall. The carpet in the hotel room was dirty though, and my family and I had an allergic reaction to the pollen and dust. Overall, adequate and clean in general. Unfortunately our room had no window so we felt sort of trapped...

The location of the hotel is good and the staff in the reception was friendly, but that’s the only good thing. The room that we had was not reachable by the elevator, and there was no one to help us with the luggage in the stairs. The room ceiling was almost my height, and the shower tub touched my hair. The carpet was stained, and the couch had a rupture.

Centrally located in San José. Clean modern hotel. Excellent staff and breakfast.

Nice ftont desk staff. Room had a/c on when I checked in. Room was clean and spacious.

Carpeting in the room was very old and smelly. They need to better clean/replace it.

This is not a 4 star property and Expedia should not advertise it as one. Period! I’ll start with the good. The staff are friendly and helpful, the free breakfast was adequate, and the bed was clean and comfortable. The location is in the city center area where you can go to shops and restaurants (walking) during the day only for safety issues. The gold museum and The Jade museum are both within walking distance and we’re interesting. There is a convenience store around the corner which had a decent stock of various items. Thankfully you can book excursions out of the city for the day so you can see the beauty of Costa Rica. Now for reality. Urban Green needs some updates. Housekeeping can only work with the equipment that they have the towels were clean, but they were old and frayed on edges and some had stains. The chair in the room had what appeared to be a burn mark and the furniture had little chips of paint out of them. The room air conditioner desperately needed a filter change. The bathroom was decent and clean but the shower was never hot enough. The hotel would be OK for a very brief stop over in San Jose but I wouldn’t recommend it for more than that.

Friendly and helpful staff, delicious breakfast, spacious suites and centrally located

The rooms were huge—much bigger than shown in the photos. Our suite was two levels with 1.5 bathrooms. The casino nightclub was noisy. The location is very convenient for walking to museums. The street was hectic but we felt safe walking around. The woman serving breakfasts was lovely.

Very well located hotel downtown. Huge rooms and comfortable beds. Nicely designed suite. Low ceilings i know but husband is 6ft and not bothered. Extremely friendly helpful staff and generous breakfast included

This definitely one of the most interesting accommodations I’ve ever stayed at. Not like most hotels the way it looks. We said on the 4th floor but our room did not have windows and had low ceilings. However it was really clean and comfortable. With a kitchenette. The bathroom had a walk in shower. The staff were really friendly and helpful. And we really liked our free welcome drink. The food at the restaurant was also good. The location was right downtown and close to shopping and restaurants. I would say again.

Hôtel très bien placé en centre ville avec parking (important car centre ville très pris). Belle chambre en duplex au format Suite mais sans fenêtre (attention, l'absence de fenêtre est mal identifié à la réservation car je n'aurais sans cela jamais réservé !) et la cuisine de la suite est inutile car sans aucun ustensile (pas de bol, d'assiette, de verre, de couverts). Petit déjeuner minimaliste de qualité moyenne dans un espace confiné et sans lumière du jour (comme la chambre !).

Excellent staff. Really decent looking rooms. My only issue was that I was in a room where there was an adjoining door and the other room could hear all my conversations and complained about the noise when I played a word game on my phone. Needs more insulation.

The location was in downtown close to many sites. However the room although large and clean had a very short ceiling. My husband is 6 feet tall. The room was maybe 6’5”. It felt very clostophobic. They should have said that the Room roofs are so short. It was crazy. Never saw such a thing. To make more rooms they halved the original tall ceilings to accommodate two rooms. As for breakfast. It was not a budget. They make eggs the way you like. But hotels usually have a more wide spread buffet with various fruits etc. A bit disappointed for sure. But it was clean and the staff nice. One note we arrived in the weekend. Downtown is dead quiet after 6 or 7 pm. Almost all stores closed. The only food places open were fast food places. No decent restaurants open to eat after 7 pm.

While the room was large, it was otherwise unremarkable. The lighting was too dim everywhere, but especially when trying to shave. The layout is odd, with intermediate floors between elevator stops, and the ceiling is only 6 and a half feet. Breakfast started too late for a tourist hotel - it should begin at 6:00, certainly no later than 6:30.

Stayed for 2 nights and this was my first time in San Jose. The area around the hotel was safe and bustling with activity. The room was modern, comfortable and everything worked. Breakfast was great and they have common areas on every floor. Great stay and great hotel and awesome staff!

A great choice if you want to discover San Jose. We felt safe and enjoyed the multiple options for dining and coffee in the central area of the city. Staff at reception were very nice and helpful. Breakfast is very good.

Overall, my experience at the Urban Green Hotel and Suites was unpleasant. The hotel is listed as 4 stars but it should be listed close to 2 stars. Stayed for 6 nights. Had an incident one night where one of the staff issued a room key to another customer (male) to my room. And around 1:30 am while I’m sleeping, I hear someone trying to get into my room. I woke up and my door was open by this man. I was so fearful and felt unsafe. The man seemed just as confused as me. Unfortunately, there was no door lock chain on the door because I had the standard room with no window and it apparent doesn’t come with it. Called the front desk and they apologized for the confusion. I had to ask for another room because I was so scared. I was given an upgrade with the door lock chain and a window. Not really much of an upgrade but ok. Area has a lot of homeless and sketchy people. Had a horrible stay. Breakfast was not good and the kitchen ladies monitor you and put a cap on how much coffee and juice you can get. My friend was told that she could only get two cups of coffee after they saw her getting a third cup. Staff are pleasant. Gym is a joke and a safety hazard. Hotel should be shutdown and renovated.

Great location for walkable access to sites and tours of downtown San Jose. Front desk staff was exceptionally helpful. Breakfast was delicious and breakfast staff friendly. Hotel room well appointed and nice layout with central common areas.

Your staff was Super-helpful during my 4 nights there….. Kendall, Rebecca, Genesis, Alejandro & David all helped me with logistics and reservations and general information. They were attentive, accurate, helpful & polite. Plus, they helped me with my fairly lame Español….

My reservation was for 2-persons….however they said it was for only one person and charged me $25 additional for 2nd person. The only staff members that were even friendly was the male desk clerk and the breakfast cook. All of the female desk clerks were very unfriendly!

Everything was fantastic about staying at Urban Green, from the delicious free breakfasts to the helpful staff. In the center of town, within walking distance to the museums, banks, restaurants and shops. I booked for five days and stayed fifteen, and will stay there next time I go to San Jose.

Excellent hotel for the price and very central to major downtown attractions such as the National Theatre and Jade Museum. The staff are wonderful and incredibly helpful. As it is in a major city and DT Central , I would recommend a taxi or Uber outside after 9pm.

The location was most convenient to all of the sights in downtown San Jose and walkable to many eateries and shops.

Located in the middle of downtown San Jose. About 5 blocks from the Central Market. Staff was great, they serve a nice breakfast in the morning, laundry available on site. Basic accommodations but served us well before and after our scheduled tour of Costa Rica. Easy to get around by foot or Uber(taxis also available) from the hotel. Don’t recommend walking at night after 7pm.

This hotel was great, hence the 5star ratings I gave,front desk staff very friendly, the room was huge, breakfast was great, parking onsite, only fits so many cars, we got lucky, only thing was the area… We only spent one night, and checked in at night, but driving to hotel the area did not look good, the next morning we got up early to drive to the half marathon and my husband was running and it was well pretty shady, so I was glad we didn’t venture out the night before but if you only need a place for one night or in and out of town, the place was great, they even had a steam room, which I definitely used

Convenient location. One minute walk to Plaza Culture. Comfortable room. Friendly staff, wish I had gotten the males name to give him a kudos to his boss. Bilingual staff. Good breakfast with friendliest staff. Gym only had small amount of equipment but used Smart Fit nearby for $13 USD each day pass. Beautiful common areas that look very nice. Comfy bed and cold air conditioning.

Main attractions minutes away. Área little dark and maybe dangerous after 7:00pm. Staff is very helpful and great customer service. Hotel clean, room and bathroom are big and comfortable. My second time in this hotel and I will stay again next trip.

Breakfast was the worst, with very few choices-and the few choices were the same for 5 days. Breakfast is such an important meal, they must do better!

O hotel tem uma fachada bonita em comparação às edificações vizinhas. A entrada do edifício não é agradável. O quarto que ocupei tinha problema para fechar a porta, problema para abrir e fechar a torneira da pia e faltava uma porta no box do banheiro. Café da manhã muito simplificado. Pouquíssimas opções de frutas e pães.

El personal de recepción fue muy amable, solamente estuvimos dos días ahí, el hospedaje incluía desayuno, pero los dos días teníamos que irnos más temprano antes del desayuno entonces nos prepararon dos lunch box para cuando uno tiene que salir más temprano que se me hace muy buena opción, porque es la primera vez que lo veo en un Hotel,, llegando el primer día, tuvimos un accidente y el personal del Hotel nos prestó instrumentos de primeros auxilios
