We've stayed here before so knew what to expect. Lovely property by the river and lake. Ev charging in car park. Very quiet, great accomodation and super breakfast. Top marks all round.

Great all-round experience. I would recommend having more EV charges and making them easier to use - as it was a bit tricky having to download an App, and get the 'names' of the chargers.

Had a very nice stay at the Moat House for a wedding. Food was excellent, plenty of parking around the vicinity and the views outside are incredible. My only gripes were the cutlery, glasses and plates were slightly dirty and the signage wasn’t very clear to navigate around the hotel, however the excellent staff certainly made up for this with their helpful manor. Wasn’t much in terms of facilities, certainly wouldn’t cater well to family’s or younger couples but very relaxing overall. Would certainly stay again for a do, or book for a venue. However wouldn’t stay for a random weekend getaway as there’s just not enough to do.

Very dog friendly and good sized room with a powerful shower.

On arrival I noticed they had loads of parking spaces which is always a bonus. The hotel is in nice countryside surroundings , check in was easy and the staff very friendly and informative. My room was very nice and a decent size with a decent size bathroom also, was very quiet making it easy to relax and sleep. Breakfast was excellent and again very friendly staff. I would definitely stay here again so highly recommended!!!!

Hotel is clean and the room is comfortable and well taken care of. Staff are friendly and helpful. The food was to a reasonable standard but the menu in the bar/restuarant was a bit limited; there was not one salad on the menu - which is what I really wanted. Also there is no gym at the hotel and with the snow yesterday going for a run in the cold and dark on narrow country lanes was not really an option.

Hotel was very nice staff were amazing. Bed super comfy bedding and pillows were awesome. My only grip is that its very much catered towards weddings but other than that a lovey stay.

Located in easy reach of the M6 The Moat House should be good for an overnight stay. Our first impression was let down in that the room allocated to us was unheated with no way of turning the radiator on. It was very cold. It seems that the heating is timed to come on periodically during the day and that the manager is the only person who can set this and the only person who knows what time it does come on. The receptionist did provide us with a free standing electric heater - which leads you to think this isn't an unusual occurrence. The restaurant has aspirations with a fancy but not very affordable menu. Not fast food but sadly not even quick enough food, a single course took an hour to be served. The breakfast, included in our room rate, was very good. There are lots of steps the hotel is probably not well suited to anyone with mobility problems. There was a large wedding party the night of our stay, which was largely kept to its own areas, but does put stress on the staff we felt.

Such a brilliant dog friendly hotel. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The food was also fantastic and dogs were allowed in the bar area.

Good staff and a nice hotel although we found the room quite dark and bathroom dated. However, it was clean and comfortable. Food in the lounge bar was very good. Parking good too and electric charge points available.

The overall hotel was very nice but there is a terrible problem with flies. In the restaurant, bar and even the rooms. I’m sure they could have done more to rectify this. Whilst dinning on the Friday it was really difficult to eat without flies landing on food. The fish and chips were not the best too. Even at breakfast we had to cover our drinks and plates due to a fly infestation

Mixed feelings about our stay. Firstly the lady on reception when we arrived was excellent and went out of her way to help us; she’s a credit to the hotel. In addition, we were allocated a nice room in a quiet area of the hotel exactly as we requested. Unfortunately things went a little downhill when we arrived at the restaurant for our dinner reservation as the restaurant supervisor was away elsewhere and were ignored by all staff on duty for approximately 5 minutes (it seemed a lot longer). When we mentioned this to the supervisor when she finally appeared she didn’t take our lighthearted feedback well. She wasn’t rude but she made sure we knew she wasn’t happy we’d had the audacity to comment on being ignored. Sadly we found the food quite ordinary and very over priced. Although we had ordered two drinks soon after being shown to our table they didn’t actually arrive until we had nearly finished our main course and we’d not been served our food particularly quickly. At the end of the meal we requested our bill and again we experienced a delay of 20 minutes before, after asking again, the bill finally arrived. On a more positive note breakfast was okay although we were surprised that a tray of dirty glasses was brought out for use with the selection of juices. The staff quickly replaced them when it was brought to their attention. Would we recommend or stay here again? Probably not but if we did we would definitely avoid the restaurant for dinner.

Our room had over bath shower not like the one we had booked. We asked for a room with a walk in shower as partner had new knee. Receptionist sorted this for us. The second room didn’t smell of dog. Unfortunately the sheets had spots of blood on - told reception on our way to dinner. Sheets were replaced and a discount of £20 was given. Good quality towels but one with a hole in. Bar staff were excellent and food was good.

Food, service and location were excellent, the only downside is the room was a little tired, the bathroom door needed badly repainted on the inside and had dirty handprints on the outside, which I easily wiped away. This only highlighted the lack of attention from the cleaning and maintenance depts., I would have flagged both on check out had the reception staff asked how my stay was, but no on asked. All fairly minor and wouldn't stop me staying again, but did take the shine of things a bit, especially as both issues had clearly been ignored, or accepted as OK

Long black hairs on bathroom floor , staff where brilliant , let down by breakfast when no came ti take our order , so left after having a pot of tea

Nice property in a lovely setting. It has a particularly bad problem with flies in the bar and restaurant; so challenging that it became impossible to eat within the building in the evening. A real shame as otherwise this meant for a comfortable stay. Sadly I wouldn’t return for this reason.

Lovely hotel, very clean and good surroundings

Beautiful setting with the canal and lake surrounding the property. Staff were friendly, parking was easy and check-in was painless. Our room was functional, if a little dated but had a strong musty smell which wasn't very pleasant. We only stayed for one night, but slept well as it was quiet and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was good, and the food overall was decent.

The room was spotless and very comfortable. All the staff were efficient, friendly and helpful. Although it was a very busy Saturday evening in the bar and restaurant, we had excellent and attentive service. The quality and presentation of our meal was exceptional. A thoroughly enjoyable stay.

Room 102. Conveniently located but far too noisy. Woken up at 4am by neighbours using the loo. Not acceptable. Nice bar area and good restaurant. If you have a choice, stay in the older part of the building.

Staff were all excellent blending professionalism with friendliness perfectly. We were upgraded to a lovely room overlooking the canal. Food and drink were both great!

The room was clean, spacious and staff were nice and helpful. The breakfast was good, with hot and cold options. The beds were fine, being a little hard for our comfort. Pillows also not our comfort. We did have some excellent service on having left an item in our room and they sent it on promptly. Overall a nice place to stay for our family of four, over two rooms.

Lovely hotel, friendly helpful staff and a great breakfast. However the bed mattress was old and very uncomfortable with loose protruding springs which led to a very poor nights sleep. Left the following morning more tired then when we arrived, which spoilt our weekend away!

Lovely hotel and very friendly staff. Only minor issue was that neither window in bedroom or bathroom shut properly and it was December with a bitterly cold wind. Luckily we are ok with a cooler room and just shut the curtains. We had a small dog with us and

The hotel is set in beautiful grounds. We stayed in room 119, it was beautifully decorated. I just wish that you could turn a light/lamp to really bright to make reading a book easier. The walls are thin, you can hear everything!! That being said i would stay here again.

Our seventh stay at the Moat House. So nice to see familiar faces as this shows the MH retains staff. Friendly reception staff, bar staff and attentive restaurant staff. A particular mention for Alex in the bar and Amy in the restaurant please. We were surprised on our return to the room on day 2 that it had not been serviced. We were told that we should have put a sign out requesting service. This was new to us and ought to have been mentioned on check in. We could not redeem our LP points on checkout as, apparently, we can only do this ‘at the till’. As everything went on one tab and we didn’t pay either at the bar or in the restaurant this appeared to be rather petty and irritating. Apart from the above of course we will stay again. The restaurant is wonderful with skilled chefs respecting the food and mindful of their customers.

Simple & quick to check in. Superb reception. Excellent "normal" food choices (subject to me being gluten-free). Friendly and helpful staff. Clean & fresh room & hotel. Lovely grounds & environs with interesting history. If we come back to the UK & are in this area, staying here again is a certainty.

Very poor nights stay. The staff (not the guest, the staff!) deemed it acceptable to slam doors and shout down the corridor to each other after 2300 and then again at 0700. Had quieter nights sleep at a Travellodge. When I asked why, they were apparently trying to fix the boiler…… Then fix it quietly so you don’t wake my young family at 0700 on a Sunday morning!

Great bar area and we ate from that menu rather than the main restaurant. Good quality staff throughout aside from the breakfast team who , unfortunately , were somewhat off the pace during all 3 days of our stay .

From check-in to checkout, the customer service was nothing short of exceptional. Every team member—from reception to the bar and restaurant staff—was warm, attentive, and genuinely helpful. The breakfast team went above and beyond, making mornings a real treat. Our room was incredible, with a stunning view of canal boats drifting by—an idyllic touch that made the stay even more special. We dined at the à la carte restaurant and were absolutely blown away. The meal was, without exaggeration, one of the best any of us have ever had. The four of us were dumbfounded by the quality, presentation, and attentive service. Simply delicious and unforgettable. Breakfast was equally impressive—fresh, flavorful, and served with genuine care. The beautiful surroundings added even more charm, with scenic walks around the ponds and canals creating a perfect countryside escape. We can’t wait to return. A truly memorable experience from start to finish

The Hotel is conveniently located by the M6 in a fabulous peaceful location with lakes, trees and a canal. It is modernised in a sensitive way with respect for its history and has superb photography displayed on the corridors. The staff present as friendly and very helpful. We enjoyed drinks and excellent food at very reasonable prices. Highly recommended.

Very nice hotel. Situated in countryside close to motorway. Great breakfast and outsude seating by lake.

Lovely setting next to a canal in the Village of Acton Trussel. close to Motorway (plus and minus as there is a little motorway noise outside) Staff are always friendly and helpful, it is always quiet and clean, convenient for Staffordshire

Brilliant stay at the Moat House and super convenient just off the M6 for us. Both reception and bar/ restaurant staff were so welcoming, friendly and accommodating for us with a young baby. Our evening meal was delicious and a great cooked breakfast in the morning. Lovely spacious room with character from the oak framed windows and beautiful setting outside. Would definitely come back again!

Overnight stay when travelling south. 5 minutes from M6. Lovely hotel, grounds and great breakfast. Will definitely use again

Disappointed with mobility facilities. Booked restaurant for the Sunday night for a family reunion but when we arrived were told the restaurant was closed Sunday and Monday. No quiet relaxing area due to library being used Saturday and Sunday Definitely not 4 star. Staff friendly and helpful.

Very nice venue drinks too expensive. But over all nice stay. Plates for breakfast need to be warmed up

Food in the restuarant was very high quality. The presentation, seevice and taste all excellent.

Better to have coffee machine for breakfast because coffee not nice and asked for milk and had it off other table that another person had used not good

The breakfast was a let down. rather poor. Hot food was luke warm and poor quality. Tea and coffee not piping hot as should be.

We stayed at the Moat House on our way up north and again on our way back south. Both times were a great experience. The rooms are very comfortable with good showers - all our requests were catered to. My husband left his electric shaver behind and they are sending it back to us. We were not looking for formal dining in the main restaurant and The Bar Lounge menu turned out to be very good - special mention on the Mackerel Rillettes starter!! Head Chef James Cracknell was sent our grateful thanks for a delicious dish. Breakfast was also very good - it's not easy to get good scrambled eggs at a buffet, but we did - both times. Can highly recommend the hotel and restaurant - we hope to return!

The restaurant let this stay down. Lots of items in the menu were not available and communication was poor in relation to this. Service was also slow. To be fair they did apologies and were nice. Other than that, the hotel staff were excellent and welcoming.
