Stayed here for 2 nights for the GNR and it was perfect. Lovely spa, beds are really comfortable

All of the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming - especially the ladies on the front desk. Felt really well looked after and really appreciated the early breakfast which they had put on especially for the GNR runners. Thank you! Room was clean and well equipped and it was nice to be able to use the leisure facilities too.

It seems like each time I stay here it is slightly worse than the time before. The rooms are quite tired and mine smelled weird this time. Hot water can seem a lottery with the showers (my colleagues have all said the same and it’s now a running joke), bar service is slow and the gym is tired with creaky machines and not even the TV’s working this time. Management need to take a close look around before we all give in and find somewhere else.

I got the room furthest from reception, but I wasn't doing a lot of to/fro so not a big problem. Gym/pool open until very reasonable hours

Arrived for 2 nights on Friday pool was quite cold, my husband used gym but on Saturday gym was closed and the pool was even colder, gym members informed us there had been problems with heating. Our first room was cold, but we were moved immediately.

Lovely hotel, easy check in, staff on reception good, room lovely, nice n warm, bed so comfy, spacious room with fridge, pool area great, staff on the spa facilities friendly and helpful, breafast was fab, should of been buffet but because the hotel count was low it was served, but we could ask for more if we wanted it , great to see food wasnt been wasted , great choice, nicely presented , hot and tasted fabulous , cant fault the stay at this hotel and at a very good price compared to other hotels offering the same , and parking is free and plentiful, just remember to add your reg at check in desk and how many nites your staying 😊

Nice helpful staff, rooms were well fitted and clean, shower worked well. Gym and pool/sauna/steamroom all good. evening meals were good Breakfast was reasonable

Staff were lovely and very professional, hotel was clean and the food and drink were good, but the room had some issues. The light switches didn’t work apart from the bathroom one, thankfully there were lamps that you could turn on underneath. Extractor fan in the bathroom didn’t work so the room filled with steam after leaving the shower. Mould in the grout on the bathroom wall tiles, not loads but noticeable and probably caused from the extractor not working. The air con worked but made so much noise, clicking and banging, we thought it was going to explode so turned it off. Nothing particularly bad, just a lack of proper maintenance. Would happily stay again but maybe only if I found the room cheaper.

It's not new place and overall it looks quite fine. However via hotels.com we had a marking in our room that it includes AC. It definitely didn't. It was extremely hot. There's some towel heater in the toilet that can't be turned off at all. Toilet is constant +30-35C during summer days. In the room you can only open your window by few inches. They had a small table fan in the closet which was the most disgusting thing I've seen for a while. It was covered in thick dust and dirt and it took like half an hour to clean it. At first it shot huge cloud of dust all over the room. TV also needed power from the outlet so you needed to press the button first. When you look behind the TV you can see probably years of thick moisturized dust formed everywhere so it looked more like a fire hazard than only just disgusting. There was breakfast and it was ok but without anything fresh to go on bread. But bacon, beans, eggs and sausages were available. Beds were comfortable and shower had nice shower gels and shampoos. There was also very good parking area outside. Check-in&out also worked very fast and that was nice. There's also good looking gym.

Good hotel well placed for Newcastle and Gateshead areas. - rooms very clean and quiet

Attended for a friends wedding which was a lovely night. Rooms & communal areas adequate/pleasant & clean.

Hotel rooms are extremely old. Stains on all walls. Beds are older than me. The service is good. No cental heating or air con. Surprised at the price is the charge per rooms for what they offer.

Easy checkin. Great room. Staff friendly and really helpful when I asked about safe running routes outside hotel.

Gym/Pool shut at 8pm, so missed out on that. Reception was specifically asked for a room close to reception with minimum walking. Was allocated the furthest room from reception. Communication breakdown. Reception also asked when food stopped being served, was told 11pm. This was wrong, so couldn't get any dinner, disappointing. Room has very noisy fridge.

The hotel was acceptable for a short stay. The bedroom was in reasonable condition, but the bathroom was a little tired and /or needed some finishing work. Food in the evening was OK - nothing more Breakfast was OK - the food seemed to have been standing for a while.

Very comfortable bed

We only used it for a bed so cannot comment on public facilities but it looked decent. Curtains didn't meet in room had to wedge them to keep out the light

I like this hotel. The Staff are friendly. I just thibk recently the price is a far too much. It used to be so much cheaper

The person on reception appeared to be on a different planet. She had the scripted spiel to go through, but ask her a question back and she just seemed oblivious to someone talking back. Food is very basic but adequate. Restaurant service is poor. There were only about 6 people dining. Waitress for got our drinks, then forgot the guy on the table next to us. This is a typical hotel for business.

Staff were extremely helpful when we were in very difficult circumstances

This is the second time I have stayed here this month and the service has gone from bad to worse. Sat in the restaurant for 1.5 hrs waiting for my burger. Distinct lack of staff, with no one coming to apologies why the food was taking so long. As I got up to leave to walk to McDonalds, the person sat on the table next to me finally got his bowl of soup. The hotel is of a reasonable standard with a pool and gym. If you want to eat, walk the 5 mins to Boldon colliery retail park.

So the afternoon tea was ok, cake was a bit stale Room was nice but lights weren’t working they did mention at reception bit nothing was to be be done and we had to deal with it, luckily we weren’t there for a night out

The surrounding environment

This hotel is within easy access to Newcastle city centre and has plenty of parking. The breakfast was convenient in that it stopped us having to stop elsewhere but was fairly underwhelming.

Great welcome & general facilities. Did not use bar or restaurant on site but it looked welcoming and well positioned. Nice internal courtyard to enjoy drinks. Very close (walking distance) to Asda and a number of fast food options. Bedroom was fine. Lift out of order which was frustrating as I had a large amount of luggage to carry upstairs. Plenty of parking. Would stay again.

All good apart from delays and shortage of breakfast items plus food in the evening a little below what I would expect

This is a nice hotel in a good location, however the breakfast is not great for the price charged - hot food is not as hot as it should be, and over done.

I recently stayed in the Lasso Suite at the Clarion Hotel Newcastle South. The room itself was excellent—spacious, beautifully presented, and with an incredibly comfortable bed. However, a few details let the experience down, such as empty soap dispensers and a non-functional Nespresso machine. These minor inconveniences aside, the suite was a standout feature of the stay. Unfortunately, the breakfast experience did not live up to the hotel's four-star reputation. The food quality was disappointing, with cardboard-like bacon, burnt sausages, and soggy, undercooked pastries. Despite the restaurant being nearly empty, with only six diners, it took almost 20 minutes to serve poached eggs. There was no cold continental selection, the coffee machines only dispensed weak, watery coffee with no milk, and there wasn’t even bread available for toast. The waitress, though polite and trying her best, seemed overwhelmed despite the minimal number of guests. While the room was lovely and well-appointed, the breakfast experience fell short of expectations for a four-star establishment. With improvements to the dining service, the hotel could provide a much more consistent and enjoyable stay.
