This is a wonderful building in its own beautiful and peaceful grounds. There is ample parking space. It is also very close to both rail (Swindon-to-London or Bristol) and road transport (M4). The building has some magnificent architectural features - like the staircase from the foyer and beautiful crown moulding throughout. Our room was huge with two bay windows - it was beautifully decorated and our bathroom had both a shower and a bath-tub. We received a very warm welcome and were escorted to our room. The excellent breakfast was served in the spacious bar area - dinner is also available but we did not try that.

Convenient quiet location for a 2-night stay. Large comfortable room. Very old building so some tricky staircases to negotiate but helpful staff assisted getting our luggage up to our room.

Lovely old building. Needs some attention in places.Draughty and not very warm l We were on the 2nd floor up a twisty narrow staircase which I found very difficult. The room was large and pleasant. Shower over the bath which also could not get into.

Staff were excellent, repeat excellent - room location was in the roof accessed from almost dangerous stairs.. Room was cold and towel rail did not work. TV was freeview that did not enjoy a good signal. Could not book a room direct with the Hotel but had to go through an agency. Bar was very expensive.

Lovely building with a less attractive (1980’s?) extension plenty of car parking in its own grounds close enough to the M4 andSwindon Room a little dated and no view but a good size and very clean Staff very helpful and friendly and I could not fault it for the price Food at dinner very nice, good size portions,if slightly expensive

Beautiful building in lovely grounds. Fantastic staff, great breakfast. I was very pleased to find a last minute pet friendly booking for the bank holiday Saturday. why did I not rate this 5 star…On arrival I was informed that my single room was on the top floor (3 flights of stairs) with no lift. Fortunately this was not actually a problem although I am well into may 70s. The bed however was a problem - I could feel all the springs, so did not have a good nights sleep which was the purpose of breaking my journey. I knew every time one of my fellow ‘attic’ dwellers used the bathroom - the plumbing rumbled very loudly. I also had to ask for toiletries. Surely standard in a hotel of this class. I’m sure though if I had had one of the rooms on a lower floor things would have been different. Management, you need to check the bed in room 14!

It was an enjoyable stay it was nice that there was a restaurant available. The meal was nice and had a good selection. Breakfast were good and staff were helpful and polite. Perhaps a lift would be the only suggestion or ramp.

Stayed for one Saturday night, was greeted at the front desk and shown into our room, they accepted my request for a lower floor room. Room was very spacious, clean and had all amenities you’d expect. Bathroom was also large. Decor is fitting with style and age of building, giving it character. Comfy bed and quiet during the night. Parking was free and a 1 min walk from entrance. Breakfast consisted of cooked options including sausage, bacon, fried eggs, tomatoes and mushrooms, toast was ordered and served, cold options were mini croissants, cereal, yoghurt & fruit. Tea & coffee was served and fruit juice available, on the table was a selection of jams & spreads. Breakfast staff were friendly and attentive. Would 100% stay here again.

Staff were outstanding and always helpful. Dining disappointing. Not particulary inspiring choice of burgers, sausage and mash and pan fried sea bass, and remained the same for two days. Breakfast first day was from a menu, second morning was self service (yuk!). Prices of drinks were horrifyingly expensive!!!!!! Rooms obviously not checked by housekeeping as shower gel in bathroom empty (not realised until in shower!) and no shampoo. Put right by ever helpful staff.

Room was surface clean but lots of dust ( eg behind bed, on tops of sockets). Decor is very tired and needs updating - mould on blinds, rips, in curtain linings, severe calcium build up in bath and toilets - uneven floors. No hairdryer or conditioner in bathroom.No usb charging point for phones. Would have been a poor review but the staff were superb and the food was good which rescued the review overall.Price point reflected the general condition. Was OK for a short stay. I would stay again because staff and service was top rate.

We found this to be a lovely hotel, spacious room and comfortable furnishings, all very clean. The dinner menu had limited choice but did have what we wanted. Cooked breakfast was good value and tasty but only available after 8 o'clock. The staff were excellent though, friendly, polite, helpful with a smile.

The room we were given looked nothing like the photos advertised. It was grotty with wall paper hanging off in various places. It’s very dated but has lots of potential with what looks like beautiful grounds. We didn’t stay for dinner out of principal, we don’t like false advertising. The breakfast was poor with instant coffee being given to us in a cafetière. I would have been happy paying £75 for this place but not £120. False pictures for our double room, dated, and I mean who gives instant coffee in a cafetière.

Staff were very welcoming and helpful especially the reception and breakfast staff. Not a great experience when dressed in my wedding outfit, I stood in some chewing gum on the patio area, however the receptionist couldn't do enough to help me which I was grateful for. Also a blood-stained plaster and hairs in the room meant a 4 star rating given, sorry. Overall a lovely stay and perfect location for our overnight stay for a wedding.

Just a one night stay but we'd happily have stayed longer. Check in was excellent and Ros the receptionist couldn't have been more helpful. Our room was huge, immaculate and very well set up. Breakfast was fine and checkout was friendly and efficient. We loved the hotel, but most of all we can't recommend the staff highly enough.

Beautiful grounds and hotel but rooms tired and need updating. I asked to be moved from the first room they put me in and was given a superior room, the room sizes are huge however missing the small things that speak superior such as hotel/area information, mini fridge, tissues, heated towel rail etc. bath not dirty but looked it as it badly needed resurfacing. On the plus side, large beds, garden views, good food, nice communal areas, great friendly staff, iron in room, warm rooms, plenty of towels, quiet.

The grounds were lovely, well maintained, floodlit at night. Hardworking staff. The angled ceiling in our room was a hazard as I was liable to hit my head when next to the bed.

I am a regular guest at this hotel. Always a good experience.This trip there were some difficulties with the heating in my room which only came on intermittently.The reception tried her best to fix it but it only worked sporadically.Otherwise no complaints at all,always enjoy my stays here.Charming ,friendly staff.Look forward to staying again.

Stayed here for a nearby wedding. Lovely staff, comfortable room and decent breakfast. Only quibble was that we could hear the water tank above our room which woke us up several times. We mentioned this to the staff at check-out and received candid apologies but something to bear in mind.

Quiet hotel set in lovely grounds close to M4. We had a lovely large room. Furnishings were a little dated but large bed was very comfortable. Bathroom is in urgent need of upgrade though. Blind was broken and the showerhead holder on the wall was too small and shower head fell off once water running under pressure. Disappointing.

A very last minute stay after having to drop out of Race to the Stones due to injury. I was helped to my room, and the best cheese sandwich I have ever had was brought up to me when I mentioned I couldn't face the thought of dinner. Even more, when my husband had to drop out of the event at nearly midnight they were great about letting me go to get him and I just needed to pay for the extra breakfast the following morning. They helped turn around what could have been a totally disastrous weekend, and I am so, so grateful to them.

Room was surface clean but lots of dust ( eg behind bed, on tops of sockets). Decor is very tired and needs updating - mould on blinds, rips, in curtain linings, severe calcium build up in bath and toilets - uneven floors. No hairdryer or conditioner in bathroom.No usb charging point for phones. Would have been a poor review but the staff were superb and the food was good which rescued the review overall.Price point reflected the general condition. Was OK for a short stay. I would stay again because staff and service was top rate.

Looked after by Angie who was an angel. It's always a pleasure to be welcomed by a familiar face and a big smile. Rooms and bathrooms are always clean and comfortable, if not a little tired in places. But that simply reflects the age of the property and isn't an issue.

Just a one night stay but we'd happily have stayed longer. Check in was excellent and Ros the receptionist couldn't have been more helpful. Our room was huge, immaculate and very well set up. Breakfast was fine and checkout was friendly and efficient. We loved the hotel, but most of all we can't recommend the staff highly enough.

This is a wonderful building in its own beautiful and peaceful grounds. There is ample parking space. It is also very close to both rail (Swindon-to-London or Bristol) and road transport (M4). The building has some magnificent architectural features - like the staircase from the foyer and beautiful crown moulding throughout. Our room was huge with two bay windows - it was beautifully decorated and our bathroom had both a shower and a bath-tub. We received a very warm welcome and were escorted to our room. The excellent breakfast was served in the spacious bar area - dinner is also available but we did not try that.

Relaxing surroundings. Hotel in lovely grounds. Staff were friendly and went out of their way to be accommodating. Close to bus stop for access to Swindon without car. Would have liked a bar menu as well as the more formal dinner option. Breakfast however was superb.

Quiet hotel set in lovely grounds close to M4. We had a lovely large room. Furnishings were a little dated but large bed was very comfortable. Bathroom is in urgent need of upgrade though. Blind was broken and the showerhead holder on the wall was too small and shower head fell off once water running under pressure. Disappointing.

A charming and characterful property. Very impressed with the overall experience. Rooms were spacious and facilities were good. Slightly thin walls in the bathroom (could hear the neighbouring guest toileting). Pleasant staff. Exceptional food (dinner menu was excellent). Breakfast catered for in the early hours which was appreciated. Would most certainly return.

Great value if booked via a portal near stay date. Free upgrade made by hotel which was great. Nice big comfortable room. Very nice professional staff. Pleasant grounds. Dinner and wine very average but ok. Breakfast fine. Outdoor furnishings a bit tired! Overall pleasant quiet stay at a moderate cost.

We found this to be a lovely hotel, spacious room and comfortable furnishings, all very clean. The dinner menu had limited choice but did have what we wanted. Cooked breakfast was good value and tasty but only available after 8 o'clock. The staff were excellent though, friendly, polite, helpful with a smile.

Staff were outstanding and always helpful. Dining disappointing. Not particulary inspiring choice of burgers, sausage and mash and pan fried sea bass, and remained the same for two days. Breakfast first day was from a menu, second morning was self service (yuk!). Prices of drinks were horrifyingly expensive!!!!!! Rooms obviously not checked by housekeeping as shower gel in bathroom empty (not realised until in shower!) and no shampoo. Put right by ever helpful staff.

Staff were friendly and pleasant, but I wasn’t asked how my stay was on checkout so was unable to provide my feedback in person. This hotel is well situated and the room was large. The bed was comfortable, good linen, towels and a decent shower. However, the hotel is tired and whilst a full refurb would be very costly there could easily be a few improvements made, e.g. new shower curtain and rail to remove mould and prevent it happening again, new bathroom blind again to remove mould, replace the lights along the walkway from the car park as this is dangerous at night with uneven slabs.
