Outstanding stay at the Esplanade. Beautiful facility and very convenient location. Parking was a breeze with the valet option. Super friendly and helpful staff. Highly recommended for a luxury experience in Zagreb!

Fabulous decor, staff, rooms and ambiance. Breakfast was amazing as was the meal we had in the bar.

Gym and sauna are excellent and just what a weary traveler would need to refresh for ones onward journey. Room service is excellent both in quality, service and speed.

We had an absolutely perfect stay. I was traveling with my son, and although we were just passing through Zagreb, we decided to extend our stay by another day. Everything was great – the bed was very comfortable, and the hotel has kept a charming, vintage feel which I especially liked. The only thing I missed was a swimming pool – the hotel doesn’t have one. Still, I would gladly come back again.

This hotel exudes old world glam and its history is rich. The staff are quite helpful and kind. Room service was great. Had a conference here and the main ballroom is also gorgeous.

We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Esplanade. The shower pressure and temp were good, the bed was large/comfortable, and the staff were extremely helpful. We heard from locals during our stay that this hotel is the best one in Zagreb and we have no major reasons to think otherwise. There was a small hair clump in the shower upon arrival and we didn’t like that the entire unit was carpeted, but everything else was quite lovely.

Superior room was truly superior. The place is spotless and the amenities are truly fitting for a luxury hotel. But those physical aspects pale in comparison to the incredible staff. They go out of their way to help with EVERYTHING! I can seriously say I’ve never had better service than all aspects of the Esplanade.

A lovely traditional hotel with art nouveau architecture and style. The decoration was pretty glamorous. The staff was very hospitable and the concierge gave us good recommendations. The room we got was very spacious and had a gorgeous view of the hotel's terrace. We also liked the toiletries from L'Occitane. We did not have breakfast included, but it was raining so we decided to stay in and pay for it even though it was pricey, but it was worth it. Varied and delicious choices, the restaurant was really nice and had excellent service. The hotel was in the Lower Town, but just about 10 minutes from Upper Town (which is more touristy, but we found the Lower Town to be prettier). While we had a great experience at the hotel overall, it does feel a bit run down and in need of an upgrade. However, we felt the price we paid was very reasonable for what we got. If they upgrade the hotel, they will probably increase the rates.

We had a tiny smelly room. For some reason there were only two very tiny thin pillows in our room to sleep on. My neck was killing me the next day. The shower wouldn’t drain and we showered in standing water. The toilet wouldn’t flush. I gave the hotel two chances to respond before I posted this review - telling the front desk in person and sending an email. Fell on deaf ears. I would never stay here again. But I suspect they feel my negative review doesn’t matter.

This hotel should not be 5*. It is outdated, run down and doesn’t have 5* service, some staff are rude, unfriendly, badly managed, should change management perhaps Kempinski group could help. No water is supplied, when asked we are told tap water is drinkable. We used 1 glass to drink water from the bathroom tap for 4 days, glass wasn’t replaced or washed at all. When our bed linen was changed, they didn’t change 2 pillow cases. There was no toothbrush, toothpaste, shaving blades ect, there were only 2 ear buds, one makeup pad, shower cap. Not a large selection for breakfast. Only thing going for it is its historical value. Do not recommend it and will not be staying here again.

Beautiful hotel!! Room was luxurious and large. We had a wonderful diner at their Bistro. Amenities were top of the line!

👍 Really helpful staff and our room was a great size. Beautiful building. 👎 Room wifi was slow and dropped out a lot. Breakfast buffet was good, but allergen info on the labels would be helpful and a wider vege/vegan menu would be welcome.

The room was definitely not fit for first class hotel. The plumbing was bad and there were several “holes “ covered by carpet. The coffee machine was missing and when we requested one we were told they don’t have it.

Nice lobby, nice view. Only problem was the rain shower head didn’t work. I called 3 times and they said they’d send someone to look at it but never did. Had to use the handheld shower.

Fantastic stay in Zagreb. I would highly recommend. Historic hotel with comfortable, well sized room. Superb view from the 4th floor. Enjoyed our cocktails in the bar.

We loved this hotel, great location. We had a large wonderful room overlooking the fountain with a very comfy bed. The room was serviced every day and the staff were all very helpful. We went for the advent festivities and it didn't disappoint. We didn't have breakfast so can't comment on this. If we had any negatives at all it would be the hairdryer in the drawer which was very difficult to use

Beautiful period property with elegant interior. Slightly surprised that the soundproofing between rooms was so poor. We could hear the phone call next door clearly!

The property is very elegant compared to other hotels. But water pressure is low - showers werent strong and neither were toilets

The check-in and check out process was entirely too slow and cumbersome. They need more staff to handle their volume of guests. This was the most frustrating part of our stay.The hotel is very clean but outdated. We enjoy traditional, European style accommodations but the hotel feels tired. The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable

Never received the VIP silver complimentary bottle of wine. I even went back and asked the check in person and he said he would have to ask someone else and it would be taken care of. It never was. I didn’t feel any benefit of VIP status.

Everyone was really friendly at the front desk, valet and in the restaurant. The front desk helped us with last minute resy at the restaurant; the food was amazing.

Everyone was very helpful. From the concierge to the doorman. I ended up fracturing my foot and the hotel did everything they could to help me, from calling me a doctor, to getting taxis for me, getting me meds, crutches, etc. Room service was excellent and I was very happy with this establishment. Thank you very much!

This was our first visit to Zagreb and we knew as soon as we checked into the Esplanade Hotel that our trip was going to be great. And it was! The hotel was excellent and the staff especially the concierge Monica was truly most efficient and helpful. We felt so comfortable with her recommendations and assistance for restaurant reservations, theatre tickets and very kind personality. I dont think we would have had such a great experience of Zagreb if it was'nt for the Esplanade Hotel. Shall be going back to Zagreb more often only to be at the Esplanade Hotel.

The staff were exceptional—especially the concierge and reception team, who were both professional and genuinely friendly. Its location is ideal for travelers: just steps from the main train station and within easy reach of the bus terminal. The charming old town is a pleasant 15–20 minute walk away. Room service was prompt and satisfying, adding to the overall comfort of the stay. In short, the Esplanade is a place I’d gladly return to—and I’ll be recommending it to all my friends.

A number of members of staff were quite brusque (reception, and valet parking) and restaurant staff were quite slow.

The hotel is less than 30 mins away from airport via Uber. The staff were friendly at the welcome desk. The room is huge with a large bathroom. The room is a little out of date but cozy. Breakfast is decent European selection. Location wise, it is a little walk to the key attractions

We made an expensive mistake staying here and hope you'll avoid doing the same. Yes, we read the great reviews, but we're very seasoned travelers and want to tell you the truth about this place. A few major deal-breaker issues with the hotel: 1. You are literally next to a train station with trains coming in at all random hours of the day and night. Good luck having a good night's sleep. 2. Indifferent staff: our check in was horrible - the woman taking our passport seemed totally uninterested in her job. I made a joke about the open champagne bottle behind her and she said she almost forgot to offer a glass to my wife and me, which is standard. Keep in mind we checked in on a Sunday and it was not busy at all. 3. Inexcusably, for a hotel that claims it is the best in a European capital city, they cannot or will not break large Euro bills into small ones (so you can, ironically, tip their staff, pay for taxi rides, etc.). Imagine staying at the Waldorf in NYC, and they said they couldn't break a $100 bill for you into $10 and $20s? Would. Never. Happen. Incredible. 4. You are NOT close to any of Zagreb's amazing cafes, restaurants, etc. Unless you like staring at a water fountain, there are better and cheaper hotels nearer the city's many wonderful plazas. All in all, this is WAY overpriced for what you get, the rooms are small and outdated, and you are far from where all the action is - the trendy cafes, restaurants, etc. Please save your money and stay elsewhere.

Very nice property and helpful staff. Accommodations were awesome and very convenient to the train station. A few trolleys stop in the area as well. Very walkable to the old town/downtown area. I would stay there again.

A grand hotel very conveniently located - lovely property, rooms and restaurants. Easy walk to old town and museums and parks. Very charming. Staff are very helpful. Breakfast buffet was excellent.

What a gem of a property. Great amenities, food, location etc. Only complaint was the wait staff at Le Bistro. They were inattentive, distracted and slow during the dinner service. Food was great.

Decor--splendid marbles (B&W, dark green)and other visual delights. Outstanding staff. Excellent restaurants; breakfast option recommended for the stay rather than more costly day by day. I'll take my own recommendation next time. Toward Easter and especially toward Christmas great place to be.

Beautiful hotel with excellent service. The room was spacious and very comfortable. Breakfast in the restaurant includes a wonderful buffet spread and items made to order. There are some beautiful parks and museums close by, and old town Zagreb is just a few blocks away.
