We were very happy to stay at the Grande Hotel et Des Palmes. Walking through the front door you are transported to a by-gone era of elegant hotels visited by droves of people on the Grand Tour. While Palermo is on the outside rough and gritty, the Grande Hotel ed Des Palmes is refined and oh so hospitable. We were placed in a very beautiful suite that fronted the Via Roma, but the sounds of the street could not be heard within. Our suite featured a foyer, sitting room, bedroom, and extravagant bath -- one of the best showers we have ever encountered. The weather outside was sweltering, but inside we were as cool as cucumbers. Breakfast was in a grand covered courtyard, used in the evenings as a bar. The morning spread was extensive with pastries, cereals, breads, hott offerings, fresh juices and even granita! While the cappuccino wasn't the best, we did very much enjoy our stay and we will most definitely return.

Lovely rooms and hotel. The bathroom was small. The transfer from train station to hotel which hotel arranged was excessive cost for the 5 minute drive. All staff were friendly and accommodating.

The concierge staff are professional, helpful and efficient. We loved the breakfasts (a wide array of Sicilian patisseries as well as fresh fruit and a good selection of seeds and nuts and hot food) and the beautiful dining room in which the breakfasts are held. We also loved their Gattopardo room - great for reading and cocktails before dinner. The hotel is located on a main road in a central location. Good walking distance to the main sights.

The hotel looks like it was recently renovated. The service was excellent, and the views from the Terrance were incredible. Had a great stay.

The hotel has charm but for $1000 a night I expected much more so was disappointed. Room was spacious and bathroom was very nice but room was basic. Carpets throughout entire hotel were stained and dirty. It is centrally located and walking distance to main attractions.

The hotel was 5 stars in every way. Staff was very helpful and housekeeping was great. The hotel was in a good location for eating options and sight seeing.

This hotel was lovely. Room was spacious and very comfortable. The front desk was able to change my kids room from a double to a twin. That was very helpful and they did it with minimum disruption. The breakfast buffet was amazing. We had dessert at the restaurant and it was delicious. Walking around at night was slightly negative and the area is a bit dirty.

If you travel to Palermo avoid this property! They will over charge you. Staff is rude, hotel is disgustingly dirty. Avoid them!! They love taking advantage of you!

Very nice tranquil hotel. We requested a city view when we booked, but we didn’t get the room, in stead we had a back view. That was the only complain, but it turned out it was quiet. Great service, all staff are friendly. Nicely kept facility. Super clean and comfortable. You don’t hear any sound at all. Breakfast at the downstairs was nice. Walking distance to everywhere. We stayed two nights, and we truly enjoy the stay.

Property could use some decor in the rooms. The concierge was exceptional.

Everything was good, the one issue we had were the thin walls so you could hear the other guests around you and that our AC wasn’t working properly

Nice hotel, but a/c not working properly in the room

Room was clean and a good size. On the down side, Very noisy. Not all but most staff would need a little refresher couse on being friendly. Breakfast was just ok.

The hotel is beautiful however service is very bad . In addition I left a few items behind and reported them few hours later . Items were never recovered. Not a honest housekeeping Would not be back

Great concierge by Vivienne ,great bell boy , however not a minute extra of late check out allowed , I was surprised since I have been a gold member of hotels.com since many years . There is no use of this membership

We had the absolute pleasure of staying at the Grand Hotel et Des Palmes in Palermo for two weeks in January 2025, and it was an unforgettable experience. The hotel's rich history as a former castle has been beautifully preserved, and its stunning architecture and decor only added to our enchantment. But what truly made our stay exceptional was the warm and welcoming staff. The entire front desk team and concierge were incredibly helpful and went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and satisfaction. Special mention must be made of Marina, who introduced us to some of the most authentic and wonderful local Sicilian gems, hidden away from the usual tourist trails. Her insider knowledge and passion for the region were invaluable, and we felt like we experienced the real Sicily thanks to her recommendations and professionalism. Bruno, too, was a huge help, assisting us in finding our way around the city and providing us with expert advice. His kindness and expertise made a significant difference to our stay, and we're so grateful to have had him as a resource. The cleanliness of the room was beyond our expectations, and the breakfast in the morning was complete and nutritional. What struck us most, however, was the hotel's reputation among the locals. Every time we mentioned the hotel's name to anyone in Palermo, their response was and full of fond memories. One business owner in a boutique I shopped at told me she got married 30 years ago in the hotel. Amazing place

This is a 5-star hotel, but for 2 reasons, it’s not operating at the 5-star level. To be fair, let me list the good things first. The physical plant is excellent. The room looks and feels brand new. Everything is top notch and works flawlessly. It is spacious, with high ceiling, and a very comfortable bed. The rest of the building is also in excellent condition, not to mention the gorgeous design. Now for the 2 flaws. The 1st problem is the location. It is a good location but to reach the historic center, there’s still a 15-20 minute walk through a busy part of town. Moreover, there isn’t a lot of space on the sidewalk in front of the hotel. For a hotel of this caliber, one expects a grand entrance of some sort. Not only is there no such thing, it’s almost dangerous right in front of the hotel. The narrow sidewalk is taken up by parked vehicles so that pedestrians essentially have to walk in the streets with cars and buses zipping by. This is not the hotel’s fault. It’s everywhere like this in Palermo, nonetheless, this is unexpected for such a high class establishment. Then there’s the service. It’s decent but spotty. Once at breakfast, I asked for tea. The 1st server completely forgot. The 2nd brought hot water but not the tea bags. I had to ask a third one. Eventually, the teabags were brought but no apology was offered. There is turn-down service but inexplicably, one my last evening, there was none. Someone did knock at my door to ask if the room was OK. Strange!

Evidemment c'est le grand luxe,mais nous sommes déçus par les prestations: pas de café dans la chambre, un chauffage excessif(chambre et salle de bain), des lumières dans la chambre qui perturbent le sommeil, un petit déjeuner très moyen....bref on a eu beaucoup mieux dans nos hotels précédents en Sicile pour beaucoup moins cher !

The name of the hotel says it all, Grand. From the second you walk in you can feel the history and the elegance. Every member of the staff went above and beyond to make sure that my last two days in Sicily were perfect. Whether it was booking us a dinner reservation or bringing a complementary cake to my room for my girlfriend’s birthday they truly showed every bit of Italian hospitality. The rooms are phenomenal with huge showers and lots of natural light. We also ate at the restaurant here which was top three meals of our 2 week trip. Hope to be back soon.

We were celebrating my husbands 50 year birthday. This is one of the best hotels we have stayed at. Staff were very professional and extremely friendly. Made us feel welcome from the moment we stepped in to the hotel. The room was a corner room with two windows and balconies. The view from the room was beautiful. The room was very clean. Bathroom felt luxurious. Breakfast was very fresh and good. Excellent espresso. We had dinner at the restaurant. The food was both beautiful and delicious. The cocktail French 75 is the best cocktail I’ve ever had. The interior of the whole hotel is just breathtaking and historic. We had such a wonderful stay. Highly recommended.
