The Hotel Captain Cook

The location was great. It was an easy walk to multiple restaurants and a beautiful coastal trail. The onsite restaurants were decent but not always open during the posted times. If you are looking for an upscale stay. This isn't it. The hotel rooms are very dated. I booked an ocean view but received a view of buildings and a partial mountain view. The front desk staff was unfriendly and unhelpful. I was supposed to get a $20 resort credit with my VIP booking, but when I asked about it, I found out that it is only usable in one restaurant for breakfast, and it would only work on 1 day of my 3-day stay. Beware, there is no self-parking onsite, and the $40 valet fee per night seems outrageous when there is free street parking over the weekend within a block of the hotel -- look for parking meters with orange polls if you want to take advantage of free overnight/weekend parking.

Room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The gym was divided into men's and women's area however the women's area was disappointing. Very few weights, no squat rack and lackluster. The hotel was centrally located to restaurants and shops

Expensive.for stay. Parking.not included.

Staff are excellent; location great; very comfortable bed and nice view. Gym is nice but equipment tired.

The property is beautiful and is a very nice, historic hotel. We were unimpressed with checkin. The front desk told me to find a bellhop but none were available and I didn’t know where to even wait. There weren’t any options to get a cart to transport all of our bags without a bellhop, so we had to struggle with our bags and 2 kids. It’s a very large hotel and we didn’t know where to go to get to our room. When I asked the front desk, I got a short, incorrect, response. My husband got the same. No one was going out of their way to help us. At that point I’d have rather been at a 3 star hotel where they set it up so you can help yourselves more conveniently. We also weren’t prepared for such a large parking fee - even without valet we’d be paying 30-50 dollars a night. And if you forego the valet, then you’re left walking in downtown from the parking garage to the hotel. This information wasn’t really available prior to getting there - it wasn’t even super clear where you were supposed to enter the hotel. So it was just confusing and stressful checking in initially. The pool is very small and cold with no hot tub but the locker room was VERY nice with great service. I wish there was more kid friendly dining available, but the food was very good. Overall, it wasn’t any better than a cheaper hotel. We’ll be trying something different next year.

We’ve stayed at Captain Cook Hotel multiple times but we were a little disappointed with the comfort of the double beds in the room. Despite the overall cleanliness and pleaseant decor of the hotel, the bed was too firm for my liking and left me with a sore back in the morning. I understand that personal preference for mattress firmness can vary, but I believe that the bed in my room was not up to the standard that I have come to expect from a Hotel of this caliber. The staff was friendly and helpful, and location of hotel was convenient but the mattress discomfort and out of order jacuzzi left a negative impression on my stay.

It was great. Captain Cook is a little expensive for me. However, the bed was extremely comfortable, room was quiet, and I loved the sauna. I was not impressed that valet parking was in a local parking garage where anyone can access my vehicle.

We stayed at Captain Cook Hotel for the ceremonial start of the Iditarod. The hotel was clean and convenient/walkable to everywhere we wanted to go.

Beautiful old hotel. The rooms were very clean and up to date. My only complaint would be the bathroom was very old style with a very small wall mount toilet(hate those) but was spotless clean. Just an old style bathroom

This room was so sad and right behind the elevator! When I took a shower the water backed up. Called the front desk to clear and the next morning still backing up. The window in the room had black duck tape closing the window, mold on the ceiling in the bathroom. The carpet was vacuumed but behind the night stand dirty… this trip covered several states and one country. The Sheraton at the Portland airport was great, the Fairmont in Vancouver BC which I paid the same amount of money per night eas great! But the Captain Cook was just sad.

We really enjoyed The Hotel Captain Cook. Great location. Beautiful rooms and common areas. Nice shopping too.

The hotel was clean. The area was safe. The staff were very accommodating.

Hotel is well maintained, room was clean and cozy, tv has lots of options for what you want to watch. Checking in and out was quick and simple.

We had a corner room for five nights. It was a great place to stay. Comfortable and clean with great staff.

Great location but 40 parking fee for valet is steep considering room price. Very noisy street noise and we’re on the 18th of 20th floor facing mountains. The rooms are very old looking for price. Hotel is beautful. Wouldn’t stay again.

One of the few times you’ll hear me complain about the Cook. Word to the wise, ask for a room away from the elevators. It was noisy…

They did not have internet available on the TV which they didn’t tell guests until they arrived. Plus no microwaves in the rooms. Compared to other expensive hotels. Parking was not free all day, only at night.

Outdated hotel. Rooms were clean but about 2 decades past prime. Also the doors slammed loudly at night keeping you up. I would try one of the newer motels if I visited again.

Room has an amazing view. Bed and linens were good. Pillows a bit flat. Bathroom needs update. Had to call out the for service about the toilet being clogged twice. Very nice service staff. Had plenty of food options onsite. Overall pretty nice place. A bit on the pricey side though.

Be careful....do not get a room near elevator shaft....noise 24/7...could not sleep.

Family and I stayed at the hotel over New Years for almost a week. The number of restaurants the hotel offers was great. There are many shops to include gift shops located in the hotel if you’re looking for a gift to buy. The coffee shop has wonderful coffee and small snacks. The staff at the hotel is what made this a great stay for us. They’re very welcoming and friendly. One thing I’d recommend is recycling bins in and around the property. I didn’t notice anywhere where we could place recyclables.

Nothing unique. Terrible customer service

Service was very good but several issues. All of which I had read before, answered online by a manager, and never corrected. 1) the day of checkout at 8 am after one light knock the cleaning crew woke us by opening the door. Seems to be a very common issue. Front desk should come up with a better system for telling the cleaning crew which rooms are already vacant. 8 am barge ins are unreasonable 2)24/7 loud noise heard through earplugs which kept us from properly sleeping. Air duct? Elevator? Again a problem I read about in many prior reviews. Still a problem 3)captain cook is not a historical figure I celebrate as “discovering” lands native populations had loved on thousands of years prior to his arrival. Didn’t bother me enough to not stay here. I was not prepared however for the large murals covering many walls that depict aboriginal and native people in a cartoonish and less than human way. Maybe reproductions from historical books but they have no place in a hotel common area in this day and age. A textbook, museum? As a teaching moment maybe for a dark past? Not in a hotel. It bothered me to the point of anger the first night. We will come, and never return. However I feel for the staff who have to pass these every day. 4) hotel pool specifically listed as family friendly. It’s very clear that it’s only a lap pool. Furthermore they separate boys from girks, including kids who are told to enter on their own on opposite ends of the floor. Luckily a staff member…

The toilet was clogged when we first arrived from the previous guests before us. The TV did not work the first night and when we called the front desk to ask someone to come fix it, but no one came. So we had to go downstairs and make a second request for it to be fixed. Also, one night, we tried to place a breakfast order with room service so it would arrive at a specific time, but they said they would not take room service orders for the following morning. The valet parking was $40 per night and they did not offer another parking option; they said we would have to park elsewhere in the city if we didn’t valet and the valet attendants didn’t carry change for tipping. Finally the Crow’s Nest restaurant was closed Sundays and Mondays.

The staff worked to fix my issue from last week when my flight was cancelled. I am not sure if I will ever see it but appreciate the efforts they put into my issue. On the hotel, everything was perfect. I am glad I chose the captain cook!

Service was very good. Front office run really well the front office manager. I think his name was Ross I could be wrong was amazing really helped us out with room service which was really messed up by the way don’t count on Fletchers. Their small and overcrowded housekeeping was amazing, clean, detailed we asked for extra towels, extra coffee, extra creamers she was very responsive and so was the housekeeping, main line as was the maid the restaurant for breakfast I forget the name was amazing. The servers are all teammates, helping each other. It was great food great service.

The room was very comfortable. Walking distance to shopping food venues.

Great downtown location. Friendly, helpful staff. Wonderful views of Cook Inlet from my room.

The property is very central to downtown Anchorage. The hotel is very nicely maintained and beautifully decorated. Would highly recommend the hotel to anyone thinking about staying in the area.

Excellent location in downtown Anchorage. We were able to walk to all of our planned activities and dining plans. The hotel felt very clean and also had very good dining options on site. I liked seeing the bay out the window.

The dining options inside the hotel were excellent

Everything was good Except room service. There was an answering machine that said someone would can you back. I left two messages, but never got the call back or dinner.

The. Captian Cook did not disappoint. Still one of the best hotels in Anchorage. Dinner at the crows nest was outstanding.

The service was exceptional! Also an experience for my friend and I. This was the first time staying at Captain Hook. The food at The Crow’s Nest was amazing, the massages were so relaxing and much needed. Thank you everyone who was of service to us.

We had an amazing deluxe suite with a lot of wonderful scenery. Coffee machine worked well. The staff was excellent and timely. Had dinner at Fletcher's which was delicious.

Great room, great hotel. Best in Anchorage! Always wonderfully decorated for the holidays. Really good dining options, even if they're overpriced. Love staying here.

Great customer service. The whales tale restaurant was amazing. The curry chicken nachos are amazing.
