Carlyle Hotel

Nicely decorated place. Very "old fashioned" in a good way. I thought it was interesting to see a place like this. Location is good, near freeway/expressway, which is why I picked this place. Limited parking, but this was not a problem, because I returned early and left early.

Parking is in a garage on the bottom floor. Spaces are small and difficult to get in and out. No street or lot parking for larger vehicles. Elevator can be used to lobby and other floors. Room is nice and clean. Water is warm. Soaps are in dispensers only and empty when we were there. A couple bottles of lotion by the restroom mirror. Toilet flushes well with 2 water modes and not loud. Blankets are sufficient. Thermostat in room works well to regulate temperature. Coffee and tea options in lobby. Microwave in room, but we didn’t use. Bed is comfortable enough. Desk is a good size. Chair by bed is comfortable for one person seating with feet rest.

Access to freeway, covered parking, walkable dining and Starbucks next door.

Property was nice. Parking underground appreciated. Just a little tricky with traffic to get in and out.

The ground-level parking garage is very convenient. Helpful staff.

This hotel was a good value for the price. Rooms were spacious, dark, quiet, air conditioning worked well with small fridge, microwave, and Keurig. parking garage was under the building and a bit tricky to access due to the configuration of the streets.

Clean room, cordial staff. You have to look closely to pull into the garage off Camden.

Great atmosphere, had an older feel compared to the newer hotels, but it was very clean and spacious. The underground parking was excellent.

Very quiet, parking was a little tight over the weekend, clean.

Furnishings, cleanliness, locality

I’m happy to say that this is our favorite hotel in the West San Jose/Campbell area. It is clean, bright and beautiful inside. The beds are extremely comfortable. The bathrooms are spotlessly clean and the staff is excellent. When we arrived the gentleman working behind the desk went out of his way to make sure that a room was exactly what we wanted. It’s the only place I stay when I’m in town. Bravo Carlyle!

Super clean and super quite I envy my stayed

Wonderfully retro vibe. Super clean and quiet despite the location being on a major roadway leading to the highway. Bed was really comfortable.

The lobby was really cute, nice and clean. Got to the room and there were stains on the chairs, the wallpaper was peeling off of the wall, you can see holes in the wall where the TV or something used to be mounted. The air conditioner was making a gnarly noise. Just looking at the bed as soon as you walked in you can see two giant dents in it where it was worn out. Bathroom had cracked tiles and stains on the floor and in the tub. I literally just walked out of the hotel and went somewhere else.

Room reeked of cigarette smoke.

This property is in an accessible location, food joints close by as well. I stayed for 3 days, one of the issues I had was that the hot water was not available for a shower which was very inconvenient for me. I notified the staff, I am not sure if they fixed but the same thing happened the next day as well. Not the best in cleanliness but was ok.

Not great with detailed cleaning. Found a syringe in the closet, then lighter and partially smoked cigarette hidden on top of the microwave on the coffee/tea stand. I brought both of this issues to the front desk. The person to took my syringe just put it in the trash. I suggested put it in an empty water bottle, or if there are a lot of meth guests, consider getting a sharps container.

I was a bit unsure when I arrived in area of the hotel. Lots of run down buildings and old store fronts. I guess u could call it a "sketchy" area at first impressions. However, it turned out to a "Diamond in the Rough". Spacious lobby, very spacious room and hallways. Very accomodating staff and probably the quietest room I have ever occupied and I have stayed in some very nice places. I definitely will book the Carlyle again if the need arises again.

The light switched were old and needed replacing. The lights in the bathroom would flicker and shut down a few moments after being turned on. There was a hot tub that did not work.

Very comfortable beds with nice sheets, excellent up-to-date TV, jacuzzi tub, fridge, microwave, and of course WiFi. Oddly, there is no alarm clock. I stay there frequently and my only complaint is that the carpets needs to be replaced.

It's a very quiet and comfortable hotel. The rooms are very clean and the bed quite comfortable with nice sheets and plenty of pillows. The TV is modern and offers a decent variety of viewing options.

I stayed at this property for 4 nights so I really got a good feel of it. I used to pass this hotel by on my daily commute to work, have since moved out of the area but figured it would be neat to actually see the inside of the building. This hotel is very clean, and looks very well cared for - in a "sweat-equity" kind of way. The wallpaper is patched with a similar print as the original, the carpet somewhat torn, old fixtures and furniture, in generally it looks like no money has been used to update the facility since the early 2000's BUT it is VERY clean which shows regular effort and care, if not additional investment in the facility. The walls are pretty thin so you hear loud neighbors easily. Also, the first floor has an interesting back patio/area. The rooms have sliding glass doors out to the patio space, but the entire floor is joined as one large space so I felt the need to keep the shades drawn so I didn't wake up to someone staring into my room from the patio. Overall, staff was friendly, and the room rates were a great value. I'd stay here again!

Cool and interesting small hotel. Large rooms. Wide terraces. Looks like it aimed to be someone's idea of luxury once upon a time. Lots of gold fixtures, faux marble Greco-Roman statues standing around. Jet tub. Land line wall phone in the bathroom. Cuz business can't wait!

Staff was friendly. The room was spacious and the bed was comfortable.

The TV channel options are horrible, the picture quality on numerous channels make them unwatchable, and the remote control does not do what it is supposed to, making it almost worthless.

My goto for my local travel when I am on call. Great customer service, friendly and always professional... even with the occational 2am check-ins! Like the quaint victorian era vibe, within walking distance of a number of fast food places.

I had a weird encounter with one of the employees regarding my service animal. They asked to see my documentation saying I need one, even though per the ADA I can’t be asked for documentation. Then they told me I needed to pay $35 for a pet fee, even though she’s a service animal and they can’t charge pet fees for a service animal. Also, they don’t allow pets so I don’t know why they would have a pet fee. It made no sense. Also, the rooms are old and kind of creepy. It was clean though, but I wasn’t impressed with the staff.

If I had to rate this hotel based off of the building and things in the room then I would give 5 stars. To start, we pulled into the nice garage under the building where we found plenty of spaces to park. Then we went up to the lobby and I loved the red victorian style decor and cute breakfast tables. The room was huge! Plenty of space and chairs for sitting. The bathroom was good sized with a shower/jacuzzi tub combo , closet, refrigerator, pod coffee maker and microwave. Now, I skipped the check in part because that is what brought it down to 4 stars. I seriously doubt the guy who ran the hotel and checked us in has ever taken a class on hospitality because he had none. He would not speak to me in full sentences and when I did not understand he would just repeat the same word louder and with a rude scowl. He said, "deposit" I said what? and instead of explaining that he needed a card for a deposit, letting me know how much it would be and when it would be returned to my account, He just said the one word over like I was a stupid child. After getting in to the room I sat down on the comfy chair only to find a dog chew. When I later told him about that he said NO, there are no dogs here only service. No apology for the cleaning staff missing that. Next day I went down and asked for an extra towel and I was told by a kid at the desk that he would send one up. Five hours later we got back to our room around 10pm and not only was there no towel but our room was not cleaned.

Amazing room, amazing staff. Manager is incredible and helpful. Will always come back.

My first choice when coming into town. Front desk is always accommodating upon arrival. I normally arrive before check-in and I have always been able to check in early with no extra fee's. Staff is courteous and helpful.

Loved having a parking garage that was free. I travelled solo with my 1 year old and was already overwhelmed , but the Carlyle made it easy. I did have an unexpected issue with my room on day 1 but they quickly got me into another room ( a bigger suite ) and helped move all my belongings. Overall, the hotel was very clean and well kept. All linens were free of stains and crisp. Bathrooms were clean. There was some obvious wear due to the hotels age , but for the prices they charge , totally understandable how upgrades aren’t the priority yet. The elevator was down for maintenance on my check out date but the maintenance man was kind enough to come carry my bags down the stairs since I was carrying 2 babies ! Loves ; 1: shower worked great. 2: rooms were clean and free of major disrepair of stains 3: the gentleman at the front desk was very nice and accommodating 4: I could hear nothing through the walls ! Maybe because my child was loud enough to drown it out 😂 Few things I didn’t love ; 1: the air freshener pumping through the building every few minutes. In scent sensitive so I did have a headache my entire trip. 2: both of my TVs were hard to operate because the remote signal to the TV wasn’t picking up. WOULD STAY AGAIN

The property was clean and well-maintained. The staff was friendly during check-in. Allowed a 12pm checkout instead of the normal 11am. Check-in staff forgot to tell check-out staff. Check-out staff calling our room phone every 15 minutes after 11am, even though we communicated twice we were given a 12pm check-out time. Called four times, last 2 times, I did not bother to answer phone. Left at noon, as agreed. I was charged $100 for property damage. When I ask for details, all five emails go unanswered after a response to my first request for a receipt (which they did not send). The stay was fine, just horrible customer service and shady business practices. I am still waiting to dispute the $100 property damage charge! Very poor customer relations.

I booked the Carlyle based on at the pictures and reviews. While they were all fairly positive, I was skeptical. The price was much less than other hotels in the area. We were pleasantly surprised. The location lacks charm. But being only a block from the highway was perfect for getting where we needed to easily. The room was quiet,very clean, and the beds comfortable. The kerig coffee maker with pods in the room was an added bonus. The hotel management was also very quick to respond to a text I had with questions. An excellent choice for the price.

Interior environment clean and comfortable. Room comfortable, bed excellent, bathroom excellent, parking are well lit and secure. Area around hotel is borderline with lots of fast food but no good restaurants in easy walking distance.

Busy area

The staff were excellent, the included continental breakfast was good, and the only negative was the patio. We had a slider onto the “shared” patio - I thought that would mean shared with the room next door. But it was shared among all the ground floor rooms on that side, and there was not a single chair on which to sit. So, not sure why they even have a patio.

An okay place for a great price. Free parking. Located close to a freeway. Comfortable bed. In-room refrigerator and microwave. No breakfast.

There has been a change of ownership and I believe the service has suffered. Used to have free continental breakfast and now only coffee. Dissapointed as this was a plus.

I enjoy the Victorian decore. The large room and high ceiling. Access to outside balcony on 1st flr north side. There was a change of ownership and now no continental breakfast which used to be big plus Wish they would bring it back!

Room clean. Staff courteous. First room they put in reeked of cigar smoke, but they were willing to give me another room. Very little amenities. No free breakfast. Not in a good location for walk to stores or eating establishments. Price reasonable for a high priced area.

Fantastic hotel! Convenient location next to an Indian restaurant and a Salvadorian pupusa place a 5 minute walk away. Very safe area, and the hotel room was quiet despite being on a busy street. Our room was nice and clean with comfy beds and blackout curtains. There was even a big bathtub with jets that was perfect. Service was very friendly and let us check out late. The breakfast was basic but a great way to start the day. Would definitely stay here again!

Relatively short drive to most key places in the area. Very limited "breakfast". Good value for the money. Good service.
