Carmel Wayfarer Inn

The room was spacious, featuring a comfortable king-size bed. The fireplace was a plus and easy to use. The Wi-Fi was a little sketchy at times, but I could still connect to my cell phone. Coffee in the common area would have been a plus. Overall, very nice with an excellent location and parking.

Wayfarer Inn is in an excellent location at a good price. The Inn itself is run down, with unstable handrails on steps in the center. Shampoos are in tiny sample packets, soaps are as small as possible and there are no tissues at all. So bring your own soap, hair products and Kleenex. Towels had holes in them! (Three different towels.) Heat and fireplace work great. Quiet, once dogs settle in and people on second floor go to bed. Office is open very limited hours so you get an envelope taped to the door with your key. There are ice buckets, but we never found an ice machine. The rate was good, location good, but far from luxury. On site parking is nice if you get there early. Place needs some TLC and it would be a jewel.

We enjoyed our 2 night stay. It’s a simple hotel and reasonably price. Location is very convenient, walking distance to shopping and dining. They had coffee and donuts in the morning. Not a lot of parking space, but there are street parking. I would stay here again

We had such a lovely stay at the inn. We came after office hours, but they had a simple check in available. We loved the partial ocean view. The doors to the rooms open up on top to let in the cool air. The fireplace in the room was such a nice addition. The courtyard also had a fireplace with tables and chairs. The room had almost everything we needed- it didn’t have a microwave, so I would suggest to the owners to add one in each room. Parking was ok- almost always full, but there were a couple spots on the street too. A short walk to the shops in town and the beach! Perfect location on a quiet street. Overall a wonderful stay and highly recommend!

This was a cute little place to stay, centrally located, and phenomenal customer service. The parking was limited when we arrived on a Saturday evening. Aside from that, we enjoyed our stay.

The Wayfarer was fine for our needs. Amenities were very basic (starchy sheets and towels, etc) but the room was large and they are dog friendly. The location was great- everything was walkable. They had an in-room air conditioner, which was loud but helped cool off the room (it was warm during our stay). Parking is limited but we always found a spot. The keys are old fashioned (it's an older motel) which was perfectly fine but I wish there was a deadbolt option on the doors.

We always have a nice time here. There are no amenities but there are many just a short walk. The staff is very nice too.

We checked in and the room smelled of bleach . The bed covers didn’t look clean . Bathroom cleaned but mold stains cracked tiles badly & only one towel I probably wouldn’t use . Windows wouldn’t open .

The floor was so dirty it made our socks black within minutes. The bathroom stunk of an old mop and sewer.

I hate leaving negative reviews. I review a lot, and this is my second negative review. I feel I need to say something to warn travelers about this hotel. Like many, you may want to book this hotel because it is one of the cheapest in Carmel. However, if you get there and your room is filthy, as mine was, you need to either stay and put up with it, or leave. Carmel is very expensive and you might have a hard time finding another room at or close to the rate you booked somewhere else. It could really put a damper on your weekend. I get the room is cheaper than some of the other hotels. That doesn’t mean the management can skimp on cleaning and basic hygiene for the rooms. I’m not complaining about the cardboard-like soap chips they give you in a plastic basket, or the dripping paint on the walls, or the broken heater, or disheveled fireplace, which we couldn’t figure out how to turn on. I’m really unhappy about the disgusting comforter and moldy bathtub plug. Neither had been cleaned in a long time. I didn’t discover these things until late at night when we were cold. In the morning I told the gentleman in the office. He listened politely, was courteous and apologized, but didn’t offer to refund or reduce my rate. I really don’t love paying full price for a filthy room. If I had discovered these things before I had gotten in bed, I would have checked out and gone somewhere else. I had the creeps all night thinking about their cleaning standards.

Excellent location and room was large and comfortable. However, the floors were so dirty that our feet became grimy. Floor of the shower became black as soon as we stepped in and rinsed our feet. Had to wear slippers inside at all times, but hard to do with a child.

Clean room, great staff and great location!

Terrific location, but the inn and rooms can use an upgrade. Parking in the area was scarce and we had to wait for the night clerk to leave so we could use his parking spot. Also, the floors were dirty and there was actually sand in both of the queen beds! We had to brush off both of them. Weird!

Our room a large king with ocean view.....was DIRTY. The view does not make up for lack of cleaning.

I like the proximity to downtown and surrounding areas, however we were surprised that the "private parking" only has 10 designated spaces for the 18 rooms available. Being as we arrived on a Saturday made it a challenge to find a close enough area to park to unload our baggage. It did get easier as the week progressed. The rooms were clean but could have been mopped prior to our arrival. The floors were not as clean as we would have liked as our socks became dirty immediately. One bathroom sink was clogged from what looked like debris from a tree but the staff was great and maintenance took care of it immediately. Overall a great stay with plenty of space and somewhere I would consider staying again.

Lovely service. Location was a bit noisy with windows next to sidewalk. Thin walls and there was a very obnoxious drunk lady chatting on speaker phone and we couod hear everyword. Overall a lovely place

We had a lovely stay. My best friend and I stayed for one night. Check in was easy, a key was left for us at the office with instructions and WiFi access. The room was clean and comfortable. We had a two room, two queen room on the ground floor. We liked the layout of the beds. We both could watch our own tv and see each other. The rooms are recently remodeled and look great. We met the owner at check out and he was very friendly. He told us about his plans to add a fire pit and seating for guest outdoors! The inn was very close, walking distance to restaurants and the beach! I plan to return with my family! I will note that sound traveled easily so I heard our neighbor snoring for a bit and in the morning, we heard people walking around and down the stairs. That didn’t take away from our good experience.

My only complaint was the noise from traffic otherwise it was completely comfortable.

We stayed in the “executive” 2 bedroom unit. It was clean, modern and looked to be newly renovated. The hotel/motel is located perfectly for shops, restaurants and walking down to the beach. We also went to the theater to watch a musical and that was a short half mile walk too. No frills, clean place to stay - you are out all day so this was perfect for us - two adults. Fridge but no microwave in room. We did self check in and check out so did not interacted with staff.

Quaint Inn located within walking distance of many shops and restaurants. While a little distant from the water itself, our room on the second floor had a view of the ocean. The fireplace in the room was a nice feature! We would stay here again.

Great price, 2 easy blocks to all the action, and seamless check in. Rooms are fine. Clean, comfortable, spacious. It's a bit spartan on amenities (eg, no microwave) but for the price and considering how expensive Carmel is overall, it's a spectacular value.

I’d forgotten that I’d previously stayed at this property in around 1 year. The room and had been remodeled in the interim. The hotel offers complementary parking which is great. We also had an ocean view which is amazing. For the price, you can’t beat it. I do think that there are some issues which are a little hazardous like handrails for going upstairs to the room; there’s one on one side, but not on both. The hot water was out the first night but we mentioned it & they gave us a partial refund. The owner is very nice. The other front desk staff are abrupt until check-in time.

Good value for location. Quiet. No staff after 4 and checkin is at 3. Small window to check in. Ice machine is locked in office. Too late to realize no ice machine access after 1 hour of checkin.

It was a very quaint and cute. The staff is fantastic. I lost an item and they were able to return it to me, very grateful. I would come back again.

Om (on-site manager) was fabulous from the second we walked in - easiest check in process and had the radiated happiness our entire stay. The location is nestled perfectly on the more northern part of Carmel - walkable to every area. We were just one black from Casanovas and had a wonderful time shopping and enjoying all the local businesses nearby. The only downside we have is that on the weekend it took us 30+ mins to find a parking spot. The property does have a few stalls, however it is first come first serve. If you like to be in a safe/quiet area, but still can walk to any part of town - this is your spot. Hospitality is great. Will definitely stay here again!

The staff was professional, courteous and most helpful - especially with help in checking in at a late time.

I got very sick and was unable to make the trip. I called to cancel TWO days before my arrival, nobody answered the phone two different times I called. No voice mail. Used chat to send them a message which they didn’t respond to and when they finally called me back, they wouldn’t make an exception to cancel my reservation, therefore charging me for the room I didn’t stay in. Rude and I’ll never book a room here again.

If you come early, the owner greets you in-person. The property is beautiful, rooms nice and clean. And it's not too expensive. I'm grateful for the great experience.

Staff was very courteous and gave great pointers during our weekend stay, it felt like a mom & pop run business where customer satisfaction was always the aim. Mike was great and we'll definitely stay there again due to the prime location and convenience to the shopping, dining and the beach. There was an issue where we mistakenly double-booked and Mike was so understanding and gave us a break. Most other places would've just gave us the standard lip service but Mike definitely worked with us to where both parties were satisfied. Great Customer Service!! We'll definitely be staying there again.

Room was clean. Manager was short/dismissive the housekeeper was rude and not helpful when asked for fresh towels on morning of check out. There is a very loose hand rail at the patio by check in office. Not safe.

The building is older, but the room was clean, quiet and comfortable. Walking distance to shops, restaurants and the beach. Safe neighborhood and the owners were very nice. Will definitely visit again!

This is our go to in Carmel. Owner is GEEAT!..Location is perfect. We park our car for the whole trip unless we drive into Monterey for dinner.

The location was great, within walking distance to bars, cafes, shopping, etc. Although the premises had a car park it was over subscribed and you would loose your spot if you went out. Parking on the street was difficult to find. For the price you are paying - breakfast should've been included. The place was clean and cosy. The negative was that you couldn't check-in until 3pm even thought the room was available.

Property was nice with beautiful courtyard. Staff was friendly and kind. We did not have hot water at night (although it was back in the morning). Coffee service was not until 8 am. It would have been nice to have a coffee maker in the room. Tub was dilapidated. Otherwise, clean and quiet.

i liked the price,i did not like that had no breakfast of any kind at all.

I called 6 times to tell them we’re late because of traffic. No one answered and no answering machine. I had to contact expedia. They were very helpful but couldn’t contact facility. No microwave or coffee maker in room. The coffee in the office was bad. I don’t recommend this inn
