La Playa Hotel

Beautiful grounds, nice rooms, great beds and shower. Excellent breakfast. All marred by unrelenting construction noise (jack hammers, compressors, drilling, demolition noise, hammering and banging ALL DAY LONG) throughout our stay. Could not enjoy the beautiful grounds or the pool, which was the primary reason we booked the hotel. Very disappointing and sad for us given how much we had looked forward to our holiday in a beautiful hotel with beautiful grounds with a pool. Complained to staff and got stone faced silence. No concession or even an apology.

If it’s location, you’re looking for this is it. Two blocks from the Main St., Ocean Avenue and two blocks from the ocean beach. A beautiful old style hotel with Restaurant. The pool is warm maybe even a bit too warm but then we went at the end of March. Parking may be a challenge but doable. Definitely a five star hotel$$$

La Playa's location is great--close to the beach and can walk to Carmel's shopping area. The hotel's garden/outdoor area is gorgeous and the breakfast is fantastic!

The property does not have enough parking spaces for all the guests, I was created by a staff member telling me I had to find parking on my own. I don't feel this is acceptable with the price being charged per night. Plus parking is problem overall in Carmel. The hotel needs to arrange to have parking for all guests.

Great gem in Carmel, very nicely decorated property with friendly staff and close by down town Carmel. House car available to take you to nearby restaurants in the evening.

The staff and service was incredible! It was nice to have shuttle service into town when going out to dinner. We also loved that it was easy walking distance to the beach.

The hotel is in a wonderful location in the outskirts of Carmel by the sea. It’s a small boutique hotel. The lobby has a lounge area and a fireplace. It is somewhat expensive. When you check in, you are offered some tastes of various local wines. We checked in on Sunday and there was a jazz trio in the bar, which was great fun. They serve chocolate chip cookies at 7:30 every evening In the lobby. The beds are great. The buffet breakfast in the morning which is included in the hotel price is amazing. We did this to celebrate my partners 80th birthday and we had a great time.

We stayed at La playa in Carmel for 4 days it was absolutely magnificent. The hotel was clean and cute the staff was very very accommodating helped us get to dinners every night with transportation. We absolutely loved the morning breakfast it was insane best breakfast we've ever had in a hotel hands down

One of a kind location. Live jazz music at budd’s the bar was delightful. Garden and the outdoor setup was gorgeous. Included breakfast was quite nice. Hotel is 2 blovks from beach and 7-8 minute walk to downtown. The only issue was that walls are thin and you can hear your neighbours especially upstairs.

This is a beautiful property. The rooms are small--at least the room we had. The bedding is great. The property and location are wonderful. Beautiful breakfast buffet. Would definitely stay again.

Beautiful newly renovated rooms were tiny but so cute! Grounds were absolutely stunning and well maintained. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The champnage breakfast is included and offers a variety of options including made to order omelets and eggs cooked to your liking. They so offer many complimentary snacks and drinks thru the day and evening. My only negative is the weather, so unable to use the pool. Obviously not the hotels fault! Will definitely stay again.

Rooms small and cramped. Could hear the guests on floor above walking and moving around.

There was no room, no bureau to put one’s clothing. There was a huge bar instead!

The room was very nice but very small. The dining and the food were both top notch. The views from the dining area first rate and the Champagne brunch an absolute hit. There was also complimentary wine from 5 to 7 PM while checking in. That started the stay off great and it stayed that way. Staff very helpful and friendly.

Fantastic place to stay when visiting Carmel. Courtesy transportation in the evenings is great and all staff very polite and attentive. Only minor downside was the size of the room we stayed. Would stay again and choose a larger room!

Nice hotel in an outstanding location. Enjoyed Buds and breakfast. Bathrooms are well done but quite tight, due to original build.

Property is quite nice good location and good bones. Restaurant is nice. Food was great. Service at restaurant was great. Front Desk did not honor my reservation. Said it did not exist and was very difficult. Said call Expedia and figure it out. Had to really escalate to just even stay there.

Front desk area was especially helpful with bags, suggestions and a ride into town!! I really enjoyed the beautiful breakfast they laid out every morning. The staff is exceptional and we hope to visit again soon!!

We requested a room with handicap amenities for my mom that is disabled. I was informed that they were full to capacity. We were assigned a room at the back of the hotel (102) and the front desk pretended that a person with a walker could take more than eleven deep steps. No compassion from the front desk staff. Luckily the bell person ( helping with the luggage) had some sense and took us to the back of the hotel. I think his names is James. Event lets us borrow a wheelchair. Staff at the bar/restaurant super helpful.Housekeeping staff excellent. Front desk more than one staff need new training. At least a smile once in a while . The driest staff ever. Beautiful landscaping good location. The parking need handicap spaces.

My husband and I were blown away by how wonderful this property was. Not only is it beautiful with wonderful views of the ocean and a perfect setting, but the stuff went above and beyond in every area. From the front desk to the wait staff to just any employee walking down the hallway, we felt special and they anticipated our needs without us saying anything. We’ve traveled a lot and honestly this is the best service we’ve ever had!

The young man that was very helpful with the transportation. He delivered us, picked us up and delivered food. I apologize for not remembering his name.

This place is an amazing must while in Carmel. The redesign is absolutely beautiful. The staff treat you like family and attempt to anticipate your every need. The staff make this place like a movie. It’s almost magical being onsite here. The manager is doing an awesome job with the team. It’s one of the best hotel staff I’ve come across in a while.

We recently stayed at La Playa in Carmel for a birthday getaway and had a mixed experience. On the positive side, the hotel is charming and well-maintained. The room was clean, and the breakfast buffet was a highlight—fresh, varied, and a great way to start the day. The location is also excellent, with easy access to downtown Carmel and the beach. The staff were very kind and welcoming throughout our stay. However, there were a few disappointments that affected our overall experience. Upon arrival, no one offered assistance with our luggage, which was surprising given the hotel’s reputation and price point. The walls were quite thin—we could hear doors slamming and footsteps from the room above, which made it hard to fully relax. We had also notified the hotel in advance that we’d be bringing our dog and paid a pet fee accordingly. The website indicated we would receive a garden patio room, but we were placed in a different room that didn’t match what was advertised. I spoke to a man at the front desk who said he would look into it, but we never heard back or received any follow-up, which was especially disappointing given the added cost. Overall, while there were definitely some enjoyable aspects of our stay, the lack of attentiveness and the disconnect between the advertised experience and what we actually received left us underwhelmed—particularly for a special occasion.

Great boutique hotel in carmel - close to ocean and town with lovely grounds and a great inclusive breakfast. Reminds me a little of a Belmond type hotel - not quite as upmarket but not at all bad given the price

The hotel is truly excellent. Great rooms, beautiful property, 5 minute walk to the beach, 10 minute walk to the restaurants and shops.

I like this place because the location is 5 mins walk to the beach and 10 mins walk to downtown. Also 10 mins drive to Los Lobos Reserve. The staff are really nice. The hotel is newly renovated and honestly I love this hotel. It gives cozy vibe and aesthetic is pretty nice. The breakfast is phenomenal I didn’t get to try all of it but the burrito and waffles are Must have. There’s freshly baked cookies at night and alcoholic drinks in the afternoon. We had free wine and birthday card when we entered our room. It was really nice touch. They use Le Labo brand for toiletries. Overall 10/10 and we cannot wait to come back. Thank you for making my birthday weekend special.

Really lovely hotel. We had a beautiful ocean view framed by the window in our room. The architecture is based on California Mission style, a dash of California history. The staff was kind, courteous and knowledgable. Treat yourself to the good life in charming downtown Carmel-by-the-Sea!

Close to ocean ave in Carmel

We stayed here for two nights for a little weekend getaway and oh my god it was amazing!! My boyfriend and I loved the wine and sangria we were greeted with when we checked in, we loved the aesthetic and how cute and beautiful our room was. The cookies they had at night were really good as well. There’s so many lounge areas to just grab a book, drink, laptop and relax. The staff were so attentive and really friendly. The breakfast was so good and had so much to choose from. It was anything from the omelette and waffle station to chia seed pudding, avocado or salmon toast, eggs and bacon burritos, and so much more. It was a walk away from the beach and the small shops. The hotel is an experience itself and I can’t wait to come back again.

LaPlaya Hotel is wonderful. Beautiful grounds, friendly and helpful staff. Fantastic breakfast including made to order omelets and waffles. Bar onsite and a fabulous view on the terrace. This is an absolutely lovely place. Excellent location...Close to the beach and close to downtown. Complimentary shuttle service and fresh baked chocolate chip cookies in the evening. I think I found my favorite place to stay in lovely Carmel.

The amenities are well worth the fee. Loved the wine in the afternoons and cookies in the evening. Transportation to and from the downtown area was perfect since the are many hills in the area. The champagne breakfast was excellent - only suggestion would be to have protein available as stand alone item. If you want bacon or sausage it’s only available in the form of a breakfast burrito or omelette.

Wonderful grounds. Dinner on the veranda at Bub’s was the highlight of our trip to Carmel. Great room. And for me…great coffee.

Our stay was beautiful! The hotel is stunning, with a friendly and attentive staff, eager to make your stay a happy one. The buffet breakfast with omelette and waffle station was fabulous. The hotel is an historical building so the rooms and bathrooms maintain the original footprint and size, which prohibited any enlargement of the very small bathroom. But given all the other perks La Playa offers we survived the small space and would definitely return.

This charming hotel was a perfect get away for our anniversary. It conveniently located to Carmel By the Sea and Pebble Beach. Staff was very friendly. The brunch provided is excellent. I really enjoyed dinner and drinks at Bud’s.

I think that everyone should stay at the La Playa Hotel when in Carmel. It has all the things. Its beautiful! The service is wonderful! The bountiful buffet breakfast is amazing. Buds Bar is so cozy and cute. Welcome glass of wine or sangria! Yummy warm chocolate chip cookies in the evening! Transportation to nearby restaurants. There is a pool but too cold in February! Walkable to the Gorgeous beach and shopping. What else could you ask for? A definite recommend!

This was the most magical hotel experience I've ever had. We had an ocean view room and arrived just in time for sunset. Just gorgeous. The design of the room was excellent (the custom bar/wardrobe was beautiful), the staff very helpful, and the complimentary champagne breakfast was out of this world. Best hotel breakfast I've ever seen. We will probably make a stay at La Playa an annual tradition after having such a wonderful experience.
