Cottage Inn by the Sea

There was an added $10 per day parking fee. Which is strange, since it is essentially us a motel layout. Very minimal on amenities.

The room was spacious, 2 King beds! Roomy bathroom with ample counter space. Good water pressure in the tub/shower combo. Easy access off the parking lot. Comfortable bed. Loved the gas fireplace! It put off quite a bit of heat which was nice for the chilly evenings/mornings. Nice view of the beach/ocean from the patio area behind the pool. About 5 min walk down to the actual beach with LOTS of stairs. It's an older facility, so there was some visible wear & tear. Only complaints are the floor was pretty dirty - crumbs under the table and chairs, stuff stuck to the flooring, goldfish cracker under the bed frame. Also, the windows were difficult to maneuver and the screens were bent.

They would’ve let us know in advance that the hot tub was out of commission. We were looking forward to sitting in the hot tub after our hike.

The hotel was super cozy and beautiful location. I wish the electric parking was better maintained. we saw the same two cars parked there our entire stay and we were unable to use the chargers. The fire place had amazing views however one had trouble staying on. The staff was super friendly and incredibly helpful in suggesting things to do in the area. The room was perfectly clean and cozy!

The staff were very accommodating when the spa was out of service during our entire stay.

Property is a little worn..,but super clean and comfortable. We really enjoyed our stay. Easy access to the beach by a stairway. Fireplace (gas) in our room. Refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker in room. Fire pits and chairs overlooking the ocean. Nice pool and hot tub. Friendly and helpful staff. Doable walk to main area with shops, restaurants, pier and the main beach. Loved our stay.

Stayed 5/11 2025. We come to this property when we come to Avila! Rooms have fireplaces, mini fridges & microwaves. But not sure if it’s in all. We just had the standard so I assume they might all have it. We love how quiet it is, we love the patio with several fireplaces & wide oceanfront view. Beach access by stairs (you’ll feel the burn walking back up though! My only negative review is the pool area. Clean, but there are no towels in the pool area, and not much shade. There was only 1 umbrella when we went. Seating available & wheelchair lift for the jacuzzi. Other than that it is a nice little pool, but could get crowded with more than 3 families depending on the size.

We always enjoy this place. Thought parking was part of the deal. Got surcharged on parking. Did not like that.

You could put them both on and they sort of cancelled each other out, though not very ecological. Generally clean and comfortable. There were some nice amenities like pool, hot tub and fire pits although not really enough for the number of people who were staying there so we didn't get a chance to try them, at least not this particular date. I'm a little disappointed in service but overall they tried to be nice.

I had the ocean view room, and it was absolutely incredible! The fire pits, the breathtaking view, and the soothing sound of the waves lulling me to sleep and waking me up were all so delightful. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the fireplace added a cozy ambiance to the room. Being able to easily walk down to the beach made morning beach strolls easy! Additionally, since I had an electric vehicle, I was pleased to find that there were a couple of charging stations available, making it a convenient stay. The staff was also incredibly lovely and accommodating, ensuring that my experience was nothing short of exceptional.

Our three nights at the Cottage Inn were fabulous. Room was very clean, beds comfy and wonderful bedding. Staff were friendly and super responsive. Check in and out were seamless. A beautiful place in a gorgeous seaside area. We will definitely be back.

I liked the location of this property. The front desk staff that was working during the day I arrived was friendly. Upon checking out, I was not asked about my stay. I wanted to let them know that the only thing I didn't like was the fact that there was a lot of mold on one of the windows and in the bathroom ceiling plus window.

Room was spacious but bathroom had mold in the grout and the bathtub wouldn’t drain.

The staff were friendly and welcoming! The cafe and lobby were clean and inviting. The room was very dirty. I used their bath soap and wash cloth to literally wipe off the walls. Doors had so much dirt buildup around the handles it was obvious they hadn't been wiped off in a very long time! The high ceilings were great but very long cob webs (prob about a foot long) hanging directly over one of the beds in room 622. The table was so busted and wobbly it was unusable. They were very nice and prompt when I asked if someone could look at it. Mngr even said she was bringing someone from a sister property to do so. It was clearly a heavy, round top attempted to be attached to a different base. Couldn't be fixed. Took two to roll it out. They brought in an entirely different style table, but hey, it was useable! Most wall stains came out (two rounds of soapy water from the sink). The bathroom door didn't latch so a gate style, heavy duty drop-in-pin style lock was added higher up. Door was missing paint in middle section about a foot or so up/down and all the way across (left/right) from scraping the pocket door frame. The views were nice. Bedskirt had a gnarly red/pink stain on it. The view was nice; no beach access. Overall janky for the price, but it seems like all are like that ever since pandemic. I'd probably stay again, but bring cleaning supplies with me. I spent about 90min cleaning. Oh yeah, safe didn't work and 1 of the windows wouldn't close/lock but on 2nd floor.

The property was beautiful. Our room was beautiful. One of the windows didn’t open all the way, a blind was broken on that window. The windows were gross they were so dirty and spattered with something white. Spiderwebs in every corner of the windows. I like that they have a number to text housekeeping and front desk however when we asked for coffee and towels we didn’t receive them. Overall this was a very expensive stay, and I was disappointed.

Close to downtown. I didn't like the hair in my sink upon check in.

Check in and check out was easy and quick. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. Especially like that, it had a two king bed option and after I call to the hotel, the front desk saved us a convenient room on the first floor, which made it easy to move our luggage and not have to climb the stairs. The only thing that needed attention was the bathroom. The sink area had been renovated, but the toilet and the shower are very old. The toilet is low like in an elementary school and was especially bothersome when my husband sat! The shower had good water pressure, but it did not have a handheld option and it smelled like mildew especially when the water was turned on and the ceiling did show some spots of mildew in the paint. We didn’t get to use the pool or spend any time by the beach, unfortunately. It has a very pretty view from the pool. We did not rent a room that had a view as we didn’t have time to use it while in town for a wedding and a need to rush back to the airport.

Room was ok. Mold in tub and on closet doors. Not that clean. All 3 chairs were stained. They need to clean and remove mold and rust.

We were abke to book this stay at the last minute and glad we did. The room was nice, even had a fireplace. We had a deck with chairs to watch the ocean. Team Members were very friendly. The only critique was the furniture was a little dated.

Very noisy hotel, the room is right next to the highway, do not recommend!

Location is great! and you can tell there were some updates but overall was a renovated Motel. My room smelled damp and smoky but all rooms are smoke free? Dirty/stained desk chair. A table too large for the space. You could barely get in on the right hand side of the bed. The pool was always murky and very uninviting so we skipped it. The bathroom looked old. Chipped and moldy paint. Old tile that had some mold as well. Beds were comfortable but the sheets were scratchy. Fire pits were few and although we were told they were for all we tried to use one close to a room and were told it was for them. Wouldn't recommend.

Liked the property and rooms, clean, comfy and good sized rooms. However it’s very noisy and loud at night with passing cars on 101 and the street nearby. There’s No AC in the room and leaving the windows open make it kind of hard to sleep.

Comfortable beds, spacious rooms, and steps to the beach. Definitely will stay again.

I really enjoyed my stay. I was in a top floor room with 2 queen beds and a very high ceiling. The room was spacious and furnished well enough for my needs with a desk as well as a small table with 2 chairs, small microwave and mini fridge (though the ice compartment didn’t have a closure). The room also came with a private patio furnished with a table and chairs. There was a ceiling fan but no AC but that was fine for me. It’s in a great location with direct beach access and a one mile walk to the Pismo Pier. There are chairs and tables set out cliff side to enjoy the sunrise or sunset. The stafff at the lobby were very friendly and pleasant. I didn’t get to try the breakfast at the lobby cafe as it was closed. Overall I was pleased with the premises and will return. Thanks for a memorable stay!

Stayed in a room facing the ocean and it was so relaxing. The amenities offered were excellent! Comfy bed and nice outdoor space.

A great place to stay! Our room was on the second floor and had tall vaulted ceilings, a working gas fireplace, and beautiful views of the ocean. All of that for just over $200 a night (so a great deal!). We’ll definitely be staying here again the next time we’re in Pismo.

Nice room but very noisy. Our room was located closest to the freeway in addition the guests above had children running around the whole time which didn’t help! If booking request 2nd floor and a room mid to front (ocean) location.

Room was lovely with the comfiest bed so honestly could not complain about that! Parking free and easy and the firepits are a lovely addition to staying here. The gentleman on reception when checking in was great, but I was really unimpressed with the lack of responsiveness and helpfulness from whoever manages the emails and messages etc prior to arriving. I was trying to arrange somebody to come and decorate our room with birthday balloons for my partner prior to our arrival and had to resort in passing the hotels contact number over as I just wasn’t really getting anywhere within a reasonable time frame. I also thought that given the hotel was nowhere near full, we might have been allocated a room closer to the beach or on the second floor with a bit more privacy.

Awesome service. The hotel let us check in at 1 since the room was ready and we had late check out as well. Extended vacation :)

I complained to the front desk and spoke to manager Tricia Eden, about our upstairs neighbor that was rowdy all night and apparently the next door neighbor complained as well. I was told since I didnt book through them, all they could offer was $10 free parking or late check out. I was not pleased

When I reserve hotels online in advance, I definitely request to be placed at a very quiet location and far away from busy foot traffic areas. But the day that I checked in, the front desk clerk told me that if I want this scenario, I'd better come to this Pismo Beach at different season. Then he went on and on to educate me about the timing that I came to this hotel was NOT in a quiet season :( How rude he was ?

The staff were friendly and helpful, telling us about places we could eat in the area and things we could do! The room was spacious and clean. I wasn't really a fan of the barn door to the bathroom, as it felt like it offered extremely little privacy. Parking was a little crowded, but we had no trouble finding a spot beyond the check in area. My only real complaint about this hotel is the fact that the breakfast is not free, it's actually quite expensive.

Left the valleys triple digit weather to enjoy the 70’s temperatures at Pismo. Checked in at lobby and we were met with friendly, courteous staff member’s. We got our room but our tv volume was not working and the staff comped us another room. Over all we enjoyed our stay for 4 days. Will book again in the near future!

Very beautiful view of the ocean with lovely sitting areas in a lovely landscape. Totally quiet even though near the freeway

I have stayed here before. I like the look, it’s comfortable. Now days everyone is going so clean modern it feels cold. The staff was all great. Had great suggestions. I was bringing my daughter back to CalPoly. I love that it is right on the beach and we can walk to our favorite breakfast spot, moonlight cafe. I just love the location.

Fantastic view of the ocean. 1 min walk to the beach and 5-10 to city amenities. Highly recommend for a relaxing getaway.

Good size rooms and bedrooms. Bathroom needs some updating and better lighting. Overall it is a good place to stay. Easy access to the beach and the views are amazing.

This place is now our favorite. We had an ocean front 2nd story room-WOW what a view & you can hear the waves crash! We had windows open 24/7 if got chilly used fireplace which heated room right up! We walked 15 min on beach to pier area. From Inn to beach there are a lot of stairs.

We were looking for a last minute stay in pismo for Labor Day weekend. So glad we found cottage inn. We were able to bring our pup and were given a care package. The view from the private deck was the best. Very close walk to the pier but nice that it is a bit away from the crowds.

This is a great property to stay at the allow early check in and charged very little for late check out. It is right off the beach with great views and a short walk to the beach!!

Absolutely loved our stay here. Was a welcome rest for an otherwise busy holiday. Relaxing looking over the ocean was calming. The breakfast options are poor but serviceable and the one thing on my wish list would be a sun lounger to relax on as the chairs aren’t all that comfortable. The pub next door serves great food. All in all it was a wonderful stay and i would recommend.

Access to the beach and beach view was great! Room was very cozy, beachy, had a fireplace and clean. Although the Bluff cafe was good, it would be great if the hotel had a sit down restaurant. Thank you

Great little quaint property by the ocean. Friendly staff - Rooms have fire places and there are heat lamps by the poolside if you want to enjoy the evening. Room was clean… only downfall was that there wasn’t any food / beverage offered without a fee. We did buy coffee at their dining area, but didn’t buy any food or snacks. Other than that, beautiful place to stay!

Everything was perfect. The only downside was that we had ordered room service for breakfast. The waffels were great, but the breakfast burrito was barely edible at best. For that price i would have liked seeing some effort.

Charming property. They have 3 gas fire pits on property so you can enjoy the scenery even on cold, not too windy nights (or days). There is a breakfast option available, not free, that had excellent breakfast choices. Staff friendly and helpful.

I loved the view and the proximity to everything we needed. I did not like how super low the toilets are, and if there was one thing i would change is having a restaurant on site, even just a breakfast restaurant other than the premade foods that are offered there in the morning. Overall, I’d give a 4 out of 5 for this property.
