I knew the rooms were small, that was fine. What i didn’t know is how cheap various features were. Gym, small and sparse. No filtered water, just a carafe with a tap. Bathroom, thin ply toilet paper. Mini bar zip tied, rather cheap. Other various small items that for the price make it not worth it. The staff was great, however when I mentioned how some other lux hotels do little things like fruit and bath salts they fell short. These items were given our last night, a huge bowl of fruit that had mold, and there was also no way it could be eaten the last night. Bath salt were generous. Again, they tried. My entire three nights I wished I booked my original hotel that I stayed prior year, Maybourne. Same rate.

I liked the atmosphere. Location, beach access but can get away from beach. Most staff outstanding. Didn't like our rooms were on a busy street, going up then down elevators to access. Parking at $75.00 per day. The first-day pool staff was not very attentive. Living room bar should open at 10:00 not 11:00

Rm 532 ocean view… wonderful with jacuzzi bath & candle, Dyson hairdryer. The toiletries were so delicately scented, Hotel lounge area is used for a lot of external meetings, which can be noisy and not resident friendly, and a friend we dined with said the lounge is extremely busy at weekends. So, not sure what areas they have for hotel guests. Beach and boardwalk lovely, but a lot of homeless men around and not sure l would feel safe at night out walking.

I loved my quick trip to santa monica and greatly enjoyed the beauty of the shutters ocean view room with patio. Being able to see the ocean makes me feel closer to nature and i loved the decoration of this hotel including books to read and toys to play with in the room. We used a bike for an hour which was fun. The pool area is nice and very refreshing. Room service breakfast was very relaxing.

Fantastic visit! Loved the location, the staff and the meals! Did not have much chance to enjoy the pool area but hope for next time! Valet and parking were excellent. An expensive stay but EVERYTHING was first class!

Staff, from the front desk to bell/valet, and restaurant were extremely hospitable. Hotel just tired and there is an odd smell in the hallway going to the room. We were unable to get a reservation in the higher end restaurant during our stay which is a bummer as a hotel guest, but there are some great restaurants in the area. The cost of the room plus ready fee, tourism and other taxes was not a good value.

From the moment we checked in with Rosanna, who gave us a complimentary upgrade, to the moment we got a late checkout so my daughter could enjoy the pool, this place has been nothing short of magical. The room was spotless and so calming. The service, including turn down for the evening, was unparalleled. Anything we needed was taken care of promptly and with a smile. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. It is worth every penny.

This was our first stay at Shutters on the Beach, and it exceeded our expectations. The location is unbeatable, with stunning beach views right from our balcony , the perfect place to relax. The hotel was spotless, the staff incredibly friendly and helpful, and every dining experience was delicious. We can’t wait to return!

This is by far and away the best hotel in the Los Angeles area. It’s quiet, clean and peaceful. The nightly turn down is an added bonus. Everything here is done with care and consideration. I had the pleasure and privilege of staying at Shutters on two separate occasions and will definitely be back.

Stayed here 2 nights for our 35th Anniversary. Service was good, the rooms were clean and "beachy," but small - only one sink, cruise ship-sized shower, toilet area only had a louvered dood, so no privacy), our ocean view was great, but the balcony doors weren\'t very soundproof to the outside. Coast restaurant food was good, service was good, and (as expected) a bit pricey. But, the thing that bothered us the most was the location. There are many homeless people on the beach, around the Downtown shopping area, and on Ocean Ave. near the restaurants. They are sleeping in tents, on benches, and some were approaching tourists in threatening ways. Several times, we did not feel safe. Santa Monica Pier is dirty, old and run down. So, while the hotel was fairly nice, we would not return to this area.

Well…the rooms are a bit small but when opening up the patio door, it fell off its track because the wood had deteriorated. The bed lights didn’t work properly, they kept flickering. Ordered room service and the food was cold. If it wasn’t for the view and the jacuzzi tub my anniversary weekend would have been a bust at this hotel. The staff were all very pleasant and friendly though!

Loved the view and location. Hotel in need of an update.. starting to look a bit dated and damaged ceilings/ walls etc. including amenities in resort fees would be nice- eg. Bath salts… instead of charging for these!
