Hotel Bothwell Sedalia Central District, an Ascend Collection Hotel

The staff were so friendly and extra helpful. The building was an old building with so much character. The rooms we decent size and had the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. There was no shortage of pillows because our bed came with 9. The parking in the hotel lot was horrendous so we opted for street parking near the hotel.

Very well kept, staff was friendly at check in. Parking area was not adequate for a large truck.

Such a jewel hotel in a terrific downtown setting. I stayed here while biking the KATY Trail with the hotel's location being very convenient. The Bothwell caters to bicyclists and the staff was amazing and quite accommodating. I will be back!

They need more on-site parking. I had to park down the street the whole time. Also, they needsheets that are deep enough for the fitted sheet to reach the bottom of the mattress. I had to keep redoing it.

There was no parking, I am handicapped and there wasn’t any marked handicap. They have resurfaced the parking lot, so nothing was marked. The surface was so rough, I struggled to roll my bags across the parking lot. After finally getting inside, the front desk told me I couldn’t have my room key, until I went back out and got my license number from my car. I had asked for a 1st floor or close to the elevator room. I was put on the 6th floor in the room the farthest from the elevator. The room was extremely small and smelled musty. I tried to get the television on,for about an hour, before calling front desk, they came up and tried to replace the tv with one from the 7th floor. That tv didn’t work either, I asked for a different room, he said he would go down and check, thought he had 7 or 8 rooms but wouldn’t be as nice. Called back up and said they didn’t have any rooms left. Next day, I came back from work, no one had tried anything to fix the tv. was told the manager had left 2 minutes before, front desk stated they aren’t authorized to give me a different room. So I checked out and asked for a refund, which I haven’t seen yet. Horrible experience and the management still hasn’t called to try to make things right. I travel every week for work, this would never be a place I would stay again

Wonderful lobby. We biked the Katy trail and could fit our bikes comfortably in our room. I noticed so many bikes in the lobby as an alternate option. So convenient for riding the trail. Breakfast was very good.

I have stayed here 3 other times, so this review is at odds with my previous experiences. The bathroom smelled musty and moldy. The shower was the smallest I have ever been in, and the shower head was loose, and not mounted high enough for me to clear my head (I am 6’2”). They put plastic fitted sheets under the regular sheets (the kind you use for bed wetters). I could hear normal conversation level speech from the room next door through the adjoining door, not very sound insulated. The TV would randomly increase in volume. The coffee in room was not very good and we were shorted a service of creamer/sugar. Hotel restaurant was great.

Room was very clean and smelled fresh, Staff was friendly and helpful. Very nice property and not too expensive. Will definitely recommend and will return.

This is a historical hotel in downtown Sedalia that is great for its central location and charm. However, I found it not to be as clean as I would have liked and it had a musky smell.

I enjoyed my stay at this property. Staff was very nice and helpful. Room was nice and bed was comfortable. Only thing was the room had a slight musty smell. But I would stay here again and would recommend it to others.

This is a beautiful hotel. The room was very nice and the bed was comfy. My only complaint was that the bathroom was dirty. It was terrible. I had to call and ask them to clean it again. They did and the bathroom was fine after that. I would stay here again, tho. It’s gorgeous.

Neat, historic hotel right in the heart of downtown. We had a spacious room with a great view.

We had a room with two beds AND two bathrooms—we were not expecting the second bathroom, so that was a nice surprise. The room was spacious. The lobby and second floor balcony were gorgeous. Would be a beautiful place for a small wedding reception on the 2nd floor. As other reviewers have said, the air quality in the room was not good. Very humid. Didn’t seem to be a way to fix that. Temperature control in the room was also not great: hot then cold all night. Might be better to stay there in winter months when the furnace is running? Overall, I would stay there again, but for the price ($277 per night), I expected a little better.

It was noisy, cars revving their engines loudly & consistently all hours of the day/night. I felt incredibly unsafe, as their hotel had far too many random unpaying guests roaming the establishment while we were there the first night. The bed we were given was incredibly uncomfortable and I ended up sleeping 2 nights in the bathtub. There was no control over the temp as well because they had it set & locked in the room "due to the pipes". Temperature on the 6th floor was too hot for us at night at times. We have unlimited wifi on our phones so we didn't really need the free wifi there, but when we wanted to watch something on the small tv, it lagged horribly. We tried watching for about 20 minutes on 2 occasions at night and gave up, as it kept freezing. The hot water & pressure are horrendous. Took forever to draw hot water and it does not come out fast enough for a hot bath. The blackout blinds are nice, but ours were broken at the top and created gaps of light coming through. We were also given old worn towels that were worse than the ones you keep stubbornly at your home, but you know you should get rid of. For the price, it's too much. They tacked on $25 daily beyond what we were charged for a 15 lb. small beagle for what they claimed were cleaning fees, but should be cleaning anyway. There is no pool, hot/jet tubs etc. and the room was extremely small. Lacking the vintage charm it boasted.

Well, we couldn’t sleep because the walls appear to be very thin. We could hear everyone talking all night. We stayed on the third floor. Also the beds for 2 adults were very small and firm.

Cute old hotel with lots of charm. Had a great stay and it was great for a couple, we had barely enough room to put a twin air mattress on the floor for our son as I think the rooms are just made for couples. I loved it and it felt classy, although the bed was not that great, it had a plastic mattress protector on it and no matter what we tried to do, the sheet slid off on the corners even if we didn’t move, so moving in the night caused us to wake up sleeping on the plastic. The food was great and definitely felt upscale in the hotel and bar.

Amazing hotel. Historic, very comfortable and even had two bathrooms in our room. Amazing!

It was a good property, besides room air conditioner being super loud

When I called to make sure that it was OK that they could have pets on property they did not inform me that pets had to be under 25 pounds so booked the room anyway got there and because my pets weigh over 25 pounds we were turned away.

Great, quaint property. Pleasant staff. Typical morning breakfast. No problems with noise or anything else for that matter. There was one significant irritation and by irritation I mean that it was more about the staff than it was the problem. My credit card was erroneously declined because a new staff at the registration desk did not understand the screen messages. My card was charged four times. I question this as I did not want to go home and have to fight them over these minuscule charges. The front desk clerk called out who I assume was the manager? She treated me like I wasn't even in the room. She was pleasant enough but did nothing to to address my frustration, didn't even acknowledge it. That was frustrating. She talked around me rather than to me. I felt like a piece of furniture.

This was our first time staying at the Hotel Bothwell and we had an absolutely wonderful experience. We were in town to visit the State Fair and this location was perfect. From the moment we stepped foot into the hotel we were greeted with such friendly, smiling faces. The staff always ensured we had everything we needed. We had a wonderful dinner at the Ivory Grill located just off the lobby. Our room was much larger than we expected, it was clean and had all of the amenities. Breakfast was located downstairs and was one of the best we've had from a hotel in a long time. The service was wonderful for that as well. If we find ourselves back in Sedalia we will most definitely book our stay at Hotel Bothwell

No hot water in the entire building. No mention of this at check in although as we found out this was known for two days prior. 'No repair personnel over the weekend'! We arrived early and waited appropriately for 3 hrs before checking in, no problem. They could have mentioned to us about the repair issue they have. It should have been our choice to stay or look for another property in town or another town near by. I expect a little more honesty from our midwestern folks.

Hotel staff are best out of any hotel I have stayed in. We drove 3.5 hours just to come and stay the night here because of how great our last experience was. Very clean and nice rooms. We have interacted with three front desk employees during our 3 stays, they have all been so friendly and personable. Richard even offered to take us to our floor on the old manual elevator. Wish I would have got the sweet lady’s name that works afternoons, more businesses need employees like her. 10/10

Our experience was excellent. The staff at the front desk, dining room, breakfast area were all extremely friendly and courteous.

Luxury historic hotel in downtown Sedalia! Enjoyed the convenient parking, the ambiance with the chandelier and free snacks in the lobby, the music and employee in costume during the ragtime festival. Great location right in the square and close to the train station, Katy Depot and restaurants. The free breakfast was good with cheese omlettes and sausage, Belgian waffles, fruit, yogurt parfaits, muffins and more. The employees were somewhat friendly although one was new and learning. On the down side, the price point was a bit high at about $200/night after tax. The elevator and room were a little cramped. I didn’t get to have a drink at the bar, which closed rather early. I was excited to eat at the restaurant on my last night but the food and service were subpar — no one came to seat me and my salmon chowder came in a pool of oil. I enjoyed the presentation of dessert offerings but other guests were shouting out profanities which took away from the experience.

I've stayed here before but it's been a few years, seems prices have gone up considerably. It was $150ish with tax for a queen room which used to be price for a king room which was a much bigger room. Beautiful downtown but lots of motorcycle noise on the street below. The breakfast was really good, had lots of options including proteins.

Overall, we really liked the history of the hotel and the upkeep was good. Our windows faced Ohio St and it seemed like a lot of the people in the area gun their engines which was very loud. The staff was very friendly. The breakfast was terrible so we chose to walk to the Ozark Coffee Co which was excellent. There was a group of sketchy people at breakfast at the hotel the first morning so that added to the decision to not go down to the basement for breakfast. The bed was a bit soft and the fitted sheet kept coming off, but still overall we would recommend the hotel.

This was my second time staying here. It's a great historic property with modern amenities, and the staff is really nice. It's also in a very walkable area. I highly recommend this location.

Beautiful hotel, friendly staff, and good hot breakfast. Right in the heart of historic Sedalia with lots of little shops close by. Restaurant on site and within walking distance of the Amtrak station. We come to Sedalia just to stay at this hotel!

I was only in town for one night and love historical sites. The historical area of Sedalia is beautiful. Many stores were closed on the Sunday evening but I walked around and wished I’d had more days to not just window shop. It appears that the area is going through a re-birth and would be interested to stay more time in about a year. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful.

Love this hotel. Only potential problem…it was the start of our Katy Trail ride and it’s likely our hotel experience will go downhill from here. We took Amtrak to Sedalia and the hotel is a quick trip from the station and then a quick trip to the trail the next morning. Love the elegance and the hotel is in exquisite condition.

Clean, quiet, comfortable, charming, polite, Breakfast was good! We came down to breakfast and were greeted with a huge smile and welcome each day instead of a grumble I would have expected. There was plenty of hot food waiting and a smiling face to wish us well with the rest of our day. The last day of our stay we came down with only 15 minutes left on breakfast, and everything was still full and hot. The attendant was just as polite and helpful. I was really impressed!! She made our morning!!
