La Fonda is the anchor for the plaza. There’s food and shopping literally outside the door. Unfortunately, they’re rebuilding the pergola in the plaza right now. So it’s noisy and unsightly. Has to be done, I guess. Parking is $10 a day. The room was adequate and somewhat modern. Access to filtered water sure would be nice. There’s a coffee maker in the room. Supply your own water. The guy at the front desk may have been new. He had some difficulties. The front desk man at night was more helpful.

This hotel was really amazing! We loved everything about it, but especially the public fireplace/game room on the 2nd floor. They had all sorts of games and comfy seating options to make yourself cozy. Thank you for a great stay!

It's on Taos Plaza. You can't beat the location. The parking fee ($10 per day) seems unnecessary. Numerous dining options within walking distance. Don't overlook the margaritas at The Gorge or the craft beers at Taos Mesa Brewing. Easy access to the ski valley. Our handicapped room still had five steps, which could be a problem for wheelchair customers. OK for crutches, though. It was not our first stay there, so we knew breakfast meant leaving the property, but a restaurant in the lobby should be open soon. By all measures, it should be awesome, but it remains to be seen if breakfast will be a free option. Our only real complaint needing to use a plug-in radiator for heat, since the historic building does not have central AC or heat. This is minor inconvenience given the other advantages of a historic structure on the plaza, though.

Beautiful community. Lots of stairs and steps that we did not know. No elevator to the third floor. No amenities in the evening such as a small country store. Also the hot and cold knobs on tub were turned around.

La Fonda hotel is in middle of town of course it’s noisy and it’s an old hotel so they don’t have jacuzzi and swimming pool. But that’s okay for single nights rest.

It was just for one night after staying several nights in Santa Fe. Hotel is very old, yet quaint. We chose because it is in the plaza. The parking lot at the back of the hotel is gravel — so very hard to roll your suitcase. Also, elevator in back of hotel, our room was six additional steps down and again with our suitcase it was difficult. Room was very small and rustic (outdated), but to be expected for the age of the hotel. The room was clean. The public gathering area was very nice.

The room itself was in poor shape (exposed wall patches), and the cleanliness was subpar (hair in the bathroom, dirty sock from previous renter along the bed). I don't ever plan on going back to this hotel during another visit to Taos.

Unfortunately the hotel is very run down. Our door upon arrival wasn’t even shut or locked when we went to use our card the 1st time. Someone had used the restroom and didn’t flush ( a man because seat was up), we thought they sent us to a maintenance room or something because there were several spots on the wall that looked like they had repaired and was waiting for the paint. Twin headboards that were spread apart for a king mattress. We couldn’t believe how shoddy everything was done. Dirty Kleenex up on the shelf. We questioned it all to the front desk and they said oh it was ready and had been inspected… no zippered mattress cover on the mattress. Ughh! Not a please experience sadly. The public restroom in the lobby was filthy. People were kind though and it is in a great location. Just needs more quality control.

Our room was disgusting, the ceiling had water damage, the air conditioning was broken and leaking, and there were dirty rags in the closet, a broken ironing board, and hair in the shower. I did not want to take my shoes off in this room, nor did I want to sleep in the bed. I asked the front desk attendant if we could change rooms, and he said they were sold out, which was strange because I only saw 2 or 3 other people in the hotel. Being a hotel manager myself, I tried to be as kind and understanding as possible and recommended that they not rent that room out again. The response from the gentleman at the front desk was, "Oh well, looks like you prepaid for it." The room was disgusting, and the operators should be ashamed that they rented a room like the one they did

The historic building is wonderful, but there is a lot of deferred maintenance--deterioted paint, tile grout issues etc, as well as cleaning issues (mold on bathroom ceiling, dust bunnies hanging from ceiling fans)

There were multiple dark black hair strands on the shower wall and some on the batbroom floor. Apparently the room was not very well cleaned. Also a hair on the bed sheets.

The property was a great location within walking distance to many dining options and stores for shopping. The room was was on the small side but it was clean and the bed was comfortable. There was a loft area to hang out with couches and tables and chairs. The staff was friendly as well.

Check in was pleasant. The lobby was spacious with local art and a coffee shop. The room was large with an adjacent sitting area complete with sofa, bar and kiva gas fireplace. Great central location, we walked to a fabulous Italian restaurant for dinner, though the in-hotel restaurant looked/smelled great, and had a guitarist. Parking was in a private lot. We will be back!

It's a great old hotel in a wonderful location. The restaurant is expensive but there are lots of good options around. Our room was spacious, and interesting, but the air conditioner was inadequate and the WiFi was poor in the room. We found a lovely balcony inside the hotel where our laptops and phones worked better. Since it's so old and crazy, there are some maintenance issues like stains on the ceiling and windows that don't open right; but overall we found it very charming and we would go back again.

This hotel is right on the square, which is very nice for shopping and relaxing. The front desk person, mary, was extraordinary, and very accommodating and friendly. As far as the room, we were very disappointed in the size. Our room (410) was super tiny! There wasn't enough room to even open our suitcase! However, it was very close to the elevator, which took you to the first floor close to the back door where there is a wonderful patio that is lit up at night. And the parking is just steps away from the patio. Other than the room size, or stay was very nice, and the people were very friendly.

The photos were genius compared to the cramped room. Even the placement of the furniture worked against functionality let alone comfort. Most disturbing was the step up into the bathroom. we left the light on all night lest we miss it and wind up face down on the tile. At least highlight it so it is visible. Also the toilet seat was broken. The mattress was like cardboard. A sad place relying on history...

Great hotel, very well appointed and maintained considering its age. Staff were wonderful, went above and beyond. We got upgraded for free to the highest room. The hotel itself was fine, however being on the plaza, the noise was horrific every night. We like to sleep w/ the windows open, but the noise from random people in the square playing music, singing off-key, loud cars cruising at night, semi trailers delivering things at all hours of the night. We couldn't wait to leave so we could get a good night of sleep. We won't be back to stay at the Plaza, but will return to Taos. It's unfortunate police can't get involved to make it an enjoyable experience.

Counter attendant combative unprofessional customer unfriendly arrogant. People with dog was admitted and when I complained was told it is against the law to ask people about their service dogs. This was no service dog. They are taught not to bark. Eveidently their money was better than ours. Taos has gone to the dogs. Open high voltage electrical vaults doors. Unkept grounds. Only bright spot were the maids who were polite and efficient.

This was no service dog. They are taught not to bark. Eveidently their money was better than ours. Taos has gone to the dogs. Open high voltage electrical vaults doors. Unkept grounds. Only bright spot were the maids who were polite and efficient.

The entire staff was so friendly and helpful. The artwork in the room and common areas was museum quality. Being on the Plaza meant a short walk to any restaurant, cafe or gallery. Our room was super clean and the coffee shop in the lobby was excellent.

The gentleman at the front desk was incredibly accommodating. We got in super early and just decided to check and see if we could check in. Our room was still being cleaned but he took the time to go upstairs and see how much longer it would be and then had us fill out the paperwork and get the keys early. After a long day of driving it was greatly appreciated!!

La Fonda is the anchor for the plaza. There’s food and shopping literally outside the door. Unfortunately, they’re rebuilding the pergola in the plaza right now. So it’s noisy and unsightly. Has to be done, I guess. Parking is $10 a day. The room was adequate and somewhat modern. Access to filtered water sure would be nice. There’s a coffee maker in the room. Supply your own water. The guy at the front desk may have been new. He had some difficulties. The front desk man at night was more helpful.

The mattresses are terrible. The noise level is very high. There was a party next-door . The front desk person named Omar was really condescending. He didn’t do anything to try to help the situation situation. There were cops all over this place shining lights and they have a parking fee of $10 which is not disclosed in the booking

We spent 3 nights at Hotel La Fonda during a snow storm. We had a lovely cozy room overlooking the plaza to watch the snow come and go. We could shop and eat on the plaza, or in their cute coffee shop. The common sitting areas were great too.

It's on Taos Plaza. You can't beat the location. The parking fee ($10 per day) seems unnecessary. Numerous dining options within walking distance. Don't overlook the margaritas at The Gorge or the craft beers at Taos Mesa Brewing. Easy access to the ski valley. Our handicapped room still had five steps, which could be a problem for wheelchair customers. OK for crutches, though. It was not our first stay there, so we knew breakfast meant leaving the property, but a restaurant in the lobby should be open soon. By all measures, it should be awesome, but it remains to be seen if breakfast will be a free option. Our only real complaint needing to use a plug-in radiator for heat, since the historic building does not have central AC or heat. This is minor inconvenience given the other advantages of a historic structure on the plaza, though.

Rooms are not your typical hotel style rooms. They have a rustic character to them that is different from the conventional hotels most people use. Note: When I stayed there in August 2025, there was remodeling being done on the plaza itself, so part of it looks like a construction site. However all the shops and restaurants were open.

Lots of character and history in this hotel. We enjoyed using the common areas during our stay and had a great breakfast in the dining room the following morning. The hotel is right on the plaza and everything you want is a short walk from there.

We’re coming back 💯 I love the room, the vibes, the aesthetic, the convenience of the hotel being in the center of town and we can walk to the galleries and shops. The restaurant is awesome too has gf and vegan choices which is nice 👍

The hotel is an historic place, right in the old square and for that it's nice but there was no breakfast included and the restaurant was not open when we were there. The local restaurants closed at 8 so we had to scramble to find dinner. The room was tiny with a wood floor. Seems they didn't subscribe to any TV channels so there wasnt much to do in the evening.

This was my first time staying at LaFonda, and I’ve been visiting Taos since my childhood in the 1960’s, and was pleasantly surprised. The rooms were small but nicely appointed with comfortable beds and amenities. Baths well equipped and supplied. The lobby is a bit dingy and could use a refresh. Parking lot a bit rough, but convenient. I’d certainly consider it the next time I need to travel to Taos.
