Lovely characterful hotel with very pleasant staff. Very limited car parking but we managed to get a space. Good value

A great hotel in the middle of Bala it is perfect for exploring Wales. The venue is a bar, restaurant and B&B. Room was spacious and staff were friendly. Beds were comfortable and the bathroom really clean and modern. My only comment is that there seemed to be limited parking spaces which were full. I was able to park near the front but there is a time limit

It’s a lovely old building. Food stopped at 5 on a Sunday and no cooked breakfast on Monday or Tuesday but free continental breakfast and plenty of cafes and restaurants nearby

I arrived from London on the motorcycle and had a warm welcome with a lovely comfortable bed and a very good bathroom with a top class shower. Sadly I arrived too late for their delicious menu as the kitchen closes early on Sunday. But I will be back very soon as I have moved near Chester and Bala is only miles away. Highly recommended. Restaurant closes pretty early 8 o clock- and few choices available even 15-20 minutes before closing time. But overall ok

Lovely traditional British pub. Staff were lovely and a nice welcome from Rosie the resident dog! All single rooms are on the 2nd floor (no lift). The room I stayed in was quite small but clean and very comfy bed.

Just a creaky old building, just needs updating and a Lift as my partner and i were breathless getting to 2nd floor !

Really enjoyed our stay, thank you so much to the staff for making us feel welcome. Only issue was the nightclub across the road being loud, but closing the window sorted that. Mot, our dog was very happy and spoilt rotten. Would love to come again. Diolch yn fawr

Crack in bath sink, wood beading on cabinet under sink missing, no blind on one of the main windows opposite shower, unable to take a private shower as window looks out on to high street. stains on towels.generally very dirty bathroom. No mattress cover on bed can see print on mattress through very thin sheet.very uncomfortable matress. Furniture in room in very bad condition.

Look, I slept well, it was in a good location, some free parking and, as the desk staff inexplicably pointed out: I did get a 'very good deal' through a third party booking agency. That considered though, I'm glad to have not paid full price because it was not a 4* experience unfortunately. For cleaning: there is mold in our bathroom ceiling, the mugs had dried coffee in them, there was a spider in the window, and the light and bedhead are dusty. For maintenance: there was no privacy curtain, no mirror except the bathroom, no luggage rack, the ceiling lamp is crooked, a bedside drawer had a screw poking out, no hooks or additional towel racks (one small towel heated rack), the shower fitting wobbled dramatically and the bathroom door is water damaged. And for overall experience: staff woke us before 6am sitting outside our room to smoke and complain, the corridor smelled strongly of cigarettes and the shower basin creaked loudly with every step. Glad to be moving on.

Spacious clean room and en-suite. Staff quite pleasant.

Very tidy quiet room, comfortable and well equipped. Good shower and plenty of pressure. Breakfast was pretty good too. Value for money. Would stay again if we were in the area.

Location, ok Bedding was marked, felt dirty. Mattresses very lumpy and thin, done my back in. Lots of dust in bedside table and empty wrappers in dressing table ( see pics) Booked for 2 nights ( wish it was 1) Staff ( owner) miserable, other staff appeared cheesed off but did help. No mention of the dog who freely walked the hotel on the web site. So if you’re afraid / allergic to dogs stay away. Not enough tea,coffee, milk, in the rooms I booked ... lots of sugar though😱 Not enough bath towels in family suite, so paid for family suite and I graded as a twin room . Not child friendly at all. Nothing for toddlers/children to do in the Rooms, I. E books, jigsaw -saw, games, colouring books ( not all toddlers/children watch t.v) Not much on children’s menu . All single rooms are on 3rd floor ( no lift) not good for asthmatics/vunerable. Breakfast food (sausages, eggs, bacon, served up was cold. We Ate out from takeaways. Not enough parking spaces. 25 rooms! Sign at front of hotel states to use the back entrance of the hotel, this meant walking ( with toddler in pram) on a narrow road with no sidewalk, very dangerous as it’s one way and vehicles approached from behind us. No room service, no phone in rooms to call reception, just an emergency mobile number. No assistance offered to help carry luggage to the third floor. Daughter struggled to take pram to the first floor, receptionist watched as a total stranger helped. Broken window safety lock. No comfort, AVOID! 4* NOT.

I stayed at the White Lion on my way down from Scotland. Turned out to be brilliant choice. The hotel has fantastic pub and atmosphere. I really liked the staff, very friendly lot. My room was on the top floor, it was spacious, had a great bed, good bathroom and housecleaning. 👍 It’s central to Bala and Bala is a great village.

Large historical building. Friendly, efficient service. Large bedroom, clean, but didn't sleep because room was so uncomfortably hot! Radiators off and fan provided which had on all night which was noisy but couldnt understand why so hot. Slept on top of covers as so hot. However, breakfast lovely and evening meal was exceptional. Convenient, good parking at back and good atmosphere. Would stay again but different room. Not room 108. It was a rainy day so couldnt imagine if a hot day. I think they would have accommodated us if we had told staff but we only stayed for one night after moving daughter into university.

I had a single room R301 it is probably the smallest hotel room I have ever stayed in. Although the bed was comfortable it was a small single bed which made for a restless nights sleep.

Staff friendly and helpful, lovely old building, food excellent

The hotel is conveniently located on Bala high street and an easy walk to the lake. The front of house staff are not friendly or welcoming and you are treated with disdain for wanting anything from them. The Management team are clearly not leaders and this rubs off on the reception / bar staff. We arrived at 14.45 and the miserable guy on reception initially ignored us standing at the reception desk. We had to go round the corner to where he was standing behind the bar (directly behind the reception desk) and when he came to the desk, told us that check in was from 15.00 and we could not check in. When we did get checked in much later, our Suite was a good size and clean, but very hot. The windows were locked / painted shut. Other windows in the suite could be opened a couple of inches but had cable locks on them preventing them opening very far. On the second day, the kitchen did not have any eggs, sausages, mushrooms or milk, so the cooked breakfast was a bit sorry looking. Overall, some of the staff at this hotel are trying considerably harder than the management team, which is a real shame.

I'm amazed the manager here still has a job - must know something about someone higher up to keep his job - totally inept. The bar/reception staff on the other hand were super lovely. My complaint regarded the mattress which I could feel the springs through quote badly. The response I had from the manger (via text to the staff, not verbally or directly to me) was that he'd order another mattress and I could have a full refund of the room and find somewhere else to stay. Given this was 5-6pm ish for one night, he undoubtedly knew there weren't going to be other options, but didn't offer apologies (the staff did) nor offer any other solution. I stayed as no choice, then found the TV remote didn't work (except on/off) but given the previous, I couldn't be bothered to tell the manager, he'd probably tell me he'd order another remote. The room also said it had a desk space for work which it did. And a chair. But the bed was so close to the desk that you couldn't fit the chair next to it so you had to sit on the bed and have springs poking into you. Also couldn't be bothered to tell him this. Staff were lovely, hotel was mediocre, manager is a muppet. Lovely town, lovely area, lovely floor staff. Will return to Bala but not here.

Our time in Bala was brilliant and the White Lion Royal Hotel was wonderful. Chris greeted us and immediately helped us with a flat tire situation. Jenene served us two delicious meals from their cafe. This 600 year old historic hotel is cared for well. Our bathroom was updated and the bed was very comfortable. Five stars all around!

No staff available for check out. Took payment from my card without my permission. (Id arranged to pay with a different card when arriving). Very limited car park spaces. Unable to get a receipt for my stay. The worst experience ive ever had at any hotel anywhere in the world.

When booking in as to order our evening meal. After sitting there waiting for 40 minutes my husband went to inquire about the meal only to be told they had forgotten us and not able to anything for us. So we had to got into town to get a takeaway which was awfully and to take it to our bedroom to eat🙄☹️

Having ridden through Bale in the Summer on a motorcycle holiday and the place was BUSY, I decided to try an over night stay. Found The White Lion the reviews on the hotel site were promising so I booked a single room. One thing to know is you CANNOT check in till 15:00, unlike most places I’ve stayed they didn’t even look to see if the room was ready, was told flatly check in is 15:00. The car park has VERY limited spaces least one good thing about arriving early even if couldn’t check in I got a parking spot. Checked in about 16:00 was in room 306 thought I was in a single room but was pleasantly surprised it was a small double 😁 the shower was interesting, wasn’t much water pressure but as I was on the 3rd floor that wasn’t surprising. The room for a single was a good size, the facilities were a bit tight there was one sachet of coffee and 2 tea bags and about 50 sugars. The toilet seat was broken and the light flickered, didn’t book the breakfast after reading some of the write ups on trip advisor. When I went out for dinner I noticed the place was empty even though it has a massive restaurant space, after reading the trip advisor comments I understood why. I wouldn’t stay here again, shame it looks like it has so much potential.

Excellent location for exploring Wales, clean comfy rooms and all the staff were friendly and helpfull, rooms are a reasonable rate so all good.

Lovely hotel on the high street with parking

I arrived later than I had planned and was very cold as I was on my motorbike on my way to the Dragon Rally. When I arrived in my room, the heating was on and the room was lovely and warm. It really made a difference and was much appreciated. Usually when I arrive at a hotel, the heating is off. Lovely staff, great location and excellent value for money.

Bala is a good location for vising North Wales. The hotel was very good all round and the staff were friendly and importantly efficient.

Had a lovely stay, room was excellent and staff were brilliant. Had a lovely fish supper when we got there and the room was lovely and comfortable. Only negative point was we paid for breakfast and half the cooked items were unavailable, no bacon, no bkack pudfing , no mushrooms and no orange juice. This was such a shame as our stay had been lovely

Stayed for a night 29/08/24.My wife and myself. The room was a double. Spotlessly clean, enough room, modern etc. All the staff are super friendly /efficient. However I cannot recommend eating there, as the food we ordered was terrible.

A decent night sleep spoilt by the morning after. Woken around 6am by the kitchen staff deciding to blare out cheesy pop music. Fully awake to find out they have turned the heating off so the room and bathroom are both freezing cold. Head down for breakfast and after the worlds longest wait I am served with a cold English breakfast and despite what the menu says it contains its missing black pudding, eggs , only half a cold mushroom and half a stone cold tomato. The time we waited to actually get breakfast they could have at least cooked it and served it piping hot, not freezing cold. Disappointed
