Sudbury House

Was nice for an overnight stay. Was quite hard finding hotel at night. Not lit up very well. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Room was a good size. Food was a little pricey for what it was.

Restaurant closed for dinner during visit but only a few people staying. Shame as website photographs looked great. Must be a great wedding venue. Lovely patio and gardens around the back. Our room was down a long corridor with 5 fire doors but was spacious and really clean The receptionist did not bother to ask if we had enjoyed our visit when we checked out.

Friendly staff. Clean and comfortable rooms. Nice bar area.

A one night sta with my wife. The room was clean and comfortable and my wife really appreciated the black-out curtains. Coffee , tea and water were provided. Bathroom was clean and we were able to have a decent shower. The pressure is not too strong but adequate enough and the water was hot. There are extensive grounds but it was raining one day and extremely hot the next so couldn't take advantage of a stroll. Enjoyed a very tasty breakfast with everything you could want from a full English to pastries, fruit and yoghurt. Would definitely stay here again. The added bonus was the 2 EV charging points which I didn't see listed in the amenities. Was great as I could charge overnight and drive home without stopping.

We were told it was dog friendly but we’re booked in a room where dogs weren’t allowed. Wasn’t happy with this place and wouldn’t go again

Big applause for Chiao Lin Chang. (aka Greeen) Lovely lady who couldn’t do enough to help and support with a delightful and appropriate manner. A delightful employee with natural interpersonal skills, that moved from reception to restaurant with ease. For a hotel that advertises as dog friendly, I would say it was a bit more ‘Dogs are put up with, but we’re not that keen!’

Pleasant accommodation but no evening meal available as restauranr booked. Chef apparently would not offer soup or a snack. Directed to a takeaway or Indian restaurant. Very noisy room, not apparently doubleglazed and directly opposite the disco for a wedding receptoon with several double doors to the reception wide open until late evening. No safety grab rails for the frail and elderly to get in and out of the bath/shower. Basin plug stuck and took me 10 minutes to take out with a pair of scissors at 11pm. At breakfast we ordered tea and received a pot with one teabag for 2 peple. Won't be going back!

Pros. All the staff were very welcoming and freindly. Hotel rang me immediately after booking to advise a wedding was taking place and said they would try and give me a quiet room; they did and i couldn't fault it. The restaurant food was excellent and good breakfast . Lovely gardens. Cons. Hotel areas lack a bit of character and some corridors smelled a bit like a hospital, possibly from disinfecting areas, but these are minor observations. Overall a very good hotel and would recommend.

The hotel was ok. The grounds were really nice, so if you have a nice day or a sunny evening, it would be nice to sit out there. The room is basic, but clean. You get tea, coffees, biscuits and water, replenished every day, which was great. The shower, however, wasn’t very powerful. I have fine hair & it took ages to get the shampoo out. I dread to think about how long the trickle would take people with thick hair! That was my only down point really. Other than the foyer smelt a bit odd, but the room and corridor to the room smelt nice.

Was looking forward to this overnight staycation...specifically picked a nice hotel to take my family for the night. Had i known all rooms were not remodelled i would have not driven to this location specifically. The room was not like the pics and we were given an old room which was musky and the bathroom smelt like sewage. We did not say anything as we arrived late (about 8ish) and just wanted to get the kids comfortable and to sleep. The overall hotel grounds were lovely. The path in the back of the hotel was beautiful. Staff was fantastic and very friendly and helpful--especially the lady that was serving breakfast. I would only stay again if i knew i was getting a newer room.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Hotel was in good condition and surprised that more people were not staying and eating in the hotel. Rooms size was decent. Found the beds were comfortable but a little small. A negative was after the second night noticed her pillow was dirty and was turned over so wasn't seen. Other than that room was clean

We have stayed here before and have always had an enjoyable experience . Rooms are always clean and comfortable . All the staff are friendly abd professional

Room was clean and tidy but bathroom was very tired looking with old electric power shower and no hot water. Felt very sorry for the one staff member in the evening who was trying to run reception, take bar orders and serve dinner at once.

We had a lovely stay at the Sudbury House Hotel. The reception staff were really helpful, our room was very quiet and clean and we had a great breakfast before leaving.

The bathroom basin seems blocked. So pull up the plug, a whole lot of hair was dangling on the end. Plug also not cleaned - very dirty. Hearing not on. Had to ask to turn it on. Single sofa bed not great. Once both opened, space was limited. Not family friendly at all. Breakfast was good even though the bacon was extremely salty.

Very Comfortable bed - I slept really well (have osteoarthritis and spinal disease, so sleep impossible on a bad mattress), nice bathroom (though no space to put things like soap in the shower), not much cupboard space, just open shelves, but for short stay this is fine. No hairdryer in room, otherwise really nice place, and breakfast was good, though coffee not nice as it's clearly a dark roast and strongly made, I like strong coffee, but not dark roast, it's just bitter and all true bean taste lost. Will stay again when we come down to Witney to visit our nephew. Our usual hotel's been repurposed, so had to find another decent place to stay, and Sudbury house ticks the boxes.

Lovely room; quiet even though there was a wedding on, we couldn't hear a thing from our room. Attentive and helpful staff; excellent food for dinner and breakfast.

We booked a stay at Sudbury House on our 22nd wedding anniversary, having got married at Sudbury. We certainly didn't want a fuss but I was very surprised that at no point was there any sort of acknowledgment that we had married at the hotel 22 years previously, not even a congratulations at check in or a card in the room. Our room was comfortable but small. It was clean and the bathroom had a lovely shower. There's a kettle for tea and coffee. The 'view' from our room was a patch of grass at the side of the property and annoyingly the windows were at a 90 degree angle to a clear glass walkway in the adjoining hallway so anyone walking to their room looked straight into ours, straight at the bed. This meant that day and night we had to keep the thick curtains closed. The young staff at the hotel who served us dinner and breakfast were very good - both professional and friendly and very polite. They are a credit to the hotel. The food for breakfast and dinner was very good quality and it was the food and the young members of staff that made our stay enjoyable. I think that the hotel lacked a little bit of the personal touch, and perhaps some of the overlooked rooms should be fitted with reflected film on the windows or some sort of net curtains to provide some kind of privacy.

Staff and bed fine but the rooms need updating.The middle window has some issues and the bath plug doesn’t work properly.For the price being charged it’s around £50 to much in my opinion but once again the staff are fantastic.

Overall, a charming property with real character. The room was beautifully decorated, well appointed, and the bed was especially comfortable—perfect for unwinding. The bathroom was clean and modern, with good-quality fixtures, though some of the furniture and smaller fittings (like the towel rail and toilet roll holder) could use a bit of tightening or TLC. One thing to note: our room was located above a communal area that wasn’t soundproofed, so it was a bit noisy until around 11 p.m.—not disruptive, but something to keep in mind for light sleepers. The staff were friendly and attentive, though they were quite enthusiastic about promoting the on-site dining options. Not pushy, but we were asked several times if we wanted to add meals or make dinner reservations. That said, it’s a lovely place with a lot of charm, and with just a few tweaks it could be a truly standout stay.

The stay started off well with a very warm welcome by reception. We asked if we could have some snacks prepared for when we came back from an event and was told a firm no. They had a small wedding going on so the Chef was too busy. We asked if we could have food / snacks at all and was told no - food is only served at Breakfast and Dinner. We felt that as they had a wedding they were not interested in making our stay a welcome one. When we tried to get drinks, we had to look for someone to assist - as they were all busy with the wedding.

Nice one night stay with wife and 2 kids. Clean hotel, exterior could do with luck of paint. One staff member and one chef servicing all 30 guests was interesting. But Evan did a great job on reception, restaurant and bar lol!

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and went out of their way to help. Our car broke down on the way, so we arrived very late. We had booked the restaurant and the chef had waited long after the normal serving time had passed in case we arrived. On arrival, although the restaurant had closed we were given a complimentary drink and pizza. The food in the restaurant the next day was excellent and service was quick and friendly. Good breakfast/ The room was comfortable and clean, perhaps could do with a bit more storage for clothes . Certainly a hotel that we would revisit if we were in the area again.

The receptionist was less than welcoming when we arrived, barely looked up from her screen when I said good afternoon, no smile of welcome. something I would have expected such a hotel. These little things do make a difference to your view of the hotel and cost very little.

Excellent service when I needed to alert the hotel that we would be late in checking in. The reception staff was waiting for us when we arrived slightly later than originally mentioned. The check-in process was completed quickly and we were in our rooms soon after.

The Sudbury is a beautiful place to stay and would recommend it however the village of Faraday has sadly been affected by Covid. A lot of the shops and restaurants were closed. If we come back in a couple of years hopefully the village would be in better shape.

Very nice hotel on edge of the village and lovely staff and food

Convenient situation midway between London and Nottingham for a family get together. Dining menu was rather restricted though food was well prepared. Scuff marks on doors in corridors left a rather run down impression in contrast to the otherwise comfortable rooms.

Nice couple of days stay. Good for access to the town.

Handy for walking into the centre of Faringdon. It's an ok place, no real frills but value for money. Breakfast was decent.

The hotel was fine the restaurant needs a makeover in terms of menu etc - limited choices - very basic food little pricy for quality - reminiscent of the 80’s - the waiting staff were lovely. breakfast was okay. coffee and tea were awful.
