Botleigh Grange Hotel

The grounds were lovely. The room was good tnough the decor looked tired and surfaces were dusty. The lack of ventilation (no air conditioning and some windows sealed) made the room uncomfortably hot especially at night. The lift was not working and the spa unavailable. It feels as tjough investment is needed in this old building.

The location is ideal for visiting our 3 sons in the area, the room was clean and comfortable. The pool and spa area was disappointing as the changing room is in need of some maintenance and the steam room and sauna were not operational, which was disappointing. Overall though we had a very pleasant stay.

Most things were ok. Pool and spa were good. Bar service was slow and had to wait to be served for a while. Then the staff had to walk to another bar to get drinks as the pump was broken and had been for some weeks apparently. Room was good parking great

Large room and friendly staff. This is the second time we’ve stayed and both times the pool and spas have been out of action. Very disappointed that we were not offered anything by way of compensation.

Safe and plenty of parking. Clean and quiet. Staff friendly and helpful.

Room was fine but the bed a bit hard. Staff were fantastic. Have stayed before and never had any problems. Lovely place to relax. Pool is small but there is a sauna and jacuzzi. The steam room was shut.

We were on the third floor and lift was out of order during our stay.

Evening Menu choice was very limited. Breakfast staff turned up late so no plates put out toaster wasn’t on etc. also the patio doors left wide open so the eating in the cold. Sauna, steam room and hot tub all out of order. Lifts were also out of order but could request a ground floor room if required. Also the carpets have a shocking pattern that hurt my eyes.

They say first impressions count and they so do. The receptionist Katie was welcoming, happy, professional and very helpful with all my questions. The dining room and bar staff all good. The cleaners never get mentioned so here goes, the standard of cleaning throughout the hotel is excellent they must work extremely hard. It is a must visit

Room was very clean and bed linen was great quality. Room was on the small size but adequate.

Perfect hotel for our one night stay. Receptionist kindly upgraded our room upon arrival having established both mine and my partners caregiver roles and our request for a peaceful nights rest. The room was fantastically clean and although the hotel was of an age, the upkeep of it was admirable. All staff we encountered were courteous, friendly and polite. Would definitely recommend and look forward to returning as soon as our duties permit

I last visited the BG some 20 years ago- i'm sorry to say- it's not changed and that's unfortunate. It's such a beautiful building and grounds- but needs serious TLC in the bedrooms- as this is where it fails miserably. Dirty toilet- it was though it hadnt been cleaned out and need bleach to clear the stains. It got worse as you lifted the seat- a grime i cannot explain- but it was rank. Worse still- the walls are paper thin- so you can hear conversations - however- our experience was this conversation was at 3am and had to moved. We didnt experience the spa or breakfast- but we'd seen enough and was glad to check out. I'm a seasoned traveller- work and pleasure- and i would go as far to say that this is in my top 5 of worst hotels i've been to. That said- it has so much potential to be an incredible hotel- such a shame.

Absolutely loved our two night stay. Hotel staff friendly, helpful and nothing too much trouble. Bedding, bathrooms and towels spotless, spa facilities fab. Will 100% come again.

Check-in room. #15 right above party room .music sound ended midnight made us cant sleep at all. We required change room even worse in room #58 with life roach on bed. End up move to room. #45. This is my worse experience in travelling life.

I did not like: 1. My repeated telephone calls and messages from 10.00 am were ignored until 6.30 pm 2. There was no hot food and it took one and a half hours to produce a cold salad. 3. The room was dirty. 4. There was no hot water in the morning. The staff admitted that they knew about this but took no steps to advise guests. 5. Several days later I am still awaiting a receipt for money I should never have been asked to pay. There was no value for the £181 paid. I will never recommend this hotel.

Lovely spa and amenities in general. Room was spacious and quiet with blackout curtains. I'd definitely recommend it. That said, there were some issues with cleanliness in the bathroom. I raised it with the staff on reception which was really positive and they helped. Key issue was a very dirty and old showerhead - a quick fix from maintenance.

Room was very nice , but quite warm , no air conditioning. Lifts didn't work so had to take cases up 4 flights of stairs.

Very dated, poor lighting in bathroom. Very noisy due to function going on below us.

I found that the room was too light during the night. Light from the corridor and from outside

Hotel was dated and very basic. The rooms were small and the walls were thin. Was expecting more for the price paid.

Put on 2nd floor room had no view Needed updating badly. Wasn’t very clean. Bed was comfortable and nice pillows but would only stay on ground floor in future where the rooms are much better. Stay was very disappointing this time and was glad only for one night

Beautiful hotel and enormous room.

We arrived at 15.10 as the check-in was from 15.00 onwards. We were told the room wasn't ready and wouldn't be ready for 30-60 mins. This was (apparently) due to the dact that the hotel was short-staffed but thry also said it was because of late checkout for the previous occupants. After complaining, we eventually got in to our room after 10 mins. The room was exceptionally hot as there was no air conditioning and the windows could only be opened by about 5cm. In the absence of air conditioning, we were provided with a small and pretty ineffective desk fan The room itself was well decorated and very clean. It had a small double bed but it was comfortable The decor of the bathroom was very dated. Breakfast the next day was ok. We had to wait on several occasions for hot food to be supplied, but when it was it was tasty.

Good and bad, overall we wouldn’t go back. Good: Pool & Spa, food, large room, clean and tidy Bad: Room hot & stuffy, no air con, staff unattentive, menu choices were limited Needs a good refurbishment and modernising.

From check in till departure staff were brilliant. Attentive ,curteous, knowledgeable. This is a hotel undergoing and undergone renovation. Not only in its physical sense but also in its service its guests. I hope to see the Spa reopen with pool. Not withstanding this a very pleasent stay and breakfast was great both in quantity and presentation.

The young staff tried hard, but they were understaffed and overworked. So many customers were sitting waiting over an hour for food, including us .

With the exception of the lady on reception who appeared to be the only capable member of staff the stay here was so bad it was almost funny. Dinner was a complete disaster as very young staff had no idea what was going on as apparently no gas. Different staff telling us different foods available and we were told no coke or Pepsi only appletise or lemonade although there was Pepsi in the bar. A party of 25 ish arrived so was then deafening. A waiter apologised for the 40 minute wait but said they were trying to get starters out to the large party. It was agreed we would be refunded for our meal/drink . I told the receptionist the following day as we were still charged for a glass of wine. She said she would remove it but it was still charged to my card after departure. I wasn’t surprised that having emailed since leaving I didn’t even get the courtesy of a response. The building is lovely but needs refurbishment. There was a bucket in the reception catching water and furniture and carpets need replacing. Constant queue at reception with varying complaints and no sign of any management. Waited 20 mins trying to get served at a bar with 1 member of staff who was apparently attempting to do orders for a wedding so gave up. Such a shame as it wasn’t particularly cheap but poorly managed and sadly neglected.

Check in was smooth and professional. We appreciate the help from the front desk staff and the restaurant staff.

The hotel is run by children. Not their fault. No supervision. Restaurant and bar, staff didn't know what they was doing, again not their fault. No training. Terrible. Next table to us gave up in the end and ordered uber pizza. Good side they did give us a reduction.

The hotel staff exhibited exceptional friendliness and professionalism. The young female receptionist provided excellent service and, following a pleasant conversation, kindly assisted me with my luggage to my room. Additionally, the young waitress in the dining room was highly personable and wore a welcoming smile. I found no shortcomings with this hotel and will certainly patronize it again in the future.

When we arrived we paid for an upgrade that should have cost £10.00. The next day £15.00 was taken from my bank. When we spoke to the manager, she said it would be returned, this has yet to happen. The room was stifling hot, even in November with the windows open. We asked for and were provided with a noisy fan, which helped a little. The bed was probably one of the most uncomfortable we’ve attempted to sleep in, the assistant manager agreed that they were awful. We were looking forward to a well earned break, without the children, and chose this hotel for its Spa and Pool facilities. On evening one, we needed to avoid the pool due to classes taking place. On morning two, we were asked to vacate the pool for yet more swim classes! All of the above points were discussed with the manager at the time of checking-out. She explained that she has no authority to return any monies etc, even the overcharge payment. Apparently, the boss won’t give that level of autonomy, even to the manager, which we found rather odd, clearly a lack of trust between owner and staff. We would use this hotel as our regular place if we had been treated better. Very disappointing stay, very disappointed with the staff, and very disappointed with the lack of use of the Spa facilities.

Has been refurbished to a great standard. Parts need finishing but the Spa , dining room , bar and bedrooms are impressive. More impressive however are the staff who were amazing for our entire stay , especially the lady in charge of breakfast who made my family feel valued and welcome. Thanks

Brilliant Hotel and great Staff

The staff on reception were so lovely, my baby was sick in the night, and the young lady on night shift at reception was so helpful and accommodating. A very kind lady at breakfast helped the children with some snacks for their trip to Peppa Pig World and she was so helpful and pleasant. Would definitely return.

Great location for the port to go on holiday.

Ideal stop over for long road trip. Comfy single bed. Clean bathroom and bedding. Just what I needed.

We stopped at Botleigh Grange as we were going to a game at the Utilita Bowl the next day. The building looked very impressive on arrival, and the staff were very friendly. The room was nice but everything seemed a little tired, like things were due an update/upgrade. However, we had no complaints and would consider it again if we were in the area.

Middle of nowhere, if you don’t drive you are stuck, like we were. Hotel is lovely and staff are friendly. Food though is a big disappointment. We had evening meal and it took 1hr 45 mins to arrive, then it wasn’t edible. We paid £30 for breakfast this morning and it was cold and part from the croissants there wasn’t much else to eat, I won’t be staying again unfortunately

Extendive grounds, swimming pool, plenty of parking

Beautiful vintage hotel about 6 miles from the cruise port and what a thrill to be away from the hustle and bustle. Cozy little bar and delicious food topped it off. Super friendly staff. Highly recommended.

Lovely room, very comfy bed. Enjoyed our swim. Delicious food.

The room was spotless, big comfortable bed. The meal service was slow and needing to ask serveral tones to pay. Food was ok pork meal only 3 very thin carrot and 3 runner beans. Breakfast was missing lots of choice ie i fkavour jam, tea machine broke (later fixed) sparce butter no margarine. Cold beans, limited pastries only 1 choice. Breakfast really not up to scratch.

Lovely stay at this beautiful hotel. Staff were polite and helpful. Room was larger than expected and the bed so very comfortable. There was a wide selection of foods available at Breakfast for even fussiest of eaters. Did not use Spa/pool etc but have decided will go back later in the year and enjoy it all !!

Great overnight stay at a lovely spa hotel. It is an old building but full of character, great customer service (friendly staff and happy to assist however they could). Dinner was great, menu isn’t the biggest but some good choices and excellent quality!

Staff where very friendly and pleasant, especially reception and dining room staff, breakfast staff particularly welcoming. Very disappointed with evening meal service, waited a while for food to arrive, soup was luke warm. The food we ordered as one of the meals was not correct, can’t remember what it was but it definitely was not sea bass which came with its head on , very off putting for someone who detests fish. No initial apology off our waiter however another waiter did express his sincere apology for the mistake. The wrong dish then provoked a further delay. All in all we were sat in the dining room for over 2 1/2 hours from start to finish. There were only approximately 10 other customers in there so really unsure what the delay was . Hotel approach is lovely and we would stay here again however there are some areas which require some TLC. Used the pool facilities which was lovely although the changing areas are definitely in need of some TLC

A very pleasant hotel, nice garden, nice pool, nice lounge, excellent staff. But the bed was far too firm for me. And dinner was pricey and not that great.
