The Feathers Hotel

So much about this hotel is wonderful, the location, the rooms, the dining room and the service at breakfast were all wonderful. However an overall lack of service let it down. The bar is too small and has too small a selection of drinks, no Irish Whiskey yet has 8 different types of Ludlow Gin. The front door seemed to be locked most of the time we were there preventing casual walk ups for drinks by locals. In spite of a set price two course menu our food bill was incorrect on both nights due to extra drinks being added to the bill. The car park is inadequate and there were certain vehicles which did not move for the duration of our stay. There was no housekeeping following the first night we stayed.

Shame the lift broke down and wasn't fixed during our stay, drinks very expensive in the bar

Ancient hotel on 3 floors. Charming, but our stay as handicapped guests was destroyed by unannounced fact the lift didn't work. Had to hand carry 8 bags up a steep, narrow, winding staircase....totally irresponsible of owners. At a minimum owners should warn elderly about conditions.

Me and my wife stayed here as a treat while in town for a gig at Ludlow castle and we absolutely loved it. It's probably the most expensive hotel I've booked but well worth it. Their is so much character in the historic building, our room was huge and so was the bed. It was very comfortable and overall really clean. We slept really well too. The room was pitch black and we couldn't hear anything from outside. It was a very warm evening so we were also very grateful for the aircon in the room. We ate lunch here from the concert menu that was really nice and affordably priced and also had breakfast the following morning, where there was a choice of continental and hot menu options. This was lovely too. There was a small bar where you could buy Starbucks coffees/frappes etc as well as alcohol. There is a decent sized car park too onsite which is £7.50 per night. It's quite tight entering it but we saw 4x4s getting in ok. The only thing I could comment in any sort of negative way was one of the corridors we passed through from our room to the stairs smelled very dusty and you could see the ledges caked in dust. We to be fair was unusual given how spotless the rest of the hotel was. We absolutely loved our stay and if the concerts are on again next year, we'll definitely be treating ourselves again.

Lovely building to stay in, very quirky. Friendly staff, good food. Lovely area, local market, castle, river walks, nice to wander around and enjoy various sights. Only let down is the parking as you can’t guarantee a place or book in advance.

Lovely hotel , very welcoming and staff were very helpful . Difficulty parking and manoeuvring around the carpark was a challenge .

Clean, quiet and close to the town centre. We had to queue to check in, one receptionist on duty and three couples waiting. The bedroom was clean and well presented, the bed comfortable but the pillows hard but that’s a personal preference. No streaming on the TV, ie, no Netflix or other media channels. Bathroom was fine, lose toilet seat and the floor tiles cracked. I think this is a result of trying to tile over an old wooden floor. Car parking was available but the entrance is extremely narrow, it is an original coach entrance so not surprising. Breakfast very expensive, we could eat in town at half the price.

Great for the centre of Ludlow and for the Food Festival which we attended. An amazing building on the outside. Not sure where the £2.5m on the refurb went. Stayed in the Deluxe Twin Room with Balcony. Not sure what the Deluxe referred to. Reasonably spacious but nothing out of the ordinary. Several old cobwebs behind the voile and one hanging down from the ceiling just outside the bathroom. Dust on the bathroom door architrave. Just generally tired looking. The staff were always smiling and polite which was great when it was mostly chaotic on Saturday evening between 6 and 8pm. Basically they weren't prepared for the number of people. Those staying overnight, those from the food festival plus locals enjoying the Saturday afternoon 'funk it up' gig. The poor staff didn't know what they should be doing and who to serve. Then the bar was out of stock because of the funk it up. And no I wouldn't recommend it or return. Management - get a grip.

Lovely hotel with plenty of character. The whole building is very wonky and uneven, which we didn't mind at all. Our twin room was small but clean and comfortable. The mini fridge was a nice little bonus. Hotel breakfast was OK but very basic and nothing special. Not worth the price. The car park is very small and difficult to manoeuvre around but it does the job, if you can get a space. Which you do have to pay for. The staff were very friendly. We would stay there again.

The hotel car park is on a first come basis. We are a motorcycle club, and use the feathers for our annual rally. We were concerned that on our return to the hotel our parking spaces would be lost. Accepting that motorcycles are more susceptible to damage when on a public park, the management kindly reserved an area for which we were very grateful.

Stunning building and comfortable room. Loved the quirkyness of this historic gem. Bathroom needs a deep clean. Mould in the shower and on the shower door. Breakfast could be better in terms of healthy options. Was missing a fresh fruit salad rather than just fresh fruit. Ludlow itself was beautiful.

There was dust on wardrobe and woodwork around the room and the lead of the table lamp, there were also bits on the carpet - attention to detail was lacking.

We stayed 4 nights arriving on Sunday. We had booked Sunday lunch and too be honest my beef lunch was not good especially the price you pay for it, but everything else about the stay was fantastic. The staff are brilliant and our room was perfect and spotless, we will definitely be staying again.

Lovely large room ( upgraded from queen to king) Very clean. Iconic building.

Great location, but disappointingly characterless room. We booked the feathers because it looked amazing in the photos. But the room we were allocated (141) was out the back, in a modern extension. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The room was spacious & had everything we needed. A few things just let it down - the water glasses in the room weren’t clean (lipstick marks and fingerprints). The bathroom floor tiles had grubby grout that just needed a good scrub and there was the start of blank mould in the silicon at the bottom of the shower. All very easy to remedy. There were nice touches, like robes & slippers, a nice selection of teas in the room and the bed was super comfy.

I was extremely disappointed with the cleaning level.

A lovely 2 night stay with our dogs. Bedrooms spotless and well equipped. Fantastic breakfast best Eggs Benedict I have had for a long time. Friendly staff.

If we were to visit Ludlow again we would not stay at this hotel. Bathroom had mould on the ceiling, no shower curtain, floor dirty etc etc Paid £12.00 for breakfast and having waited a lengthy period for it to be served it was nothing short of shocking. Raised this when checking out and no real interest shown. Also raised an issue about a rude member of staff which was noted however having read other reviews it seems this has been a problem for others. Sent feedback directly to the Hotel and received no response.

Its a lovely old property and in an excellent location in the centre of Ludlow. Our room was at the front of the hotel and the street was very noisy from early in the morning. The room was hot but because of the street noise we didn't want to open the window. The duvet was a winter weight one which was far too hot for mid summer. There was a big step down into the bathroom which could be very difficult for some people. The staff were generally very helpful. Parking at £7.50 per 24 hours for paying guests was unreasonable. Drinks prices were higher than anywhere else nearby. Overall not good value for money.

Beautiful hotel, comfy beds, large rooms, bath and shower was amazing! Mini fridge was well stocked with crisps,chocolate bars and a variety of drinks/water Nice variety of hot drinks and biscuits too! Would stay again

Absolutely tiny room. No sound proofing from Hall could hear every word of conversation. Ironing board and fan shoved in the corner. Clothes rail hanging over bed. Mould on shower sealant. Asked to move immediately but hotel fully booked. V nice reception manager but couldn’t help in any way. Do not recommend. Terrible value for money.

Historic hotel with great character. However bedroom faced the main street and was very noisy after midnight with groups of young people shouting abusive comments to each other and others. Appreciate the hotel itself can't prevent this but maybe get together with neighbouring properties to tackle the issue?

The suite was very spacious and comfy on the first floor - however if you have guests above you that get up in the night the floorboards are very creaky and woke us up each time!!!!

Fabulous hotel. Very welcoming. Beautiful decor. Junior suite we had was absolutely huge! Bathroom was sublime. Huge comfy bed. Very quiet room. Delicious breakfast. No space in the car park, but EV charging in cheaper car park 2 mins' away near the library.

Our room was clean but cramped. It was unbearably hot. There was nowhere to put the oversized fan. Only one bedside table and no light on one side. Overall, far too expensive. Travel lodge would be more comfortable.

The hotel is in a great location in the centre of Ludlow. There is on site parking and the castle is a few minutes walk away. Check in was simple and we navigated through the meandering corridors to reach our rooms. It’s a 400 year old building so there are stairs, steps and turns as well as some fabulous wood panelling and glass. My room, 104, was a good size with an excellent modern bathroom. The bed was large and comfortable, there was a good sized desk plus additional seating and the sockets all had USB ports too. The room was quiet, overlooking the car park and despite the hotel being busy there was no noise intrusion from other guests. Breakfast was excellent, buffet with various cooked to order options. Not excessive but good sized portions and decent service. Overall a lovely stay in a fabulous location.

The room was dirty, noisy the staff especially the duty manager was rude. The breakfast was undercooked

The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. I was 8 1/2 months pregnant and they were accommodating with not only the room requirements but also the dinner options

Absolutely fantastic. My daughter and I both have food allergies/intolerances. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, who were friendly, welcoming and sensitive to our needs. Our special thanks to Ben who made our trip a truly memorable one.

Terrible check in. Arrived at 2.05pm (aware check in not until 4) told earlier if a room became available. Decided to eat lunch (big mistake) 5 other couples arrived after us, did not buy anything, given rooms quickly. 3.20 went to reception. Room still not ready . Checked in at 3.40. Moral - did not start spending

The staff made a mess of our room numbers and keys when we arrived. We arrived tired after a challenging day so we needed to be taken care of. The staff apologized and compensated us with free breakfast the next day which helped. The rooms were very nice and the breakfast was very good.

An excellent check in experience by Louise . We had our room before lunch although check in was from 1600. Small car park but we found a space . Staff were awesome . Breakfast was plentiful and very enjoyable . A perfect stay and will definately return .

Room 123 adjacent pub (very noisy), nasty smell in the room, asked to be moved to another room (106) this also had a nasty smell and very tired looking. At night after going bed our door was opened by another guest, who had been given a key to our room and to top it all, in the morning after leaving our room to go for a walk the key wouldn’t let is back in. Only stayed one night, very angry and upset, told receptionist about our ordeal, he just said he was sorry, will never stay at this hotel again!! And will advise others not to 😤

Uninspired, overpriced, understaffed. Half eaten takeaway in room fridge on arrival. Room not serviced on second day due to staff shortages. Poor quality not properly cooked breakfast. Overall a very disappointing two nights.

It was in town and only minutes away from activities

Considering this is a high end hotel. Bar area was messing, tables not wiped and papers scattered. Queues at bar, staff were stressed and couldn’t cope with number of guests. Room was small and some of the lights were not working. The room was stuffy and no air, window opened a tiny amount and a small fan was left in the room but not great. Breakfast was very poor, waited 40 minutes for our full English breakfast. When arrived, food was Luke warm and not a great standard

An old building in the centre of Ludlow with the town easily accessible on foot and, for car drivers, a car park available on a first come, first served basis although getting in and getting out requires skilful driving through the narrow opening that was far more comfortable for horses and carriage! The bedroom was spacious and comfortable and the dining room simply charming. The food was excellent crafted by a skilled chef and team and ably served by friendly and efficient staff. The memory of the stay will remain as a positive prompt to revisit in the near future.

The food looked good but I had a piece of plastic in my fish it was replaced and I was not charged for it however it upset my stay and I dif not enjoy the meal

Lovely unique hotel in great location. Lovely and very spacious junior suite. Breakfast was a disappointment but hotel was receptive to the feedback on this, would stay again.

Convenience, helpful staff, food very good

Nice looking property however the property is extended and stayed in a newer section instead of what I thought was the original building. Booked a room and paid extra for a balcony room. Balcony was dirty with roof moss all over it so didn’t use. It also was looking at the car park not the front of the hotel. Breakfast wasn’t a huge choice of Continental had a lot more choices elsewhere. Cooked breakfast was not help your self but made to order. I hade a vegetarian one which came with 1 sausage ,1 hash brown ,tiny pot of beans ,1 tomato 1 mushroom ,£15.95 per person which is very expensive would advise eating elsewhere. It was about 45 minutes late also

Great place for an overnight stay - the food options in the evening were excellent (particularly the tapas!)
