Large comfortable rooms. Needs a little attention as becoming tired. Food in the restaurant was good and spa facilities were also good. Although steam room was out of service. Quiet location in a pretty part near to Usk and Newport. Second time staying here, and would stay again

I had an economy room which was fine, the bed was ok, room had a good shower, but by preference would have liked option of a bath. Spa facilities were good, the hot tub was very theraputic, but a shame you had to get out and walk a few meters to restart the jets. ( I was suffering from sciatica so this made it difficult! ) the grounds and surrounds were superb. Only thing that really let this place down was the breakfast. The sausages were not great quality and were barely cooked, the eggs were over done and the jugged coffee was instant made up too strong, despite having a coffee machine in the bar which would have made much better morning coffee. Probably nice place for a day spa if you are in the area!

We were told on arrival that the spar pool was not working. Found out from users of the gym that it had been broken for weeks. We would not have booked if we knew this. Completely spoiled the stay. Staff were good but overall average at best. Will not revisit.

Good points: nice staff, good sized pool. Bed made each day. Nice courtyard area outside. Good sized room. Not so good: stained mattress in ‘ superior room and furniture that really needs replacing. Tea and coffee at breakfast was lukewarm at best. The showers in the pool area had to be held on as the water would only run for a few seconds. I understand about economy with water but it made it very difficult to shower properly. There was absolutely no information about the local area or nearby attractions in the room.

Overall, we had a good time. The breakfast was basic, but the pool and spa facilities were enjoyable. However, they have a strict policy for children under 16 at the pool, allowing them only 4 hours of use compared to 12 hours for adults. I find this extremely unfair to families with children. The policy should be more balanced to accommodate both families with and without children. The hotel is located in a beautiful area, though a bit of renovation would help attract more visitors. Despite the holiday season, it was surprisingly quiet, possibly due to some negative reviews. The staff, apart from those at the reception, seemed unhappy and overly strict regarding hotel rules, in particular the pool.

Lovely hotel from the outside. It’s an old country hotel so decor is very dated. Staff were nice and friendly. The spa was open but no staff there and there was a sign saying the jacuzzi was closed so I didn’t bother staying. Plenty of gym equipment but only wanted to use the pool. Breakfast was good . Was very warm and only 1 window would open but slept ok. I wouldn’t stay again as too far out of Cardiff for me

We arrived and looked stunning from the outside reception was lovely Then the hallway to the room was ripped and dirty The room carpet was stained and ripped and just looked dirty The bathroom was not the cleanest mould all around the bathroom For what they charge it was very overpriced and the drinks were extremely expensive The food in the bar was very basic and again over priced It said about making sure the shower curtain was in the bath before showering We never had a shower it had been taken off the wall Breakfast was ok but everything was just warm Was supposed to have been a treat away Could not wait to get home to a clean house Would we stay again NO

We were in room 1 wallpaper was peeling off walls toilet didn’t flush properly bath was rusty around plug hole and there was mold on the ceiling breakfast was ok and so was spar

Rooms were basic bathroom in need of improvement silicone sealant very poor black mould which there is no need of this can be controlled by cleaners using vitality spray cleaner,flooring badly fitted. Leisure facilities were very good staff very friendly pleasant location.

Faultless; an excellent hotel, professionally run, very welcoming, motivated and efficient staff, scrupulously clean bedrooms in which everything worked, set in an idyllic location making for a peaceful stay, with the added benefit of gym and spa facilities. The room is not finished and the painting has patches. Toilet seat was broken, bathtub was clogged, wifi did not work and bed was unconfortable. Business center was closed, and they provide no robes to the pool. The photos are not a true representation of what the place looks like. It is run down and expensive for what you get. There was a big spider web on the ceiling and the lampshade was also super dusty. Staff is nice and the breakfast is good but the rest is very disapointing. I do not recommend this place.

The outside of the Hotel has ben ruined by being painted Pink !!!! who had that idea !! The barman is more interested in chatting up the waitresses or eating in his cubby than serving customers which makes it even harder to accept the over inflated prices being charged for food and drink, the bathroom had several hairs dotted over the bath and sink area and a lovely pubic hair found under the toilet seat, the menu is extremely expensive so we went for food locally at the White Hart down the road where the food was exceptional and very fairly priced. The room we were given was so tired if i were running the Hotel i would close the room and re decorate it, over all the whole Hotel looks like it needs a complete re vamp, the staff don't seem interested at all which is a shame as its in a lovely location but obviously being run by the wrong people.

Rooms are run down. Pillows are like sandbags. Filthy bath mat, creaking floors and bed, no sound proofing. Carpets marked and dirty, no toilet roll holder, shower head faulty spraying everywhere, no soap in dispenser above sink. Lack of security irooms at rear no locked door to entrance. Breakfast edible, no quality coffee, dont expect a latte.

Beautiful and scenic hotel and very quiet, with nice and friendly staff. We had dinner , but to be honest could have cooked most of it at home in an air fryer. Room was ok, large tv and comfortable bed. However we was in the building behind the main hotel, and the floorboards above us you can hear every step from other guests. It was ridiculous. If you dropped a pin you could probably hear it. Felt like there was just a thin floorboard between the ceiling and their floor. It woke us up at 6am. With regret as well, the jacuzzi was not working and the steam room. On top of that the changing rooms are ok, but the showers in there are terrible. You have to constantly hold down the button as the showers are on like a 2 second timer. Mould all over the ceiling as well above these showers. All though the negatives the price was very good in terms of value.

Location was lovely and staff were very good. Spa /pool/gym/ was also very nice. However the food was awful, and very expensive as were drinks. We come from London and the prices were higher here!! Breakfast was the worst, nothing fresh, nothing chilled, no fruits/cheese/meat (as per menu choices). Bed was the most uncomfy you can imagine and the room was tired at best. Having said all this, there was a charm to the property and if you eat elsewhere and can cope with the bed, want to use spa/pool etc it was good value mid week

I stayed in a room that was very dated and very basic. Stayed in better ☆☆ in my travels. Wifi was more or less non existent. Ventured over to the pool and spa. Steam room I have had more steam in my bath. Cold air keeps coming in.

The hotel is set in attractive grounds in a peaceful country location. We have stayed here several times. The food in the breakfast buffet is good quality and we have enjoyed several lovely, relaxing evening meals in the restaurant. Our room was spacious and warm with plenty of storage space. The local staff were friendly and welcoming.

Really liked the hotel. Nice rooms and friendly staff. I stopped in room 11 and the WIFI was really poor. Kept dropping out even though I was on it. As I was travelling wife work I use the evening to do my admin since I’m on my own. This was not possible though as it kept losing signal. Reception told me the hotel was full hence why it kept dropping out. But that should not be my issue it should be good enough for a full hotel.

We stayed in one of the annex buildings. It was ok just a bit dated and not that clean (dusty and stains on the carpets.) our room was on the ground floor and the noise from the room above was terrible, lots of creaking floorboards, shower sounded like it was in our room etc. didnt help that we had a couple shouting and screaming at each other for most of the night!! Staff were very friendly on check in.

Friendly welcome. Room had a warped window that would not close so not secure. Reported issue and was offered an alternative which was an excellent suite. The heating proved to be problematic with the boiler tripping out at inconvenient times but was quickly reset when reported. On leaving, I requested a reduction on the bill to compensate for the heating issues and was promptly offered £100 which I regarded as fair an reasonable. On leaving, I requested a reduction on the bill to compensate for the heating issues and was promptly offered £100 which I regarded as fair an reasonable. Staff on reception were excellent. Bar staff were mixed. On our first night they had run out of nearly all meat dishes which we weren’t told about until we had tried to order . The room decor was rather tired. For service in the bar we frequently had to knock on the back door to get staff out to the bar. Sadly we don’t think we will be returning despite us visiting that area frequently.

On checking in, I was not given any information about the hotel and facilities. What time is breakfast?, when is the pool open? Etc. I was asked if I'd stayed at the hotel before and then told you know where your room is then, not even told my room number. This is probably the best hotel we have stayed at for many years. From the moment we arrived at reception the staff were always on hand if you needed anything. Every member was courteous, friendly and professional, always checking if we needed anything to make our stay more pleasant. Our room was a Superior double and had a beautiful view and was cleaned everyday. There was a wide choice of foods on the menu, which was excellent and they have an amazing chef. We were there to attend a residential weekend where we sang at a concert on the Sunday afternoon, and even here the staff were on hand to ensure everything was provided in time. We managed to visit the hotel’s spa which is a must for anyone who chooses to stay at this hotel. Thank you to all staff.

We booked last minute as an alternate to where we normally stay when visiting Newport. Very happy with the condition of the room, the grounds, and the services by the staff and management. Beautiful older legacy property set in a beautiful and quiet area with decent amenities for kids and adults.

Lovely hotel from the outside. It’s an old country hotel so decor is very dated. Staff were nice and friendly. The spa was open but no staff there and there was a sign saying the jacuzzi was closed so I didn’t bother staying. Plenty of gym equipment but only wanted to use the pool. Breakfast was good . Was very warm and only 1 window would open but slept ok. I wouldn’t stay again as too far out of Cardiff for me

Great picturesque location with fabulous staff and good food on offer for Breakfast in the Buffet - All worked ok but the place is looking tired with threadbare carpets in places, window catches missing and the sink in the bathroom needed repairs as it wasn't secure. Beautiful and scenic hotel and very quiet, with nice and friendly staff. We had dinner , but to be honest could have cooked most of it at home in an air fryer. Room was ok, large tv and comfortable bed. However we was in the building behind the main hotel, and the floorboards above us you can hear every step from other guests. It was ridiculous. If you dropped a pin you could probably hear it. Felt like there was just a thin floorboard between the ceiling and their floor. It woke us up at 6am. With regret as well, the jacuzzi was not working and the steam room. On top of that the changing rooms are ok, but the showers in there are terrible. You have to constantly hold down the button as the showers are on like a 2 second timer. Mould all over the ceiling as well above these showers. All though the negatives the price was very good in terms of value.

Had a lovely stay. Really nice relaxing atmosphere and location. Limited menu, ordered steak. Wife ordered well done arrived rare. Retuned steak,came back full of fat. Mine was almost blue, ordered medium rare.They took off service charge for our dissatisfaction then tried to get it back at checkout. Lack of communication and refresher for chef needed. The bed in the supreme room was two mattresses together. The interior is tired and needs a lot of tlc. Staff were great, very attentive and professional. Wife really enjoyed her spa experience. For all this we will be returning and I would recommend.

Location was lovely and staff were very good. Spa /pool/gym/ was also very nice. However the food was awful, and very expensive as were drinks. We come from London and the prices were higher here!! Breakfast was the worst, nothing fresh, nothing chilled, no fruits/cheese/meat (as per menu choices). Bed was the most uncomfy you can imagine and the room was tired at best. Having said all this, there was a charm to the property and if you eat elsewhere and can cope with the bed, want to use spa/pool etc it was good value mid week

We loved the pool and spa area and the staff were really friendly and helpful. The decor is somewhat tired but we did have a nice bright room with opening windows and adjustable radiators, which is always a plus. The breakfast was dull, basic bread, all the hot dishes precooked and sitting on top of heaters, lukewarm. The coffee was ok. It would have been lovely to have some local produce, real bread rolls etc.

Would be an idea to tell people of the cost of taxis before attending as there is no taxi service about and they have to come from Newport. So for a 5 minute drive into the town costs £22!
